[FM24] The Football League - Founders Quest

image.png.16f056675932f9ab72fb6b8aa506d2f0.png

Over 135 years have passed since the Football League was first formed in 1888 by William McGregor (fact check). Twelve clubs joined forces to live a vision of creating competitive Professional league football. Today millions of football fans enjoy the fruits of their labour and hence we dedicate this Football Manager challenge to paying tribute to their vision.

The first league title in 1888-89 season landed up going to Preston North End as champions. From early 1900s they would never all meet again in the same league. And so the quest ahead of us is to make it happen.

T he Challenge

image.jpeg.b640c55c5ccff0b156dc88f59b101afb.jpeg

Fast forward to 2023, 11 clubs (with exception to Accrington which dissolved in 1896) find themselves scattered across different levels of the English football pyramid.

The main goal is simple: Get all 11 clubs back into the top flight league of English Football (Premier League) together yet again. Enjoy atleast 1 season with all teams in the Premier League.
Second goal: Win an English Premier League Title, Carabao Cup, FA Cup and European Trophy between either of the 11 founder clubs.

Note: Premier League can only be won with all 11 founder clubs remaining in the league. The same applies technically with European trophies with exception to a successful European campaign with founder club (outside the PL) through qualifying via winning the FA Cup or Carabao Cup outside the Premier League .

Basic Rules:
- Start manager unemployed with levels Continental Pro License and International Experience. Only jobs for the 11 founder clubs can be applied for.
- No managing of founder clubs in the PL unless all 11 clubs are in the Premier League already. A founder club dropping out of the PL will require you to break out of PL and get them promoted
- Promoting a founder club into the PL must follow a move to another founder club before start of first game the following season (either through job application or approach from founder club, or resignation)
- No founder club can be joined using ingame editor. If there is no founder club to join, then you need to remain unemployed until successful application with founder club materializes.
- Moving between founder clubs can take place at any part of the season as you see fit.
- Loans and senior affiliates between founder clubs is permitted.

Season1 [23/24] - Preston Analysis

So we before we make a decision to apply for Preston lets take a closer look at what is transpiring there.

With only 1 win in 11, 2 draws and 8 losses, this doesn't bode well. A quick turnaround will be needed.

Although there are 8 defeats, they are marginal. This is a good sign that maybe they are worth turning around at this stage.

Their finances are expected, but with the window shut there can only be possible loans worked on. The downside, is they already overspending on the wage budget
image.png.c812642281be32f66d77080ce0cc80ee.png

From a transfer business perspective they only took in a couple of free transfers and loaned out Noah Mawene.
Most of their transfer business was done in July already

image.thumb.png.08fe1e482350efba23bc64404ca20fff.png

They have been playing largely in a 3421 formation with not enough goals from anyone notable.

Their First team Squad Depth looks OK.
image.thumb.png.83f00ba78aea59aa0223f92c314318fe.png

Their staff completement is a little more pleasing on the eye
image.thumb.png.eec95ec6cc915ef58c4fd2f4878d72cb.png

Their Fixtures over the next 3 months sees 9 HOME games and 9 AWAY GAMES. Millwall has already knocked Preston out of the Carabao Cup in the 3rd round.

Season 1 [23/24] - Preston Job Applied
With the exception of Aston Villa (who are under performing), we have decided to start off with Preston who need a turn around. The other founder clubs need to continue as they are and hopefully we can get Preston out of relegation and into middle table as an early milestone.
For this reason, we have made our decision and we have applied for the Job. We await further feedback for a possible interview.

Season 1 [23/24] - Preston Job Offer

It looks like we have been a successful applicant. Now down to negotiations. Wage and transfer budget was increased slightly as per our interview.
Avoiding relegation is the order of the day.

image.png.19bc40bebdc324361d8201e24e9247b7.png

We tried to negotiate for 13k a week, but had to settle for 12k. 2 year deal on the table.
