Nottingham Forest's B team

After last season losing out in the play-offs to a average run of the mill pub team A.F.C Telford, I know the shame of it.

we knew we didn't want to face another play-off lottery against the like of other pub teams like Barrow, Harrogate and Gainsboro.

So we knew a good start was most important if we wanted to win it out right.

Of course with the club being strapped for cash, we turned to Uncle Glenn Hoodle and his merry man of Nottingham Forest and pleaded with them to join us in our cause.

well like the men in tights they flocked down the road to Hinckley, We started in fine form going to 29th of November before losing our 1st league game, but by this point we had build up a cushion that would see us safe to the final day(well kinda safe)

SEASON 08/09

Finished the season as BSS no. 1!

Most wins, most goals for, biggest g.d., most points...

The board is happy, supporters are happy and I'm happy! BRING ON BSP! It will be tough and some new faces are bound to come in.

Here is roundup of my BEST ELEVEN from past season.

SEASON 08/09

BEST XI

ON THE FIELD

NAME P. PLAYED APPS GLS RAT

Aleksander Amarasingham GK 47 - 7.30

The youngster was signed for free season 07/08 (hes norwegian btw), 1st choice GK. Has showed some good improvement, expect a lot from him in the future. As a backup have singed a young slovak (or was is slovenian, can't remember exactly).

Barry Fuller DR 45 - 7.22

Was signed 07/08 with intention to play as MC but with his ability to play also as DR, became 1st choice DR someway middle of season 08/09. Theres no real backup for him so will look for backup/replacement during 09/10 preseason (probably replacement). His future role in the team is unknown. He is the Vice Captain of the squad though.... So some intense thinking on his role will be required.

Simon Spender DL 30 1 7.07

Good fullback, who is actually a natural DR, but with some training has become competent DL. Was rotating between DL and DR, together with Fuller and Tanner. Some clubs are after him but currently have no intention of letting him go.

Karl Yelland DC 31 - 7.23

Excellent loan signing from... can't remember, but was the best defender of the whole team (until the loaning of good West Ham youngster Tomkins in Febuary/March 2009... was not selected in the XI as he had too few games)

Adam Dugdale DC 25 - 6.96

Signed with high hopes, that he will improve and become a first team defender but that is not the case (yet). He was used as a rotation DC. But the fact, that he is chosen into the XI, shows how bad DC situation the Beavers have.

Maor Bozaglo MC (AMC) 44 36 7.84

Well... at the end of the season I had mixed emotions because of him and his performance. Yes, he is a real world beater and every opposing teams (in BSN at least) biggest nightmare (how does he even bother playing in a league where he just runs though the opposition defenses like hot knife though butter) and I'm happy he was ready to come to us on season long loan from WH. He did what was expected from him and more. But as the season draw to an end and mr. Hot-Knife left the squad, I started to feel strange. Wait a minute... is he coming back next season? Of course he will! Or will he... at that point I started to panic. What date is it? June already?! Whens the start of the season... in 2 months time?! If he will not come on loan next season, I better start looking for a backup... Anyway, if looking at the squad, there are some youngsters, who could step up at some point as a replacement for Bozaglo, but not next season, so will be out on the market for good buys/loans to fill these big boots.

Matty Crowell MC (DMC) 31 6 7.39

Matty was signed as a partner to Bozaglo and backup for Fuller on the midfield and was really good at it both with attack and defense. He was the teams pen taker and was also good at it. But because of my brief craziness, where I was thinking out loud, who should be the next captain and then gave the captains pen to Matty, just to take it away the next second, he got really unhappy with me. As a professional player he was still giving his all on the field, but you could see that he really took the captain incident hard, which I can understand, so he asked for a transfer and I accepted it. But I was not ready to let him go cheap, so managed to sell him to Eastleigh for 100K! Don't ask me where they got the money for that.. I do not know and I do not care!

Shaun Whalley MR (AMR) 43 7 7.47

Whalley is a player, who can play on both sides of the field with same good results. After selling Owain Warlow in the first part of the season (for 100K!), got more responsibility and eventually, because of his good performances on the field, became the main right winger. His performances have also made some clubs interested in him. But not planning to sell...

Kaarel Kaskpeit ML (AML) 31 11 7.55

This young 18yo countryman of mine (estonian) was found by my busy scouts so it was very nice surprise when preseason of 08/09 Kaskpeit was ready to come to trials with the Beavers. And he came out to be a good player. Fast, technical, mentally quite mature... so there was no question, I signed him right away. And he did not let me down!

Hogan Ephraim ST 45 39 7.71

Long story short. Came in for season long loan, same as mr. Bogzalo, except I should have strikers, who can replace him (not to the same extent, of course). Big thank you to him and hopefully also joins us mighty Beavers next season also. But if not, good luck!

Ian Hodges ST 37 13 7.11

Captain of the squad. Have been here from the beginning of my reign as a manager. Had a good season.

ON THE BENCH

NAME P. PLAYED APPS GLS RAT

Pavel Roos MC 2 - 6.00

Youngster with a prospect to become something in the future. Surprised to see him in the Season XI. That shows the limited depth of my midfield.

Craig Tanner DL 27 - 7.07

Good rotation player, mainly playing as DL but have used also as DR several time. Hope to see some improvement from him to challenge Spender for first team place next season.

Marcus Kelly ML/R (AML/R) 27 8 7.41

Good player, able to play both sides of the field. Fighting mainly with Whalley for first team place and had several good spells during the season. Used also for backup for Kaskpeit on the left side of the field.

Josh Wright MC 12 - 7.42

Brought in to give some depth to the midfield after Crowell was sold. Did a excellent start to his Hampton career and I hope it continues.

Scott McGrory ST 12 9 7.92

Was signed after my scout found him in Febuary 2009. The scottish lad was given his fair amount of games after he joined and he showed what a good player he is and can be. Scored 9 goals in his 12 outings and had the best game/goal rate of all the contracted Hampton players. Keep up the good work!

Hot like a Furness!

Steve Gold´s first full season in charge of Barrow the board are over the moon with his management so far as all goals they have set have been easily met! Although predicted a measily mid table finish by the media, Gold has gone onto doing the unpredictable to delight every Barrow fan.

Although never really competing to take the top spot in the league, Barrow where always up there for the vast amount of the season and showing some fantastic football for the fans which helped them gain the runners up spot in the Bluesquare North but also a valuable play off spot, which was easily achieved.

Play Offs

In the BSN Play offs we would face Burscough, a team that we have enjoyed victory against but have also endured defeat, so this was going to be a battle either way and a game which, if we would win, would certainly put myself as a favourite towards winning the final against either Leigh or Worksop.

The first leg would be played in Burscough, the advantage coming that we would play the 2nd leg at home where we have been very strong this season. I was hoping we would go away from the game at Burscough without defeat, having lost to them previously in Burscough during the normal season I wasnt 100% filled with confience, especially our last 8 games or so since Marshall got injured have been a bit up and down.

Well things didnt start off well as Burscough took the lead early on but we never gave up and by the time the full time whistle came, we had managed to equalise through on loan striker Dexter Ravenhill who has stepped well into the boots off Marshall.

The other game between Leigh and Worksop ended also 1-1 so it was all to play for between all four teams in the 2nd leg of the Play Offs.

It was time for us to put Burscough in their place in the 2nd leg of the Play Off and take ourself to the final, we once again went down one nil early on despite having started far more brightly than we did at Burscough. But then the lads turned it around and it started to become the Ravenhill show! The on loan striker put Burscough in their place bagging a fantastic hattrick in a 4-1 win over Burscough and sending us through to the final! We would meet Leigh there as they won via an own goal from Worksop!

Play Off Final

Barrow take on Leigh and the game was mainly one way traffic, Barrow heading to the BSP! Although we suffered the ability of not being able to score, which has happened a lot since Marshall got injured, we finally got a penalty in added time of the first half! Carrington stepped up to make it......and he and the rest of the squad have not scored a penalty all season.....GOAL! Carrington must love the big stage as he smashes it in the back of the net. In the second half things continued like the first, we just couldnt score for toffee but once more PENALTY! Unbelievable, two pens in one game, Carrington stepped up again and GOAL! Two goals from two pens, I thought xmas had come early! We then added a third to make sure Leigh had to chance of coming back and to celebrate victory and promotion.

The full time whistle was blown and delight as Leigh never looked in with a shout and we would finally move up into the BSP! Something all Barrow fans never thought would be possible so quickly under new management!

Summary

A fantastic first full season in charge and from the end of last season there were so many positives taken on and built on for this one, we managed to loan a lot of great players from Crewe which massively helped us with our quest at getting where we got to at the end of the season, we also enjoyed some good cup runs in which we achieved better results than our board has hoped for.

Delighted at reaching the FA Cup 1st round despite going out, the financial reward was massive for the club. In the Sentanta Shield and FA Trophy we also made good strides by making the 5th round and 3rd respectively.

What really pleased me and was very chuffed with is that it was a team effort, every player in the team scored goals, if it was from set pieces or penaties or even open play, they got the goals, even our goal keeper almost scored one!

The Players

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

Name Position Apps Gls Rat

fon Williams GK 58 - 7.09 - Came in on a free and played every game this season, top class.

Danville D R 52 2 7.27 - Bags of pace and showed it, even chipped in with a couple!

Blackwood WB/AM L 34 1 7.03 - Covered the left sided brilliantly if at left back or left midfield.

Swailes D C 48 4 7.17 - His experience showed and even knocked in some great goals.

Carrington M RC 53 10 7.34 - Superb! Commanded the midfield brilliantly.

Marshall ST 33 27 7.73 - What can I say, he came in on loan from Crewe and we missed him big time once he got injured on the tail end of the season

Murphy M RC 46 9 7.02 - Bags of pace on the lad and scored some great goals

Barrau AM L 36 3 7.64 - Came in to cover for Rhodes and replaced him well

Webb ST 57 39 7.44 - Wonderkid! I was unsure to begin with but once he got his first goal he couldnt stop scoring!

Wright AM R 51 9 7.53 - Fans love him, helped setup lots of goals this season

Brown D C 51 5 7.16 - Another fan favourite, the Captain of the squad and scored 5!

Ravenhill ST 37 22 7.11 - Got quite a few games in the end, mainly always as sub but replaced Marshall due to injury and bagged a few hattricks

Waterhouse D/AM L 34 2 6.94 - Big things promised and he always showed a good display.

Salmon DM 36 6 6.81 - Rejected Telford and showed he can strutt the stuff!

Rhodes AMLC,FC 21 4 7.43 - Some great performances from the left winger which ended up with offers coming in, he got unhappy so he went to Stafford for 30k.

</pre>

So some great displays from our squad and all round effort, we look forward for what the summer brings and the new season in the BSP!

We're Going Down! icon_frown.gif

Well in a season which had promised so much we find ourselves back in the BSS after some woeful play in the BSP.

Manager Simon Lynn signed 100s of players with his extended wage budget, only to find that about 98% of players signed would be lucky to manage to make it to the post office to collect thier pension. Twas not good and the expierience gave way to better players and Newport suffered as a result of this.

This season we will work on building a team capable of putting up a fight in the BSP as the last squad was not, we will move on and hopefully upward.

With a slightly younger squad this season and a few older big names we should establish ourselves well in the league and can look to building on that for next season. Also we are looking into the possiblity of a new parent club to add to the strengh that Bristol Rovers give us as we make full use of the parent/feeder agreement.

To the BSP and beyond!!

Season 09/10 Blue Square Premier

This is the highest position the club ever found its self and to think we could be only 46 games away from league football something that wasn't even on the clubs agenda two seasons ago when Orr took over.

Jack Pearson and Bobby Hopkinson both joined the club on free, Pearson of course spent last season on-loan from Forest; these two are the only players to join on a permanent basis.

Matt Hartmann, Adam Newbold and David Brown have been loaned back to us for another season from Forest with Elliott Bennett also returning from Wolves, these four have agreed to spend the whole season with us.

Rich Teesdale joins on a 3month deal from AFC Telford alongside Mikaelsson-Villa, Totti-Kettering and Power-Forest who all spent last season at Marston.

a number of youth and fringe players(21 in total) have been loaned out to Barwell.

With odds of 33/1 to win the league we're seen by many as long shots, more than likely we'll be looking to avoid the drop.

With ourselves alongside the following pub teams Barrow, Braintree, Droylsden, Weymouth and Hampton & Richmond Boro we are the main culprits to be relegated.

Hot like a Furness

The season is over and the summer begins, the players go on holiday and some find out that they dont belong to the club anymore on their return! It has been a busy summer at Barrow, although Ive tried not to make too many new aquisitions I felt some were definately needed.

The main goal was to get rid of some high paid players who did not feature at all in the clubs plans for the future, of course this was also needed in aid to bring in new faces that of course would feature in our new goal for the new season in the BSP.

The board have said that avoiding relegation is what we should try but have kindly reminded me that the clubs long term plan is to be an established club in the Blue Square North, a target that will hopefully be achieved easily by us staying in the BSP and avoiding relegation.

So we have had a new movers and shakers but so far we are still trying to bring in a few loan signings to bolster the squad a little as most teams in this league have got major coups in getting quality loans in and if we are lucky we can do the same.

Parent/Feeder Clubs

After two years being in association with Crewe, it has been decided to cancel the link and cut our ties with the club. Crewe has served us well, especially last season with some fantastic loans in Marshall, Ravenhill, Carrington and Fowler but this season most of these players went into their first team and could not be loans. The players that have remained in their reserves are not upto the standard where I feel they would make a difference to the team.

We have however got a new feeder club link, we have managed to snap up Maidenhead as our new feeder, they were relegated from the BSS after a terrible season but I will be more than happy to send some of my reserves and youth players to them as hopefully they will be back in the BSS soon and that would be fantastic for them players who go on loan.

Other News - Pre-Season

For a second year running Hinckley manager Davie Orr invited us to the Hinckley Cup. As the defending Champions of this wonderful cup meant that we just had to take part again this season to see if we could retain the cup.

A steady performance meant that Barrow, again, are THE CHAMPIONS! A penalty shoot out against Hinckley sent the hosts off to a poor start, Barrow then went on with victory over both Telford and Gainsborough to once again lift the Hinckley cup.

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

Pos | Inf | Team | | Pld | Won | Pen | Lst | For | Ag | G.D. | Pts |

So a pre-season cup victory and hopefully things will continue like this throughout the league campaign, that is, pub teams like Hinckley bottom of the league! But that probably wont happen, we arnt favoured by the media with a media prediction to be relegated, so hopefully that is one thing we can avoid, a hard season is ahead!

Its my idea that I will build Merthyr Tydfil into a bastion of invincibility, had Napoleon had that idea he'd have conquered the bloody world.

My idea is to build Merthyr Tydfil up and up and up until eventually they would be untouchable. Everybody would have to submit. Give in.

Were the opening words of Merthyr Tydfil manager Christopher L. Powlay in todays press conference. Powlay, a reformed alcoholic has been in charge of Merthyr for just one season since they gained promotion to the Conference South, and what a flying first season that was. Finishing 4th overall and losing in the play offs.

The strength of Merthyr is their front line, but when Powlay gained control of the club he realised a whole new squad would need assembling. Nathan Wolfe and former Middlesbrough youth Stephen Thompson have formed a deadly front line but with the addition of Stevie Ferguson and Magno Vieira Powlay now has strength in depth.

This season Powlay has continued his rebuilding, mainly with staff as his whole back room team left the club under dispute over non payment of bonuses from the chairman. On the playing field Powlay has brought in experienced midfielders Stefan Oaks and Iain Anderson. Ex Arsenal player Matthew Wicks has also joined to bring strength at the back but Powlay is still on the look out for another central defender after being forced to play 17 year old Ryan Pickering. "Pickering is still only very young, but he has played like a seasoned player, im just worried that he will suffer from burnout if he continues to play every match." Powlay Commented.

Former Middlesbrough players Lewis McArdle and David Hillerby. The latter scored on his full debut.

Expectations have been heightened after a string of good results leading Tydfil into the top 5 but recent results havent gone Merthyrs way. "There will always be ups and downs, we have suffered our down and now we will be picking things up. Its a long hard season and things can change quickly. Look at Newport, they dropped down from the Premier after a massive up season and have been humped by everyone. Im sure they will come out of their downward spiral when their boss returns from his...i mean her, sex change operation." quirped Powlay.

Here at www.thenon-leaguepaper.com we take a weekly look at one of the countries non league sides and today its the turn of up and coming team Braintree Town.

Braintre, who the **** are they i hear you ask. Well Braintree Town is a club situated in essex that was formed way back in 1898 but despite their age they have never been a successfull club and have never played in the football league.

In the last few years things have been getting better as for the first time Braintree were poromoted to the Conference South for the 2006-2007 season and they nearly made it a back to back promotion but they narrowly lost out to Salisbury City 1-0 in the playoff final. As a result of this loss Braintree sacked there manager not because of the defeat but because of the drunken brawl in which George Borg got into with the tea lady.

A few weeks later Braintree made the suprise decision to appoint some unknown manager called Tim Prescott.

Prescott in his first press conference as manager confidently stated that he believed he would take the club into the Conference national within 2 seasons.

It looked as if he could of been right as in his first season he guided the club back into the playoffs with a finishing position of 4th and for the second season in a row they would be in the playoff final where they would Newport County.

Newport were the strong favourites for the game and they confirmed that as they took the league and were looking good but things started to turn against them as Braintree found and equaliser and they also went down to 10 men but despite these they held out through the remaining few minutes of normal time plus all of extra time taking the game to penalties.

In what was a cruel way for Braintrees season to be ended the lost the shoot out and the playoff final for the second season in a row. Mnay believe that if the Newport manager actually turned up for the game then the game would of been much different.

Braintree started their second season under Prescott in impressive fashion as they only lost once in the fisrt half of the season and this took them to the top of the league. The second half wasnt as good as a long term injury to Star Player Roscoe D'sane threaten to ruin Braintree's chances and they slipped to 2nd in the table. Despite this The Iron kept battling away but they were unable to overtake Hampton and finished second three points behind the leaders with 102 points a total that would of won the North and just showing how unlucky they were.

So for the third season in a row it was the dreaded playoffs again where this time they would get the chance to get revenge over Salisbury in the semi final.

The first leg at Salisbury was a time game which ended 1-1 leaving the tie balanced going into the 2nd leg.

The 2nd leg at the Cressing road stadium was a thriling match in which Braintree came out 5-4 aggregate winners thanks to a last minute Grant Basey penalty which he scored on the rebound and this would setup a meeting with Tiverton in the final.

Braintree finals werent too confidnet going into the game as they had bad memorys of the previus 2 seasons finals.

The game was very tight and edgy with not amny clear cut chances so the sides went in at half time level.

The second half didnt really come into life until the final 10 minutes when Braintree toom the lead through a Danny Reet goal. But the Braintree fans knew it wold be too good to come true and it was as Tiverton equalised in the 89th minute and looked to send the game into extra time.

But Braintree never gave up and in the 95th and final minute of time captain Michael Raynes sent a towering header passed the despairing Tiverton keeper to send Braintree into the Blue Square Premier for the first ever time.

It looks like it will be a tough first season at BSP level for the Iron as they are predicted to come 22nd and head straight back down but Braintree fans are confident with their new manager that anything can happen and probably will.

Season 2009-2010 so far... 15.12.2009

After we got promotion from BSS, a tough BSP season was expected. Naturally both Ephraim and Bozaglo refused to come back on loan this year and concentrated on getting to West Hams first team plans. Mid 09-10 season Bozaglo is considered as part of WH first team while Ephraim still struggles in reserves. Good luck to them both! Now back to Ham n Rich...

Media prediction: 24th... sounds about right... at least got me running round the transfer market as crazy, looking for good players. And I must admit, the poor financial situation of the club (which I might have some blame in) did not give me any big selection of players to choose from. The start of preseason bank balance was around -200k and transfer budget nil. Transfer revenue got from any player sale was set on 15%. This was the starting point, so here is what was done during preseason.

TRANSFERS IN

Marcin Kocur - 25yo AMC/FC - 1.7

Spotted him while was on a scouting trip to Poland in beg of 2009. Had not seen much of him, but as he did seem to have decent stats in the past and his contract was running out, I offered him contract. And he accepted. Well, that was a mistake. He actually was not as good as I expected and even though my scouts told me, that he is one of the better attackers in the team, he did not impress me. I gave him few chances, but he did not take them. Transfer listed him and offered around for free and Dorchester seemed interested, offered him contract, he accepted and is now on the way there on 1.1.2010. So a nice half a year in Hampton for him.

Jack Collison - 20yo MC - 15.8

For free. Has some potential but has not had many games yet. But his will to work hard and aggressive nature is for sure what is needed in the team, if we want to survive.

Ben Hunt - 19yo DC - 15.08

For free. Due to having enough DC currently, was sent to my feeder Met Police, where he has had decent season so far (avg 7.40 from 10 games, 2 assists). Someone for the future. His main strenght is pace and acceleration.

Dan Spence - 20yo DR - 16.8

Signed for free. Pacey and aggressive rightback. Already in my first team plans as a rotation/backup player.

Elijah Reid - 20yo DR - 18.8

Another young rightback, signed for free, who is concentrated, determined hard working team player and also showing some good physical potential. His weakness is in the technical side, but hopefully he will improve. Currently sent to my another feeder, Cheshunt, where he has been performing quite good. 11 games, avg 7.0, 2 goals and 2 assists.

Joe Roberts - 20yo MC - 21.8

For free. Similar player to Ben Hunt. Hard working, determined, aggressive. And also on loan to Met Police. Not as impressive there though, only avg 6.38 from 7 games.

Alex Skidmore - 20yo DC - 21.8

Gues... FOR FREE! He was selected mainly because of his pace. In order to neutralize the opposition pacey attackers you need to match them! Out of 28 games, he has been involved in 22, avg 7.06, 2 MOMs. Good work!

Niall McArdle - 19yo MC - 23.8

Lets agree that I will specify only in case I did not get somebody for free, okey? Another young MC sent on loan to Met Police, avg 7.52 9 games, 5 assists.

Jamie Wright - 20yo ST - 5.9

Was signed as a backup/rotation striker due to having only 3 decent (2 decent, 1 half decent) strikers. Now I have 2 decent and 2 half decent strikers (and actually Jamie is the worst of the half decents!:S). 18 games, 1 goal, 4 assists, avg 6.89

Vladimir Weiss - 20yo AMC - 10.9

Former Man City youngster, who was released by the club. Nationality is english/slovak. Has become good player for us, playing in 18 games so far, scoring 4, 1 assist, avg 7.14.

Will Atkinson - 19yo AMLRC - 17.9

Was picked up mainly to fill the empty position for my winger/amc backup/rotation player. He is lacking currently a bit on technical aspects of his game, but he has the pace required to do well on the wings . Also his will to work quite hard and determination will hopefully make him a better player in the future. Has made only limited appearances, 4 in total, avg 6.75.

LOANS IN

Josh Wright - MC - From WH - End of season

James Tomkins - DC - From WH - End of season

Aswad Thomas - DCL - From Charlton - End of season (Loan Terminated)

Tony Stokes - AMC - From WH - End of season

Jamel Forde-Small - AML - From Reading - 3 months (Loan ended)

TRANSFERS OUT

Total 24 players have been released so far. Another 3 have been sold with total income of 350k. One of the players was my key wingers from last year, Marcus Kelly, sold for 250k to Stirling.

Due to player sales, I have now total of 50k in transfer budget and balance way into positive!

CURRENT BEST 11

GK Amarasingham 28G 16CS 6.89 - The backbone of my defense... and team. Hope he keeps fit and enjoys hes game.

DL Spender 28G 7.07 - My best wingback, can play on both sides

DC Tomkins 23G 7.11 - Very good loan player. First choice. Makes lot of good interceptions and tackles.

DC Skidmore 22G 7.05 - His main strenght is pace. And he uses it well.

DR Spence 23G 6.96 - Got his chance due to injury to our captain, Fuller. Will give Fuller a chance now after he has fully recovered.

ML Kaskpeit 23G 7.43 - This guy just keeps getting better. Effective both on assists and scoring.

MC Stokes 27G 7.00 - Loaned due to lack of good midfielders. Plays effectivly enough as MC/DMC. But has some competion for the place.

MC Weiss 18G 7.11 - This postion is for either Stokes or Weiss. But as Stokes is MC/DMC, Weiss is the man. Doing good job!

MR Walley 27G 7.30 - Second best winger after Kaskpeit.

ST McGrory 21G 7.48 - After signing end of last season, seems to cope with higher level well. Best striker in the team!

ST Hodges 17G 6.71 - Has been with us from beginning, team vice captain. Mainly helping McGrory to score.

Hot like a Furness

Well its been an eventful start for team from Barrow with some astonishing results which no one really expected from a newly promoted team out of the BSN.

The media had predicted the side to go back down immediately but so far in the first half of the season Barrow are doing what most thought they wouldn´t. Havnt got in a new keeper on loan from Blackburn things got rolling away in the league with Stevenage, Rochdale and Rushden being our opening games, I certainly wasnt looking forward to that run!

The Cups

FA Cup

But first our cup progress before the league details, we managed once more to get to the first round of the FA Cup like last season, obviously we didnt have to go through all the stupid qualifiers apart from one, in which we faced Cammel Laird away, the game ended a 1-1 draw and meant a return leg at home, one which the team would certainly not take lightly and they showed that with a 4-0 win over their opponents.

We then moved to the first round of the FA Cup but that was the end of the glorious FA Cup road for us this year as we faced Leeds at Elland Road, but we fought bravely and lost only 1-0 to them. But we made a huge financial gain so I am happy with some aspect of this game.

FA Trophy

So far only one game for us in this cup and it was against Billericay, a steady performance from the Barrow lads which meant a 1-0 win and progression through to the next round.

The League

Now to the important thing this season, Barrow´s fight against relegation and so far its going rather well despite the fixture list that we started on and of course the much high calibre opponents in the BSP.

Our first game was away to Stevenage, not an easy game against an established BSP side but we walked away with a point and I was glad to have at least our first one as quick as the first game, game ended 2-2.

We then faced title favourites Rochdale at home and another massive test for the club, one we withstood and another point on the board as we drew once more, 2-2 again.

We were on the road once more to face Rushden, this time telling our defenders they dont have to concede any goals and they kept to my word as we get our first win in the BSP! 2-0 Victory.

We were by now becoming specialists though at drawing games, we faced Macclesfield next and no one could have guessed, but we drew, only 1-1 this time though.

Then we travelled to Crawley, with us unbeaten in 4 games they brought us back down to earth beating us 4-2 infront of their own fans, something that will have to be payed back in the return game.

Next up where Rob´s Telford, sitting in 2nd place at the time we I didnt really fancy my chances, especially as Telford were within the pack of teams that are favourite to go up, but to our suprise, we absolutely thrashed them with a staggering 4-1 victory.

Transfer Info

We have aquired a new striker to the club, long time target and former Crewe forward Farqurharson has finally terminated his contract with Raith Rovers in the Scottish Division 2 and decided to join Barrow in the BSP.

Back to the League!

We travelled to Halifax who are predicated to come top half in the table, well top half of my goal scoring record more like as we thrashed them 5-0 with Farqurharson coming off the subs bench to score a goal himself along side Ashkem who also scored on his debut off the subs bench.

Well we were flying now and next up was Weymouth, despite dominating all game we just couldnt score, so as it worked last time, we brought Farqui off the bench and he rewarded us with a beautiful hattrick. Keeps this up he will become the fans favourite!

Next up a trip to Ebbsfleet, nothing much happened just another bore draw at 1-1.

Burton came up for a visit to Barrow and were sent with their bags packing as a 2-0 victory kept the points with us.

Another tough game, play off contenders Kidderminster were up next and drew, always something new! A 0-0 draw here.

Everyones favourite team this season, Droylsden the bashing boys of the league this season and we showed them what we are made of with a 5-1 win infront of their own fans, we could play them every week!

When we score goals it seems they follow for the game after and Cambridge felt the force as we thrashed them an all with a 4-1 win.

Ok ok, alot of tough teams in this league and we faced Oxford next, a team not a lot of other human controlled teams had luck against and we managed to get a point from them as we drew 2-2.

Grays came to us next and it was another draw, 1-1.

Next up where Dorchester, a team that also is not enjoying a lot of luck this season and we managed to bag all three points in this vital clash too.

Woking up next, I know I didnt want to lose games at my Home ground but i wanted to win some, another draw! 1-1 again!

We now faced our next human controlled team for this season, we travelled to Braintree and walked away with a point, again, if I can get at least a point in away games then I am more than happy!

Next up was then Tavvs table topping Hams and it looked like this game could have and should have gone our way but it remained goalless.

Torquay were to follow and another bore draw, so thats three in a row! Impressive stuff I know!

Andy´s Kettering travelled to Barrow next and again, a title favourite this season after they enjoyed a successful first season in the BSP. We showed them what we are made off and beat them 2-0.

We then travelled to Hinckley, that reminds me of my very first game in charge of Barrow, well thankfully we didnt lose! Again, another draw, we certainly have mastered drawing in this league!

Season Part 2

With that game gone it meant we had finished the first round of games for the season and this time Stevenage travelled to us this time, what a game, we showed them what we wanted to do the first time round and thrashed our visitors 5-2 with Farqui getting another hattrick!

Next up we travelled to Rochdale and once more nothing could split the teams as we face another bore draw 0-0.

Summary

So a succesful start to our first season in the BSP so far, we have drawn 13 games, which is quite a lot, hopefully we can turn some of our future games into win in the 2nd half of the season, we are currently just 3 points off the play offs, so meeting our goal of avoiding relegation is currently going well and if we can continue our good form then we could even sneak a play off place.

What has really shocked me is that so far this season, and of course hopefully something that will stay that way is, that we have only tasted defeat once so far this season. Im sure a couple more will come but to have only lost once is quite an achvievement.

Financially after our FAC run and facing Leeds I am absolutely delighted that things really seem to be going our way, having been over 300k in the red, we managed a considerable win with the Cup game and our attendance to our home game has risen from the start of the from roughly 1300 to a massive 2000, which is quite an increase for a newly promoted club like us!

Other News!

Well delightful news for all Barrow fans, me, Manager Steve Gold has now broke the 100 games in charge barrier! A very good milestone to meet and im glad I am still in the job at Barrow.

Hopefully I can continue and work towards 200 games in charge!

Thats all for now from the furness!

BSP SEASON 09/10 IN SHORT

It has been a dream of a season! Team was fighting for first place all season. And we finished the season 1st!

It is a total opposite, of what was expected from us. Preseason odds showed us finishing 24th. That shows how much they know...

Next season in CC League 2 will surely be the toughest for me of the seasons so far. We have players, who are able to play in league 2 (and above) but the question is in depth of the squad. Is a key player gets injured, do I have a replacement for him? This is what I have to think about during the preseason.

The Best XI of 09/10 is more or less the same than the year before.

Name Position Apps Gls Rat

Aleksander Amarasingham GK 51 - 6.90

Gem of the team. Let in 0.7 goals per game, had ~20CS. Missed only 4 game of the season (gave the backup keeper also some games). Fist choice for next season!

Barry Fuller DR 41 - 6.85

Even though I had some doubts about him end of last season, he managed to play out his position. Was offered 200k for him in January transfer window, but rejected the offer. Will sell him for sure, if he does not prove himself during preseason. Will probably start looking for backup with future potential for this position.

Simon Spender DL 44 2 7.07

Was solid the whole season. Should be able to handle the level of League 2. So my first choice fullback for 10/11. Backup available!

James Tomkins DC 42 5 7.19

Loan signing, another excellent season, hopefully will return next year. If not, will look for replacement. Currently only Skidmore has the required attributes to play center of my defense. Will of course trial our reserve centerbacks during preseason and see, if any of them have improved enough to play in my first team. If not, some good loanee/signee is on the way for sure!

Alex Skidmore DC 44 - 7.02

Good signing from last year, has improved enough to become one of the key defenders. Surely able to hold his position also next year. The latest situation with backups was not good.

Tony Stokes AMC/MC/DMC 48 5 7.08

Loan signing, another excellent season. Was playing in the center of the field, both attacking and defensive positions and managed to pull off both. Will try to bring him back also next season. Backup available, in case he will refuse to come back.

Vladimir Weiss MC/AMC 33 7 7.06

Our main attacking midfielder of the season. Was injured part of the season but was ever present when fitness allowed. Besides Stokes, no real competition from any of the local players. Again, lot of testing in preseason to see, if any of the reserves is able to play backup or will need to do some search on the transfer market.

Shaun Whalley AMR 49 8 7.31

Ever present for the team, if fitness allowed. First choice for next season. Decent backup should be available, Atkinson. But again, we will see in preseason, if need be for stroger backup or not.

Kaarel Kaskpeit AML 48 7 7.46

Same case, as Whalley. With his ability to get past his man and good vision and passing ability, was the teams best assister.

Scott McGrory ST 48 31 7.38

When he was signed, he was just another player showing some decent ability but had really no idea that he will become our star player so quickly! He did show what he can do end of season 08/09 (9 goals in 12 games) and continued where he left off in 09/10. Hope he will continue his scoring next season.

Matthew Ogden ST 32 13 7.03

Another youngster who proved himself to be good enough for BSP, but does hi have what it takes for league football? We will wait and see.

Marko Malacic GK 4 - 7.25

Young backup for Amarasingham. Really no shout for any regular first team action for him. But he has been a good sport and has not really complained much. Will get his reserves and cup games next season in case no unfortunate injuries will occur. Will actually have to look for a 3rd decent GK (U18), as 2 GK is not enough.

Sergei Kase MC/DMC 46 4 6.76

He is the main player for the MC/DMC position. If Stokes will not return, he will for sure be the man in that position.

Will Atkinson AMRL 16 - 7.00

A backup player for Whalley and Kaskpeit. Has the pace, but not really improving on the technical side fast enough. Now with the technical game becoming more important, will need to get rid of him and find somebody with better technical ability. But I will give him a chance.

Piotr Tomasik DL 9 1 7.56

Backup for Spender. But really stepping up his challenge for first team place.

Jamie Wright ST 28 6 6.96

Has had some problems adapting, but has been slowly and steadily improving his game.

TRANSFER PLANS

With the positive financial situation in the bank, the board will surely give us some transfer money to counter the difficulties laying ahead in CC League 2. We expect approx 20K for new signings from teh board. For sure will also sell some players, so around 30-50K for new players is budgeted.

GK - shopping list will include 1 x GK (U18) - need 3rd GK

DLRC - shopping list will include 1 x DR and 1 x DC - replace Fuller and replace Tomkins

MLRC - shopping list will include 1 x MC/AMC and 1 x MC/DMC - replace Stokes and get backup

ST - no special plans

NB! The transfer plans might change depending on the preseason and start of the league season. But the above is a MUST!

Hinckley started the season in good form with a 3-0 home win over Cambridge Utd, gave us some expectations of the up and coming season, but sadly that game was a false dawn, with 4-0 trashing from Oxford and 3-1 defeat by Grays in the next two games, laid rest to those dreams

By Christmas the club was hovering around the drop and out of the FA cup after a 7-2 hammering by Kettering.

In mid-Feb. we met Chester City in Q/F of the Setanta Shield which was shown on TV, which was prob the reason only 181 fans turned up. but a another heavy 5-1 defeat saw us exit the cup, and the shame of the TV horror helped to kick-start our season, the next league match was against Chester this time at there park where we won 3-2 and that was the start of a 9 game unbeaten run which saw us climb the table only a defeat by Ebbsfleet split our last 3 games where we picked up another three wins.

After nearly 4 years and 206 games Braintree Town manger Tim Prescott was finally chased out of the club by an angry mob of fans who wanted to burn him alive.

Prescott guided The Iron up to the Blue Square national for the first time in there history but when the job of home town club Hereford Unoted he couldnt help himself and he had to apply.

This didnt go down to well with the fans as they said they hoped Prescott would leave and Prescott didnt make things easier for himself by openly critising the clubs fans and this was to be the last straw for the Braintree board as they gave their manager and ultimatum which he gladly accepted.

Dino Maamria, Prescotts wannabee bum boy followed him out of the club and left hism position as coach to prove what a loyal servant he was to the ex manager.

As he has been linked to nearly all of the L2 clubs in the past season there will surely be a que of clubs looking for his signature and 2 clubs have been rumoured to have offered him a deal already, ao where will he end up?

10/11 review

"After a slow start of losing to Barrow, we found our way equaling the clubs record of games unbeaten (11 games) and looked good enough at least to take play off spot, then we met Potters Bar in the Setanta Shield, and from there on in our season was a total f**k up" Davie Orr (view on the clubs 2nd season in the Bluesquare premier)

Scoring not an issue, but our defending is.

In whole where very suspect at the back, always leaving gaps, backing off and failing to pick up the runners.

At the moment where on the look out for a defending coach to try and help tighten up the back-line. But no doubt the board will devoted any deal that’s struck.

Am hoping the squad more settled this season after such a huge personal change, so far the only players we know of that’s joining are Markus Gustavsson from Hampton and Richmond, Totti(Kettering) finally becomes a Hinckley player after spending 4 seasons off and on here on loan.

As for loans Newbold returns for his 5th season and aims to smash the 100 goal barrier for Hinckley, Alan Powers has agreed to re-join us again on loan for his 4th spell at the club. Tony Diagne a young centre back joins from Forest on years deal.

This is what the new manager had to say about his new job:

" I am absolutely delighted at becoming the new maanger of such a wonderful club as i have always loved this club and have been a lifelong fan so it is a dream come true for me but im not completely happy as i am saddened to see the club back in non league football and my aim will be to get us promoted as quickly as possibe.

Asked about his first match in charge which will be against former club Braintree this is what he had to say:

" The way the fans treated me despite what i did for the club wasnt nice to say the least so i cant wait until they come to Edgar Street so we can destroy the ***** and hopefully set them on there way to relegation".

As a result of relegation a few of the clubs better players decided that their future should be with another club so the new manager would really need strenghtening and he has just done that by making about 9 signings with the loan signings of Gilles Sunu and Nathan Eccleston looking the best along with the permanent signing of England u19 international somebody walker.

The Hereford United boards aims for the club this season is a top half position that wont be good enough for the new manager as he wont settle for failure at a club he loves so much.

Seperate Ways

Steve Gold resigned as manager of Barrow after the 1st game of the season.

What came to a shock to both the clubs players and fans and certainly very unexpected to fellow managers in the BSP too.

Gold stated "There have been some good foundations that have been built at Barrow, however, I do not feel I can dedicate enough time to managing the club as it is required, ive taken them as far as it was possible with the resources available to me"

Gold continued "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Barrow and I hope the fans have enjoyed having me as their manager, we have had some very good cup runs and also got promotion to the Blue Square Premierleague, I wish the club and the next manager a lot of luck"

Barrow fans were said to be upset to see Gold leave after a great spell in charge of the club and hope he would some day possibly return to take them to even greater things.

New Jobs!

Nope! Gold hasnt got a new management job but has been seen at various grounds around the country and europe, but why so?

Well all was revealed by Gold after a quick interview with the former Barrow manager.

Gold "I was invited by Paul Phillips to Gainsborough to watch a view games and obviously like these things develop"

Gold continued "Paul has been doing a great job with the holy ones and I agreed to scout for some players for him, obviously he is not going to sign everyone I recommend but I hope he will take a good look and hopefully Trinity will end up with a few more good players to join the current squad and help in their quest"

The Future

Gold is determined to stay in management but was unable to comment with which club his future may be with but confirmed he has had and also made some enquiries and he could be back in the new season!

However, Gold has revealed he is active in the game by revealing he is helping out good friend Rob Knott by going on some scouting missions for the AFC Telford manager.

Stay tuned!

Gainsborough's prayers have been answered, after the disapointment of play off losses and mid table obscurity, after 5 seasons in charge Paul "the Holy One" Phillips has led his team out of the North.

Finishing the season on 88 points and with a goal difference of +46 Gainsborough showed that they had learnt from previous seasons and kept early momentum up to win the league and gain automatic promotion.

Player of the season was of course the Bulgarian adoringly nicknamed The Tosh by the Trinity fans.

After adjusting to English life and more importantly English breakfasts The Tosh scored at will in the North and looks well able to continue this rich vein of form in the demanding National League.

Manager Phillips will now be looking to secure the team National league status and bring in new faces.

Wether these targets can be tempted to join the Holy Crusade at Gainsborough only the start of the new season can reveal.

The Bucks Continue To Get Stronger!

Afc Telford Look forward to a New Season In the Confrence National Under Manager 'Robert Knott'. Last Season saw the Bucks Finish '8th for the consecutive season running and they are now firmly established according to william hill.co.uk. The Online Bookies States that a real push for promotion is on the cards this season but only if Knott Can add to his squad.

Links Established Again

Afc Telford Chairman is pleased to announce that the club have be assigned with Parent club 'Wolves' on the condition that wolves reserves can play at the 'New Bucks Head' This is great news for Afc Telford because this agreement years before has seen alot of great players strutt there stuff in the Bucks Shirt.

Gaffers Words....

Good Afternoon ladies and Gentleman! this season is a slightly diffrent approach , i am looking for a smaller and more settled team , with only a select few leaving after their contracts have expired. I am only lookin to bring in 3 Players on long -term deals , and a couple of loans of wolves when needed. I feel with the 19 players i have turning up for pre season we have a great bunch of lads. All of a young age and also on long term deal. Its only a matter of time before this squad grows together and enters league football.

I wish you all good health and hope to see you for the first friendly.....

R.Knott

Finance

Richard Kemp the clubs financial Manager speaks..' the clubs current balance is very healthy and sat at 1.5 million , this is largly down to tight control of wages and expenditure but also down to the fact that we have one of the biggest stadium outside of league football and also have a great fan base. Manager Robert Knott has chosen his budget to work with and is very happy and the board also feel this is a great ammount for this standard of football. Wages are also very Low for a club of out ambition and Knott will also have a lot of Flexibility in His Budget.

Finding That Golden Player

Due to manager Knott Suffering from Epilesy and just having broken off a 9 year marriage , his time for scouting has become increasingly frustrating so the club have drafted in ' Steve Gold' The former Barrow Manager to help with finding the club some young pridigys. Gold is said to be delighted and also offerd to help manager Knott Orderr a Tai Bride to get over the misery off his wife , seems like an expert at it to me !

Yours Truely

After escaping the drop on the final day with a win over Torquay, Orr was handed a new two year deal, but let’s not be kidded this current Hinckley team are just plain awful. With the board refusing Orr any money to sign anyone.

rumors are stifle that Orr had lined up a deal with a young left back on £45 a week and the board refused to let the deal go thru, due to the fact that the club can't simply afford the extra wage of £45.

Already 12 players have been released with no sign of anyone joining, although young winger Stephen Roberts who spent last season on loan from Forest has came on a bosman along with Tony Howard from Coventry.

Over all the club has now released close on 50 players in the last 3 years with roughly about 14 coming in.

“I feel like am being staved and losing weight “Davie Orr on the current situation regarding the squad size.

Hinckley are now regarding as the hot favorites to go down this season, which won't help the dwindling crowds, in just under one season the crowds at Hinckley fell by 50%, of course another reason why the board won't break the bank.

As for the return of the Hinckley Town hero's, that space has been left open to anyone in the current squad who could fill the boots of Adam Newbold, Alan Power, as Newbold has been drafted into the Forest 1st team in there assault on the Premiership and Power who’s a free agent, can't sign as the board refuse to pay him a wage.

we can only hope and pray that Orr can turn water into wine and the players of Hinckley Town into Manchester Utd clones.

Matlock take the Golden Path

Former Barrow manager Steve Gold was the shock announcement when the Matlock board presented the appointment of their new manager.

There were many speculation on who would take over the reigns at Matlock but none had enough thought Gold would take such an opportunity.

Gold was said to be relishing a new challenge within football in taking over such a small club and said he will aim to help in the development of the club and aim to establish the club within the Blue Square North.

Matlock currently sit one place above the relegation zone and Gold must use all his experience to make sure his side dont get pulled in the bottom three and end in a relegation dog fight, where just about anything could happen!

Shortly after his arrival, Hereford announced a link up with Matlock and would be sending some loanees in Golds direction.

Keep tuned to see how things turn out!

Gold the Key for the Lock!

Well its certainly been all going on down at Matlock since Gold has arrived, everything from goals to players coming in and going out!

Matlock started out in 19th place when Gold took over but things have certainly changed in that department! But first lets see the ins and outs of this small, but fun club.

The backroom staff, well Paul Harper, a magnificant assistant and is signed up till 2017, alongside him is none other than Edgar Davids, hopefully he can teach the lads a thing or two, just wish he could put his boots on and play aswell but he cant.

Transfers In

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

| Congrieve, Callum | AFC Telford | Free | Highly rated CB, desperately needed

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Molyneux, Tom | AFC Telford | Free | A gap fill and better than anything I could see we got!

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Taylor, Ron | AFC Telford | Free | Desperate need for a half decent keeper, snapped him from Telford

| ------------------------------------------------|

| fon Williams, Owain| Free Transfer | Free | Served me fantastically at Barrow, top goal stopper

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Crowe, Kris | Free Transfer | Free | Pacey striker to add some more than needed pace in that dept!

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Kolev, Dilyan | Free Transfer | Free | Former Braintree servant was freed and wanted to join, a bargain for now!

| ------------------------------------------------|

| O'Kane, Eunan | Free Transfer | Free | Was sought after by many clubs, delighted the irish defensive mid joined us

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Moogan, Darren | Nottm Forest | Loan | Extened his loan, looked a decent centre mid.

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Lomski, Patrik | Hereford | Loan | Sent by Tim, one of only two he could send but made a big impact on arrival

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Trendafilov, Deyan | Hereford | Loan | Desperately needed keeper!

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Harris, Liam | Stoke | Loan | Loaned in to help out like all loanees.

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Pointon, Jamie | Stoke | Loan | Same as above, difficult enough to get loans in!

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Harrop, Lewis | Derby | Loan |

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Morris, Rob | Derby | Loan |

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Davidson, Karl | Derby | Loan |

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Griffiths, Oliver | Stoke | Loan |

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Forde, Alex | Derby | Loan |

| ------------------------------------------------|

Transfers Out

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

| Talbot, Charlie | Free Transfer | Free | Looked crap, was crap, was released

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Clark, Joe | Stalybridge | £2K | Some reserve who who´s contract was running out anyway

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Edwards, Joel | Hayes & Yeading | £16K | If your stupid enough to spend that kind of money, take him!

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Pryce, Tom | Farsley | £6K | Every little penny counts and for a crap keeper I happily accept!

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Bradbury, Craig | Welling | £40K | Well, thank you Welling, come again please.

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Henderson, Tom | Worcester | £12K | Going going Gone, 12k, thanks!

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Kelly, Ross | Margate | £1K | Who? Well 1k is still nice for someone worth nothing

| ------------------------------------------------|

| Pennock, Greg | Welling | Free | Took up a lot of wages, happy to see him go as he wasnt getting a new contract

</pre>

With selling them players ive managed to more than double the clubs currently bank balance. Over 70k worths came in by selling these players who were leaving at the end of the season for nothing, so a good piece of business for unwanted reserve players and also helps the wage budget, which at present the club wont increase despite it only being a measly 2k!

The League & Cup Round Up

Gold took over on the 7th of November, just days later the challenge was against 2nd place Leigh in the Setanta Shield, Gold delivered and confirmed his place with the Matlock fans with a 2-1 victory.

Things progress very well indeed for Gold since that victory, however he did lose in the next round of the Setanta Shield to Altrincham. But the main thing for Gold was good progression in the League and he did just that as Matlock went 6 games unbeaten with 3 victories and 3 draws.

We also managed to get to the 3rd round of the FA Trophy too but Dorchester ended up the winning side but it was a glorious run and we got further than expected.

Progress has been very good so far and Matlock fortunes have certainly been changed since Gold´s arrival. With just 4 games to go until the season is complete, to date, Gold has only lost 4 league games making Matlock one of the successful teams in the second round of the season.

All defeats were very close with three of them being just 1-0 and the fourth game ending 2-1. Both in attack and defense Matlock have improved vastly from their poor showing in the first half of the season and its been an amazing turn around to say the least.

The season is coming to a close and Matlock are currently in 8th position, too far away for a late run into the play offs but certainly an improvement on 19th at which they were before Gold came to the rescue.

Matlock are currently on a three game winning streak and also four games unbeaten......four games left, can Matlock keep it up? Keep tuned.
