Carambau
The Start Flashback: We are back in the summer of 2001. This time Sven Goran Eriksson was NOT appointed England manager, but South African Globetrotter Joe Baxter. He has a supposedly GOLDEN GENERATION to work with. Let´s see if he can do better than Sven. The game will be Championship Manager 01/02. Carambau
The Expectations In our Qualifying group, Germany are already 6 points ahead but we have a game in hand and there are still some games to play. We can still finish first, qualify automatically and avoid the playoffs. The next game will be against said Germans, in Berlin! After that we will have to home games against Albania and Greece. Our fate lies in our own hands. Edited January 26 by Carambau
Carambau
The Players With so many already excellent players and promising young talents -the so-called GOLDEN GENERATION- to choose from it would be a shame to fail with this team. Paul Scholes The perfect playmaker at the age of 26. David Beckham Still at Manchester United. He already is world class. Sol Campbell The Arsenal skipper is our rock in defense. Strong and solid. Lee Bowyer A physical monster and a hard worker. Michael Owen Already a star at the age of 21. John Terry Chelsea youngster on the rise. Frank Lampard Another great talent from Chelsea. Steven Gerrard Liverpool playmaker. Alan Smith Young striker from Leeds. Rio Ferdinand West Ham academy product. David Seaman Here lies our problem: The best English goalkeeper is 37 years old. It will take some time and much testing and scouting to find a decent English keeper who can replace him. For the time being, he will be called up I guess. git2thachoppa
Hello there. I played CM 01/02 for years, all the time. But I hate it now I know about its weird goalscoring attribute gimmick, which is why Man Utd could sign Henry and have him and Ruud up front and neither will score goals. Best of luck, you're gonna need it with that bunch of chokers!

Carambau
The Goalkeeper Situation I did a filter search for the eligible goalkeepers, highlighting the most useful attributes and this is what it all came down to: It looks like David Seaman is still the best English goalkeeper, despite his age of 37 Nigel Martyn is simply to old at 34 though. He is the past, not the future Despite having quite decent attributes, Neil Moss isn´t even the number one at Southampton where he is backup to Paul Jones Richard Wright ´s performances have earned him a move from Ipswich to Arsenal, where he will compete against David Seaman Time´s up for Tim Flowers as well at the age of 34 At Leicester, Ian Walker only plays second fiddle to the above mentioned Tim Flowers Andy Marshall joined Ipswich from Norwich to be the successor of Richard Wright Conclusion Havíng assessed all the candidates, I have come to the decision to call up David Seaman Richard Wright Andy Marshall for the upcoming matches against Germany and Albania. I guess this will be David Seaman´s last campaign with the England team. Richard Wright is the youngest keeper with an age of 23, while Andy Marshall is 26. But we are also monitoring the development of Christopher Kirkland, Stuart Taylor and especially Craig Holloway, who seems to be a fantastic talent at the age of 16. Carambau
September 1, 2001: The Showdown With Germany The time has come. We meet Germany in Berlin. Here are the lineups. We go with a rather attacking tactic. We have to win, so we must be brave. Spoiler Our plan worked well! We win in Berlin! A single goal, scored by Ashley Cole, secures our victory against the old rival! And Oliver Kahn was the Man Of The Match! Tells a lot about how good we were in this game. The stats show that we were the stronger team. If it wasn´t for Oliver Kahn, we would have won by a higher margin most probably. The FA was very pleased with the result. Next: The home game against Albania. Edited January 28 by Carambau
Carambau
September 5, 2001: The Home Game Against Albania We use the same attacking tactic against Albania. Lampard replaces Scholes, Hargreaves replaces Barmby and Smith replaces Cole. I thought I´d give the jaded players some rest. Spoiler This game was easy. We went into the lead very early through Alan Smith which benefitted us as Albania had to open up and then his strike partner Owen doubled our lead. Super Sub Scholes scored another one for the final score. Hargreaves scoops the Man Of The Match award this time. It was a good decision to play him instead of Barmby on the left. They had no shot on target at all. We dominated the match. So it all comes down to the game against Greece at home on October 6. git2thachoppa
Wow, impressive performance against Germany. My favourite run in this game was with Leeds, so I stand by Alan Smith. Speaking of which, what about Paul Robinson? Isn't he a decent English GK? 1 hour ago, LUFCspeni said: This is a little before my time, what was the gimmick? I can't even remember it exactly now, but I read it here not too long ago, can't find it now. There's some silly / hidden attribute that seems to solely affect goalscoring, like Vision or something. Carambau
October 6, 2001: The Final Game Against Greece The starting lineup now includes a finally fit Gary Neville as right back. Spoiler A convincing win. The red card surely helped but the important thing is - Germany only won 3-0 against Finland... ...which means we have qualified for the World Cup! Germany go to the playoffs. We were not the only ones to qualify on that day: Portugal, Belgium and Russia did the same. The result is clearer than it seems. Alan Smith once more had a great game. @git2thachoppaRobinson is part of the U21 England setup Edited January 28 by Carambau

Carambau
Pre-World Cup 2002 Phase #1 - World Cup Draw Brazil! A tough opponent but Paraguay and Tunisia seem beatable if we perform well. Those are all the qualified teams. The FA seem very modest with their expectations. Strangely though, they only arranged 2 friendlies to prepare for the World Cup, against Germany in March and against Spain in April. Carambau
World Cup 2002 Game 2 vs Tunisia Lampard replaces Scholes and Sutton replaces Smith. Carambau
World Cup 2002 Game 3 vs Paraguay Scholes is back in the team and so is Smith. Spoiler A crushing defeat. The red card did not help us. We dominated until the red card and then it all went downhill. There is only one player to blame for this defeat and his name is Lee Bowyer. Carambau
Post-World Cup Assessment In a boring final, Holland defeated France after penalties to win their first World Cup. Best Performers In The World Cup Steven Reid had a great game against Brazil, sadly he was injured in the 2nd game against Tunisia. He showed he can deliver on the big stage despite his young age. John Terry came into the first team after Rio Ferdinand was faltering and had 2 good games against Paraguay and Germany despite the defeats. Richard Wright played all games and has now officially become our new number one in goal. David Seaman has retired from international football due to his age. They still give me the chance to qualify for the EUROs though. Edited February 2 by Carambau
Carambau
EURO 2004 Qualifiers Four Games in and we have won all four of them. The first match of the qualifying campaign against Azerbaijan was the Chris Sutton show: He scored 4 goals and we were off to a great start. The next game seemed way harder as Austria just finished in 4th place at the recent World Cup. But that was not the case. This time it was Paul Scholes who scored a hattrick. Confidence was high after the first two games and so we thought we´d trash N. Ireland at home. But it turned out a very hard fought match. We had to work a lot and needed an Alan Smith brace to finally get away with 3 points. It turned out this was the right wake-up call because we literally trashed Malta in the next game. This looks good. But we have yet to play Denmark. This will happen next year. We only have one game left to play this year and this will be a friendly against EURO hosts Portugal in November. Carambau
EURO 2004 - The First 2 Games Group Match #1 A double strike by France sinks our boat. But our game was better than expected.
