Why in the game AC Milan and Inter Milan always have 2 different stadiums instead of a shared stadium as in reality?

Recommended Posts

I was thinking to post this in the bug section, but I feel it's not a real bug and it's actually deliberate. I noticed this error in FM 2007 and FM 2022 (the only ones I played recently) but I saw other discussions about this problem during the years, so it seems it's always been like that and I never understood why. Each team in the game has its own different stadium, with 2 different names, but it should actually be the same stadium. In FM 2022 there's even a tab that tells you for each stadium which teams play inside it and sure enough there's only one team for each stadium.

This is kind of a big error, because not only the 2 teams are allowed to play at home at the same time (which should be impossible) but during the derbies they even give an advantage to the team that plays at home, which shouldn't exist. This of course ruin a lot the derbies. Also, when there are changes made to the stadium, only one would be affected, instead of both. So, many reasons for which this error is annoying.

Do you know why it's like this and if there's a way to fix it somehow?

Someone in the past suggested it's a problem of rights, but I can't see how that can be, especially for so many years. I mean, you got the rights to say the name of the stadium, to associate it to the teams, you even got the official names of the teams, what's the problem in associating the same stadium to both? There are other shared stadiums in the game, so why not this one?

Because the game does not allow for two names for the same stadium. If it was one stadium what would it be called? Would Milan fans be happy playing at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza when at home?

Why 2 names? The stadium's name is Giuseppe Meazza. Also known as San Siro, but that's not its name. I'm also a Milan fan and I don't have any problem with that. I instead have problems having something that is unrealistic.

Well, you are going to have to report it as a bug then. The researchers for Italy have decided it should be this way, and if you post in the data error section, you'll at least get a reasoning for doing it like this.

I see, thank you :)

Should I open a new topic in the bug section? Wouldn't that be considered spamming, after I already opened this one?

According to Wiki, the stadium was originally called the San Siro New Football Stadium, then when it was renamed the Giuseppe Meazza, AC continued to call it the San Siro as Meazza had stronger connections to Inter.

I imagine for the game, it makes it easier to differentiate for the home games and gives Inter blue seats and Milan red seats.

I suspect that this issue may also be about naming rights and licenses.

But I can't see why. There is the official name inside the game as well. They just created a second version with the common non-official name. Why not simply keep one of them and put both of the teams inside, like in reality?

This used to be the answer but ever since I noticed it some 15+ years ago I use the editor to remove one of them because some glitches appeared and I don't like the slim odds of them resurfacing again.

Such as both teams playing at home at the same time, stadium used at the same time in general (ie i was playing a cup semi and the stadium with the other name was hosting some competition).

This question was asked some time ago, and the reply from SI was that because the clubs are officially licensed, each club provided demands for how they would be displayed in game. Inter wanted their stadium to be referred to as Giuseppe Meazza and Milan wanted their stadium to be San Siro (I believe for the reasons mentioned by Grifty above). The same thing is true for a club's Rivals and Club Legends/Icons in-game too - they are provided by the club being officially licensed.

I don't know, it seems hard to believe this motive, especially after so many years. I mean, I could understand one year where the clubs really wanted that division (which seems silly, since it's not the way it is in reality), but this issue has been going on for 15 years and maybe more, right? And it's not small issue in the game, so it seems strange that they never found a solution. Even just giving both names to the stadium, for example.

I'd like to see this reply from SI, anyway.

I expect that it would cause unnecessary issues trying to ensure both FM clubs were never playing at home at the same time. In reality also Im sure both teams have their "own" name for the stadium regardless of the official one.

Additionally I expect there is possibly some licensing issues; we know for instance certain clubs cannot have their real team names used in game (same for some players). In addition FM stadia are not currently permitted it seems to look like their real life structures.

Thank you! I've found many topics about this subject but never that one.

Still, now I know the reason, but still don't know why it wasn't possible to find another solution, like giving 2 different names for the same stadium, if that's what the clubs wanted. Because the way it is now it creates many irregularities.

But that already happens with other teams in the game. Like Genoa and Sampdoria both share the same stadium in the game.
