Torquays Quest For Success

Well the new season is here and after so many additional player last year, only 5 new signings were brought in as Torquay finished last season off as strong as ever. Hopeful Rob White was keen to see his team get back onto the playing field and recover the end of season form last season that kept them in the 2nd Div. and propelled them to a decent league finish.

1st Match

Torquay Vs Burnley

Great first match for the gulls, as they dominated the match from the start to the end. Good old David graham got his season underway with a 7th minute goal, pressure after pressure, took its toll but it took another 60mins when torquay grabbed an importeant 2nd to ease the home teams nerves. Then 8 mintues late John Jones used his great determination to get the 3rd and final goal of the match. There could of been so many goals but a win is a win and is a great start for the gulls. One downpoint was James Hodges getin injured and out for 3 weeks such a great loss at such and early stage of the season, hopefully not too costly.

MOM = John Jones, 1 Goal and 2 assists made the win for the gulls.

Final score = Torquay 3 - 0 Burnley

League Cup 1st Round

Lincoln Vs Torquay

Once again another fine display by the gulls but lincoln pulled their weight by keeping up with the goals as Torquay went into the 2nd half with a 2-1 lead with goals from Neil Adams and Richard Jones. Another goal from from Richard Jones made the scoreline 3-1 with only 15mins left, this looked like the killer goal but lincoln got another goal on 86mins to make it very interesting within the last few minutes but the one person you could rely on to get a goal would be super-sub Serge Makofo.

MOM = Neil Adams, Worked his arse off down the right wing and with 2 assists and goal in the game who could question his MOM award.

Final Score - Lincoln 2 - 4 Torquay

Torquay vs Reading

A strong Torquay team over came a tough recding force. Not much to say except CB Enio getting hjis first for the club and makofo gettin another brace to make the final score 3-0.

MOM - Christian, Brazilian Magic proved a match winner.

Final Score - Torquay 3 - 0 Reading

Sheff Utd Vs Torquay

A great match with loads of chances at either end, Sheff Utd had more of the possesion which amounted to them having the best of the chances, but this didnt results in gettin the win. It was quite the other way round as Torquay made the most out of their chances to win the game 4-3.

MOM - Richard Jones, A commanding player who controlled what he could in midfield for the gulls.

Final Score - Sheff Utd 3 - 4 Torquay

Torquay Vs Bradford City

A very performance by the lads saw us concede 2 goals in 2 mins with Bradford's first two shots on goal. This knocked us back the whole game till Bradford got a third late on, which really killed the Gulls. Makofo scored a late penalty to make it 3-1. Easily the worst performance for the lads, there was no vision, no hunger for the ball or fight for the ball.

MOM - No one to pick as all performed poor.

Final Score - Torquay 1 - 3 Bradford City

Darlington Vs Torquay

Great attacking play proved decisive for the gulls as torquay took a first half 2 nil lead with a great counter attacking goal by james graham with CHristian doing all the hard work down the right wing to cross for Graham who had an easy top corner finish. When Roget got sent off for darlington it was time for torwuay to kil the game off, this was sealed when Johnathan Heathcote scored his 2nd goal for the club and the 3rd in the game. David Graham rounded off a great counter attack with his first shot blocked, he had anothet bite of the cherry and stuck it into the top corner.

MOM - David Graham, Although gettin injured at the end, his assist and 2 goals help torquay get the win.

Finale Score - Darlington 0 - 4 Torquay

Torquay Vs Doncaster

Doncaster were already struggling within the league, and with Torquay's form the gulls expected to win the game. They showed there real class in this game by dominating the play, making Doncaster chase the ball and great passing had doncaster thinking what they could do to stop the gulls. Goals from Makofo and Christian done the job for torquay as the defence had the Doncaster Attack in their back pocket. Doncaster got a consolidation from a corner which was slack defending on our part but it all proved to be nothing as Makofo got a 93th minute 3rd goal.

MOM - Serge Makofo, Great fill in for the injured James Graham.

Final Score - Torquay 3 - 1 Doncaster

Torquay Vs Gillingham

ANother commanding game for Torquay as the vistors gillingham couldnt create one chance of a shot at Torquay. Goals from makofo once again and a single from christian, secured a 3-0 win to go 2nd in the league.

MOM - Serge Makofo, On fire at the moment with another brace to secure a win.

Final Score - Torquay 3 - 0 Gillingham

League Cup 2nd Round

Torquay Vs Preston

Torquay next took on a tough preston, who had a very strong team so this was gonna be a tough game for the gulls.Things got off to a great start when Christian scored after capitilising on some bad handling by Preston's keeper. Preston got one back 3 mins later once again from a corner. Things got tense as Torquay couldnt get that 2nd goal, they dominated the play but could get that 2nd goal. Then on come good old James Graham back from his slight injury, to get a 2nd goal, after a great through ball by mensing, makofo latched onto it and not being greedy squared to graham who had the easiest of tap ins to make it 2-1 with 8 mins on the clock left. To round off a great performance Makofo scores after missing the intial penalty.

MOM - Serge Makofo, Just a great player to watch and admire, Next Henry maybe :p

Hammers at home in the elite 07-08

Sat, 1.9.2007 - 12:30 – (A) Man City - Premier Division

The first clash with Premiership newcomers Citeh at the City of Manchester Stadium and Manager Darren “Daz†Gray for premiership veteran Manager, West Hams’ Paul Rouch. Robinho soon showed the Citeh boys what life in the prem was all about with a 5th minute opener, Oliseh added another on 13, Simonetta continued his remarkable run of form with the 3rd on 19, an early blitz that the boys in blue never really recovered from despite a brief rally when Basturk scored a superb individual goal on the half hour, which was quickly pegged bag with another goal from Simonetta before half time. The second 45 saw the Hammers dominate and on loan signing Varela open his account on his debut to finish the game with a resounding 5-1 victory in the newcomers own back yard. Paul Rouch offered the up and coming manager some words of encouragement at the end icon_biggrin.gif

West Ham played host to the success story of recent years winning successicve promotions from the conference and this season came in to the Premiership for the first Time. Again, Paul Rouch welcomed the newly promoted, but respected manager to Upton Park. Oskarsson opened up the scoring after an early period of West Ham domination, and Arteta took his chance to ensure a two goal cushion at the break. The second half truned into a goal fest as the Hammers completely outplayed the newcomers, with Simonetta grabbing a hatrick, Etheringtom converting a penalty and Thu grabbing a rare goal. icon_cool.gif The only sad thing was the low turn out to see such a vintage performance.

Tue, 18.9.2007 - 19:45 (A) Monaco - Champions Cup Grp

A trip across the Channel for this group stage opener which started oh so badly when Monaco scored the opening goal on 37 then doubled their advantage in the second half, both from Adebayor. West Ham were relieved when Simonetta again proved his value in front of goal, pulling one back on 53. Arteta equalised on 83 and a draw looked on the cards but West Ham had other ideas and Simonetta doubled his contribution to give West Ham the lead and Arteta secured his brace on 89 to seal a fantastic comeback on foreign soil. icon_biggrin.gif

Sat, 22.9.2007 - 15:00 (A) Southampton - Premier Division

West Ham were putting an impressive run together as the travelled down to Hampshire to face Southampton. Simonetta was on fire as he struck 4 goals in this game, overshadowing Arteta’s solitary contribution and despite Huth’s dismaissal on 45. Southampton could not keep pace even against 10 men although the did manage goals from Lua Lua and Beattie to add a touch of respectability to the scoreline icon14.gif

Sat, 29.9.2007 - 12:30(H) Newcastle - Premier Division

A top of the table clash as first plays second. A tense encounter in front of the sky cameras, and Simonetta continued his superb run by scoring the opener, the only goal of a very tight first half. Kristainsen equalised for the toon from a corner shortly after the restart. Robinho reminded everyone of what a class act he is by first of all restoring the lead and then putting the game beyond all reasonable doubt on the break from a barrage of Newcastle attacks when he spotted the keeper off his line and lobbed the ball from the half way line to score what must be a goal of the season contender, let alone goal of the month! icon_biggrin.gificon_cool.gif

stevenage.JPG?Planet Stevenage : The Survival Battle Continues

Well we knew it was gonna be a difficult season but its just taking the biscuit once again, the great game of CM has decided that superb strikers will not score no matter if its a one on one or an open goal, they dont want us to score icon_frown.gif Of course with dominating a game, CM turns on us and laughs as it just gets to our goal and scores with just one shot! Gotta love this game.

Stevenage vs Hull

A game I didnt expect to win and it was a shock to both me and Andy when I took the lead through a Juliusson screamer. Despite his domination in the game we took a 2-0 lead through Juliusson once more. But somehow in the 2nd half my team decided to give up and every time they had to defend......the defence ran to the right despite the ball being on the left hand side? Odd by Hull deserved their goals despite match engine flaws.

Ft : 2 : 3

West Ham vs Stevenage

As we arrived at Upton Park the outlook didnt look good, especially as the players went through the tunnel with the banner of "welcome to the premiership Stevenage" on the way tunnel wall. Its part of the psychological side of Mr Rouch I reckon......of course that part of the game wasnt needed icon_frown.gif They have plenty of premiership experience and also have had the best attack in the league in the past two seasons, it was only 2-0 at Half time despite their domination and we managed to have a few chances of our own. But eventually Class showed and the tired Stevenage players collapsed with 15minutes to go, it was party time for the hammers, they went on a mad DIY craze and it seemed like they were still in a training match with the goals rocketing in. Most the goals came in the last 10minutes and it showed Stevenage were like ghosts as Gilder was in agony, they played on! Bloody Hammers, not only thrash us but cripple the squad at the same time. Lots of credit to their new Italian centre forward who's just scoring for fun against everyone in the league so far.

Ft : 7 : 0

Stevenage vs QPR

These are the type of teams we have to beat, it looked like a victory for us, we were winning through a goal by Poole after completely dominating the game. But no CM Match Engine had the last word once more, a 92nd minute corner produced QPR's first effort on goal, and to no suprise, a goal.

Ft : 1 : 1

Burton Albion vs Stevenage (League Cup)

Reserves in and still the same stupid story, strikers cant hit a barn door. They went down 1-0 but a last minute pen converted by Gibson made it extra time. A close game then went to pens where our spanish keeper managed to hold them out for Notman to convert the winning pen.

Ft : 1 : 1 Win On Pens

Everton vs Stevenage

Once again another team that we should be aiming to beat. It went very much our way once again and we took the lead through Huckerby the instrumental left sided mid. Despite continuous domination, the toffee's almost snatched a draw with their last minute effort. We managed to hold out and still wonder why we cant score more than 1 goal.

Ft : 0 : 1

Stevenage vs Arsenal

Wasnt looking forward to this one, The Gunners just went on a romp against Citeh! So it didnt look good and got even worse as we went down 2-0 within just 8minutes of play. A tactic change and Arsenal are completely outplayed on the park. The domination of Stevenage returned once more it was down to the Hero of the club Juliusson to get us back in it. Before the break he scored a wonderful free kick and followed it up in the second half with a 30 yard curler to level it. But then once again, my strikers just couldnt score, most amazing thing in the world.

Ft : 2 : 2

WBA vs Stevenage

They been leaking goals so far this season and we should have put 5 past them with ease.......but no, CM once again decided that my team, despite dominating cant score, so with 10minutes left in the game, it lets WBA in with their first shot and score..........luckily though we managed to get a draw with a last minute goal by Abreu who managed to walk it round the keeper......just!

Ft : 1 : 1

Stevenage vs Man City

Great game for both teams, plenty of action at either end but both teams, mainly mine, just lost the ability to convert any kind of chance on goal. Robinson had an outstanding game in goal for us and earned his man of the match. Huckerby and Magno both had several one on one chances that should easily seen the back of the net.

Ft : 0 : 0

Stevenage vs Yeovil (League Cup)

The reserves back in and I thought i'd let Magno play to try and score and hopefully put the trigger on the scoring boots to on. Nope, game decided once more that strikers cant score. So it was a corner that lead to the only goal of the game and it was converted by Howard who had a solid game. We progress to the 4th round of the cup.

Ft : 1 : 0

Overall we are now 8th in the table, sounds good but i gotta admit its pretty pathetic. We could and should be much further up the table with some of the dominate performances we've had once again but for some reason which I just cant work out, CM just doesnt want my strikers to score, any chance they get they just cant convert. Taking Leigertwood out of defence now too cos Josip has returned from injury and says he cant settle in the area.

So the plan for the rest of the season? Get to that 40pts marker real quick, another 30 points are needed to achieve this target. We could do it easy if my strikers started to score more.

Hull_2.JPG?

Tiger Times

After a historic season last season that saw Hull do a cup double, it was Hepburn's job to try and achieve more next season if that was possible. They finished as runner's up in the league so to go one better will be a huge ask. During pre season hepburn was off around the world scouting for talent to boost his sides chances of further silverware next season. He brought in a few new faces during the pre season. Here is a run down of the new faces:

Julius Aghahowa - £8.75 Million From PSV

David Marshall - £300k From Portsmouth

Carlos Arturo Marinelli - £120k from Middlesbrough

Isaac Okoronkwo - Free

Ibrahim Said -Free

Marco Borriello - Free

With money to burn Hepburn went all out for a new striker so he bought two instead and he has high hopes for both Borriello and Aghahowa. The Nigerian centre back Okoronkwo and Said were brought in to add some pace and even more solidity to a slow Hull defence. Marinelli was brought in to give Hepburn more options in the middle of the park as he can play in the middle or out on both wings so he will be a useful addition to the squad. So pre season was over and it was onto the action.

The Community Shield - Hull v Newcastle - (N) - 5-3

It was Hull's appearance in the season curtain raiser and boy what a season opener it was. Both teams going at each hammer and tongs, end to end stuff. Any side could have won it with the amount of chances created but Hull managed to win in the end 5-3. Two goals from debut boy Borriello got his season off to a flyer and made him an instant hero with the Hull faithful. Two goals from midfield genius Paulinho and a goal from Danny Allsopp gave Hull an impressive win over the League Champions.

The League Campaign Begins Again...

WBA v Hull - (A) - 5-1

What a perfect way to start the season for Hull as they thrashed a poor WBA who seemed to think they were still on their summer holidays. It was one traffic and total domination from Hull. The highlight was yet another Danny Allsopp hat trick plus further goals from Paulinho and Stuart Elliot gave Hull a very impressive start to the league campaign.

Hull v Man City - (H) - 5-2

Before the game the UEFA Cup and the FA Cup were paraded around the ground to get the fans into the mood for Hull's first home game of the new campaign. What a game it was as Hull welcomed Premiership new boys Man City to The Circle. The scoreline flattered Hull and they owe yet another victory the goalkeeping of Roy Carroll who was heroic in goal. At the other end Hull's strikers continued their early season goal fest by racking up another five goals. This time the highlight was new boy Borriello grabbing his first league goals for Hull as he banged in a double to send Hull on their way. Further goals from Richie Partridge, Stuart Elliot and Danny Allsopp added to their tally. Credit to Man City as they attacked and attacked but they just could not find any end product.

Stevenage v Hull - (A) - 3-2

After they're impressive win at Man City it was time to travel to the division one champions Stevenage who Steven Gold has worked wonders with. Off the pitch hepburn and Gold share a friendly rivalry but on the pitch it was fierce. Stevenage shockingly took the lead through Juliusson who then added a second much tot he annoyance of Hepburn as Hull had controlled the game but much like Man City in the last game could not find a goal. Well whatever Hepburn said to his team at half time it certainly worked. They came roaring back in the second half as another debutant grabbed all the headlines as scored a double to get Hull back into the game. Julius Aghahowa scored these goals and he to went down as a legend to the Hull fans. Another Hull legend Stuart Elliot grabbed the winner for Hull to cap a terrific fightback and give Hepburn three wins out of three.

Hull v Southampton - (H) -4-4

This was a game that left Hepburn utterly frustrated as his teams loss of concentration cost them two points. It was a great game as Southampton did not sit back but really attacked Hull and put them in all kinds of trouble at times. Hull showed what they are all about though in the attacking third of the pitch as Marco Borriello scored his first hat trick for Hull and also Freddy Guarin scored a goal but Southampton to their credit did not let their heads go down and kept going and got their just rewards with an injury time equaliser to give them a share of the points.

Newcastle v Hull - (A) - 1-2

If they're Community Shield match was anything to go by then the fans were expecting another cracker and much to their delight that is what they got. Another end to end adventurous match with both teams not really caring about the defensive side of football. Only this time both goalkeepers were on top form to deny another goalfest. Newcastle came out on top to record their first win over Hull in five attempts. Again very slack defending cost Hull at least a point as Jesper Gronkjaer scored the winner for Newcastle in injury time after Paulinho had given Hull the lead.

Hull v Blackburn - (H) - 4-2

After the loss to Newcastle Hepburn decided to change tactics as they were conceding too many goals with this new adventurous tactic. It was back to a more conservative formation that gave the defence some stability. it worked well for the most part of this game as Hull welcomed Blackburn to The Circle. Two quickfire goals in the space of two minutes from Partridge and Downing sent Hull on their way. Blackburn pulled one back but then another quickfire brace from Borriello put the game beyond Blackburn's reach. Classy performance from Hull who limited Blackburn to long range shooting opportunities throughout the game.

Chelsea v Hull - (A) - 6-4

I may run out of superlatives in this one as this was a match that had absolutely everything from goals to a sending off to some fantastic goalkeeping. It was the millionaires of Chelsea who started the bette of the two teams and new striker Jermaine Defoe put them ahead only for marinelli to reply for Hull quickly after that. It was the same Chelsea player who gave them the lead shortly after the Hull equaliser. So at half time it was 2-1 to Chelsea who seemed to be on their way to victory. Hull came out in the second half very differently and caught Chelsea by surprise and equalised through Aghahowa and then went ahead thanks to Partridge. Danny Allsopp further increased Hull's lead by adding number four. Then disaster for Hull as Ostemobor was ordered off for a professional foul. Chelsea then upped the pace of an already fast game and pulled a goal back through Figo only for Danny Allsopp to go straight up the pitch and score a fifth for Hull. Then five minutes later Chelsea scored another through Matthew Taylor to set up a frantic finish. It was not to be for Chelsea as a corner from Richie Partridge in the ninty minute was met by Okoronkwo to seal a sensational victory for Hull and keep up their impressive start to the season.

Hull v Fulham - (H) - 5-0

Hull were flying and scoring goals aplenty. They dished out a thrashing here to Fulham who were totally dominated by a rampant Hull side. Freddy Guarin started this latest thrashing in the twenty third minute with a superb strike. Borriello added to this lead and then right on half time Simone Padoin scored Hull's third to give them a 3-0 half time lead. Further goals in the second half from Aghahowa and Danny Allsopp added to an impressive tally.

Liverpool v Hull - (A) - 2-1

The fans who turned up at Anfield were expecting another thriller from Hull and were expecting another huge scoreline. For once Hull did not deliver as this was the other side of Hull. They grinded out a win in a pretty even contest as Liverpool made in extremely difficult for them. Liverpool went ahead through Le Tallec only for Freddy Guarin to equalise just before half time. Both sides had chances but it was former Liverpool player Richie Partridge who came back to haunt the club who had sold him for a measly £14k to Hull a few seasons ago.

European Supercup - Hull v Juventus - (N) - 0-1

Having won the UEFA Cup they got a dream date in millionaires paradise of Monaco against Champions League winners Juventus. They ran them close but in the end that extra class told as Juve ran out 1-0 winners. Hull made it hard for themselves as they had to play for most of the game with 10 men after Ostemobor stupidly got himself sent off. David Trezeguet scored the only goal of the game but they had a number of chances to score more but they did not take their chances. Hull had a few chances with Danny Allsopp missing their best chance from the penalty spot. it was not to be for Hull but they enjoyed what was a great occasion. It has only left them wanting more of the same.

Champions League Campaign

Hull's first time in the Champions League and when the froups were drawn Hepburn was left shaking his head as they had drawn Bayern Munich, Lazio and Besiktas. It was a really tough group and Hepburn knew they would have to be at their very best to go through. First game was....

FC Bayern v Hull - (A) - 1-2

What a game to start your very first Champions League away to FC Bayern proven as one of the best sides in Europe for many seasons. Hull gave as good as they got but in the end again that little bit of extra class and composure stay in Munich. Damien Delaney gave Hull some hope but it was not enough as four minutes from time Bayern won a penalty that was converted superbly by Philipp Lahm to give Munich the win.

Hull v Besiktas - (H) - 4-0

A fantastic performance from Hull as the won their first ever Champions League game at home at The Circle. The atmosphere was electric and Hull produced an electric performance. Stuart Downing put Hull on their way after only ten minutes with a classy goal. It was then the turn of Aghahowa to score after sixteen minutes to increase Hull's lead. Guarin added a third then Agahowa sealed Hull's first ever Champions League win. icon_cool.gif

Lazio v Hull - (A) - 0-1

A fairly even contest with few chances but the chances Hull created were met by Angelo Peruzzi a man on the top of his game. Borriello had a real off day for Hull and many were surprised he stayed on for the whole ninety minutes considering the striking talent he had on the bench. Lazio did enough to keep them out.

The League Cup

Out at the first attempt against a determined Southampton side fired after after their cup loss to Hull last year. Hepburn made a few changes to his team who incidently started the better of the two teams and went ahead through Stuart Elliot. Southampton came out second half fired up and took the the tie to extra time where a Matthew Oakley winner took Southampton through to the next round.

So early season Hull find themselves top of the Premiership doing quite well in Europe.

Robinho got the opener after only 7 minutes and West Ham camped out in the Fulham half for the rest of the game but the hammers were unable to build on their early goal, even when Towse was sent off midway through the first half. JUST WHAT IS GOING ON AT CITY

That is the question manager Darren Gray would have been asking himself latly. The season doesn't seem to be going the way he thought it would have liked, but things have started to lookup recently. Full listings of all the latest games are below:

Man City 1 v 5 Westham

In a game were Paul Roach's dominated from start to fininsh it was no wonder that City manager Darren Gray said to the cameras after the game that he felt his team had let the proud supporters of the club down badly for the second time in two weeks. He also said he would get the people out the door as quick as they came in if this run of poor form continues.

QPR 2 V 2 Man City

City overcame a 2-0 deficite to come back and earn a deserved draw. Mind you had it not been for some good defending by the city back four it could have been a lot worse. Goals From captain marvel, Basturk, and young Bulgarian starlet Todorov saw city come away with a point

Man City 4 v 2 Everton

City again down by two goals, but a Basturk showed his team how thing should be done and grabbed himself a deserved hattrick. Uruaguayan striker Fabian Estoyanoff grabbed the other goal.

Stevenage 0 v 0 Man City

In a game that was full of action, it had everything but a goal. Mind you city at times were lucky to walk away with a point after the countless chances Mango "The Legend" Silva missed. But it also had alot to do with the new defensive formation brought in by the city Manager.

Man City 3 v 0 Cheltenham

A fairly one sided affair with Man City pitching out a reserve team as they obviously thought it would be better for the regulars to take a rest. The young lads did well and did themselfs proud.

Man City 4 v 2 Southampton

Basturk scorered another brace and not to be out done came a brace from young Bulgarian Todorov. This partnership between the two has again seen City ride further up the league again.

Hammers at home in the elite 07-08

After a perfect September and a misfiring October, a run of good form is required to keep the Hammers in the hunt!

Sat 3.11.2007 – 3:00 – (H) Liverpool – Premier League

When you are looking to start getting some results together, the scousers aren’t exactly the opposition you have in mind! Things start badly as the car thieves go one up after only 7 minutes. This serves as a wake up call for the Hammers though and Kristjanssen responds within a couple of minutes to level it. Oskarsson and Simonetta grab a gaol apiece to put the hammers well ahead before the half time oranges are handed out. Oliseh extends the lead and Oskarsson rubs salt in to the scousers wounds on 90 to send reds back home with their tails behind their legs icon_cool.gif

Result –West Ham 5 Liverpool 1

Kristjanssen 9 Barton 7

Oskarsson 32, 90

Simonetta 39

Oliseh 50

Att – 30088

Wed 6.11.2007 – 7:45 – (H) Porto – Champions League

The return of Porto after the Hammers humiliated them on their home soil, Porto would be looking to show that it was a freak result, West Ham were seeking to demonstrate it was their superiority that provided the result! As it turned out, the Hammers bettered the 6-1 they had enjoyed in Porto and ran riot at Upton park! The fans went wild as the hammers put on a goal scoring display and registered their highest ever victory! Arteta grabbed 4, Simonetta 5, and Oskarsson 2 as the hammers went goal crazy! Derlei again grabbed Porto’s consolation goal! 11-1 icon14.gificon_biggrin.gif

Result –West Ham 11 Porto 1

Arteta 10, 30, 60, 81

Simonetta 18, 23, 33, 66, 77

Oskarsson 69, 83

Att – 29749

Sat 11.11.2007 – 3:00 – (A) Spurs – Premier League

West Ham’s rivals and also, in recent CM games, betters! icon_eek.gif are next up at ****e hart lane. Postiga performs a feat he has yet to familiarise himself with on a regular basis at the lane, scoring! Yes, he grabs the opener, Oliseh responds for the hammers then Simonetta puts the hammers in front (for the first half at least!) Postiga doubles his tally in the second 45, only for Arteta to grab the lead again for the Irons, but Zamora (Hmm, he should be a west ham player!!??) equalises for the yids and that is how it stays.

Result –Spurs 3 West Ham 3

Postiga 5, 53 Oliseh 16

Zamora 61 Simonetta 23

Arteta 56

Att – 36219

Sat 24.11.2007 – 3:00 – (H) Wolves – Premier League

After the bitter disappointment of dropping 2 points at Tottenham, West Ham face Wolves at the Boleyn. A quiet first half went by way to quickly as half time was reached with no goals to interrupt things icon_eek.gif The second half saw Bonfim start to justify his push for a regular first team berth, with 2 goals that sealed the 3 points icon_biggrin.gif

Result – West Ham 2 Wolves 0

Bonfim 53, 70

Att – 23759

Wed 28.11.2007 – 7:45 – (H) Monaco – Champions League

A win in this game will put West Ham through to the knockout phase with a game to spare, and despite some very dodgy refereeing, the hammers secured a win with ease, scoring 6 but only actually being awarded three of them! icon_mad.gif Oskarsson and Simonetta grabbing the goals as Monaco struggled to contain the Hammers icon_cool.gif

Result – West Ham 3 Monaco 0

Oskarsson 19, 26

Simonetta 49

Att – 21679

The month ended with 4 wins and a draw from 5 games so I have to be reasonably content with that. Simonetta got the young Player of the Month award and Oskarsson came in 3rd with his goal against Liverpool for the goal of the month competition. icon14.gif

Results

Torquay 1 - 2 Portsmouth

Torquay 2 - 2 Preston

Torquay 3 - 1 Wigan

Torquay 0 - 3 Stoke

Torquay 1 - 0 Brighton

Torquay 1 - 3 Plymouth (Vans Trophy 1st Rd)

Torquay 1 - 4 Oxford

Torquay 5 - 1 Wolves (League Cup 4th Round)

As you can see a mix of results but after hammering Wolves 5-1 away who are in the premiership hopefully Torquay could keep up the same performances.

Torquay Vs Swansea

On the bounce of a great 5-1 victory at Wolves, it was time to improve on their league status. And what can i say, the team outdone their performance against wolves and put in a great outstanding performance against swansea. The score ended up a scoring spree for the gulls as it finished 10-0. With nearly everyone chipping in with a goal.

MOM - Everyone deserved this award. So the gulls deserve a Team Of The Match Award.

FInal Score - Torquay 10 - 0 Swansea

Brentford vs Torquay

It just had to happen, after 2 great performances, a bad one had to come and this was it. The first goal from brentford came after Torquays keeper stuttered on a lose ball and it was capitilised on the Brentford Striker. More bad finsihing from us proved costly as brentford grabbed more goals.

MOM - John Jones, Could Only Try his best.

Final Score - Brentford 4 - 0 Torquay

Fa Cup 1st Rd

Farnborough vs Torquay

Well on the bounce off a poor performance we needed to get back on track with at least a win, this looked very unlikely when Farnborough took the lead late in the 2nd half but Toruqay went for it and even when Simon Mensing was sent off we exposed ourself at the back leaving just 2 centre backs to cope with farnborough's attack, this proved out to be a great risk when makofo came up with some magic to score 2 goals in the space of a minute.

MOM - Serge Makofo, Saved the Fa Cup run for us.

Final Score - Farnborough 1 - 2 Torquay

Farnborough vs Torquay

Once again poor goalkeeping put us behind after 22 mins, when a easy free kick somehow crept past the Gulls keeper. This was rectified 2mins later when great work from Hodges down the left found David Graham all clear who finished it nicely in the top corner. The 2nd half came and a great start from torquay saw Makofo close down a short back pass to round the keeper to make it 2-1. It was looking secure until Farnborough won a corner and with the Torquay team giving the player so much time he could of took 3 shots, but he got a shot off and was finsihed to make the score 2-2.

MOM - David Graham, Tried to work the farnborough defence and got a goal for his troubles.

Final Score - Farnborough 2 - 2 Torquay

Torquay Vs Ipswich

A solid display helped overcome a strong and experienced Ipswich team. Ipswich has a ferocious front line with Ben Bowditch and Darren Bent. These 2 were going to be hard to track around but not as hard as first thought. Due to Torquay's determined midfield, Ipswich hardly got a sniff on goal as Torquay went into half time with a 2-0 lead with goals from on form Makofo and Gary Roberts from the Penalty Spot. The 2nd half started the same as the first with Torquay dominating and creating many chances to finish off Ipswich, but the 3rd goal never came and with Ipswich failing to create anything it ended up a 2-0 win for the Gulls.

MOM - Richards Jones, Ran the Midfield.

Final Score - Torquay 2 - 0 Ipswich

Southend vs Torquay

5th Vs 6th this game was. Torquay got off to a great start with david Graham scoring after 2 mins. SOuthend came back into the game a little but couldnt fin an opening in the 1st half. Torquay came out assured in the 2nd half, but a Southend free kick put the scores on level term. SOuthend then attack The Gulls strongly and got a goal but it was flagged offside to Torquays relief. Then up came makofo on 90mins to slot a shot into the bottom corner to make it 2 - 1 to Torquay.

MOM - Serge Makofo, Got the crucial goal to go 2nd in the league.

Final Score - Southend 1 - 2 Torquay

Torquay vs Blackpool

A quick start from Blackpool shocked the home team when an inswinging corner caught the the Torquay defence napping to senak a near post header into the back of the net. Torquay were straight back onto the ball with a thumping strike from Graham into the back of the net. Torquay then found it harder and harder to break down Blackpool, as they put up a wall which was keeping our attack from getting in. Then some great build up play gave a chance for Graham to get the winner and he finished it in good fashion sending the keeper the wrong way with a well placed Header.

MOM - David Graham, Scored 2 pricless goals to put a small but good enuff gap between themselves and the playoff places.

Final Score - Torquay 2 - 0 Blackpool

League Cup 5th Round

Steveanage(Andy) vs Torquay

No Doubt Andy's Steveange had a reserve team out but on paper it looked slightly stronger then the Torquay team. They started the brighter when hitting the upright soon after the Kick-Off. Then a sucker-punch with their first shot on target they score with a neat finish in the bottom left corner. Steveanage then dominated the rest of the 1st half as expereince proved the upper hand against the gulls. 2nd half started no changes from Rob White as he trusted his frist choice they could do something, and they did. They started passing the ball more and closing down the opposition quicker which ended up in a well deserved equaliser for the Gulls. The game then went end to end with Steveanage having the best of chances to win the game, but with poor finishing from both teams ended up taking the game in Extra Time. The tiredness of the players started to settle in with neither team creating good chances to win the game so it was invetiable that it went into penalties. A tense shoot-out between 2 good teams got even tense as both teams scored their first 2 penalties, but Torquay was the first team to miss a penalty, and it was an ex-steveange player who missed coincidence i think not icon_smile.gif but all was well when Stevanage missed the chance to win the game, by missing the next penalty giving Adams a chance to put it back on level terms, which he done in style with a well placed top-corner effort also sedning the keeper the wrong way. Now it was back on level terms it was now into sudden death, and with a unluky effort from the Steveanage player that came off the inside post and rolled across the line this great Johnathan Heathcote the chance to Knock another premiership team out of the league cup and he dont it with great ease when he sent the keepr the wrong way to send Torquay into the 6th Round.

MOM - James Graham, Experience counts when playing top teams.

Final Score - Steveanage 1 - 1 Torquay (4 - 5 after pens)

Once again good performances by Torquay but still can be better, sitting 2nd in the league, beating 2 premiserhip clubs to keep in the league cup and also a FA CUP 2nd round draw to come up what could be better for The Gulls.

Dont forget, it was Penalties that the reserves lost on so no shame at all, at least they cant complain about not getting enough games now as they've had 3 games and 2 of them went to penalties so if they want more games they know they have to win, although they should have gone out against Burton Albion tbh but they were even worse than us at penalties icon_smile.gif

stevenage.JPG?Planet Stevenage : The Countdown To Survival

Monster Session last night, we got through quite a few games and so its gonna be a huge update thats for sure. Well I know we're the new boys to the premiership and basically are the smallest team in the premiership (ever) and our players arnt the best but it still frustrates me loads when I lose icon_frown.gif I just like winning too much icon_biggrin.gif

Anyway, our defence still plays like its in the conference cos there seems to be a really big invisible hole and they leak goals despite trying every different option possible.........well near the end of the monster session there might have been some hope! Yes Hope! As we managed to keep some clean sheets and also amazingly scored more than 1 goal a game and concede less than 2 which seemed like the trend for the season. So here goes.......

Away @ Villa Park vs Aston Villa

It was a bright sunny afternoon in the West Midlands, we rolled into Birmingham and were ready for the game. The players came out the tunnel and were ready to go, well all apart from the defence it seemed. We took the lead but Villa managed to pull one back before the break. Thats about as exciting as it got in the first half but we then came out flying in the second half were our strikeforce managed to score more than one goal! We scored two more and we were cruising to the finish 3-1......until the defence decided to call it a night and go to the pub, yep we concede two goals and only go home with a draw.

Full Time : 3-3 Poole, Magno (2)

Away @ St.Mary's vs Southampton

We travelled once again and this time to the south coast to visit Southampton, well unfortunately it didnt go our way at all, we managed to score more than one goal again but the defence just frustrated me even more when they didnt bother to tackle and really made too many errors. Still the best thing to come out of it all is that we are scoring more than one goal so hopefully if we can improve defensively and get much better results.

Full Time : 3-2 Lindqvist, Magno

Visiting us @ Broadhall Way is Newcastle

The champions have come to town to strutt their stuff and they certainly did that, it was Klose who ran things for the Magpies and we were very lucky only to lose by one goal the way the first half went, we did show something of a fight back but it just wasnt enough to pull something out the bag.

Full Time : 0-1

Away @ Ewood Park vs Blackburn

We seem to be doing loads of travelling at the moment and not really getting much either, something that needs to be improved. Tried to motivate the lads before the game and get some flair going but I think we just need to construct a brick wall in our defence as yet another sloppy goal goes past us, but it didnt stop there, we went down to 10men!!! Poole got sent off the idiot. But who needs 11 when 10 can do the job icon_biggrin.gif In the last 25minutes of the game we countered Blackburn loads of times and Hidalgo and Tiffert ran their defence riot. After a massive sprint down the wing by Tiffert, Hidalgo got a rebount to level it before Tiffert himself was setup by Hidalgo straight down the middle of the park to notch it past the keeper, Tiffert had done brilliantly today and should have got a hattrick in the end!

Full Time : 1-2 Hidalgo, Tiffert

Visiting us @ Broadhall Park is Torquay League Cup 4th Round

well it was time for the reserves to get another game as its a cup game. Well they managed to take the lead aswell oddly enough. Both sides then continued to miss plenty of decent chances until Rob's Torquay side got a deserved equaliser. It went to boring extra time where nothing exciting happened and then of course it went to penalties. It looked like the Gulls were going to go out but then an injured player with 55% fitness to the last penalty and missed, then the next one hitting the bar in sudden death with the ball rolling across the line and the Gulls took advantage and scored to advance to the quarter finals. Fully deserved for Rob and his team to advance cos we'd only exit sooner or later anyway.

Full Time : 1-1P Magno

Visiting us @ Broadhall Way is Chelsea

Roman's Billionaires came to town and I wanted to avoid a thrashing by the talent they put on show. Well we also changed to a new tactic for this game but we couldnt avoid the thrashing........no its not what your thinking, we completely walked all over Chelsea and showed them that you don't need millions and millions to do well as fighting spirit and determination is also needed. Chelsea had some very good chances to score but somehow our leaky defence managed to hold onto a clean sheet and the strikers went on a rampage as on form Juliusson scored along with Hidalgo and it was all rounded up with a brace by Tiffert.

Full Time : 4-0 Juliusson, Hidalgo, Tiffert(2)

Away @ Craven Cottage vs Fulham

From thrashing Chelsea to getting the Blues, it was the first 15minutes which killed us in this game completely, we let three stupid goals in before once again a tactic change was implemented. We dominated the rest of the game but we just couldnt score at all, if it was a game of Rugby League then we would have easily come out on top with a score line of about 50-3.

Full Time : 3-0

Visiting us @ Broadhall Way is Liverpool

Well they have a multi talented squad, the super stars of Owen, Gerrard etc are still in the team but oddly enough Pool are currently in relegation zone and struggling somewhat to get out. So of course we had to do something against them as it could be one of the teams we have to fight it out with to avoid relegation. It went pretty well to plan, we managed to hold them out successfully and best of all we got a striker who wants to score, a new hero has emerged in Hidalgo who scores once more this season.

Full Time : 1-0 Hidalgo

Away @ White Hart Lane vs Spurs

Who would think that Spurs are fighting out for the title, well they have had some good form and also took the lead in this game through more crap defending from our defence, but we managed to get one back with the on form colombian, despite dominating the rest of the game we once again couldnt score and then the defence wandered off again to let them in and collect the prize!

Full Time 2-1 Hidalgo

Visiting us @ Broadhall Way is Wolves

The Wolves come to town! We currently seem to be decent at home and rubbish away, to go with that lovely mix is a win one, lose one repetition too. So it continued, we lost against Spurs so at home versus Wolves we came all guns blazing and got the reward, once more a tactic change to try and stop the crap in defence so thankfully it wasnt tested too much by Wolves. Attacking though was great and we ran riot up front. Hidalgo and Ferreira were the best two players on the park and they also scored aswell which was fully deserved.

Full Time : 3-0 Ferreira, Hidalgo (2)

Away @ Old Trafford vs Man Utd

Should rename the squad to "we need a new defence" as once more the magical display of the Stevenage defence was on show, plenty of times they just ball watched and didnt even bother to try and challenge the oncoming strikers which I know their capable off. So we walked away from the theatre of dreams with nightmares!

Full Time : 3-0

Visiting us @ Broadhall Way is Middlesbrough FA Cup 3rd Round

Its cup time again and the reserves get pushed in again to put on a display and if they had any brains, show a decent display and push themselves into a first team spot. Well it didnt start well for them at all as they went 2-0 down in the first half! Well first 20 minutes even! So sick of this bamboo.....oops, The reserve defence is just as bad the first team so a massive radical change was neded once more. Well once more Rugby league style upfront but we managed to get a goal Poole and the comeback was then completed when Christie scored against his former employer, both strikers should have had hattricks.

Full Time : 2-2 Christie, Poole

Away @ Riverside, Middlesbrough

So we just played them with our reserves in the cup, so I did the changes that were implemented in the last game to see if they still work and without a doubt they did just that. With our new tactic we managed to outplay Boro completely and finally get three points from an away game, they are very much needed points and take us further to our 40point marker.

Full Time : 0-2 Viera, Huckerby

Visiting us @ Broadhall Way is Sheff Wed

Its time to face the owls again who got promoted to the prem along with ourselves, we beat them before so we knew what we had to do. Could we win two games in a row and even keep another clean sheet? Well quite frankly yes we could! Sheff Wed are bottom of the league and its a team we have to beat and I really wanted to beat so that we get nearer to our target for survival. The on-form players were involved once again and Juliusson scored again past them again, followed by strikes from Tiffert and Hidalgo to secure victory!

Full Time : 3-0 Juliusson, Tiffert, Hidalgo

So the end of the session saw us get some kind of form together and we not only scored but we managed not to concede and have started to keep some clean sheets. our expansion had also finished in November meaning we now have a stadium with a capacity of just over 10k.

We managed to also bring in a class young defender in Bert Peters, the Dutch U21 was released by Ajax so we snapped up the 17year old. He's played a couple of games for us too and has replaced Howard in defence, with his pace, tackling and heading skills he has been doing a much better job than some of the current lot at the back and has plenty of years to even improve on them stats.

Next update will also give detail of some bosnam sigings coming in for next season which should help bolster the squad in all departments.

The final game of the year and West Ham see it off in good style as they overcome QPR. Goals from Oskarsson, Bowyer and Melchiot sink the hoops with only a Ghioane strike in response! icon14.gif

The month ended with West Ham finishing top in the Champions League group, and reaching the League cup Semi – final but still not top, with the home defeat against Middlesbrough and conceding the late equaliser at Hillsborough against Sheffield Wednesday not helping the situation. We still managed to get 13 points from a possible 18 and are still in contention, so all is not lost! icon14.gif

Tiger Times

The League Campaign

Well after 14 games or so of the season Hull find themselves in with a great chance of securing a respectable league position in the Premiership. They currently find themselves in second position behind Paul Rouch's all conquering West Ham. Here is a rundown of the latest games....

Hull v Tottenham - (H) - 1-0

A repeat of last years FA Cup final at The Circle and a repeat of the same outcome - a Hull victory. Another hard fought tense encounter with not many chances being created. It took a piece of brilliance from emerging superstar Freddy Guarin to seal the win for Hull.

Wolves v Hull - (A) - 2-3

The Wolves jinx struck Hull again here as they could not close this game, having been ahead twice but they could not hold on to the lead or a point. Borriello opened the scoring for Hull three minutes into the second half only for Wolves to equalise through Kenny Miller. Former Wolves player Okoronkwo then put Hull ahead once again but Wolves fought back to equalise through Carruthurs and they finally pressed for a winner that came from Chopra. A poor defensive crumble from Hull after playing so well for an hour of this match.

Hull v Man Utd - (H) - 2-1

After the disappointment at Wolves Man Utd came calling at The Circle looking for a win over Hull. On the other hand Hull were wanting to keep up Hepburn's incredible record of never losing to Utd since he took over as Hull boss. It was a tight game with few chances but Freddy Guarin was the star of this game as everything good from Hull went through him. Borriello got Hull off tot he best possible start with a super goal after only eleven minutes. The great Del Piero levelled things for Utd but only for Guarin to strike the winner for Hull just after the hour mark. Great performance.

Middlesbrough v Hull - (A) - 0-0

It was a travesty that Hull did not come out of this game as winners. They bombarded the Boro goal with attack after attack but they could not find a way past Schwarzer on the Boro goal. A mixture of terrible finishing and his superb goalkeeping meant Hull dropped more points.

Hull v Sheffield Wednesday - (H)- 1-0

Another awesome performance from Hull but again no end product but this time they did manage to score. It was one traffic and it should have been more. Borriello opened the scoring for Hull early but they just could not add to their lead.

Hull v Aston Villa - (H) - 1-0

Another classy performance from Hull only to be denied time and time again by Thomas Sorensen. Hull passed up chance after chance before right back Jon Otsemobor embarked on a mazy solo run and finished it off with a great strike.

West Ham v Hull - (A) - 0-5

Terrible game from Hull. Paul Rouch's West Ham wiped the floor with them. Fell alseep so missed all the goals.

Hull v QPR - (H) - 2-0

A performance full of class as they overwhelmed QPR and created many chances but not enough end product for Hepburn's liking. They did manage to score twice with goals from Aghahowa and Guarin giving Hull three more points. It should have been more but woeful finishing from Hull put paid to that but a win none the less.

Everton v Hull - (A) - 2-0

Next up was a trip to Goodison to face an Everton side struggling to overcome the loss of their leader Mark Brown. They had no answer to Hull's pace and power down the flanks as Partridge and Marinelli overan the Ton full backs. Two goals from Julius Aghahowa sealed a fine win for Hull.

Hull v Arsenal - (H) - 2-1

Having thrashed Arsenal twice last season the Hull fans were wanting more of the same this season. Things started off badly for Hull as Arsenal took the lead after only seven minutes with a goal from Miccoli. Hull got back into the match through a penalty from Richie Partridge to level things then Hull took the lead thanks to a goal from Aghahowa and that goal proved to be the winner as Arsenal pushed for an equaliser but it never came.

Hull v WBA - (H) - 2-1

Hull keeping up their superb run in this game with another great performance. They were taken by surprise as WBA took a shock lead after just five minutes through new signing Nicolas Anelka. This just made Hull mad and went about putting WBA to the sword. They would have but for some brilliant goalkeeping from Morgan De Sanctis. Hepburn made a couple of changes on the hour mark as WBA were still 1-0 up. On came Stuart Elliot and Richie Partridge to turn the game on it's head. Two goals in the space of five minutes turned this game in Hull's favour, one from each substitute and gave Hull a deserved victory in the end.

Man City v Hull - (A) - 1-0

Daz's Man City pulled off a shock 1-0 victory at Maine Road as Hull were caught napping in injury time. It was a game of very few chances and the ones that came Hull's way were passed up. Then in stoppage time a killer blow to Hull's title hopes as one time Hull target Anatoli Todorov scored the winner for City.

Hull v Stevenage - (H) - 0-0

It was time for Stevenage to come to The Circle for the first time as boy did they put on a good show. Hull were strong favourites but Stevenage battled hard and had it not been for David Marshall in the Hull goal they could have been a couple of goals to the good by half time. Hull came out in the second half with more purpose and tried to create a few chances but Paul Robinson in the Stevenage goal was on fine form.

The Champions League Adventure.

Hull v Lazio - (H) - 1-1

After the disappointment in Rome Hull had to go for the win. They started off well enough but fell behind through a goal from Lazio forward Bernardo Corradi and from then on it they were chasing the game for most of the half. They were almost trying to hard to get the equaliser. Midway through the second half they got the equaliser from an unlikely source in Okoronkwo. They pushed for the winner but it never came as Peruzzi much like in the first leg was in no mood to concede another.

Hull v Bayern Munich - (H) - 0-1

Another game and yet another stunning performance from the opposing goalkeeper. This time the keeper was Oliver Kahn. It all started very badly for Hull as Said stupidly gave away a goal and it proved to be extremely costly as Hull were not able to get back onto level terms and left their champions league dreams hanging by a thread.

Besiktas v Hull - (A) - 1-1

So it was all down to this game. Hull had to win and hope Bayern Munich could do them a favour. They got off to the worst possible start as they gifted Besiktas a penalty but fought back into the game thanks to a goal from Danny Allsopp. from then on it was one way traffic as Hull desperatley wanted the win to progress. For Besiktas it was all hands on deck to weather the storm. They have to thank Oscar Cordoba as he was immense to keep Hull out. So the champions league dream was over for Hull but they hope to be back next season for another assault on Europe's finest.

FA Cup

Hull started the defence of their trophy with a fairly easy tie away at Lincoln. They ran out easy 3-0 winners with goals from Borriello, Naylor and Partridge. It was at times a practice match for Hull as Lincoln were chasing shadows for most of the game.

Into round four and they were drawn away to Tottenham in a repeat of last year's final. It was a fairly even game and very tight but Helder Postiga of tottenham proved to be the match winner for Tottenham as he scored to avenge the cup defeat from last year. After Tottenham scored Hull never looked like getting back into the game.

So Hull, after last year's exploits are failing to live up to expectations this year. Faltering in the league and now out of both domestic cups. The only bright light on the horozion for them is a possible UEFA Cup run again and Hepburn is hoping they do well in that to give them at least something to show for their efforts. Low on confidence Hepburn has a tough job on his hands to motivate his team for the conclusion of the season.

Hammers at home in the elite 07-08

After a mixed bag in December, which saw a run of form at the end, The Hammers entered the new year in good shape, still in all competitions, and then signing Bonera from Arsenal on a Bosman. Bonera will be joining the club at the end of this season! icon14.gif

Tue, 1.1.2008 - 19:30 (H) Everton - Premier Division

Back to business as the hammers look to extend their good run into the new year, The Hammers face Everton at the Boleyn and continued to demonstrate their fire power as the Hammers take the scousers apart. Robinho opens the deluge on 21, Simonmetta adding just before half time. The second half saw Olikseh needlessly sent off but West Ham still managed another 2 goals, both from Arteta, as the 10 men take the three points! icon_cool.gif

The gooners were the next to visit Fortress Boleyn and the Hammers were still in invincible form. Simonetta started the blood letting after just 10 minutes. Arteta built on that with the Hammers second 5 minutes later. Simonetta grabbed another on the half hour, Arsenal; even contributed to the hammers â€for†column with an own goal from Ashley Cole on 40. The second half calmed down with Simonetta completing his hatrick and Miccoli grabbing a late consolation for the Gooners. icon_biggrin.gif

Darren Gray was the next manager to bring his team to Upton Park, and the blue half of Manchester shocked the home fans by taking the lead! Oskarsson soon corrected that though, but West Ham were warned that Man City were not going to rollover like some of the visitors in recent weeks! Simonetta put the Irons ahead only for Todorov to take a leaf out of Oskarssons book, and cancel out the effort almost immediately! Level at half time and Citeh were really asking questions of the hammers. Simonetta put the hammers in front shortly after the restart, and again Todorov levelled. This seemed to Inspire Simonetta and he netted twice more to grab 4 in the game! This time the West Ham defence held firm against a number of Man City attacks and were thankful for Basturks lack of vision in shooting instead of passing on a number of occasions, The win is deserved but hard fought icon_cool.gif

The first leg of the league cup at Upton Park, and the players are very up for it! Simonetta scored after 14 minutes and the team started to play the ball around as Palace never really threaten. Oliseh doubles the tally and Robinho makes it look easy just before half time. The second half sees a more defensively organised eagles side and West Ham continue to play the ball around to cheers of Ole from the crowd as the scoreline remains the same icon_cool.gificon14.gif

West Ham fans were beginning to wonder if the teams wonderful could go much further before the wheels begin to fall off? Well Oskarsson put them at rest after 60 seconds as he put the hammers on their way, Arteta grabbed another 5 minutes later and a rout was on the cards, Coventry briefly caused concern when the pulled a goal back but that just spurred the Hammers on with Arteta grabbing another 3 and Kristjanssen scoring to make it 6-1 and put the hammers through to the next round icon_biggrin.gif

Wed, 30.1.2008 - 19:45 (H) Stevenage - Premier Division

The final game of January is against Steve Golds Stevenage and what a tough game for the hammers it turned out to be! Huckerby gave the ‘boro a well deserved first half lead, and the West Ham dressing room was not a place to be as a player! The flying tea cups and kicked boots seemd to wake the hammers though as they were a more attacking side in the second half and their effort was rewarded when Oskarsson, on for the below par Arteta, levelled on 58. The game was still evenly poised but the hammers somehow managed to steal 3 points when a share of the spoils would have been fairer, Montalvan put the hammers in front and then Oskarsson scored to give the score a rather lopsided loo. A close game but the hammers sneak the 3 points

A fantastic month which saw the hammers cruise through with a 100% record. Not surprisingly, the West Ham Manager, Paul Rouch received the manager of the month award, Jason Brown, The Hammers Keeper received the player of the month award, and Alessamndro Simonetta was presented with the young player of the month award! The Hammers have done the groundwork for winning through to the league cup finalby winning the first leg convincingly, Are still in the FA Cup, and now 8points clear at the top of the premiership! A good month indeed icon_biggrin.gif

stevenage.JPG?Planet Stevenage : Survival Revival - We Fight Till The End

Its been an exciting couple of sessions in the Stevenage camp after the frustrating times we had earlier on in the season. Well it seems the new tactic implemented is working a treat for us and if we had even better players then would give the other managers a massive scare.

Well we got some bosnams coming in too and I'm very exciting about them as their are top draw players, but you'll see later who we got in so far!

Away vs MiddlesbroughFA Cup Replay

I think Boro must be getting absolutel sick of us, first we get back from 2-0 down to get the replay and then we follow it up with beating them in the league. So then Boro once again took the lead early on in the game, but it wasnt long till we equalised through Poole. The game went into extra time where super sub Notman scored two goals for us in each half of extra time, Boro did get another goal but it wasnt enough to get back into the match.

Full Time : Middlesbrough 2 - 3 Stevenage Poole, Notman (2).

Away vs Hull

We go to visit Andy's mighty Tigers at The Circle, having frightened them the first time round with taking a 2-0 lead, I'm sure they didnt under estimate us too much. Well with our new found form we continued in a positive way and should have scored a few goals but Andy had his keeper Marshall to thank quite a lot. The second half Hull came at us a bit more but with Robinson showing another strong performance things stayed level.

Full Time : Hull 0 - 0 Stevenage

Home vs Nottingham ForestFA Cup 4th Round

The Reserves are on a roll, they managed to squeeze past Boro and this time round they chopped down the Forest. An amazing display by the whole Reserve team and they really are fighting to get places in the first team and see Premiership action. It was pacey midfielder Carl Lewis who started the rout followed with a goal from one former Man Utd youth player David Poole. The scoring was completed when Gilder smashed in a 35 yard screamer into the top right hand corner.

Full Time : Stevenage 3 - 0 Nottingham Forest Lewis, Gilder, Poole.

Home vs West Ham

The mighty "thrashing any team that comes in their path" Hammers come to town next. The aim was to concede less than 7 goals that we let last time round. Well we started very positively indeed and Hidalgo had numerous chances to score and build up a big lead. It was long serviving member Huckerby who gave us a very deserved first half lead. The second half saw Hammers put a lot more pressure on after some changes from the manager, it was defensive set plays that really let us down as they scored two goals from corners but at least it was a much stronger performances than before and we did well against probably the best team in the league.

Full Time : Stevenage 1 - 3 West Ham Huckerby.

Away vs QPR

We went to Loftus road to pay our respects, its a mid-table team who I would like to beat. Of course the tradition of previous seasons returned, we lose a game and the lads get annoyed and take out their frustration on the next team! Hidalgo was the star man in this game without a shadow of a doubt. Having missed some great chances against West Ham he made up for it here as he scored not one, not two, no not even a hattrick.......he banged in 5 goals after some tremendous team work. The tie was as good as over until Dyer came on as a sub and scored a last minute scorcher to complete the thrashing of QPR.

Full Time : QPR 0 - 6 Stevenage Hidalgo (5), Dyer.

Home vs Everton

Well the scousers aint nicking anything away from us, we padlocked everything up and built a brick wall so they couldnt score past us. Well it worked a treat as we thrashed the Toffee's and put them in a sticky relegation zone position. Magno Silva-Viera showed the promising form he had last season and he bagged himself a brace, his effort was followed up by the inspirational midfielder Marco Ferreira.

Full Time : Stevenage 3 - 0 Everton Magno (2), Marco.

Away vs OldhamLeague Cup 5th Round

Once again, Step Up The Reserves, having put on a great display against a good opponent in the last round they certainly didnt disappoint us here either. They did an ever better job this time round actually. After early dominance it was a corner that gave us the lead, it was unsettled croatian defender Kovacic who got the goal. Then it was the strikers who completed the thrashing and end Oldham's dream, Notman and Huckerby both almost scored a hattrick but had to settle for a brace each.

Full Time : Oldham 0 - 5 Stevenage Kovacic, Notman (2), Huckerby (2).

Away vs Arsenal

We visit Ashburton Grove to be gunned down in broad day light......wrong! Them stupid Gunners where still relying on old Cannons so of course we had an unbelievable field day with our new artillary! In an absolute shocker of a game it was the mighty red of Stevenage that walked all over the field and looked right at home. The inspirational midfield and front line took charge once more and Hidalgo continues his scoring touch with another brace.

FUll Time : Arsenal 0 - 4 Stevenage Tiffert, Hidalgo (2), Juliusson.

Home vs WBA

Well this game should have seen loads of goals too, we dominated play throughout the match but we just couldnt score past the Baggies. Our defence has been nothing short of excellent lately with keeping yet another clean sheet! Only conceded against the mighty hammers in recent league games.

Full Time : Stevenage 0 - 0 WBA

Away vs Man City

The scores were level in the first meeting between the two promoted sides and should have seen goals for sure. Well this one started out brilliantly for us as within the first 20minutes we were all over City and should have scored at least 3 or 4 goals. But we failed to do so but continued outplay Citeh until............they completely crippled us to death, yes Citeh took not one, not two but three of ours out and never even got booked, we then also had young dutch defender Bert Peters get sent off and having made a subs change earlier to get a defender in, it meant it was 9vs11. Bloody Citeh, well even after tactical changes the Citeh still couldnt score! But then, Basturk the Turkish diving extravaganza went down in the box and Albrecht converted the penalty for Citeh. It was an exciting game that would have ended so much differently if the Citeh wernt so dirty!! icon_wink.gificon_biggrin.gif

Full Time : Man City 1 - 0 Stevenage

Well it has certainly been a massive turn around for us at Stevenage, we have also now passed the 40 point marker and survival in the top league should hopefully be secured now. Well the last couple of sessions have been good for us as out the last 9 games we only conceded in 2 of them which really pleases me as our defence was shockingly bad. The second half of the season has seen new life and we have certainly frightened a few sides with what we already got at Broadhall Way but personally I want much better quality even though its only our first season in the top flight.

So onto the exciting bit now, who are we getting in to Broadhall Way to improve the squad and meet our targets next season.

Well I am please to announce that Aliardiere has agreed to sign, the young pacey french forward is currently on loan in Spain but has been knocking in the goals quite often.

We're absolutely delighted to announce our biggest ever signing, its the one and only Dennis Rommedahl, his pace certainly will help us as will his experience as he is just into him prime.

We also have Higginbotham joining us from Southampton, for some reason out of favour for the Saints so I'm delighted to have snapped up such a quality defender, not only has he got bags of pace but great tackling and heading.

We also snapped up a young gun in Paul McDonald, currently at Forest he just turned 20 and seems very much like a Scholes type player, bags of pace once more and brilliant all round attributes for this attacking midfielder.

I think thats it so far, we are looking to getting in a couple more fantastic players but we will have to see what happens but its looking good at Stevenage at this moment of time and there is even a possibility of an Uefa Cup place too, what an achievement for the smallest club in the Premiership!

Southampton vs Torquay

After the first tie at Plainmoor the gulls felt that should have edged that one but they failed to so it went to a replay at St Marys. A lifeless first 20 minutes saw most of the possesion kept in the middle of the park with only long balls getting through. Then the deadlock was broken once good build up play ended up with a ball played into the box and richard jones poaching on a loose ball to make it 1-0. Then 5 mins later Torquay were in wonderland as great play from makofo worked his way into the box to square back to graham who finished it nicely away from the keeper. Torqay could not play better as they started running rings round southampton who were struggling to cope with the Gulls. As always Serge Makofo got his name on the scoresheet on the 33rd minute. The second half proved a bit different as Southampton started to attack but a quick counter attack from The Gulls got Graham through to make it 4-0 to Torquay. Remember Southampton are a Premiership and Torquay are still that small southern team building its way up through the divisions. The match ended 4-0 with southampton not doing good enough for a premiership team and Torquay excelling theirselves to full potential.

Torquay Vs Newcastle

After overcoming 2 premiership teams already this season, the cup once again drew another premiership team for The Poor Gulls. A great performance from the lads fought a 2-2 draw to send the tie into a replay at ST James Park. More money for the gulls is a plus but the tired of the players is starting to get to the team.

A goal in the frist minute for Swansea triggered a very poor start to the game when 5 mins later another shot that seemed to go straight through The GUlls keeper. Things couldnt get any worse once Swansea won a penatly in the 21st minute . 3-0 to swansea with only 21mins gone, what has gone wrong. Swansea still pressed on and on towards The Gulls goal but were lacking the finish they had in the opening minutes of the match. Second Half saw 2 subs coming on for Torquay both attacking options as The Gulls went searching for 3 vital goals. Nothing changed and Swansea still presses but Torquay were coming back into the game. But not enough passing and movement for the Gulls lacked. A Goal in the 93rd mintue for promising striker Ben Harrison came as a plus for the player as he scored his 3rd impressive goal of the season.

stevenage.JPG?Planet Stevenage : Survival.....For A European Place!

Yes you heard right, from fighting relegation Stevenage are now suddenly fighting for not just a place in the Uefa Cup but even a possible Champions League place. The recent good form has seen Stevenage keep out some of the best strikers in the Premiership and beat some of the best teams the premiership has to offer. Since losing the last game we didnt want to lose anymore, its a big target for us to do that with us facing more big teams like Newcastle which everyone struggles against, although the target is not impossible!

So we begin the round up with the FA Cup 6th Round.....

Home vs Barnsley League Cup 6th Round

Well the game went pretty much our way, Barnsley had a couple of chances to score but it was the reserves who were the dominated team once again. But with 6 strikers out injured, we had our youth players upfront and they missed some fantastic chances the midfield had created. Well it ended up going to a reply!

Full Time : Stevenage 0 - 0 Barnsley

Home vs Aston Villa

After drawing the first time out against the Villans which I saw as a poor result cos we should have won, it was time to show them what should have happened! Well it wasnt going to be easy as we still have plenty of first team strikers out injured since the Citeh game but we battled hard, very hard. It was the club captain and legend Juliusson who opened the account with a fierce 30 yard screamer. His effort was followed up with a close range effort from Huckerby after very much dominating the play. It was then the final minutes of the game which again Villa suddenly came alive and got a stupid goal, the defender had the ball infront of him but didnt kick it letting them strike it in easy. A tense final few minutes now left but their was a big relieve when Lewis smashed in a 30 yard free kick just before the full time whistle went.

Full Time : Stevenage 3 - 1 Aston Villa Lewis, Huckerby, Juliusson.

Home vs Southampton

We're certainly getting in the revenue now with our third home game in a row. With a good win ove Villa who had assembled a great squad its time to face the Saints who still had their strong strike force. Well thankfully they didnt get too many chances at all in this game and the defence once more got a clean sheet, yes they continue their great form at the bag. At the other end the strikers are slowly making a comeback with only a week out till they return to action, so it was time to put Huckerby into the driving seat and he repaid that with some cracking goals, he managed to score two goals either side of Hidalgo's great effort to round things up and take us even higher up the table.

Full Time : Stevenage 3 - 0 Southampton Huckerby (2), Hidalgo.

Away vs Barnsley FA Cup Replay

Its replay time and we got some reserves strikers back now from injury. So once again the reserves do what they do best, losing! Once more it looked like that Stevenage were out of it as Barnsley took the lead, they continued to fire at our target but amazingly we managed to snatch one back with Lewis. But then we went 2-1 down with Barnsley firing more at our goal but then a break-away! Yes we managed to counter attack from a setplay and it was 3vs1, Moran the youth striker went for goal instead of passing it......he scored his first goal for the club and what a goal it was! We then went into extra time were things stayed level and just before it went to penalties, their keeper Enckelmann got injured! Cracking as they got no subs to replace him. We went into penalties with confidence, surely a non-keeper cant save the Tykes now. In True fashion we scored our first pen with the keeper going the wrong way, Miranda saves their penalty and we then went on to score the next three and Miranda saved another one making it 4-1 on pens.

Full Time : Barnsley 2 - 2 Stevenage (Stevenage win on Pens 4-2) Lewis, Moran.

Away vs Newcastle

The big game! Newcastle are one of the tops up there among the Champions league places, everyone has struggled against the Magpies as they have a very strong team. They beat us last time out by a close scoreline of 1-0, so it was time for revenge! Both teams had excellent chances to score in this game and Newcastle started to get the upper hand and even had a goal disallowed for offside. Then just minutes from time, sub Poole arrived on the scene, a counter attack set him on his way, he ran down the wing like a mad man and the keeper came out.......then a curling 30 yarder round the keeper and the Newcastle fans went quiet. Some tense last three minutes in the game then went and Stevenage managed to pull off one of their greatest results of their debutant premiership season.

Full Time : Newcastle 0 - 1 Stevenage Poole

What a cracking result it was, it opens up the league even more now and brings Stevenage into contention for the Champions League along with Man City. Both teams can make it if they beat Spurs and continue winning their remaining games, there are only about 7 games left now so everything is possible! We now face Blackburn in the Semi Final of the FA Cup, should be a cracking game and we could even win some unexpected Silverware!

So another good session and if we can continue this great form we have found then we could end the season in absolute style and with something we never expected.

Some more signings also have been made! Yes more signings, wanting to improve the defence even more I've brought in Paul Robinson from Millwall, very pacey defender who has top stats for Heading and Tackling. Also improved my left side with two fantastic signings in Gael Clichy from Arsenal and we brought a very experienced left winger in too, its the welsh wizard Ryan Giggs who will be joining us, he still has bags of pace and we really need an experienced player like him in the team. So its looking good for next season if all these players that are coming in perform.

We will also be getting rid of quite a few players to cut down the wage bill and also just to get rid of players who havnt performed as good as they could have. They include Seba Abreu, he has had a shockingly bad season and really has had plenty of chances to show his worth. Out the exit door will be a lot of reserves which include Johannsson, Borg, Humphreys. We're also getting rid of unsettled croat Kovacic, he was injured to begin with and then moaned too much, well he's getting a kick up the arse and out the door! There are others leaving and a full list of them all will be given at the end of the season icon_smile.gif

EFB Announcement

Its time again for some news from the EFB HQ, well I can reveal we have some excellent news. We have a new player joining our group, he has shown commitment and dedication and certainly knows how to write a quality update, he seems to be a very good CM Player and should fit in very well into the current EFB group. He has played in another top clan which unfortunately has now stopped and if we didnt snap him up then without a shadow of a doubt someone else would have done.

So I am pleased to reveal that joining the excellent and highly rated EFB clan is none other than Pete aka "chef" who until recently was enjoying life with EMA until their sudden end.

Pete was very happy with the invite to EFB and the hours suited him pretty well too, the offer of joining such a top quality clan was too hard to turn down.

So please welcome Pete into our excellent clan, I'm sure he will fit in very well and we should start seeing some quality updates from him. He has also chosen a team he wants to manage which will be Preston who are currently in a mid table position in Division 2.

So all the best of luck Pete, we're more than happy to have you onboard. icon_smile.gif

Andy H, shame on you greeting poor old chef with that illiterate and ill informed diatribe, us oldies are much healthier these days, we have our teeth capped instead of pulled out, so no falsies, we have motorised kimodes, so no need for a zimmer , and contact lenses replace the need for specs, or even laser corrective surgery! icon_razz.gif
