August 2023 - Premiership

A lot of games in August due to the CL playoffs.

But we managed to win our league games and get past Shakhtar and Partizan to get into the group stage again.

Maybe we can sneak a 2nd place here.

Transfer Overview - Summer 2023

OUT

We continued to trim our youth teams and we made two big sells.

Sibbick went to Paderborn for 6 mio and its now playing in 2. Bundesliga.

Watford decided to trigger the 15 mio release clause for Baningime and Im totally happy with this.

He is playing now in the PL like our 3rd choice keeper Stewart, who went to Aston Villa as backup keeper.

IN

I decided to risk some money this summer to get into the CL group stage. This already worked.

 

Our biggest transfer was Joe Bursik.

I think English keepers will be the key to finish this challenge.

One or two good season and PL teams should get come.

 

Mustre will not feature this season, he is a free one from Mexico.

Also Paulsen from Wellington Phonix, he will stay at Phoenix for the rest of the year.

Hopefully he get a work permit then, he just got his first call up for New Zealand.

Squad Overview 2023 Part 1

 

Goalkeeper

Bursik will be our new number one. He looks like a very decent GK.

O'Leary got a new deal after Aston Villa wanted to buy 4 mio for him.

He decided to stay and he will get all the cup games and shared games in Europe.

Stone is our new 3rd keeper, a nice HGC player.

Really happy with our CBs.

Moore will stay another season on loan with us and Im determined to buy him at the end of the season.

Clearke, Deas and Gordon gettin equal playtime with all the games we need to play.

Franjic I signed pretty early, because either would be my starting LB or B2B. Very good allrounder.

Kioso will be our starter on the right with Smith, who is a youth product as his backup.

Once I saw that Jankewitz will be home grown in the PL, I decided to buy him.

One or two good season and he will be back in the PL.

Hourihane is now a backup and McAllister will get some games too this season.

Well...this one is for me. Once I saw the scout report for my boy Fofana I need to get him.

Chinese World Cup winner Fofana.  3,1 mio for a very good B2B is a steal.

 

Docherty was listed by Hull City and he helps with the HGN rule in the Champions League. Decent B2B backup.

I decided to got with 5 wingers this season, because they are all injury prone.

Jota on the right and Woodburn on the left is our starting pair, with Knauff as first option.

But McKay and Ginelly may look not the good, but they perform way above their attributes.

Archer will be again our main AF this season. I would love to buy him the the right prize.

Campana was a nice free one. Really liking his physicality.

My DoF made the deal for Delap. I didnt know the player, but he looks good.

Boyce and Simms will play the backup roles.

Normally I go with 25 players + youth. (3 keeper, 2 players for each position, 1 older CB and 1 older CM)

I think it was the right decision to increase the squad size to 27 and add one more winger and striker to the setup.

And ofcause we had only 1-2 injuries which were not longer then two weeks.

Idk what happend here against St.Johnstone and then in the league cup against Rangers.

October 2023 - Premiership

Really nice response from the team.

Huge wins vs Roman and Basel in the CL and against Celtic.

Also a nice draw vs Rangers.

We start the month with the derby and finish with the aways game in Rom.

Nice win in the derby, but bad loss vs Motherwell...

But we won both CL games which means we won our group!

8 games in December, but the league stuff should be pretty "easy"

Against Porto we finish the CL group stage.

 

 

The board decided to increase our transfer budget again.

Idk where to spent it, but its a nice sign.

Almost a perfect month.

A first half red card in the Hibs game cost us the W.

 

We finish the year top of the table.

The new year starts with Rangers and we also got Celtic at the end of the month.

 

In the CL we drew Dortmund in the 1st KO round.

I decided to cash out Campana. He wanted more game time and despite scoring 7 goal in 12 league matches, he did not much.

We signed him for free and got 6 months later 7,5 mio.

Time to invest some money in some potential stars.

Maciel was on the NXGN list of 2022 and since then he was also on my shortlist.

He just need to learn the IW position on the right and he should be good.

Newcastle decided to trigger the 16 mio release clause for Bursik.

I mean Im fine with that, but not on deadline day.

We made a profit of 5 mio in 6 months.

 

Anyways...it worked perfectly to sign an English keeper.

Lets see what we can do on deadline day.

 

Newcastle should slowly become a very good team.

Normally around 2024/25 they will push into the top 5.

Well...there is still a big differents between us and a team like Dortmund.

There is still a possibility for a miracle at our ground, but I doubt that.

End Of Season Review 2023/24 - Stats

 

We added our 6th Premiership title to the honours.

Also we are now a 3,5 star club, which means we are on the same level as Celtic and Rangers.

Quick look at the player we sold to the Top 5 leagues.

 

Bursik played 13 games for Newcastle in the Premier League.

Stewart is only the 3rd keeper at Aston Villa.

Sibbick played almost every game in the 2.Bundesliga for Paderborn.

Atkinson got relegated with Eibar, stayed one year in La Liga 2 and then went back home to Australia.

Devlin we sold to Gladbach, sadly he never really played for them. He went to the MLS in January.

Baningime played a lot of games for Watford in the PL, but they got relegated.

Campana played not much for Empoli, but atleast he is earning over 2 mio/a.

Solano need a bit more time, but he got a lot of potential too. And yes, he is a Model Citizen.
