Swiss down to level 5 with OFV region extended to level 7.

99% True to Life with high quality detail and rigorous testing.
Having made this league extension for years, should be optimized both for realism and gameplay.

Intended for a Liechtenstein save/challenge as makes all teams playable, but also can be used for any Swiss lower-league save (with credits below to a couple of excellent files I borrowed some advanced rules from)

 

  • Activates recently voted for "Scottish system" for Super League from 23 -24
    (Not sure if allowed to post links to other sites, but credit to dave on a German-language SI site for sharing his excellent file from which I borrowed the rules)
  • Swiss Cup has 100% correct qualification
  • Swiss Promotion League (level 3) activated with 100% real rules including player eligibility (including U21 teams), season periods, Swiss Cup qualification & realistic finances
  • Swiss First League Classic (level 4) activated with 100% real rules including play-offs, player eligibility (including U21 teams), season periods, Swiss Cup qualification & realistic finances
  • Swiss Second League Regional (level 5) activated with 90% real rules* including best runners-up, season periods & Swiss Cup qualification

    * This is where it becomes a Liechtenstein database as rather than shrink the 5 divisions to 4 as will happen in real-life (Feno's file built off dave's on the same German language site if you want the accurate structure (though doesn't have Swiss Cup qualification) credit to that other excellent file for helping me understand how to get best runners-up working and dealing with the change in structure), I've kept 5 and only activated relegation to the OFV region below, which is activated to the next 2 levels. This asymmetric database is to make all Liechtenstein teams playable (OFV is the East Swiss region, 1 of 13, to which the LFV teams are affiliated) in a 100% true to life structure (from 23-24) without having to create 100s of teams (and more importantly for gameplay speed, have them using processing time to process results/transfers)
     
  • OFV Regional 2 & 3 (6th & 7th tiers) with 100% real teams and 99% real rules* including promotion/relegation, regional championship, season periods & Swiss Cup qualification tournaments
    * Exception is the first season when the top 3 of each league get promoted to allow for league restructuring from 23-24 
  • Regional U18 divisions set up (so all playable teams have U18 matches)
  • Extra file with additional real Liechtenstein Under-17 squad players (too young to set up in the official database until next season- this should provide enough players to make the Liechtenstein Under 19 national team manageable)

Background to the Liechtenstein teams:

  • Vaduz
    The dominant Liechtenstein Club, perennial Cup winners (a record 48 times) and the only to have played in the Swiss top-flight (or indeed the top two tiers) as well as being the only professional outfit.
    Currently in the Challenge League (2nd level) and this season qualified for the Group Stage of European competition for the first time in the Conference League, where they were competitive despite bowing out with only 2 points.
    Squad is mostly foreign with 4 or 5 Liechtenstein players in the first-team squad, but with Vaduz representing all of Liechtenstein in the U18s, many of the Liechtenstein youth-players are attached.
    Vaduz 2 also play in the OFV 2 League (6th level).
    Play at the national stadium
     
  • USV Eschen/Mauren
    Semi-professional
    The second-best team in recent years, the last team to wrest the Cup from Vaduz in 2012, though only fourth in the all-time list with 5 titles in total.
    Currently in the First League Classic (4th tier) and have never played higher than this though have made the promotion play-offs a couple of time.
    USV 2 also play in the OFV 3 League (7th level)
    Stadium is used for the U-21 national team
     
  • Balzers
    Semi-professional
    Historically the second most successful with 11 Cups, but last in 1997.
    Currently in the 2 Liga Interregional (5th level) having been relegated last season. Never played higher than the First League Classic.
    Balzers 2 also play in the OFV 3 League (7th level)
     
  • Ruggell
    Amateur.
    Never won the Cup, though reached the final 7 times
    Currently in the OFV 3 League (7th level) having been relegated last season (though were top of the 6th level just two years before when the season was curtailed by the pandemic)
    Have the best training facilities as national team facilities are based in Ruggell.
     
  • Schaan
    Amateur.
    Won the Cup 3 teams, last in 1994
    Currently in the OFV 3 League (7th level), and spent a single season in the 2 Liga Regional ten years ago, before plummeting as low as the 8th level
     
  • Triesenberg
    Amateur.
    Never won the Cup, reaching the final for the first and only time so far in 2015.
    Currently in the OFV 3 League (7th level)
     
  • Triesen
    Amateur.
    If there's such a thing as a sleeping giant in Liechtenstein, it's Triesen who dominated the early years of the Cup in the last century.
    Still third in the all-time list with 8 titles, though none since 1975 (which was the last-time they reached the final)
    Currently in the OFV 3 League (7th level)

I believe the only way Vaduz can get to Europe is through the LIechtenstein Cup.  The winner of the Cup goes into the Euro II.  If you win the Euro II then you go to the Europa League.  Win that and you go to the Champions League.  So, yes it is possible, but it is difficult.  I'm trying to do it now as Balzers on FM22, but it's a tough road.

That is correct, I did that in FM20. I started with Schaan in 7th tier and ended up being in 3 CL finals (only winning 1)

Only the Liechtenstein U17 players in the additional file.
But the Swiss research team have done a good job with the database this year, most 2LR teams have full squads and the OFV teams mostly have at least a few players (apart from the brand new teams I had to create in the database)

(yeah one of the reasons I made it was so II teams get proper fixtures- also find they get jaded as play top many games if in II teams in unplayable leagues)

Maybe if I have time, but problem is one of the teams in the 3rd level has gone bust, so will need to tweak the rules quite a lot to account for one less team

A possibile solution / workaround could be to re-put Chiasso in the promotion league (not sure if the club still exist in the db) and give them something like a -90 points deduction or similar, so the will be relegated for sure... not sure if that's possible though.

I did take a look in the db and I'm not sure if Chiasso is still there; in "real life" their future is still unclear - first league, second, merge with other club(s), start from 0 .. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I unflagged Chiasso as extinct and then added them back to the Promotion League and everything verified correctly for 23.3. I'm currently on holiday and the first two seasons have passed without any problems.  FYI, Chiasso was relegated in the first season, finishing last in the Promotion Division.

That's a good shout- have done that and uploaded for the latest 23.4 update

(There is a points deduction option in the database, but doesn't seem to apply in game- probably I've got a setting slightly wrong. I might see if I can fix this later but Chiasso should get relegated most of the time anyway as they don't start with any players FIXED)

Probably me being an idiot. But I notice that the vanilla version of FM already had the new style league format for the following season. I've also noticed some discrepancies between the European qualifying parts.

A) This DB - why are only the 3rd and 5th positions dependent on the winner of the cup, but not 4th?

I'm also confused for both as to why multiple spots depend on the winner of the cup rather than just one? :D

To me it seems like the league did end up on two different league coefficiency places in your simulations. In the first screenshot the champion ends up in the 3rd qualifying stage whereas in the second it's a direct CL qualification.

I'm not entirely sure how the cup dependency works, but if that's the case it wouldn't be comparable.

It sounds like something at your end and shouldn't suddenly change overnight without a version update.
Did you install other editor files? they might be confllcting

Yep that's it, just ended up with Swiss coefficient being different between the two games, which determines how many teams qualify for Europe and how may for each of the three competitions.

Assuming the coefficient is high enough to get a Europe League place, the Cup winners will get, unless they have already qualified for the Champions League, in which case the highest league team not qualifying for the Champions League gets Europe League instead of Conference League

Have you set the European qualifiers in your file, or is that the game selecting them?

Sorry for late reply- no, besides being a lot of work I heard this prevents changes in league structure working from one season to another ( as there was between 22/23 & 23/24)

FM24 round the corner, I plan to release an updated file for that

I didn't - what the OP was referring to was change in coefficients from one season to another (probably misunderstanding how it works IRL)

Hi @JBZ, thanks for your work on the databases over the years.

Looking to start my Lietch save when the database is out, do you have a rough estimate when you expect it to be released? Not chasing but just want to know how invested I should get in a save I'm starting now if it will be soon out haha!

No, I thought about it but below the Second League it is set up asymmetrically similar to last year, with only relegation to the OFV activated anyway so not 100% true to life below the 5th tier.

that's sad. the only little thing to make lower leagues perfect, at least down to 2nd league interregional ;)

Maybe, but the intention of the database at the lower levels is more to play as one of the Liechtenstein teams
(Can of course be used for Swiss teams too, but not below 2nd league interregional- I played with setting up more expanded 2.Liga Regional & 3.Liga Regional in previous FM versions, but just wasn't worth the database effort plus found detrimental to gameplay having so many weak teams setup)

Unless you've got a conflicting file, probably you didn't select the divisions to be down to tier 7 when you started the game.

It defaults to Challenge League and above, you need to select the level you want to go down to before starting a new game.
