Transfer values

Can someone explain what exactly it is that influences the value of a player.. Because something seems to me to be a little skewed

For example my star player and most consistent performer :

Claudio Echeverri is valued at £147-£176m. He is current Premier league top scorer. Plays regularly for Argentina. He's only 25 years old and close to his max potential. Former World player of the year 2 years running. And his value at that point was still under £100m

Then there is a wonderkid at Barcelona. 23 years old. Nowhere near Echeverri in terms of total output. Around the same PA 176. Only awards he has received is European Golden boy 3 years ago, And being named in Spanish first division best 11. His value is between £185-264m.

Giorgio Scalvini is Valued at £80-87m has been super consistent for me. Not won as many awards as Echeverri but a few team of the season, world team of the season etc. Regular starter for Italy with 94 caps and still only 27 years old.

Now compare him with Calum Doyle who plays for Aston Villa, Same age, PA nowhere near that of Scalvini or his partner in Crime Diomande. Not won any awards other than club ones. Just 22 caps for England yet his value is close to £110m

Now a little extra context. My side Cardiff City - Current reigning prem champs for the past 5 seasons. Current champions league holders. Best Ranked side in the world and UK. I don't have a big squad. 24 first teamers. 8 in my U21 team and 4 in the U18

Barcelona are 4th best in world. Aston Villa are 20th.

So to these Values - What is it that influences them? Home rep, World rep, current rep, Age, Contract length, wages?

Considering Both of my players have 5 year contracts on 350k + whilst the other 2 have 2 years and 3 years on their contracts, Both on considerably less wages compared to my 2 and all their reps are higher too. For their values to be higher than my own players values doesn't make sense.

Am I looking at this all wrong? It's not like I want to sell either player, but the low values is causing me unwanted bids. If their values were similar to that of the Barcelona player then teams wouldn't be constantly trying to buy at shameful prices.

Club reputation has quite a big influence on player value. I think FM generally doesn't do a great job recognising shifts in reputation and club rep tends to rise and fall too slowly, which often leads to this sort of situation. The game is probably still treating your Cardiff team as a mid-table EPL club at best, despite your success, while Barca will be among the highest reps in the game, even if they haven't won La Liga in a while (as is the case in my save). I think things like the overall financial health of the club may also factor into a player's valuation, since a healthy bank balance will mean less need to sell to balance the books.

I suspect that the value shown for ‘our’ players is close to a ‘real’ value, whereas AI team player values are supposed to represent what it would take to prise them away. I’m not sure it works well, but that seems to be the intention.

You can set a higher figure on the player transfer page, to reflect that same ‘don’t even bother if you’re not coming with this amount’ number. Ofc then the player might get grouchy :herman:!

The realism mod really helps with this

Market values:
Market values have been adjusted globally so that the actual transfer fees paid (!not the market values shown!) in nation XY are more realistically represented. The market values in some larger nations have been lowered (e.g. England). The reason for this is that otherwise, talented players in particular won’t get transferred often, as the club demands are far too high.

I've had similar thoughts to the point I was ready to open a bug thread about it. There was an outstanding newgen CF sold to arsenal for a few million but then valued 250M+ despite only playing 9 league games as a 19 year old. I didn't think much of it until I had players labeled as world class (Declan Rice, Bellingham) worth barely 100M at Man Utd.

The most hilarious part of this was I sold Sancho for 90M to PSG and bought Vini Jr for 170 after add-ons. Sancho is now worth 200+ while Vini Jr is between 130-150 despite earning more and having a longer contract than he did at Madrid. Seems pretty crazy to me that to buy the same player back it would be twice what I paid for him while the better player I'd lose money on despite performing better than Sancho ever did in the league.

It seems to me more like SI is tweaking the game a little bit to prevent human players from buying everyone cheap and exploiting the AI too easily. Probably easier to add value to non human players teams than it is to make better negotiation logic.

Makes some kind of sense. Load up the NPC's with cash, Thus allowing them to spend?

Frustrating though. Especially as you said those players we've bought become less valuable to the AI when they are wanting them, then price increases twice over

Probably two fold if top players cost 1.5-2x of what they'd normally cost (assuming no other AI is interested) it prevents you from spending that money on other players while giving the AI two bites of the cherry to replace a player. I don't think its how it's done really but for a shortcut to AI Transfer logic I could see it. Crazier things have happened from games in the 90s lol.

the system is rigged for Ai teams. even if your team is the the most reputable team in the game, your player are the best both in CA and PA, it will be half the value of AI team

The system is rigged for humans. You can do anything. The AI can only do what has been programmed.
