League 5th - lost in the play-offs semi-final against Gravesend

FA cup 3rd Rd lost to Wigan Ath after a replay

FA trophy 1st Rd lost to Gravesend after a replay

Fans player of the year - Ange Lourougnon

Top goal scorer - Totti 18

Most games won in row - 3

Most games lost in row - 2

Most games without losing - 7

Most games without winning - 6

Got 16 players out of contract at the end of the season, which include the likes of Totti, Lourougnon, Oli, Taralidis and Robinson, and 14 backroom staff.

We’ve deduced the debt to around £300k, but it don't helping with the wages as the board have in-forced a cap on wages.

I doubt there will be any new signings barr Paul Swift from Nottingham Forest, but like last season we might re-view it during the winter Window.

We’ve been tipped as one of the fav's to lift the title.

I guess only time will tell icon_wink.gif

Hayes - A New Beginning

Hayes welcomed aboard a new manager to bring a fresh approach to first team squad, they were absolutely delighted to name Steve Gold as their new manager.

Hayes are currently sitting in 16th in the league and in their last few seasons included finishes of 20th and 21st in the league, something the chairman wanted to change, with 4 games left there is still a left to do to make sure they earn a good enough finish comparing to previous seasons.

Hayes are currently the lowest human controlled team in the Conference South, the challenge is to catch up Margate managed by Knotty!

So of course as things are, no budget, no money, no nothing, just the ball, the pitch, the ref and grinding hard tackles....lets get to the action!

Hayes vs Newport Co

Gold's first game in charge and what a delight for it to be infront of the home fans aswell. So what could be better than playing a first game at home infront of the fans? Well, giving them a win and a goal fest of course! Well, it was exactly what Newport ordered of the Menu, a demolishing debut for Gold in which they actually went a goal down first through Mitchell. But we battled hard and got an equaliser before taking the Newport defence apart and banging in another five goals after that!

Full Time: 6 : 2

Scorers: Robbins (3), Earl, Cornwall, Asafu(P)

MotM: Robbins

Hayes vs Weston Super Mare

After such a great debut how can you follow it up? Well how else, thrash the next team you face! So thats what we did, WSM came for a hiding and thats exactly what they got, three more points and two wins out of two, surely, this cant continue!

Full Time: 3 : 1

Scorers: Palmer(2), Cornwall

MotM: Cotton

Sutton vs Hayes

Talk about taking me down from cloud nine! But a fully deserved win for Sutton, they are 4th in the league and aiming for promotion, they showed it here that they are desperate to get out the league and have got the class to do it!

Full Time: 3 : 0

Scorers: None

MotM: None

Hayes vs Salisbury

The last game of the season and we were so close to pulling of a result here, third place Salisbury needed a win and with a bit of luck and poor defending they got that vital goal they needed to seal the deal. A hard fought game which we should have snatched a point but it wasnt to be, here the summer begins, the build up for the new season awaits.

Full Time: 0 : 1

Scorers: None

MotM: Cotton

So two wins and two defeats, cant complain too much about that, two cracking wins aswell and something we can hopefully build upon towards the new season.

The New Season

The first game of the season is just days away and its anticipation to see who is going to go up and down for this season, Hayes will be aiming to improve the squad and get a mid season placing or better of course.

Unfortunately with the manager also away over pre-season, there was no one to check that his star talents were signed up for next season, unfortunately I received the news too late as I found out my best player Robbins had left us on a free transfer as his contract expired as well as Cottons, two prospects I was looking forward to see play as I knew they would show up a lot of teams in the coming season, so we're going to have to get some replacements in if at all possible!

Transfers

So having lost Robbins and Cotton I did some homework on bringing in some experienced players who could help this squad move up the table this season. All on Free Transfers and with plenty of experience from various leagues, first came former Hearts striker Gary Wales, I'll be hoping he can knock a few goals in. Joining him were Paul Thirwell, former Sunderland defensive midfielder, goalkeeper Jan Budtz who played 3 seasons at Grays for fellow manager Nuke. Last but not least in the summer buys is Hungarian Gyorgy Kiss who had spent 4 seasons at Chesterfield. All players bring in vital experience and skill to a team who lack a lot of both, hopefully I can add a few more faces to the squad before the first game of the season.

The squad seems pretty balanced now but I will certainly need a few more faces to freshen up the look and help us incase of injuries and suspensions that we all know happen throughout the season.

So can Hayes make it! I bloody hope so! Keep tuned for more....

Prescott is related to Stevenage manager Tim Prescott, so it seems that managing skills run in the family.

Steve lashed out at his brother saying that he could take on his team anyday so they are going to have a "friendly" match at the start of next season to see if he was right.

Having remembered what fellow 'manager' Steve Prescott had said about his Stalybridge being able to take on Stevenage he was able to look back and laugh at the spanking that stalybride and its manager will hopefull remember for a long time as Stevenage hammered the badgers 6-0 in a pre-season friendly.

The badgers new manager, Steve Prescott has started his managerial career well. Prescott has lost only one league game since he has taken over (other loss was ass man).

Stalybridge sit in a comfortable 2nd place which could have been 1st if they had a good ass man. Steve would personally like to thank Taav for giving him such a great striker for free. Rhodes has helped the team keep on winning.

Will the badgers be celebrating at the end of the season? It seems like only Burton can stop them. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Stevenage manager Tim Prescott Cant wait for the new season to begin even though his side is set to struggle according to the media who gave his newly promoted side a prediction of 23rd place in league one this season. But despite that Prescott is quietly confident about his sides chances after his board finally allowed him money to allow him to sign a quite a few quality player over the summer like Stephen Bywater, Andy Carroll, Lee Wilkie and a few foreigners that nobody can spell. His aim is still to stay up in Stevenages first ever season at this level but he is hoping that they can prove the critics wrong.

After a highly successfull season afc wimbledon finish 4th after being predicted to finish 24th and be relegated. Robert McDougalls Wimbledon were on top of the league after 10 games shocking everyone and they said it wouldnt last but they managed to grab a play off. Unfortuantly with both the number 1 and 2 keepers inj as well as star midfielder jamie smith and club top goalscorer was suspended for both legs and the same players missed the FA final. Wimbledon were hammerd 4-0 at home by wimbledon and won teh return game 5-4 so lossed out on an 8-5 agg. The misery just kept coming though and they lost out on the fa trophy in the 115th minute when luton scored a goal described by Mcdougall as "A PURE *****'R". But was Mr McDougall sour faced ? Hell No ! Infact he was in a fantastic mood and praised his whole squad for making it so far when predicted to go no were.

Now the current season looms and McDougall has brought in a fine crop of players who he says is capable of taking the title. Only time will tell.

Well, as you all know, I haven't been on much recently so I've decided it would be fairer if my place got offered to someone else.

I know I said I hadn't quit but there's probably people who want to join and who would play more often than me.

Good luck with the rest of the game.

Overall a great season and hoping that we will continue the same way in L2, even though the predictions say 23rd... well see.

Aim for next season is to achieve respectable league postion and have a good cup run.

Due to bad finances, no incoming transfers will be done. Only decent youngsters for free. Probably some key players will go next season, but will see.

After missing playoffs by 1 points Grays lost some of their best players before the new season. "That is a price you have to pay in lower leagues. If you miss the playoffs then your best players understand that they are good enough to play in higher leagues so you just lost them.."

Christoffer Lundgren who has scored 20 goals and Balazs Meszaros who had a perfect season said that they want a new challange and they sold by 4 million pound in total.

Orhun Ozdemir said that he believe that they are one of the best teams in league one and they are one of the strongest candidates to promtoe this season. Grays bought 8 players spending 1.3 M before the season.

most pleasing thing about the run is that we only let in 2 goals, and in return has seen us put in a good challenge for the league title this season.

Transfers

we've lined up Harry Smart to join on the 1st of Jan after Q.P.R agreed to sell him for £1k, Smart played last season for us on loan

and also Billy Coyne of Q.P.R for £1k, Billy plays left back.

players leaving

Darren Williams on a free, spent 4 seasons with us but failed to agree terms on a new deal.

Chris Gordon free Northwich, in 4 seasons could only manage 6 apps.

Gareth Davies on a free, spent 18 months with the club, was freed to help with the cost cutting.

we cut our ties with Arsenal after a season, as they failed to sent us a single player.

the board helped to bring back M.K Dons as our parent club, this is now our 2nd term with the Dons, so far we've had 3 players in on loan.

up and coming games

FAC 2nd rd match against Thurrock at home is one that where looking forward to, as we are expected to beat them and get to the 3rd rd for the 2nd year running.

boxing day fixture A.F.C Wimbledon at home, as the A.F.C Dons are 2nd in the league and only just above us, this surely will be cracker and one we will look to win.

With Just about half of Stevenages first season in League one gone their manager is fairly pleased with how things are going as they are currently nine points clear of the relegation places. But he is slightly worried as the clubs strikers cant seem to score but with the £1m transfer budget that he has after selling Bojan Steharnik to Sheff Utd for 1.5m there will hopefully be a few players coming in at the january transfer window to help Stevenage make that gap between them and the relegation places bigger.

Signed on the 18th of Oct 2006 from Southampton on loan for 3 months as cover, he made his name in the midfield, but he was soon re-signed until the end of the season on loan. The following season Totti was signed for the whole season on loan; the team struggled and in seer desperation as the U's sat in the middle of a dogfight just above the relegation zone, and Orr put him up front along side John Hastings who was on loan from the M.K Dons. And you could say the rest is history.

His 5 goals in the last 8 games pushed the U's up the table and to safety.

Season 08/09 Southampton refused to re-loan Totti, but thanks to the sale of Michael Morrison to Inverness Caley Ths for £425k in mid August, this gave Orr a few notes to launch a bid, after 2 weeks of wheeling and dealing Totti was finally a Cambridge Player on the 30th Aug for a fee of £110k.

where he would link up with Lourougnon who joined from Coventry for £55k and together they became a feared partnership in the conference.

after 6 seasons Totti finally left to join Championship side S****hrope on a free.

after 201 apps for the club and of course 88 goals, Totti has and always will have the freedom of Cambridge.

now only 23 he has plenty of time left in his career to return and walk straight into the Cambridge Utd first XI, and we hope he does.

2012/13

Marcelo was signed for £6k from WBA, the 25 year old Brazilian has a mammoth task of replacing Totti's boots, with no other signings Marcelo looks to be the one and only for the season.

as another drive to cut the wage bill and lower the debt, 14 players including Totti left the club

with £5k cut off the wage most due to Totti and Basso's wages, the board have lower the wage bugdet to £9k which means where still over.

as for debt we're £250k in the red, but heading in the right direction.

once again we're tipped to go up, with media predition saying 4th.

Stevenage still cant believe their luck after they pulled of their own version of the great escape ans managed to avoid the drop into league one by a single point. We were dragged into the relegation battle after a terrible run of 6 defeats in a row which left us looking destined for a instant return to L2, but are fortunes suddenly changed and we went into the last day of the season just 1 point from safety after going 3 games unbeaten. Are luck seemed to of run out though as we were still in the same position with 5 minutes of the season remaining despite comfortably leading 3-1 at home but very late goals help us by yeovil and carlisle helped us jump to 19th and put us 1 point out of the relegation and sent mk dons down instead and it sparked massive celebrations from the stevenage fans and manager.

We are expected to struggle again this season and so far only rudolph austin and herwig hevera have been brought in to stregthen the squad but with a transfer budget of £600k a few players might be coming in so that we dont have to leave it that long before we are safe this season.

NEXT SEASON

Media prediction 24th, so not much pressure on us. With the team gaining another year worth of experience (the first team average age is 22), we will see if we are able to match the quality.

Board still cannot find any suitabe parent nor feeder team, so we are still on our own.

Finances have gone up to positive, even though being 3k over the wage limit. And that is all thanks to our dedicated fans!

Nest season is for them!

GOOO YORK!

Consistent is the word that goes with Hayes, manager Gold took over and took them to this tally last season with just a few games remaining. This season they have done it again, 50pts on the board and above newcomer Basingstoke too!

Gold brought some new players from AFC Wimbledon on the end of last season who seem to be helping the club move into the right direction, I will certainly be hoping for some more signings as they are definately needed by the club in every position.

Michael Bridges was brought in on a free and once he found his scoring touch he was on fire and kept his record up of scoring in almost every game since that first goal, hopefully a mid table finish we can look forward to next season if all goes well. In Pre-season Bridges continued his form and we could on form to seeing the best from him in years!

With plenty of competition in the league it should be interesting to see how the others get one, promotion is not on the cards this season but you just never know where suprises may come from!

Stay tuned to see if Hayes do ever manage to make it back to the conference!

basingstoke.PNG

Basingstoke Town Football Club are an English association football team, based in Basingstoke, Hampshire, playing in the Conference South.

Their ground, The Camrose, is named after their late benefactor, Lord Camrose.

Their motto, 'Vestigia Nulla Retrorsum', means 'No stepping back'.

Founded in 1896 Basingstoke are also known as The Dragons or The Stoke.

In what seemed like a shock decision Kestrel FM. 2-Ten FM reported live on air manager Francis Vines was sacked and unknown New Zealander Paul Phillips put in charge for the last 11 games of the 2012 Conference South season.

The Stoke were in the comfortable position of 15th when Phillips took over and Phillips immediately went about dragging them down into a relegation battle losing 4-0 first game to the then bottom of the table Worchester.

When asked what went wrong in an interview by the Basingstoke Observer Phillips gave the perplexing reply of "well mate, I couldnt understand it, all my players had to do was pick up the ball and run with it and score a try and we could have won 4-5""instead they kept kicking it along the ground, I guess I just need a little time to get used to the style of Rugby you lot play over here".

With a few results going Basingstokes way as Phillips came to terms with this new style of play, Basingstoke's slide to the bottom was halted and they finished the season 17th.

In what will be his first full season in charge, manager Phillips will be looking for a better showing from his team whilst looking to bring in a few new faces and prove the Stoke doubter's wrong.

Sorry to disturb your topic lads, i was just wondering is there any point filling in the form on the website. Or will the game be taken up until the new version?

Just thought i would ask rather than waste everybody's time.

Thanks

Suppose i best make my 2nd ever post!!!

Not a bad start to the season for The Fleet, currently sitting in 4th place in the Conference National. I thought Farnborough were gonna run away with it this season but they've been pegged back a bit which is good to see, makes it more interesting.

I've only been predicted 9th this season so there is no pressure on my boys from the media to get promoted, but thats what we'll be going for. Last season we were favourites to win the league and we ended up finishing 9th lol, so its nice to be out of the spotlight.

When i loaded up the saved game from last week that davie sent me i noticed my assistant manager was nice enough to sell off three of my 1st teamers lol!!!!! He sold my main striker to Hibernian for 800k, which i dont mind to much as it is alot of money and it totally wiped out my debt, but didnt leave me long to find a replacement before the season started this sunday. He sold my first choice centre back for £24k to Blackpool. Luckily i had already had 2 decent young centre backs waiting to join the club when the transfer market re-opened. However when he sold my right back i wasnt so happy because i had no decent cover for him, and although i recieved 100k for him i still havent been able to find a decent right back to take over from him. I also need a half decent back up keeper as he decided to sell my spare keeper as well lol.

With the transfer window opening up again soon i'll be looking for a couple of new players to join me for my push for promotion.

I think its about time i deserved to get promoted as i've been in or around the play offs for the last 4-5 seasons bar last season. I think its time for Gravesend and Northfleeet to be playin professional football, rather than semi-pro. Look out Davie and anyone else looking to go up this season coz im getting promoted no matter what!!!!!!! lol

Unbeaten after 13 games is one sentence the Stoke fans never thought they would hear but hear it they have.

Tipped to battle with relegation Basingstoke Town have turned the Conference South table on its head this season and can hopefully continue the rich vein of form they currently find themselves in.

Phillips has added four new faces to the squad who have gelled immediately with the existing squad as well as two loan signings from the Stokes parent club Southampton.

The manager has reserved special praise for the form of Michael Gadsby who has been sensational in goal, giving Basingstoke's defence some much needed confidence at the back.

Although only part way through the season the supporters are confident that the Stoke can challenge for the Conference South title this year.

"All hail the South, you know you want to be in this league"

7 year itch

Each season, BBC Radio Cambridgeshire's Mark Johnson looks forward to Cambridge United's season and gives us his expert view on what's in store for the U's...

After 330 games Orr is facing up to life without Totti and his 7th year in the Conference with Cambridge Utd. There is no make or break season any more for him, yes the club is crippled with debt, yes Orr has kept the club challenging for the titles and play-off spots, yes we dislike Ed Reynolds the Gravesend manager.

MJ Hi Dave and thanks for taking the time to speak with us

DO no problem

MJ how we gonna cope without Totti and do you think Anderson can make the step up?

DO this season going to be different Ange is now the main man up front, I believe he’s got what it takes to hold the line. Anderson will get his chance.

MJ we’re tipped for 4th spot, what do you reckon?

DO it’s been 7 years to long in this league, only way is up, I wouldn’t face it, the fact I might be in the same league with Knott, Gold, Phillips or worst still Plumb.

MJ is it true you once offered Gold a contract with the club as a tea boy

DO yeah after he fled Germany, he was homeless and sleeping rough, just so happened I knew Steve from my days in Germany, and I took pity on him

After a brief interview with Orr, I got the feeling everything was good at Cambridge and this could be our year.

At long last a return to the football league.

Well what a suprise, no not that Basingstoke are still unbeaten, but Hayes are top of the league! Both managers doing wonders with their respective teams and are hoping their current form continues further.......

In Pre-Season, Hayes did not win a single game and the best they managed was a 3-3 draw with Scarborough so it was no suprise what happened when the opening day came along.

First up a home game, it was time to see if the players can turn the pre-season form around but they couldnt, despite some good chances it was Chelmsford who took advantage and the game finished 2-0 to the visitors.

It would have been nice to start with a win infront of the fans but the players could make it up with a win against promotion chasing Salisbury, a team who have always been there or there abouts in terms of play off places where hoping to continue with this tradition but they got a suprise this season and a thrashing too! When Hayes hit back, they hit hard and it was the wonder that is Bridges who scored two followed by Wales adding the third.

Wales was on fire for the away trip against Havant scoring a brilliant hattrick and even missed a penalty the plonker! The assistant took charge for the trip to the Red Daggers and an OG and an effort from Howells wernt enough for even a draw, our second defeat.

But then 11 games unbeaten after that last defeat, what a run! With 9 wins to go with it propelled Hayes to the top of the Conference South, Kiss, Bridges and Wales all on fire scoring from all sorts of angels....to round up wins against West super Mare, Braintree, Tiverton, Newport, Eastleigh, St. Albans, Enfield and Sutton we got to meet one of the best teams in the league, managed by Plumbie, his Weymouth side not only want every player in the league but they got some absolutely cracking players that can easily turn games in this league.......and that they did against Hayes.......

They turned their back of course! It was a tornado that ripped through as only after 2 minutes Hayes took the lead, then on the stroke of half time an absolute piledriver with Kiss smashing in a 30yarder to make the Hayes fans go wild, they couldnt believe it, 2-0 up vs Weymouth surely it couldnt get better..........but it did!!! icon_smile.gif Bridges scored an absolutely magnificant goal, no not just 1, but two, no he wasnt finished there either, it turns out, a 24 minute hattrick!! Weymouth got a consolation goal but by that time, Hayes were already sipping champagne in the showers! 5-1 the final score, a truly remarkable performance for a club like Hayes masterminded of course by the manager!

The fans had been wondering why Gold had been away for a game or two and details have now been announced in the clubs fanzine magazine......

radio_banner_199_21.gif

BBC Radio Cambridgeshire's Mark Johnson interviewed U's manager Davie Orr recently and was thrilled when Steve Gold accepted to come along for an interview to hear all about what happened with that Contract offer from Davie Orr them few years ago and how he ended up as Hayes manager.....

MJ Welcome Steve, im pleased to meet you

SG Likewise, i've heard your show a few times whenever Ive been in Cambridge

MJ Well, to get right to business, is it true Davie Orr offered you a contract as a tea boy?

SG He did yes, although the sleeping rough isnt quite true!

MJ So what made you take, what seems, such a ridiculous job at a Football Club?

SG Well, I was seeing it as more of a long term plan in getting into football at any level, although having kinda been out of the game for a couple of years I really thought someone could do with my help and Davie really needed it!

MJ So as we all know, your now Hayes manager, what went wrong so to speak?

SG I have to admit it was a dare!

MJ A dare, tell us more....

SG Well, I was about to serve some lovely tea to the lads when we got talking football obviously and I gave the lads a bit of tactical advice, Davie overheard and despite being a bit pleased that it worked, was a little annoyed you could say, so he said, if your really that good then take someone crappy like Hayes who've just got back in the Conference South and show me what your made of!

SG So after washing the cups I made my way into Davie's Office and called up Mr Goodall Chairman of Hayes, after about an hour on the phone it was a good as a done deal in myself becoming their manager

MJ Well thats certainly a remarkable story and I thank you for sharing it with me and our listeners

SG Thats no problem at all, its my pleasure

MJ Thanks again for coming in and good luck with getting Hayes

MJ Having been one full season in charge of Hayes, Steve Gold certainly seemed to be gelling a team together as they are currently sitting top of the conference south league.

So a great interview with MJ and hopefully the Hayes form can continue, it has been difficult getting in worthwhile players but now that I have completed one full season with the Hayes lasd I have managed to get in decent replacements like Wales and Bridges who are now starting to find some great form in their final years of their career, I hope it continues and who knows, the unexpected might happen for the relegation battlers called Hayes!

Stay tuned for more.......
