What about tweaking your tactic? Try to go on global mentality, I'd say last notch of normal, choose a simple 4-4-2 shape and use a high d-line (first notch of push up) plus counter-attack box ticked, keep it simple! coogie
thanks for the reply what is a global mentality?
Canabary
Put Drogba up top alone, give him a hold-up instruction and make sure you set forward runs to mixed. Have an LM and RM to go forward whenever possible. Put Lamps in a AM position, giving him the possibility to shoot from long often and play throughballs often. Put Essien and Mikel down to the DM position, with Mikel runing forward mixed, Essien to Rarely. Play a defense consisting of Cole, Carvalho/Alex, Manchienne and anyone really (Bosingwa is too attacking, might not want him there) Tell them all to keep back at all times. Mentality sliders: Defense: 8 (all of them) DM: 9 DM2 (mikel):10 LM/RM: 12 AM: 13/14 (I prefer 14) ST: 15/16/17 (depends on how good form Drogba is. really.. Give Lamps and Cole a good chunk of creativity. and generally provide "mixed" creativity (almost little) Have your LM man-mark Ronaldo (if he's RM) and have your two centrebacks man-mark the strikers. About halfway into the match they will adjust their tactics to counter yours. Take off Drogba, Push Lamps down to MC, sub Mikel with Balotelli and put him up front. Drogba should be replaced by a quick striker such as Kalou. Have these two strikers swap positions and watch them confuse both Rio and Vida. Make sure you don't put too many players up in attack on set pieces. You might have to adjust the tempo and passing style, but generally lampard, Essien and Mikel should have a shorter passing style than the rest of the team. Helps keep the ball in the team. Addition: I would also advice you to go a slow buildup. Basically attacking these guys with "full power" just ends up getting you countered. Ferguson is a counter-attacking manager. If you play slowly they won't have too many chances to counter you. Almomst forgot. You need to change the mentality of Balotelli to something more smiilar to Drogba when you put him on. whitecube
You should definitely be able to beat them with your team, even with Cech and Terry out. Have you tried the different variations of reo's 4-2-3-1? For Chelsea, you would do better with a solid well-built tactic like that than something more esoteric. coogie
tried it, lost 3-0 seems no matter what i do Scholes, rooney, tevez and ronaldo are all on drugs rooney dribbles round my defense every single game for the goal

ChewyFun
maybe Fergusons pre-match Comments or team-talk are having a huge effect every time? are ManU's players 'fired-up' or anything?

Dirty_ACE
Have you tried using opposition instructions on their players, especially the strikers and wingers? I'm assuming they're using Ronaldo and Nani on the wings and Rooney/Tevez up front? I'd recommend you tight mark all four players always, never close them down, and set to tackle them easy, also show both strikers onto their weaker foot, as for wingers I'd show them onto their naturally preferred feet to keep the from cutting inside too much. Beevster
Hey at least fm09 is consistent You need to tell us more about your game if you really want decent help. Have you won lost or drew any prior to this match ? Do you have to play youngsters for the injured players? Do you have to play newly signed players who havent gelled yet? Do you have any players with low moral fitness ect? Anyone lost confidence in you ? My record vs man utd is pld 19 won 16 drew 2 lost 1 and i play the same tactic everytime, but this will be useless to you as, A your run upto the big game might not be very good, B you have never used this tactic before on your team. Winning vs the big boys is all about the run upto the big games, get this wrong and your peeing in the wind
knap
coogie It was a bit late last night but I did watch a game and I would take a draw and move on to 2nd leg. MU are fired up.
Canabary
sorry, this onehttp://rapidshare.com/files/203429539/james1.fm.zip I'll see what I can do in a few minutes. I'll get back to you afterwards Ok. Right off the Bat I notice that a fair share of your players don't believe in you, and by not believing they don't really give it their all. They play sloppy, unfocused and aren't really in the game at all. It's a shame really..... ManUtd are in an insane vein of form. You can dominate posession, shots on goal, shots, tackling %, passing % etc and they still somehow manage to win. Team Motivation shows that despite managing to get 60% of Chelsea players "fired up" ManUtd will have all their players on "Playing with confidence or fired up". I don't think you can beat them to be honest... Cudducini had 9.0, Essien had 8.2, Drogba had 8.7, Lamps had 7.8, A.Cole had 7.8, Alex had 7.2 etc... Still they managed to completely turn the game around in a matter of seconds. Rooney was nowhere near the ball, neither was tevez. Goals came from either Ronaldo or Scholes. And no matter what you do you can't seem to keep them under wraps. Only advice I can really give you is to make sure Ronaldo sees as little of the ball as possible. that will seriously limit their threat. Have A.Cole mark him. Do not play J. Cole, he's playing absolutely crappy, shouldn't even be allowed on the bench IMO.... Drogba is half decent but mostly useless as he doesn't trust you. Carvalho is the same, go with Alex and someone else instead in the back, and let Anelka have a go up top with Balotelli or something. Paulo Ferirra was the only right back that acctually manged to do a fairly good job for me, so you might want to use him. I've been watching Anelka, Drogba, Balotelli and more just miss absolute sitters, meanwhile Hargeaves and scholes are scoring like no tomorrow from way way outside the box. I don't really think this is a match you can win.
Beevster
"Ok. Right off the Bat I notice that a fair share of your players don't believe in you" once this happens in a big team you got a hell of a job vs even the weakest of sides you better just hope for a good run and get umm next time
coogie
Thanks so much for the response !! I hope it didn't drive you as crazy as me So you also didn't beat them once?? Mr Hough
put yourself as an internatinal manager cos if your sunday league footballer reputation and take over a big team they will not think your cut out for the job!
Mr Hough
i think your right this could be impossible. i've noticed you are playing in league cup first leg, why don't you just get a draw and talke them back to stamford bridge and hopefully some of your key players will be back you could be playing this for ages finally get the win then lose at the bridge then it'll be all for nothing
coogie
OK i'm going to go on with the draw i think i've learnt a lot though, which is good I'll be impressed if anyone can beat them in this game!

knap
The only time I tend to see this type of motivation is win you win first leg say 3-0 and you get done 4-0 in first 15mins of 2nd leg.

coogie
no it's ok.. ! i've continued on. thanks a lot though. I might come back asking for help on the second leg! what should i do now to get more confidence from my team?
knap
I'm no help on confidence , even forgot half time team talk as I use Ass Man. In FM08 I was trying in press to make AI overconfident and checking their team reaction to press comments, but have not bothered in FM09.
Tejaswi
Mate, if you don't mind me saying, you got the instructions for your defence all screwed up. I gave it a twhirl and could finish with a 1-1 (Lampard missed about 10 glorious chances, surprising what form does to you). But since you're already through with a draw, I don't think you'll need it.
Mr Hough
to get confidence up praise the team during team talks like for the fans and if you win it's a delighted even though it's 1-0 and you've been battered cos at he end of the day a win is a win don't say stuff like i want you to perform like this is every match cos they'll think you want to much from them just think it's common sense really
