Player development - Loan or not

I’ve signed Endrick, and some other ‘wonder kids’ - as a top premier league club with the best facilities and coaches is it generally better to keep wonderkids at the club even if they only play a handful of games in a season, OR better to loan them out?

It depends. If they are very young, 15-17 keep them at your club and train and develop them on double intensity, focusing on their weakest stats that are important for their role. If they are 18+ and not getting gametime you really need to loan them out, but choose the club with the best facilities and insist on a loan deal which specifies they will start regularly and hammer the other teams manager if that doesn't happen. Nothing causes a player to waste away more than loaning him out to a club with lesser facilities who don't play him.

If your players are overseas players who require a work permit, again loan them out or you'll struggle to get them a work permit on renewal. I've been stung by that a few times, signed foreign youngsters, developed them and about to bring them into the first team, only for them to have their work permit rejected when I renewed their contract.

I don't think there is a "correct" answer, just as there isn't a "correct" answer in real life.

My rule is if they're age appropriate for U18/U19, I keep them there.

If I have a reserve team, it depends on performance. If they're dominating on my reserve team and I don't have a slot to move them up into 1st team consistently, I try to loan. Or if I'm overloaded at a slot, I loan out.

Also a case-by-case. If I try to move someone but only lowly clubs want them, I keep them around. If I think a player is developing but then a solid club in my tier or tier below with good facilities proactively offers to take them on loan with strong playing time promised, then they're gone.

I keep young players in house till they are home grown, then will loan them out to a league 1 level below the one that I am playing in, as long as they get regular starter status.  I do not entertain a squad status below regular starter as I cant see the point if they are not getting regular games.
