How to improve this 343

Recommended Posts

I have started a save with Spurs and decided to go with 343 as this is the one I see fitting best based on the players at the club.

Below is my current tactic that I use against most opponents. I must say I haven't really played against big 6 but against other teams I am struggling to create chances on regular basis.

Because I am playing at a high mentality, all of my midfielders and attackers are on support duty. My wingbacks though not excellent at dribbling and crossing, possess good pace, stamina and work rate and that means they are able to support the attack and come back to defend.

Attacking mentality also means my defenders are at balanced mentality and look to bring the ball up the field in search of attackers.

My challenge is I hardly create more than one chance per game and I think that might be because there aren't players attacking the opponent's defensive line aggressively. Is my analysis correct? What changes could I make to personnel, roles or TI that could improve this tactic in regard to creating consistent chances?

I would suggest that you have no one trying to get beyond Kane consistently enough to get into scoring positions.  For Spurs the player who does that most often IRL is Son, give him an attack duty and you will carry more threat, you might want to give Bentacur a hold position PI to reduce vulnerability down that side.  I would suggest that you also need a threat from central so I would consider giving Bissouma either a get further forward PI or even an attack duty, you may need to drop Emerson royal's duty to support with the latter, but with 3 ATB and Bentacur holding you might be ok.

Alternatively, you could make Kulusevki a Treq (if he has the attributes, can't remember).  He would still be creative, but would carry a bit more of a goal threat as well.  You could potentially combine this with dropping Royal to support and giving Bissouma a get further forward PI, but I haven't tried this sort of thing in FM23 yet so it would be a case of test it and find out what works best.

Seems to be really hard to get a back 3 working in FM23 without leaking a ton of goals, specially late in the games.

I've tried a lot with Chelsea as a blueprint but no success at all.

I agree. I play touch on switch with Inter Milan and AI is just bad and limited so it's pointless no matter what I do to minimize conceding. AI will behave strangely like either they're mannequins or tornadoes that'll run at everyone who has the ball even tho I already ask them to mark specific opponent. Not to mention they're always late against long balls targeted at behind them and through balls. Even worse sometimes they just stop chasing. Meanwhile opponents AI is ridiculous harder this year like SI tweaked their attributes x2 especially away games.

Maybe it's just FM touch thing. Anyways, 3 ATB has always been bad in this game. Better focus on scoring instead

Thanks guys for your inputs.

I share the same feeling that back three systems are challenging to set-up in this version and below is what I have currently settled with. it is asymmetric but on the match engine looks pretty much like a 343.

I am happy with the roles and duties within the formation but still not convinced about the mentality and TI's. I am going to play some more matches before I touch them.

Happy to hear your thoughts on the current version.
