In my experience with fm22, Poland is quite a specific country when it comes to foreign newgen. You have to be prepared that in a club such one will appear once every 2-3 seasons. Juniors from foreign subsidiary clubs start coming only after a good performance in European cups where you have to get to the group stage at least once. I know that many here uniform nationalities get in the way of having fun. Here in Poland there won't be much of that for sure, but if you hit it and with a good PA it will be a gem in your eye

When it comes down to it, it seems to me that Polonia probably has the biggest reputation of the teams mentioned, next to Znicz Pruszków. So here it seems to me the strongest candidates for a good start are definitely Polonia, Motor from this angle. If you care about good facilities from the start then Kotwica and Radunia. Znicz is for people who want a chance to have good juniors from the beginning their good base potential from this angle is very important. 

Going back to the experience Polonia always in my savs tries to attract players with French roots sometimes even generate such for sure it is an interesting feature for Polish conditions. Siarka, on the other hand, always had some strange juniors from Guinea or Swaziland I don't know where they get them from

Italy seems to be near impossible to complete this challenge in but it's my favourite football country so I have to try it once again. This time with the mighty Grosseto who actually played a few seasons in serie B some years ago.

Season 2023

What a fantastic season it was! We finished 2nd, after a long battle for the title with Oskarshamns AIK. We lost our last 2 matches of the season, otherwise we would have became champions. But we did qualify for the playoffs. We first played in a group, together with BK Forward and Team TG FF. We draw 1-1 against BK Forward at home. BK Forward won their match against Team TG FF with 5-0, so I thought our chances were over. But we won our match against them with 0-6!!! So we qualified for the final, against BK Astrio. We won 3-1 at home and draw 1-1 away. So we are going up!!

We also managed to upgrade our Junior Coaching and Youth Recruitment twice.

Sometimes this challenge just hits right.  Messing around with tactics and formations in the horrendously long Swedish preseason and needed a 2nd striker.  Plugged in a youth, he played well so I stuck with him.

2026/27 Midseason Review:

Not going great. Which means the second half will catch fire and finish 11th. I have one player retiring and two older fringe players with ridiculous contract demands for what they give, so they've been transfer listed. One has already moved on. As a result I'm forcing the youth player issue a little more than planned. The big issues are underperforming our xG for goals by 4 and giving up a whopping 15 more than xG expected. I think I've talked myself here into not pulling out of this nose dive. Survival may be difficult.

Intake Preview:

Very promising. Just hoping for at least one player capable to stepping in and playing.

Season 2 - 2024/25

National League North - 19th

 

Very similar season to last year; just outside the play-offs after 20 games, then a collapse for the next 20 leaving us fighting relegation. We're now -£200k in the red, because apparently in this game lower league clubs can't manage their finances. Our income keeps dropping and our reputation actually decreased meaning our pittance of a sponsorship also went down. Our players don't improve at all, so even 5*PA youngsters aren't developing.

This is really hard, and I'm not enjoying it. Mainly because I genuinely don't see a way out. Unless I accept a period of massive austerity and cut ALL staff expenditure to try and turn a minor profit.

 

Has anyone else ever had any success at this level with a club with the worst facilities you can get? I don't know how we're ever going to build a team capable of getting promotion.

Since @Sn00gle created a big list for Poland, I thought I could do the same for Norway, so here are a few clubs I think could be interesting to play in this challenge.

Lyn Toppfotball - A bit of a fallen giant of sorts. They went bankrupt in 2010 and folded before they were reforged at a lower level and has slowly worked their way up. They've struggled to take the last few steps up into the realm they think they should belong at.

Follo Fotballklubb - They might not be that interesting to everyone, but they are my local team, and I've tried this challenge with them several times, never finishing it. An interesting tidbit about them is that they reached the final of the Norwegian cup back in 2010, beating teams like Lillestrøm and Rosenborg to get there. They were, and are, a part time club, so if they had beaten Strømsgodset in the final they would have entered the Europa League while going down into the 3rd tier, as they go relegated from the 2nd tier the same season.

Eik Tønsberg - Fallen giant is a bit over an overstatement, but the club was a regular top team back in the day, only finishing 2nd as their highest place in the top tier. They are also from Tønsberg, the 10th biggest city in Norway, and the biggest without a top tier team!

Fotballklubben Senja - A club located far to the north of Norway, and on Norways biggest island Senja. I could have mentioned any of the teams from the far north, but I think the fact that they are located on the biggest island in Norway makes them stand out a bit extra.

There, those are the teams that stand out most to me as possible teams for the first season in Norway. No foreign investors or anything like that here, as all sporting institutions in Norway are owned by their members and the boards are elected, so no sugar daddies to be found here.

Guiseily has been a great return to England for me, not sure how rare it is to get them promoted as I haven't noticed them showing up in anyone elses saves.

Thinking back on my RAAL save I did get first year promotion as well as the board would inject 1.5-3 M a season to keep the club out of bankruptcy till I could start monetizing youngsters. Eventually I just couldn't break into European spots as I had to keep selling everyone to balance the books. You all talk about ground maintenance at the start and IRC we had to add undersoil heating to our stadium which was the huge early expense. 

I really hope they address this instead of letting it persist for another cycle.

That's the problem, I thought I knew before FM 23, but now I'm starting to wonder what country I want to do. It's probably between Slovakia, Poland, Israel, Turkey and Mexico. I did one half of the challenge in Serbia last year with OFK Beograd, I've finished 3rd in Serie A in FM 21, while I got to the Liga NOS in Portugal in FM 22. I'm starting to think I want to take a side from the lower coefficients and build them up from there, which could also be someone like Indonesia.

Futebol Clube Barreirense is a classic Portuguese fallen on hard times. Founded all the way back in 1911 in Barreiro, an industrial town 6 km away from Lisbon (which is to mean, on the other side of the river). To this day, they are the 15th team with the most appearances at the top level in Portugal, having played in it for 24 years, their highest position ever being a 4th place in 1969/70, and they also reached the semi-finals of the Portuguese Cup 5 times, the last time in 1957/58. Considering they just got promoted from the 5th tier to the 4th tier, you can tell they're far far away from where they used to be.

FC Barreiro play at the  Campo da Verderena, a small 2480 (1500 steated) stadium, where in real life the team has plans to build much modern stadium in the same area, which most likely is not on the game. We have average training facilities, below average youth facilities and average academy coaching and youth recruitment.  

I have yet to take a good look at the team, but with 2000-1 odds of going up, we're certainly not favourites. We play in Série D of the Campeonato de Portugal, with teams like Louletano and Moncaparachense are the clear favourites. In my next post, I will look at our current squad and staff.

Indonesia is out there, would make for a very different experience! I tried isreal last cycle, but it didn't click for me. Slovenia was the big save for me with 2 Euro Cup titles, could see Slovakia as even better with more challenging domestic competition. 

I can already tell I'm going to take pauses from england once workshop databases come out. I forgot the true slog of 46 league games plus cups. Planning to try luxembourg 🇱🇺 for a micro nation. I visited for the first time last month as my girlfriend is getting dual citizenship there. Such pretty countryside.

Season Summary

Back in Spain! I'd forgotten how difficult Marbella actually was and all the same problems are still there this time around

1. The squad is too small and too old!

2. The wages are ridiculous. 40k a week for a tier 4 side is obscene! 5 players are earning over 4k a week!!!

3. Finances are a binfire. Losing around £1.4m a season, which is almost Belgium level craziness. Boulogne had something similar and it definitely makes the challenge a little more difficult.

Luckily the level of Spanish football down in tier 4 is pretty poor. we were consistently inconsistent and, despite a little wobble around February time, we were never in any danger of either promotion or relegation. So a nice mid-table finish it was.

Players

Not sure how next season will go. This is our best XI from this season:-

Four over 30, five who are leaving at the end of the season and a ridiculous amount of money spent on wages. So next seasons best XI will be very different as I'm planning to have an all youth team within a couple of seasons, just to save on wages more than anything.

Youth

Which means I really really need decent intakes! I found a decent HoYD with professional personality so was hopeful of a good intake. The preview was ok...

But didn't really prepare me for how good the intake was. It was a huge releife seeing this many elite talent, particularly as half of them will be first team players next season!

The obvious picks of the bunch is these two:-

Not sure what to do with this fella. I don't use DM so do I retrain him or change my tactic to get him in? Either way, he's definitely gonna be a first team player next season!

And next season centre back! Nice determination and bravery, little slight on the physicals. but looks a huge talent.

 

Finances and Upgrades

No upgrades with the finances the way they are. Even if I get the wage bill right down there's still no way we can return even the slightest smidgen of a profit.

It may be I just get fed up with the finances after a while, we'll see how it goes.

FK Zemun - 2023/24 Season Review

League Position - 9th (2nd in Group B Final Phase)

Manager Overview

Survival was the name of the game in season 1, and survival was achieved. We fell just one point short of finishing in the top half for the Final Phase, which would have meant absolutely no relegation worries, but in the end we did enough to stay up.

We had a couple of good players for the level, with Andreja Lazovic and Nemanja Jevric the pick of the bunch. Ivan Tejic ended up with our best Avg Rating for the season with a 7.10.

We had just about enough players in the squad to avoid playing greyed-out players too much, but we had very little help from the youngsters who started at the club because they just weren't up to scratch. 16-year old Danijel Cvetkovic ended up playing 29 games for us because we were so short in the middle of the park.

There were encouraging signs when the youth preview came in. I just wanted depth in the squad, so positions were secondary to talent.

When they arrived, having 3 elite talents was nice. I would have preferred to maybe have a player or two a little closer to knocking on the door of the first team, but looking at Cvetkovic's workload, some of these lads are probably not far away!

The three lads in the elite category were:

Kenan Bozic

Strahinja Kovacevic

Branko Gligorijevic

Bozic probably would have gotten minutes early had he not needed to be registered as a foreign player. He managed one start in our last game of the season, but I envision big things for the lad in 2024/25.

Off the field, we managed to complete the National C coaching qualification, and the club upgraded our Youth Recruitment from Adequate to Average. Financially we're doing OK. We lost about £90k over the course of the season, but we'd started with £160k. Sponsorships and the like have boosted us back up to £180k, so hopefully we can have a go at a few more upgrades to the recruitment and junior coaching next season.

Next Season: We consolidate our place in the division, develop some of our youngsters, and upgrade our facilities. Oh, and keep whoever TSC are away from our youngsters!

I might have been too hasty posting this before playing through it - I don't know if it's a game bug or a database issue with the team's reputation, because every single player in my team, currently on an amateur contract, refuses to sign any contract that doesn't give them Star player status, regardless of their skill level. I might jump ship, cause sooner or later this will ruin my squad.

So I had a go here last year, but got stopped by a bug that allowed teams to poach my players under contract. So I'm back in Denmark with Holbæk!

The club has an excellent setup for this level as well as a club culture of developing youngsters so I hope to make swift way up the leagues! And remember; Det er dejlig å være norsk i Danmark! <3

Not a bug being on an amateur contracts, in fact some teams in the 4th tier uses amateur contracts irl.

The star player part, is strange if happens in every single player. After they sign, you can try change it in the squad view.

What a difference a month makes.

Immediately at the end of the season, a new board takes over and writes off the club's debt - putting us £69k in the black.

I waste no time in asking for a coaching badge and improvements to both the junior coaching and youth recruitment. All accepted.

 

 

 

Actually feeling somewhat positive about things now. If we can keep our heads above water, there is the potential for growth.

Hey I'm currently one game from the end of my first season in Portugal. I had the same issue with contracts except they all wanted first team player. Other than the obvious fact that they all want higher wages than I'd like to give them there was weirdly no issues with players complaining about not playing enough. Even the wingers that I didn't use all season(I'm playing wingbacks) haven't complained once. All of my youth candidates have agreed provisionally to pro contracts with normal terms so at least the problem doesn't extend to that. I'm gonna keep playing but I totally get if you wanted to restart.

I will be joining this fantastic challenge once again. This time in my native country Denmark.

I have always wanted to try this challenge in Denmark, but the small and close leagues makes this challenge particularly difficult on top of the (virtually) missing cup prize money.

Anyway, meet the manager of Nørresundby FB. It is time to challenge the monopoly of AaB in the northern part of Jutland called Vendsyssel!

Not going to post as what's the point. Season 3 and over for me. Form was shocking. Players were garbage.

Somehow managed to claw it back and with 3 games to go we were 2 clear of Peterborough Sports. 

We were playing Stourbridge who were champions. We were 2 up away from home with 13 to go. They scored 3 late goals including a 92nd minute winner. 

Next game we played Nuneaton. Peterborough Sports played Stourbridge who had a record of P: 25, W: 20, D:2 and lost 3. Peterborough of course won. The last 16 games of Stourbridge they'd lost 1. 

Final game of the season we lost 3-1 and Peterborough Sports lost 3-1 but relegated on GD.

2023/24

Really pleased with that. We lost our first three games in all competitions but then slowly started to find our feet as we all got used to each other. A 5 at the back tactic felt like the best way to go with the tools we were given and we ended up going from strength to strength. With 5 relegation places we were definitely looking over our shoulders for the majority of the season but we fared well against the teams in the relegation zone and picked up some important points early on. 26 games is a short season so we need to make sure we hit the ground running next time, we can't afford to get dragged in to a dogfight at the bottom.

 

We inherited a decent squad albeit with just one goalkeeper who got injured twice in the season, thankfully our grey replacement actually did a decent job and we didn't suffer too much! On paper Mane is our best player but he really didn't perform and had a bad injury mid way through the season. To make matters worse he is kicking up a fuss about leaving for a bigger club. Tarcisio and Marques (below) we're our standout performers. 16 goals from Marques is actually really solid and he is still young and improving. Tarcisio is at the other end of his career and at 38 he might well retire before next season, but chipping in with 9 assists is a great contribution from the veteran.

     

A really encouraging intake preview was followed by a decent intake including a much needed backup goalkeeper who isn't great, but at least he's real. A mixture of personalities which is to be expected but something to build on and a welcome injection of youth and potential. 

     

Macas looks like a bit of a midfield all rounder and might even threaten a look at the first team next season, the jovial personality isn't great but there's a player there for sure. Polishchuk looks the best of the bunch with his fairly professional personality and looks like our future right wing back. Looking forward to seeing how they and the rest of the newbies improve. 

     

 

I'd be more than happy with the same again next season, however our -300k financial situation is only getting worse and as a result our wage budget is now capped at its current standing. With many players on the last year of their contract anyone who wants improved terms might find themselves being disappointed. Could get interesting!

Season 2024 Review

 

First things first, sorry about the size of the logo, it is the only one i have found so far,.

Well that was a HO HO Horrible season. It started so well, finishing top of the group stages of the Finnish cup and finally getting knocked out in the quarters. ( The cup is played and virtually finshed before the season proper gets going) 

Mid table finish was the boards expectation and being in sixth after six games i thought it was a shoe in and was looking forward to my intake and then.......

Now i know the game is not biased and i know these things do happen but over the next few months things went wrong, really wrong and to rub salt into the wound, we lost by one goal most of the time  and six of the games we lost by a goal scored after the 85th minute, the laptop almost went through the window when we lost to a penalty given after the additional added time was up, ( i did have to check if the other team was an affiliate of Man Utd!!)

 and this was the same tactic that we had been cruising on earlier in the season. Mid table was out, i was propping up the table with only three games to go. With 12 teams in the league each playing each other twice then spliting into two sixes who play each other once more. I then received a lovely messge from the board, get eight points in five games or pack your bag.

So i did something i never normally do i changed tactics entirely mid season, i had been playing with it for a while but thought what is the worst that can happen..... and by the end of the normal season we had scored five of the needed eight points. and by the end of the five games we had completed the task so with the last game of the season looming it was a must win game by at least two goals as we were playing the top of the group

 

 

We played well and won, but only by one goal..... guess when they scored ....again, so i was getting the atlas out to decide what country to head to next when a miracle happened and both bottom teams  beat their oppostion and we survived

but actually the tale of the season could not be explaind clearer than........

Or even better the only notable event on my timeline was......

 

 

 

So i survived and looking forward...

It had the potential to be a good intake and hopefully they will grow but with all of the top six being unambitious i dont hold out too much hope from this intake

 

Well Ho Ho Hopefully it will be a better season next year.....it surely cant get worse

Well done surviving! Bummer on intake personalities, but at least they will fill out your roster and you never know one may surprise and not be totally useless

I don't. I am fortunate enough to work from home so I have less travel time, and a job that I can take a quick 5 here or there and advance a few days. I've found FM to be the perfect game to play while watching sports, so I'm basically able to play a lot.

Aaaand sacked!

This is a good reminder, why not to start in Denmark. We were rubbish from start to end no matter the tactic; gegenpress, counter, wingplay, but to no avail.

Being Amateur does not help, and it was only after I was sacked, that I realised that three teams were relegated.
