FM23 - In match stadiums?

Recommended Posts

Hello wonderful community.

I was wondering if I could get some input on the status of the stadia in the match engine?

Has there been improvements / more variation then FM22?
I really hope it has, since I found LLM managment specifically last year was all played at the same ground.

Is there variations between regions/continents? I ask this because I am planning a global journey, and I haven't done this in some years.

I'm currently at 100 minutes played in Steam and would really like some input here, since I am on the fence about refunding.

Exactly the same as FM22.  One thing I've noticed is there appears to be less colour in them.  Previously parts of the stadium such as the frame of the roof and the player tunnel would have the team colour but now is always monochrome.  Not sure if this is intentional or not.  Although the ability to turn the pre game editor into a stadium editor is still there so I'm happy.

Really? Can you explain this please? I'd love to be able to create my amateur village team's "stadium" into a field, as I could in earlier incarnations of FM.

Damn, that last post was intriguing. I don't have the confidence to mess with the Resource Archiver, and it doesn't seem to reproduce standless fields, but interesting anyway, cheers.

It doesn't work . I found it a few years ago but its very flawed . You can't build a stadium or really modify it .

I thank you for your important input. A lack of immersion, and specially a lack of variation between stadia on different continents just makes a journeyman-save to dull to suffer.

Making different regional stadiums should be a bare minimum. I feel this is just lazy on the developers part.

I refunded the game. I've.. never done that with an FM edition, so well done SI? Sarcastic clapping and such

It's really a very simple 30 seconds job.  I don't see any reason why you're shouldn't be able to make a standless stadium, though you might have to make the capacity 0.  I'm away from my pc now but I'll have an experiment later.

It's limited but it definitely does work.

This kind of comment saddens me.  I get why your put off but I'm really excited to get stuck into FM23.  Even if it's not got everything in it the way I'd want it.

I've moaned about this as well. How hard can it be to throw a couple of real stadiums in there and just allow a stadium designer tool to be used? The community would then rabidly do the hard work for them and you'd have stadium megapacks making the game far better, like happens with the facepacks and logos etc now, without any licensing concerns. I really don't understand why this isn't happening? I think it would make an amazing difference to the immersion of the game if the stadiums were accurate and they gave the graphics a bump. It's something they definitely need to have for FM24.

This, a thousand times this. Give the community the tools and the outcome would be great, not only for players but for the company as well. I am sure it would attract more people to see realistic stadiums in the gameplays, as it does with the facepacks or skins.

Wow, those stadiums look so much better. Although I'm not sure if it's my laptop. I am on 'high' I think for graphics, but the pitches are pretty much uniform green, like they're artificial pitches. The graphics don't have to be FIFA quality, just atmospheric and more representative of what it really looks like.

They are uniform green now, yes. I also can't understand why that was downgraded and why it hasn't been improved in 6 years.

Staggering isn't it. I'm guessing it's been caused by the lowest common denomenator problem again, i.e that the analytics tell SI that the majority of players are on low end machines, therefore upgrading stuff like the graphics and the stadium models and the pitches would eliminate too many of those players from the minimum specs. I was laughing at one of my games earlier on FM22, it's meant to be either frosty or snowy, but the pitch looks like someone has drawn the effect on with MS Paint.

Because the graphics engine was totally overhauled in FM18, a new graphics company took over or something.

Clearly the changes were not for the better. It all falls on deaf ears though, as does the request for a proper stadium editor. Almost everything else is fully moddable, why not this, which would improve the immersion 100%?

Yep! A stadium editor would be a genuine headline feature, and one of the biggest things they could of added to the game…ever.

Good to see I'm not alone in this desire, I did think there used to be more variations before - and thank you for reminding me it was FM17.

Made a request for it on the request section (here), I'll reference this post for the pictures and the fact that it actually used to be a lot better!

Yeah I took my Peterborough United team to nearby Whittlesey (my home town) for a friendly, the game was played in a stadium that looked like it would hold at least 5,000 fans. In reality Whittlesey play on a field.

It’s a total immersion killer. Even lower league teams that have 2000-3000 terrace grounds with hardly any seating have huge, towering stands in this game with row after row of standing space. Just doesn’t make any sense.

Not to mention when played in those giant stadiums with an attendance of 300, the stadium is nothing but empty seats ruining the atmosphere of LLM.

Those stadium screenshots blew my mind. Wtf are you doing SI. How have we actually regressed so much??!

As a result of the introduction of 3D face models, I believe stadiums and new gens have taken a different direction. Unless I am mistaken, FM18 marked the beginning of the new 3d models. Retrospectively, I think it was intended to implement manager models that aren't even present in the game. At the very least, you would expect them to display the manager models during press conferences, but they have not done so.

Maybe there is a 10 year plan that we dont know about (lack of communication) and it will all pay off when we all move on to a different game lol.

I've given Loch Ness a standless stadium (if that's who you're playing with).   I had to change the capacity to 0 for it to work, although in game it sets it as 4375.  It's a shame you can't change the scenery to look more Scottish highlands.3.thumb.PNG.e4a1f649bf703166d0da25b4e59beec7.PNG

In this thread, there are some examples of the best stadiums for FM21, but I'll be surprised in they are still not exactly the same in FM23 so probably this is still usable. In some of them you can see hills and trees in the surroundings. I just let it here in case somebody wants to check how those stadiums are defined in the editor and try to replicate and get a less industrial standless/near standless stadium for your team. Oh and if you can do it, please share :D

Of course, anyone else wanting a 'stadiumless' ground can use the file, not just for Loch Ness!

The file is just for Loch Ness, if you want a different stadium you need to change it in the editor.

somebody knows if similar modifications are still a possibility?

Yes this still works.  You need to use the resource archiver to unpack "simatchviewer".  Then the files to edit are in "art/environments/stadiums"

A stadium editor would be a headline feature worthy of the name "headline feature!  Heck, SI could even release it as a paid for DLC and it'd still be massively popular imo.  But failing that, the very least they could do is give us back the wealth of different stadiums we had back in Fm17.  After 17 they replaced them all with the garbage looking generic ones we've had for the past 6 years.

Every time this kind of topic comes up, I'll continue to post screenshots of what we once had... for nostalgia. and to show new players to FM (and SI) how great this game once looked and how a growing number of players wish it'd look like again someday..

A small selection of FM17 Stadiums in all their glory.  Please bring them back SI, ... we've been waiting 6 years now.

Those are all standard - that's why the FM17 to 18 shift was such a step down.  Also notice the variation in lighting direction - that's gone too - reduced to short shadow from left; long shadow from top and spotlight.

You probably all already know this, but you can edit stadiums in your current save via FMRTE. Still very basic, but at least you can fill in corners or remove stands/roofs.

Completely unrelated, but nice to see you managing the club I support in real life. I hope Dale Carrick is treating you well. :D

I usually start my journeyman saves in the Scottish League 2.  First time with Stirling though - very enjoyable so far!

I still play FM17 even though I bought 18,19, and 20.  I always go back to 17 as its the only version where I can get immersed in a journmeyman save around the world and in the lower leagues, because as mentioned, those stadiums in the screenshots are the standard ones that came with FM17.  There are dozens of different varieties and each country has distinct cultural aesthetics too, so managing in different leagues around the world is way more immersive.  Lower league management is much more immersive too.  Grass roots clubs often play on a field with just a wall, or fence surrounding the pitch, for example.

The graphics, lighting, stadiums, and wealth of stadium variety from FM12 to FM17 are outstanding. Then FM18 happening and it all became generic and very bland.  No more immersion with lower league management or managing abroad, everywhere looked pretty much the same and the pitch textures and lighting became dreadful to look at (imo).

Looking at YT vids of FM23, I think the on field match graphics have improved since FM18, but the stadiums are still the big let down for me.  A proper stadium editor would be worth the money alone at this point.

Completely agree that it would be nice to see more realistic stadiums and a wider array of them, my best guess is that there are potentially wider implications around duplicating the appearance of stadiums as opposed to a lack of willingness or desire to incorporate them.
