Timma Posted March 8, 2007 Share Posted March 8, 2007 Stevenage started the season in a way many people expected as we struggled badly and lost the first 4 games. But after a switch of tactics to a 4-1-4-1 formation they managed to go the next 10 games unbeaten and moving them into a mid table position. The signings of stojanoski and Nathan ellington hopefully looked to of solved the teams problem in finding the back of the net so hopefully we wont have to wait as long this season before we are sure of staying up. Timma Posted March 16, 2007 Share Posted March 16, 2007 It was starting to look as if we were actually going to do good this season as we sat in mid table just outside of the playoffs with about half of teh season gone. That was until i had to leave thanks to illness so the assitant took over and dragged us down to just 1 point clear of the relegation zone and thanks to that i will make sure he never improves or he might end up at some obscure non league side like cambridge united. After haering about cambridge manager Davie orrs comments all i can say is that im not the only one with this problem then as a certain player called Totti finally left cambridge he said that the manager could no longer satisfy his demand on and off the pitch . Sy Posted March 21, 2007 Share Posted March 21, 2007 Cards new manager saves day/season/world Woking F.C were proud to announce the coup signing of manager Simon "The Ferret" Lynn since his well known statement of intent to return to management Many clubs put thier name into the hat for his services but alas it was th allure and the clubs fantastic fan-base that made Lynn choose the cards "Aye, I headed doon here and frankly the fans were mental to have me, I seen that as a big compliment and personally I think this wee club can go places, the boardroom has people in it insted o yer pain in the a$$ penny pinching tubes" Simon said at todays press conference When asked what he plans to do with the club, Lynn mearly said, "well the sky is the limit, ken?" A few games remained when Lynn first signed up but he instanly adressed some balance issues on the wing by bringing in Steve clark on a short term deal to help out the right wing, Nathan Lowndes also came in as a stop gap striker and old head for the young guys. Lynn managed a few draws and 1 win in those games but the fans and board were happy with the visable improvements on the pitch. Lynn set out his stall in an interview on the Woking website saying next season will be better and that several targets are already being looked into and he hopes to announce some good news soon. Speaking Exclusivly to the Non-League paper Margate Fc Manager Rob Knott has Played down the league position of 2nd place in the English Confrence South. He said ' as the fans know margate have been a top half side now for 2 years and last year i thought it was going to be our year after all the effort the lads put in! But it wasn't to be and we missed out. The plus's we must take out of this failure is that we learn from our mistakes and we put them right this time. Refusing to single out specific players for praise , Knott said Margate have real quality now in term of players over the last couple of years players were stop gaps and filling squad number just to get bodies in and keeping players on there toes , now he adds he only signs players that are currently better or can improve the squad.This can be seen in the wage budget that has double over the last 4 years! With most players now having league experience or are hungry youngsters that are willing to prove they were wrong to be release from league clubs knott states Margate are a club hungry for sucesss. Speaking briefly on the clubs finance , Knott chuckles now i know money is big now in terms of non league football with the likes Big Spending Chelmsford and and other clubs dropping from the national , But i still havn't signed a player for a fee which has helped Margate become a financially stable and profitable Club. After a brilliant 14 game unbeaten start to the 2012/13 Conference South, Basingstoke Town seemed to loose their way a little as they dropped out of play off contention. A fine run of games at the tail end of the season, most notably a 6-3 away win against Hayes saw The Bas leap frog Margate into 5th positon leaving manager Rob Knott in tears and cursing the fact that Basingstoke would be in the play offs due to their better record between the teams. If the joy of gaining a play off place at the expense of Margate was not enough to put a smile on Phillips rather handsome face the fact that his beloved team would face rivals Hayes in a two legged play off had him beaming. The first leg was played at the wonderful home of football the Camrose ground in Basingstoke. 6000 adoring fans, 651 of which were seated watched the mighty Bas put on a superlative display of Conference South football and comfortably win 2-0, the Bas had one foot in the play off finals. Unfortunately Hayes manager Steve Gold was intent on slamming that door shut on Phillips foot. In what can only be described as one of the games of the season Hayes led 4-2 at the end of normal time, forcing extra time and if still no result the dreaded penalty shoot out. Knowing Gold was German the Bas were understandably nervous at the prospect of penalties. But penalties it was after neither side could find the winner in extra time. Both managers watched nervously from the sidelines and had to endure several misses before the mighty Bas held their nerve and drilled home the winning penalty. Two fingers up to Hayes the Bas were through to the play off finals against Dag and Red. In front of a packed Wembley crowd two evenly matched sides were left in a 2-2 stalemate after extra time, penalties would once again decide the fate of Basingstoke, fate had already smiled lovingly on Phillips once would she again? Fate is a two faced b***h, the mighty Bas who surely above all others deserved to be promoted and play the likes of ***** teams Cambridge in the Conference National were beaten in the play off finals on penalties and dammed to spend another season in the Conference South. The only high the Basingstoke manager Paul Phillips could now take from this season was the fact managers Rob Knott and Steve Gold felt worse. With the new 2013/14 season starting and still feeling the after effects of 3 weeks straight drowning his sorrows manager Phillips decided to extend his holiday and put his assistant manager in charge for 19 games. Returning to the Camrose with spirits lifted from a well earned rest with many spirits lifted to mouth, Phillips was pleased that although assistant manager Stevie Woods had gotten Basingstoke kicked out of the cups he had guided them to fourth in the table a mere 6 points off the automatic promotion spot. Timma Posted March 30, 2007 Share Posted March 30, 2007 So far this season i have found myself pleasently suprised at how well my team are performing in the league after we looked like we would struggle after the first few games. But a good run of form has taken us to just outside of the playoffs. Were also looking good financilly thanks to are chairman selling a few of are top players. Only down side of the season so far is that were turning into England, no not boring and crap but we are terrible at penalties and have been knocked out of the league cup and JPT on penalties but apart from that everytings looking good for the Boro. Have failed to win in 13 out of 16 matches and is still fighting the in relegationzone. The supporters and chairman is not very happy. Already before the first match the chairman wanted me out of the door. Very hard odds against, but we will still be fighting against all odds and try to overcome our destiny. Well thats the important news out of the way, sitting pretty in the table with a good goals scoring record and ok-ish defence means we could be up for promotion. Heres hoping After a super signing frenzy at the start of the season where Simon Lynn spent a wopping 6K on players and spent more on releasing deadwood from the squad, Simon managed to bring in an entire team on frees, Some expierienced players joined the fray and a few youngsters also helped bring in a fresh look to the team. Marcus Wright was snapped up on a free from under the noses of a few bigger clubs and so far he is a scoring sensation and with help take Woking onto bigger and better things. But alas only the end of the season will tell if woking are good enough for the title or not, promotion at least must be achieved for the amount of players brought in or Simon will be getting his P45 in the post.
