All the best Tracy icon14.gif

After not winning a game for 6 matches Leeds had found themselves 4th from bottom of the championship when Rics Plymouth turned up. They had got on the 175 bus to Elland Road because most of the side had free OAP bus passes. Plymouth themselves were having a hard time (Newcastle had beaten them 8-1 recently in the cup)and it was a must win for both sides. Robbie Blake scored 2 early goals for Leeds and Horsfield added a 3rd. Plymouth gave themselves hope by pulling one back just before the break. Blake was replaced by Beckford at half time due to injury. However Horsfield added two more to claim his hat trick and Eddie Lewis scored to make the final score 6-1. The Leeds fans were relieved to get a victory and taunted Ric Thomson with chants of "Youre worse than f***ing Ayr" and "going down". On this form Plymouths ageing side do look as though relegation is likely. Leeds meanwhile must use this victory to turn their season round.

(A) Plymouth v Wolves 0-0 Draw

Away at Plymouth was always going to be a tough game, fellow human manager Ric had purchased a lot of class in the summer albeit old class.

After a tough match a goal less draw was a fair point for each team who were probing the top 6.

(H) Wolves v Leeds 1-1 Draw Bothroyd

Another tough game against an organised side, Polo's Leeds came to Molineux and really came at the Wolves, big Geoff Horsefield causing problems early on with winning most of the high balls until Breen was moved over to mark him. In the 14th minute Davied Healy put the visitors ahead and Leeds pushed on for more, In the 17th minute Bothroyd put the home side back on level terms.

The second half was much of the same with both sides having good chances but nobody managing to break the deadlock.

Assistant takes charge as Bott called away to scout players in Brazil!

Assitant Manager Ian Evans was in charge for the following games.

(H) Wolves v Derby 1-0 Loss

(A) Stoke v Wolves 3-0 Loss

(H) Wolves v Sheff Wed 3-2 Win Wheater, Tahirovic, Bothroyd

(H) Wolves v West Brom 3-1 Win Mulgrew, Vilakazi, Craddock

(A) Leicester v Wolves 1-1 Draw Vilakazi

(A) Ipswich v Wolves 1-1 Draw Bothroyd

Wolves boss returns!

Wolves boss Nick Bott returned to find 4 key members of his side injured, Jemal Johnson who had been in superb form, Loan Signing and influential forward Hameur Bouazza, Creative winger Guilherme and Utility man Karl Henry.

Bott had no choice but to give young prospect Tahirovic a run in the first team.

(A) Luton v Wolves 2-0 Win Tahirovic, Bothroyd

(A) Luton v Wolves 2-0 Win Tahirovic, Bothroyd

A solid performance from the Wolves side saw them secure a 2-0 win at home to Luton, Tahirovic getting a rare start in the place of injured Jemal Johnson netted early on after good work from Davies and Olofinjana in midfield, Davies threaded a lovely through ball in for Tahirovic to run on to and slot home calmly. The second came late in the second half when Bothroyd cracked a thunderous free kick into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

(H) Wolves v Norwich 3-2 Win M Davies, McNamara, Vilakazi

With Wolves and Norwich going into this match in 5tha nd 4th place respectively, this was always going to be a great match.

Wolves took the lead early on through a wonderful shot by Mark Davies from outside the area which curled into ther top right hand corner of the goal. Earnshaw put the visitors back on level terms with Palaces first shot on target, a quick counter attack that Earnshaws pace thrived on. Next saw Jackie Mac put Wolves ahead again with a tap in at the back post after a great Wolves move. Earnshaw again pulled Palace level this time with a poachers goal in the 6 yard box, then Vilakazi treated the Wolves and Palace fans to a masterpiece, recieving the ball from Olofinjana in the Wolves half he proceeded to dribble all the way to the Palace goalkeeper evading the challenge of 4 Palace players and coolly sidefooting the ball in to the back of the net to give Wolves a 3-2 victory!

(H) Wolves v Preston 1-0 Loss

Wolves hosted fellow human manager Adam's Preston at Molineux with only another Wolves win on the mind of the players, this was not to be the case though!

Wolves pushed and probed with a relatively untested 433 formation and saw a vast majority of the possession and had numerous shots both on and off target, when Preston scored a sucker punch by scoring with their only shot on goal in the first half. As much as Wolves huffed and puffed in the second half they could not beat Carlo Nash whoalong with his fellow defenders played exceptionally.

The Wolves manager refused tog ive an interview after the game and went straight to the pub to get a pint and watch the replay of the match, trying to figure out how the hell he lost a match that he dominated from start to finish!

All respect has to go out to Adam and his Preston side for taking the chance he created and nullifying a Wolves team who had managed to score in all but 2 games with Bott in charge.

(A) Cardiff v Wolves 1-0 Win Tahirovic

On the back of an awful performance against Preston the Wolves boys had the words "I want a performance" ringing in their ears as they took the pitch against Cardiff.

In the 32nd minute Wolves were rewarded for their hard work with Olofinjana chipping the ball up for Tahirovic to nod home from close to the penalty spot, Wolves controlled the rest of the first half and went in 1-0 up at half time, the second half was a much different affair with Cardiff coming at Wolves with every opportunity, Wolves however managed to hang on for the win and were lucky to take all 3 points.

(H) Wolves v QPR 4-1 Win Edwards, Tahirovic(pen), Bothroyd 2

Wolves took full advantage of the fact that QPR Manager was unwell and unable to make it to the game. Bott recaled Darren Potter to the starting line up and dropped Mark davies to the bench for a rest.

The first half saw Wolves continue with the 433 formation and put lots of pressure on QPR to be rewarded with an Edwards goal from a good corner by Darren Potter, this was followed with a Tahirovic penalty after Bothroyd was brought down. And on the stroke of half time Bothroyd himself got on the scoresheet with a quality header from a great Rickets cross.

The second half started with QPR much more dominant and they were rewarded early on with a goal from Blackstock. And coninued to pressure Wolves until the 71st minute when Bothroyd finished off a wonderful team move to score Wolves 4th.

Wolves currently sit in 4th position 3points clear of 5th place Preston and 2 points behind 3rd place Stoke, but 8 points off an automatic promotion place.

Leeds had again dropped back towards the relegation zone when Rivals Sheff Wednesday arrived at Elland Road. A must win game saw Leeds win 3-0. Next up was a tough trip to Ipswich managed by DM. Leeds raced into a 3-0 lead and the final score of 5-0 was well deserved. The sheep Sha - I mean Ipswich were well beat.

Marching on Together

....and weve had our ups and downs. Leeds are the inconsistent team of the division at the moment. Results have improved and Leeds are clear of the relegation places. The next few games will be crucial in either putting Leeds in safe mid table or dragged back into the battle for survival. A great 3-0 victory at high flying Preston, a home draw with Cardiff after leading 2-2 and a crushing defeat at QPR.

On an entirely different note here is my QPR update:

Following a rather lack lustre spell in front of goal Dexster Blackstock started to find a rich vein of form. Jones and Downley were playing well on the wings but Price seeing the ageing status of some of his players saw the urgency to bring in some youth.

Young striker Baidoo was sold having only found the net once. He had recently put in some good performances but was not enough to convince Price that he had what it would take.

The January transfer came at just the right time for Price who's top of the mid table position was perfect to strike into the playoff spots.

Augustin Delgado arrived to add experience to the young front line whilst young prodigy Necoid joined.

Jones was sold which came as a shock to many following his displays on the left. However all became clear when Price delivered the transfer coup only matched by Tevez & Mascherano moving to West Ham in January. Jones went out and impressive young columbian AMRC Sherman Cardenas joined in a 3 year deal.

The second half of the season lays in front of a young eager QPR squad. Their destiny in their hands to make the difference and mix it with the big boys of the championship. No one really can say where QPR will finish however Price certainly seems to be building with the future in mind.

Wolves sell young prospect Charlie Muglrew to Plymouth for 450K.

Plymouth had been working on prising this young prospect away from Molineux for sometime now and recent newspaper reports suggested Plymouth boss Ric had gone above and beyond the call of duty and taken his relationship with the young scto to a new level, rumours had been circling in the press about secret meetings in Asda Car parks, however an eye witness spotted them entering the local toilets together!

Wolves will no doubt be looking at spending the money made available to them from this sale and strengthening the squad that is currently sitting 3rd in the Championship.

Wolves struggle on without Manager

Wolverhampton Wanderers challenge for a top 2 spot could well be over after manager Nick Bott was put out of action, a virus ensured that the young manager was not able to attend Wanderers last 8 games and it has to be said that Assistant Manager Ian Evans was not up to the task of continuing the good work Wolves had done.

(H) Wolves v Birmingham 1-0 Loss

After a long absence Wolves boss Nick Bott returned to take over first team affairs at Molineux, having not won in any of the last 5 league games Wolves faced in form table toppers Birmingham, so with poor morale and an injury crisis to his strikers (Tahirovic out for 9 months with a "Serious viral infection", Johnson 4 months with torn knee ligaments, Bothroyd and Cort also out short term) it was no suprise that Wolves were well beaten, the only disappointment was not hitting the target and testing the Birmingham keeper.

FA Cup 4th Round

(H) Wolves v Plymouth 3-0 Win Halmosi, Bouazza

Wolves faced a lackluster Plymouth at Molineux with what seemed to be one way traffic, Wolves stuck with the attacking 4-3-3 formation and piled on the pressure early on which produced many clear cut opportunities. Wolves soon took the lead through debutant Halmosi. This was followed by two well taken goals from on loan striker Bouazza.

(A) Burnley v Wolves 2-0 Win Clapham, Gyepes

Still looking for the first league win in 7 games Wolves produced a very gritty display to take all 3 points and put the team back on the promotion trail. Goals from defenders Clapham and Gabor Gyepes sealed a solid win for the Wolves.

Molineux January Transfer Window Roundup

After seeing young Charlie Mulgrew go to Plymouth for 450K the Wolves board allowed a good percentage of this money to become available for spending.

First priority was to secure someone who could cover both fullback positions and Wolves were deeply disappointed to lose out on number 1 target Espen Ruud, the versatile defender went to Kobenhaven while the Wolves boss was away.

The first signing was John Sutton from St Mirren for 35K, younger brother of Chris Sutton. A bargain at the price. John will be able to give Wolves added height upfront and hopefully keep improving and push for a first team place.

Peter Halmosi was the next player to put pen to paper and sign with the Wolves. A very experienced professional, Hungarian international Halmosi is a left winger with a pinpoint cross and an eye for goal. Peter was signed from Debrecen for 140K.

John O'Brien was a surprise signing after finally getting a work permit after the initial application was denied. The experienced American international had previously played for Ajax before returning to the States, Wolves signed John from Chivas for 150K and John will add cover and class. John is able to play anywhere down the left and centre of the park with LB and DM being his preferred position.

A late bid from Watford for young out of favour Rohan Ricketts on the penultimate day of the January transfer Window saw Ricketts move to Vicarage Road for 400K plus 35% of any future sale.

With the money from this sale it was surely too late for Wolves to secure the services of any more personnel, however... after watching the deal between Espanyol and Le Havre collapse for the extremely highly regarded Didier Digard, Wolves stepped in in the eleventh hour and secured the hot prospects signing.

Digard is well regarded around the footballing world and Wolves have snapped up a gem. icon_cool.gif

After picking up even more injuries Wolves signed Robert Koren on a free transfer, the attacking central midfielder is a regular for Slovenia and had recently left his old side and was looking for a new side.

(H) Wolves v Plymouth 2-2 Draw Sutton, Bouazza

Wolves faced the in-form team of the division, Plymouth. Ric was coming to Molineux to watch his Plymouth team in action for the first time after receiving the Manager of the Month Award.

Wolves started brightly with Sutton and Bouazza linking up nicely and Wolves took the lead through Suttons first goal of the season. Plymouth soon leveled just before half time and in the second half went ahead after a nicely worked passing move saw Guardiola score a close range shot. However after constant pressure and seeing many spurned opportunities Wolves finally drew level with good work from Sutton again as he lay the ball on for Bouazza to tap in at the back post.

(A) Wolves v Derby 3-1 Loss Vilakazi

Wolves travelled to Pride Park and faced table toppers Derby, with Derby 13 points ahead Wolves had to win this game if they were to keep in the hunt for an automatic promotion spot.

The first 10 minutes were very rocky and saw Derbys Howard spurn an easy chance after a mistake from the usually dependable Murray. Wolves took the lead on 12 mins in Wolves first attack of the game when Villikazi scored from the edge of the area. Derby struck back quickly with a thunderous Howard goal from outside the area and an Oakley penalty put them ahead by half time. The game was effectively over early in the second half when Derby winger Bisgaard scored a "Wonder Goal" that he later admitted he didn't mean.

FA Cup 5th Round

(H) Wolves v Millwall 0-0 Draw

Wolves started this game with only one fit striker, so a new 41221 formation was used. Wolves had much of the ball and controlled the first half but didn't create enough clear cut opportunities and the half time score was 0-0. The second half was much the same and a really dull match ended 0-0.

(H) Wolves v Sunderland 3-1 Loss Sutton

After totally dominating the first half and seeing Wolves come in at half time 1-0 up courtesy of a John Sutton goal, Wolves were simply buried in the second half when Sunderland came back and scored with any shot that happened to be on target! Wolves are really missing their injured strikers and have took a huge dip in form since Tahirovic, Johnson and Bothroyd first picked up injuries. If they don't start to finish games off soon they will be lucky to even make the play offs.

(H) Wolves v Stoke 0-0 Draw

Another disappointing result for Wolves and yet again showing how badly they are missing the strikers who had propelled them to the top 3 at Christmas.

Sutton is still a fledgling and squandered a couple of good chances to earn Wolves the win.

Wolves dropped down to 8th and with moral so low and injuries galore the question has to be asked, what can Wolves do to turn this around.

FA Cup 5th Round Replay

(A) Wolves v Millwall 3-2 Win Koren,Cort,Sutton

After going 1-0 down after 2 mins Wolves were delighted to win this game, trailing twice Wolves came back with a goal in the 90th minute to grab a 3-2 win against a very spirited Millwall side.

Wolves face a daunting trip to Chelski in the quarters.

(A) Wolves v Sheff Wed 3-2 Win Breen, Guilherme, Halmosi

Yet again a despondant Wolves took the field and went 1-0 down early in the first half to a soft goal. Wolves went in 1-0 down at half time and came out a lot more determined, Sutton was withdrawn and Wolves went to a 4-3-3 formation with 2 attacking wingers supporting a single striker.

Breen brought Wolves level from a corner just to see Sheff Wed restore their lead again. With 10 mins to go Wolves pushed on again and Guilherme finished off a fine move to draw level. In the last few mins Olofinjana played a long ball wide and put Halmosi clear 1 on 1 with the keeper and the cool winger slotted home to give Wolves the win they have been looking for.

(A) Wolves v Leeds 4-1 loss Bouazza

Super inconsistent Wolves faced a struggling Leeds side and although Wolves had much of the possession (54%) they were beaten by a clinical Leeds side who simply put away the chances they created.

After being linked to the recent vacancies at Leeds and Plymouth Nick Bott is now wondering if he should have taken one of them instead of flogging what seems to be a dead horse. Wolves have slipped from 3rd place to 9th since the draw at Plymouth.

FA Cup quarter final

(A) Wolves v Chelsea 5-0 loss

Chelsea showed they came here with intent when they opened the scoring in the 2nd minute with a close range goal from Drogba, by half time he had made it 2-0 nil and the game was almost over. Further goals came from Kalou, Essien and Drogba completing his hatrick.

(A) Wolves v West Brom 1-1 Draw Bouazza(pen)

Next up were bitter rivals West Brom. Wolves had to win this game to try and get back towards the play offs. Bothroyd although not fully fit yet was recalled to the squad and Wolves played 2 defensive midfielders by giving a debut to Didier Digard in a new formation.

After the Baggies totally dominated the first half they went ahead from a corner with a Neil Clement goal int he first half. Wolves were a lot more attacking in the second half and Didier Digard put a solid performance in but unfortunately Wolves yet again showed a lack of cutting edge in front of goal until in the 93rd minute Wolves were awarded a penalty and Bouazza tucked it away to grab a well deserved point.

P Brownley Sacked!!!

The arrival of polo2 as new manager of Leeds United was put on hold last night. Apparently Polo2 was so happy to be told the job was his he went on a 8 hour drinking spree. Ken Bates had gathered the media but polo2 was struggling to use the keyboard and mouse. He decided to have a lay down for 5 minutes but fell asleep and missed the session!!!!! However a resolve was taken this morining and he now feels alot better and should be able to take the reigns at the next session. Polo2 apologises to the fans, ken bates and his opponents.

The news that Leeds thrashed rivals Wolves 4-1 helped polo2 get over his hangover,

Polo2 takes over at Leeds and finishes the season well. Robbie Blake put on an outstanding performance in a 2-1 win over Leicester in the final match (Scored both goals). Pre season has seen plenty of changes 6 players in and 8 out as Ken Bates gives polo2 a bit o cash to spend. The most noticeble in are Forward player Hleb, Left sided attacker Larssen and a promising young left back from Ajax. Out go Kelly and Lewis saving Leeds 25K a week in wages.

Hopes are high that Leeds can mount a promotion challenge next season.

Not a lot of activity in the transfer market with the Wolves board only allowing 410K for transfer funds.

Transfers out.

7 Players left Molineux with the most notable being:

(A) Wolves v Leicester 2-1 Loss Bothroyd

Wolves played a fairly attacking game and concentrated a lot of the attacks down the flanks. After mins Leicester went ahead from the prolific Fryatt. Bothroyd pulled it level after Halmosi beat his marker and whipped a wonderful cross in from the left for Bothroyd to get on the end of.

Secod half saw much of the same with Wolves taking it to their opposition and in the 88th minute Wolves were left devastated when Wolves goalie Matt Murray kicked the ball against a Leicester player and helplessly watched it ricochet back into his own goal.

(H) Wolves v Stoke 3-0 Win Jones 2, Sutton

Playing at home Wolves made a couple of forced changes with young Daniel Jones suprisingly getting the nod over Denes Rosa to replace the injured Peter Halmosi and John Sutton replacing the injured Jay Bothroyd.

Wolves had a point to prove after the Leicester game and did exactly that. In the 12th minute Daniel Jones headed in from the far post and he doubled Wolves lead after 15 minutes with almost a carbon copy move. In the second half Wolves continued to press until in the 83rd minute Sutton put the result beyond doubt.

RM - SEb Carole Problem position for Leeds and Carole is only natural right sided player in team. Did ok in first 2 games

Pre Season Update:

Media Prediction: 18th

Average Age: 23

Major Signings: Kanu, Ghali, Hasslebaink

Hot Prospects: Donnely, Jones

On Loan: Fran Merida of Arsenal

Having appraised his squad fully in the summer and following a rather low table finish Andrew Price looked to put his stamp on the QPR team. Many of the older established members whose contracts had come to an end left without offer of renewal. With the old defence gone (most of whom were over 33) Price looked to bring in some young promising talent. 19 signings were made in total but the main mentions came in the form experienced international striker Kanu, journeyman striker Hasselbaink, talented egyptian international Ghali and young Arsenal left back Ryan Garry. Price also managed to secure the season long loan of young spanish starlet Fran Merida from Arsenal. Ray Jones may have worried his left midfield berth was under pressure however Price had other plans for Jones.

Donnely had an impressive summer being called up for the England under 19's and impressing in both training and games. He returned to the QPR squad more confident and ready for the season ahead.

Price also signed experienced welsh goalkeeper Coyne to mentor his young keepers and provide cover.

Looking forward to the season the pundits did not expect anything higher than 18th in the table and the board and fans also expected something mediocre. Price though despite his limited 500k budget felt that he had managed to put together a team that was capabale of slightly more.

First Team Choice:

qprstadia4kk5.jpg

Jones (ST) Kanu (ST)

Merida (AML) Ghali (DM) Donnelly (AMRC) Cardenas (AMR)

Garry (RB) Zehman (DC) Rose (SWDC) Pistone (DR)

Coyne (GK)

Matches:

QPR 4 - Crewe 0

QPR's first match at Loftus Road welcomed newly promoted Crewe. By half time it was obvious Crewe would have a hard time in the Championship as they slumped 2-0 down. Jones' move to striker proved a success as Jones with 2 assists from the experienced Kanu put a hat trick past Crewe. The Superhoops had started well and the fans where now optimistic. However the next match was away against recently relegated Watford.

Watford 1 - QPR 3

Watford had lost the oppening day game to a fellow relegatee in Reading, however the game was anything but even with Reading winning 3-0. Watford were after a positive start at home despite missing lead striker Marlon King. QPR however had different ideas with Kanu slotting home after just 16 minutes. A controversial penalty followed which the young Sherman Cardenas dispatched with great skill to put QPR up 2-0. Watford did manage to get back into the game briefly with a scrambled in on the line effort but QPR quickly put the game beyond them with Ghalis first goal for the club.

Summary:

Just two games into the season and nothing major should be read into results as this point however the start is as pleasing as anyone could hope for. QPR sit atop the English Championship but only time can tell if they can stay there. Realistically Price hopes for a playoff place to sneak into the Premiership, but with clubs like Everton, Reading, Wolves, and Leeds this could proove to a tricky season.

Leeds look to have lost out in a near 2 million pound transfer move for Billy Sharp. A fee in the region of 1.8 million was believed to have been agreed between the clubs for the striker and personal terms didnt seem a problem. However an 11th hour move by Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers seems to have scuppered the deal. It is believed that Sharp will sign for Rangers within the next few days. One move however which looks to be sealed is for QPR's right sided player Rowlands. A surprising delay to the transfer had rumours spreading that the move was set to be canceled, however it is believed that Leeds Directors were working on the Sharp deal and were unable to finalise the move. Leeds have stated that the whether or not the Sharp deal; goes through Leeds had the money to complete both deals.

(H) Wolves v Sunderland 1-1 Draw Koren

After taking control of the first team affairs again Wolves manager Nick Bott saw his Wolves team go behind to a glorious 30 yard strike from Graham Kavanagh after 26 mins, Wolves weathered the storm a bit and changed tactics slightly to stifle the more confident Sunderland side. In the 44th minuite Robert Koren produced a wonderful move and slotted the ball home to send the sides in level at half time. The second half saw Wolves look a bit more positive and the home side felt they could have snatched a win if Bothroyd had managed to hit the target with one of his MANY chances on goal.

TAHIROVIC RETURNS!

Last seasons top scorer Emra Tahirovic returned to the team today and suprisingly went straight into the first X1 after more than 9 months out injured.

Wolves took the lead early on in the 2nd minute when Sutton got on the end of an early cross from Halmosi, the rest of the first half was very quiet and Wolves were ahead at half time. The second half saw Wolves further enhance their lead with a Sutton near post header.

Gary Breen gave a MoM performance on his return after injury.

Leeds dropped to mid table after the latest session. A couple of deadline day signings has boosted the squad with attacking right sided player Gulherme joining on a long term deal and Vela from Arsenal on a short term loan. Brownley has now got options to play different formations and has a strong squad. In the league cup Leeds overcame League one Oopposition with a goal from Einarsson in what was a relative reserve team. They were then beaton by premeirship Fulham with a stronger team but played a new Formation 4-3-3 It is a system Brownley may use on occasions and were unlucky to go down against Fulham

Hope are high that the league form will improve.
