Ive been thinking of doing an Argentinian league with the ambition of developing youth and selling to europe. I had been thinking River Plate or Boca.

It would be great to expand this thread to encompass all of Argentina

Great idea, just changed the title!

Club Atletico Boca Juniors

Update 1

The preseason was a mixed bag while the players adapted to a passing possession based style which seemed to suit the type of players we had in the squad. I needed to get used to the players and find out the strengths and weaknesses of the team.

I decided against buying anyone in the transfer window and this will be the plan going forward. If we need any replacements because of injuries or players moving on, I will look into the youth team before going into the transfer market.

image.png.b27e383ee9194e19f06f1cee05af2325.png

The players adapted very quickly and going into the first meaningful game of the season which was the Argentine SuperCup against River. We were the underdogs going into the game and controlled the game from the first whistle with 69% of the possession and scored after 7 minutes. We created 21 shots against Rivers 6 but they scored on the 72nd minute which took the game to penalties. We scored all our penalties and won the shoot out 8-7 and secured the first trophy under my leadership.

image.png.2d8552d25f606ec4a3c5403338655049.png

We took a massive hit early into the League Cup (If you are new to Argentina football, you play the League Cup which is a group format going into a knock out stage before the League starts) and our star striker who we based our team around picked up a long term injury.

@Ncfc_king A very promising start there. Shame that Benedetto is injured though, he was ex Marseille wasnt he?

Looking to start my save today and ive got some teams in mind so will be interesting to compare progress. I think Im going to go for Independiente but there will be a lot of getting to know the squad and settling on a tactic in a short space of time.

The league structure looks hectic too with a league cup season (?? unusual??) and then a 27 game league season to follow. So could be very interesting!

Modest expectations for the season ahead, from board and fans alike.

A quick look through the squad shows there is some potential in the group, with some older experienced heads and some good young prospects that need to be given game time and nurturing.

Into pre-season ahead of the league cup, and it looks like the tactic could be a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 variation. As you would expect, there is an imbalance in areas of the squad so getting the right blend together will be tricky at first.

Much will depend this season on what looks like "the trinity" in the attacking midfield/forward positions, made of Juan Roman Zarza, Juan Cazares, and Tomas Pozzo. Zarza and Pozzo in particular are youngsters who look to have good potential:

A quick scan through the development team shows me a potential youngster I am very excited to work with, who at the age of just SIXTEEN looks like he is already knocking on the door of the first team. Santiago Hidalgo. (Profile pic to follow).

Should be an enjoyable save, my first trip into Argentina, much work to do, much to learn.

Club Atletico Independiente - Half Term Report

(Man, theres a LOT of games to play!!)

Pre Season & Early Season - A Tough Start As We Find Our Tactical Style

Pre reason featured a number of games against lower league opposition, which wasnt ideal except for building confidence and bagging goals. Settling on a playing style was initially difficult, especially away from home, but given the profile of player at our disposal and their levels of physicality, we have made strides to implement a solid possession based 4-2-3-1 with Lucas Romero and Ivan Marcone acting as a double pivot and utilising the creative flair of a Trequartista.

Argentinian League Cup - Form At Ricardo Enrique Bochini Lays The Platform For Unexpected Early Silverware

Winning every home game along the way except a defeat to River Plate, a fantastic run through the group stage to the final included impressive wins over Racing Club, Velez Sarsfield and San Lorenzo led to a big final appearance vs Banfield.

The 2-1 final scoreline perhaps flattered Banfield, as we delivered an accomplished performance with and without the ball, led by the superb Leandro Fernandez up front to bring the trophy home.

And not only that, but the competition had been an ideal testing ground to give minutes to some of our promising youngsters, some of which are attracting attention from elsewhere (as we will see later).

Copa Sudamericana - Serene Progress And Minutes For Youngsters

The competition has been kind to us so far, and has given us our biggest win to date, an unexpected 8-0 win away at River Plate de Montevideo of Uruguay. It was in this win that two of our brightest young prospects, Santiago Hidalgo and Julian Romero both featured and laid down a real marker for a first team place, Hidalgo netting four times and Romero playing as an auxiliary right winger providing a goal and an assist. A two legged knockout tie awaits.

The Key Men - The Established First Team Players

SEBASTIAN SOSA - GOALKEEPER

A string of clean sheets, excellent organisation and calming presence behind the back four, and a mountain on 1 v 1 situations, Sosa is the undisputed number one at the club and one of the very best in the league.

338501039_SOSAKEEPERFIRST.thumb.png.94e1df774d37ccd5048c3c0500b796b9.png

SERGIO BARETO - CENTRE BACK

Bareto has been the key man within the back four. Wins a lot of aerial duels and always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Mr dependable at the back.

140743222_BARETOFIRSTTEAM.thumb.png.81706e02a9b423eae4ad14f3a7e627fd.png

IVAN MARCONE - CENTRAL MIDFIELDER

Keeps things ticking over beautifully. Always offering an angle for a pass, and rarely giving the ball away. Defensive positioning usually top notch.

1335683310_MARCONEMIDFIELDFIRST.thumb.png.0c2a19a968b9bf902a1529069e57cf46.png

LEANDRO FERNANDEZ - STRIKER

Instrumental in the run to the league cup triumph, with 17 goals in all competitions, Fernandez has been an all action front man who has been a constant thorn in the opposition side. Loves to latch onto a through ball in the same way a prime Jamie Vardy would, whilst displaying quality moving the ball to the wide men when coming short

The Big Hopes

"EL MATADOR" SANTI HIDALGO - STRIKER

Santi Hidalgo announced himself in a big way to the Diabolos Rojos faithful in the Copa Sudamericana, combining a quick off the mark acceleration, an excellent first touch, and a lethal eye for goal. Attracting interest from Spain, Hidalgo has just signed a new contract removing his minimum fee release clause and will be a central part of the team for years to come

1209942526_SANTIHIDALGOYOUNGSTER.thumb.png.bc0e4eac1dc6c1c2c2cffc25d8579cdc.png

"EL FANTASMA" - JULIAN ROMERO - FORWARD/RIGHT WING

Having already been the subject of a big bid from Manchester United, the diminutive Julian Romero can play as a forward, or as an inverted right winger where his dribbling ability has already been showcased. Lively off the ball, with an uncanny ability to ghost past his opponent as a fantasma.

"EL GENERAL" - AXEL POZA - CENTRE BACK

A future club captain, Poza has not had his first team break yet, but has put in a string of impressive development team performances, and most certainly one to watch in the future

Looking like a great start for you. Have you had any tempting offers yet?

I started to run out of steam at the end of the League Cup and got knocked out in the semis but will do an update post either tonight or tomorrow.

Man Utd put a £6 million bid in for Julian Romero, and I really dont want to sell him YET, as I think he will be a big star.

There have also been smaller offers, but with high sell on clauses, up to 40%, Spurs and Arsenal made offers like that.

Hes kicking off that he wants to go and its partly my fault as i didnt tie him down to a bigger contract in the same way I did with some of the other youngsters, but I can use the money to reinvest in the team.

I have very little wage budget which is proving problematic.

Love this thread, specifacally enjoy reading about @Lesterfan_Cambiassoand his exploits. Hidalgo looks a player, definetly one i'll be checking out on my own saves, you should keep us updated on his development even when he leaves!

I'm thinking of doing a player recommendation thread for South America and i can pretty much guarantee my first player to watch out for is "EL MATADOR"!

Keep up the good work gents.

Update 2- Club Boca

League Cup

We have kicked off our campaign in the League Cup in spectacular fashion with 7 wins out of 7 with 18 goals scored and 2 goals conceded. This was until we started playing in the Copa Libertadores, and I noticed how weak my squad is. We only got 1 point away at Banfield and Defensa y Justicia and lost against Atl. Tucuman and Huracan. The loss against Atl. Tucuman was costly and we finished second behind them at the end of the group stage.

image.png.c5773b420680d62fea0ca0f4dbfb270d.png

We got knocked out of the quarter finals against Velez in what was a very lacklustre performance in which Velez played with 10 men since the 47th minute.

Copa Libertadores

We were struggling in the League Cup but our performances in the Copa Libertadores were like chalk and cheese compared to the League Cup. We got drawn against ATM, Barcelona SC and Cristal and we won 6 out of 6 and finished top of the group.

image.png.185853246eb198e845e15bb98e37387d.png

We have been drawn out against Corinthians in the Quater finals and based on our current form in the league, I expect us to take a beating.

Key Youth prospects

We have a few players that are turning in good performances and key to how we play, when we lost Dario Benedetto I was expecting us to struggle in front of goal, but Luis Vazquez stepped up and scored 10 goals in 12 appearances in the League Cup and 4 goals in 7 in the Copa Libertadores.

image.png.2e2ab824d36c4820df55722eed71e41f.png

We also have a midfield 3 of Alan Varela, Agustin Almendra and Cristian Medina and when these 3 are fit and playing together, can dominate any game but we have struggled to get all 3 on the pitch together due to injuries.

Agustin Almendea has requested to leave on a free when his contract is over, and im trying my best to try and tie him down but that's looking unlikely at the moment.

I've been eyeing Agustin up for a bosman move to my Bordeaux side, do you think he has enough to make the move to Europe?

At 22 he looks to still have room to improve, what kind of role do you use him in?

He currently plays in the roaming playmaker role in a midfield 3. He is very in and out of form, if you can get him on a free and low wages then it's a no brainer.

I have started to push him out a little more and moved him to the bench while I have a look at other players.

If you can get Alan Valera (probably be around £5 million) he's the one, I would go for.

Noted.

Valera looks very good, not sure what i'll have to work with in season 2 so could be out my price range but he's definitely one of this years SA gems.

Started a save with Ferro Carril Oeste, club located in the citys centre, having one of the oldest still-used stadiums in South America. First impression is that you dont need to spend a lot for transfers, many talented youngsters are in the squad already. Im pushing for promotion from crazy Primera Nacional (2nd tier) consisted of 36 teams. Some players like Roman , Pulicastro and Nunez to be tested in any later european save.
Hell of a league, lot of derbies and not too much money in it.
Soy de Caballito, vago y atorrante..

End of 2nd season with Verdolago. Promoted to Primera season ago, now finished 4th and gained Libertadores group stage. Could be a runner-up, but lost soundly to Belgrano in the last league week. Roman went to Verona for a club-record fee of 5,75 mln, finances insecure anyway.

Would you say that you have to load the big leagues in Europe to get more clubs interested and paying better for your players? I played with Velez in FM21 and had really big problems with selling players because a few european clubs were interested despite greats talents.

It definitely tends to help. I usually go with England, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. The Netherlands if you can afford it. Austria isn't a bad shout either, because of how predatory the Red Bull empire is. Really good option outside of Europe is Mexico.

End of the 3rd season. Despite beating Boca and Talleres, finished 3rd thanks to the poor showing away from home vs lowly teams (Defensa y Justicia, Gimnasia de Mendoza). Lost Libertadores final, conceding the equaliser in the 96 th min, then in the extra time. Finances look better thanks to the Copa Libertadores involvement and players sales. The board is very reluctant to improve any facilities, however they ve agreed to expand the stadium from 12 to 14 k. Tickets prices are way lower which is nice in terms of realism and really divert the financial politics to player outflow. Got major leagues loaded (including MLS and Mexico), as always. Shortly about the players- signed some well-known uruguayans -Diaz and Borbas (Diaz for a record fee -5,25 mln in installments, Borbas as a freebie), but default Ferro players still feature in the squad  (7 of them featured in Libertadores final first eleven), ones like GK Insua, AMR Ayala, DL Penapil were in the reserves or u20 squad. Pulicastro as a GOAT, already a legend.
