Another new stadium disaster… I quit the game for good

I’ve been managing Genoa for 9 amazing years in which I took the club from Serie B to the top of Europe. Couple of seasons back with all the CL and Serie A trophies in our museum the board listened to my pleas and agreed to build a new “modern” stadium to accomodate the current stature of the club. After years of planning and wait I was so eager to start playing in our new 48000 stadium. After winning everything there was literally no reason for me to keep playing there, all I wanted was to see that the club that I worked so hard for to play in a big modern stadium. Then I would feel like my work would be truly done. After 1,5 years in planning and 2 years of building, the new stadium was revealed… *drumroll* All I got was HALF a stadium *facepalm*

Yeah, it’s one of the 4 separate gigantic stand ones. I can’t even begin to describe my disappointment. It’s so frustrating to get a monstrosity like this after spending so many ingame years, countless amount of play hours and hundreds of million euros. I looked at forums and saw many other people suffered the same fate. The new “stadium” was so ugly and ridiculous it took all the fun and immersiveness out of the game.

I was frustrated, disappointed but didn’t lose entire hope. After a year the management decided to expand the stadium to 62000 capacity and I thought they will finally fill the gaps in the corners and make a normal stadium. Another year of construction wait and voila! Even bigger 4 stands with now three gigantic tiers on each of them lol

I mean what?? Who in their right minds would design, approve and build something like this? Remember we’re number one club in the world now with 5 star reputation with more than a billion euros in our account with hundreds of thousands of fans in the season ticket waiting list. Yet we build a 4 stand stadium like a small local club but only making the stands gigantic. If I got something decent and round that makes any sense I wouldn’t pity the amount of hours and days I spend for this. I think once we started new stadium plans the club wasn’t this big, we didn’t win CL and our reputation was probably 4 stars. That’s maybe why we also got disgusting wooden dressing room background also, but who in their right minds would build something so ridiculous and outdated for 350 million euros in the year 2030s??

I also can’t expand the stadium any further, it’s not an option anymore so unless there’s a way to edit stadium apperance via through an editor, I quit. I don’t know how to use the editor because I don’t like using editors to achieve things but this time I’m forced because of bad game design. Any help to turn this around is greatly appreciated…

We just have to cross our fingers that the next couple of years not only see stadia improvements but also more logic in relation to details like this. I agree, nobody builds that. In relation to the inability to expand further as I understand it clubs have a cap on possible matchday fans/attendance which I think is the way to go. I would like to see some visible indication of this though because I've had similar saves to yours in the past and been way more limited in terms of matchday attendance from clubs that you'd reasonably expect to have more upside.

That’s all I’m hoping for atm… I hope SI will finally make improvements on the non-football side of things. I understand that it’s not the manager’s job to decide on new stadiums or expansions but at least a club legend manager would be able to make some suggestions. I learned that FMRTE allows fixing this, but I really don’t want to pay 7€ just to fix this ridiculousness. I won’t use any other feature ever.

In total I worked around 5-6 seasons only for this, spent some hundreds of game time. Then I get this joke of a stadium. I’m so frustrated I’m done with this game. Here’s what I would suggest for FM24 if they read this:

1) Please delete 4 stand stadium templates for more than 40k stadiums. This is so ridiculous it takes the whole immersiveness out of the game.

2) If the club reputation grows the dressing room and other background graphics should also improve. We’re number one club in the world and new stadium dressing room looks no better than a local amateur club.

These details are important and they CAN break the game as they did for me. Some other guy may not care about this at all but I know football and simulator fans they CARE about such stuff.

I had the same issue with Portsmouth when they built Jimmy Dickinson Park, it was horrific. Four big stands, but it had strange curves on the edges.

Just need to play another 25+ seasons to get a 100k+ capacity Wembley replica.

It's funny how this stadium looks precisely like the current Genoa stadium (well, in broad strokes). it makes me think maybe the game built the new stadium in the same place the old one was standing.

I mean FM stadium art direction is rubbish but new build stadia with separate stands aren't that unusual. 

Seems an odd reaso  to quit, given that most of the stadiums are ugly from the start of the game anyway

Nope, the original stadium (Luigi Ferraris) still stands and Sampdoria keeps playing there. It’s true that the Luigi Ferraris doesn’t have seats on corners (there are walls) but I don’t think the game engine wanted to preserve legacy that way.

I’m not sure if these idiots at my club wouldn’t built another 100k+ skyscrapper stadium without corners after 25 years. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Well I won everything, 2 CL, 6 Serie A, 1 Europa League amony many other cups including Club World Cup with a club like Genoa. We’re number one in Europe in reputation. I feel like I beat the game. New stadium would be like an end-game reward and maybe it would inspire me to play 1-2 seasons more, but not in that ridiculous monstrosity no thanks no sir. I just can’t stand it. Because I’m the type of player who enjoys the story, drama and realism of it, this stadium took all the reality out.

My understanding from the situation is; if you want a top-tier stadium with the biggest capacity, best dressing room graphics, all round, you better don’t ask your board to build a stadium unless your club rating is 5-stars.

When I asked it we were I think 4 or 4,5 stars but we had won the Serie A a couple of times, we had almost a billion euros in our account, hundred thousand fans in waiting list, full capacity almost every game, so it made sense to build a new stadium anyway. Mainly to increase club rep and income. Of course I had no idea they will be so visionless and built a low-stature club stadium on steroids.

My tip for other players, if you want something decent worth building, make sure you won enough CL to become 5 star club first. If not there’s no way to make it better once it’s built and you’re stuck with it 25 years. 🤷‍♂️

Haha true, point taken. But it’s still not impossible, with extremely good management such a dynasty can be created. But nobody builds a stadium like that, that’s for sure.

Although FM22 I just had a new stadium built. I wasn't sure what to expect to be honest. I'm currently playing as SC Bonner in Germany. Like you I don't really use the editor but I did just to put this club in 3 liga (I wanted a challenge) and don't want to download a custom database with lower German leagues but at the same time I did look at what the stadium could expand to. Having gained promotion in the first very odd season, to my surprise bundesliga 2 had requirements meaning the stadium needed to be 15k capacity and have under soil heating. Sport park Nord only had about 11k and no undersold heating. I was expecting my board to just make the required improvements as when I looked in the editor it could expand to around 15 or 16k I think. Instead they rented the BayArena. After I'd stayed up and a new chairman was voted in he said wanted the club to return to Bonn and made plans to build a new stadium there. After a season of looking plans were made for a 15.4k stadium and a loan was taken out for 25M and building commenced for 2 seasons. Now I've just gained promotion to bundesliga for our first season in the new stadium. Played there for the first time last night in a friendly and yes, it was the four stands. My first thoughts were at least we might be able to expand into the corners one day. Lol. Seems that won't be happening. 😂

On a plus note I've gone from getting 3k attendance in first season to 5k in second, stayed steady and last season was getting around 7k as we were top for long periods until being overtaken after being beaten 2nd. They said they expected and up turn in attendance as fans would want to come to the new stadium. I wasnt expecting much maybe 9k. Already sold that in season tickets and they are expecting 14k to be sold. Interestingly the seating is only 11.4k but capacity is 15.4k. I expected it to be an all seater being new. With that being predicted the button in the bottom right corner has appeared to expand the stadium. I won't bother pushing my luck asking for that. Plus the club has very little money. I fully expect relegation as I have virtually no transfer budget but let's hope for another miracle 😁

For a lower league stadium with 15k capacity it makes sense to build it cornerless. But imagine having Camp Nou size stands on each side with absolutely nothing in between them except office buildings and hot dog vans lol that’s hilarious and that’s what I got.

My take from this apart from the obvious need to update the dour graphics is this game is far too easy. Hope they make next edition harder so you don't hear everyone taking lower league teams to champions League glory.
