Start of a Journey

The ex-Manchester City and Barcelona forward was forced to retire from football following a cardiac arrhythmia diagnosis, however it looks like he is wasting no time in finding a route back into the game.

Sergio Aguero announced his retirement from football at the age of 33 due to a heart condition. He had to be substituted during his team's 1-1 draw with Alaves after receiving medical assistance on the pitch to treat chest pains and dizziness. The Argentina striker was taken to hospital for cardiac tests, after which he was ruled out for three months. However, Aguero did not make his return to the field before announcing at the Nou Camp that his playing career has ended.

Sergio Aguero has said that he expects to come back to the game in a coaching capacity as soon as possible. Speaking to Argentinian outlet Radio 10, Aguero said: "I've got to give coming back a go to see what can happen. I'm going to start from the bottom and work my way up.."

Dear All

Having lurked in this forum for so long, I've finally taken the plunge and started my own thread! Inspired by the many interesting threads here such as 13th Man's [FM22] The Ruins of Pompey - The Ballad of Benjani - Phase 3 - Return of the (Premier)ship to Port(smouth) and DavidBeckham's [FM22] Reviving Bolton - Fabrice Muamba, the only man for the job, I've decided to start my thread as one of Premier League's greatest striker ever, Sergio Aguero, whose career ended so abruptly in pain. Hopefully, you will enjoy reading on this journey as much as I'm going to love this!

Regards,

Brooklyn Jensen

New Beginnings

Vanarama National League South side Braintree Town will be Sergio's 1st home!

Braintree Town Football Club is a semi-professional football club based in Braintree, Essex, England. They are currently members of the National League South, the sixth tier of English football, and play at Cressing Road. The club was formed on 24 September 1898 as Manor Works, the works team of the Crittall Window Company, from which they gained their nickname Iron. The 2017–18 season saw Braintree finish sixth in the National League South. In the play-offs they defeated Hemel Hempstead Town and Dartford to reach the final, in which they beat Hampton & Richmond Borough 4–3 on penalties to earn promotion back to the National League. However, they were relegated to the National League South the following season after finishing second-from-bottom of the National League.

The Iron is currently rock-bottom in the league after 1 win and 7 defeats, and ex-manager Ryan Maxwell was sacked after the horror start.

We are expected to avoid relegation and be competitive in the English FA Trophy, and Sergio has absolutely no money to spend :( A tough job awaits the Argentinian!

1st Games

Perhaps due to the influence of his previous manager, Pep Guardiola, Sergio loves his team to press high and move the ball around in short, quick passes in search of the killer move. The fans at the Cressing Road Stadium have seen promising signs of the Argentinian's early management.

Transfers In

30aced12d0755264ebbf67fc451d086c.png

The squad was so thin when Sergio first arrived in Braintree that he couldn't even field a starting 11 in his preferred 4-3-3 formation. With no money left in the bank, he could only bring in players on non-contracts and loan deals to plug the gaps. Frustratingly, a couple of them have already left on permanent deals after just a handful of games. The wheeling and dealing will definitely continue throughout the campaign.

Key Players

Callum Ebanks

3be2d2c26a795c0e0977721b560d63a3.jpg

One of the players who left on a permanent deal was Sergio's starting number nine, and he had no choice but to turn to the market to source for a replacement. Callum was available on a loan deal from Cheltenham and he is a quick decent finisher, and certainly reminds Sergio's a little of himself. He will be the Argentinian's main source of goals in the upcoming games.

Kyran Clements

77dd8e672ad43615c720582efd58ad22.jpg

In the lower leagues, physical presence is absolutely crucial in defence and Kryan is Sergio's very own Vincent Kompany. The Englishman will be Braintree's main aerial man in both boxes and we need him to stay fit if we want to turn the season around for the rest of the year.

Alfie Payne

109a760cee6d7961d481f0df505f144b.jpg

Alfie plays the role which David Silva played at Man City, influencing play in the left central no. 8 position and threading passes into the front 3. Sergio has been showing footages of David Silva's excellence to the left-footed midfielder in hope that he can be the creative fulcrum like how the Spaniard was for the Citizens.

Vanarama National League South

The Iron has seen an upturn in form since Sergio took over, and it is likely to be due to the 'new manager bounce' but we will take whatever results we can get to climb up the table.

827ec12e0fcd88f0a0420370f7c1c249.png

Sergio has gotten Braintree up to 12th in the table after 7 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat in 10. He is secretly hopeful of reaching the play-off spots if he can get his boys to keep up the form for the rest of the campaign.

The FA Trophy

fd05a7916627a4f4afad192993a3887b.png

In Sergio's 1st ever cup competition as a manager, he managed to get his team to progress past two opponents and we now face a tough task against a side which is a level higher than where we are. The Argentinian rarely had to play the role of underdogs in his playing career and this will be a new challenge to him early in his management career.

Heartbreak

e6bd68c1307b560f14285545bf6baea1.png

The season ended in heartbreak for Sergio as we were defeated 0-1 by Havant & Waterlooville in the play-off final. It was really a smash-and-grab victory by our opponents as we dominated them in terms of possession, shots and xG. Nevertheless, Sergio can really pat himself on the back for a job well-done as we lost our 1st choice right-back and striker to suspension and injury respectively in the semis.

Vanarama National League South

fa49e283096d55b967441da8f6884220.png

Sergio's boys did really well to reach the play-offs after the bad run of form in the opening 8 games, finishing 3 points behind eventual league winners in the 5th position. He has to be happy with the campaign despite missing out on promotion as the media predicted a 21st-place finish, and our salary per annum is right at the bottom of the table in 21st-place as well. In summary, it has been a really solid start to Sergio's managerial career.

The FA Trophy

aef5ebf3dcc8824fc3decd0da0363812.png

The FA Trophy journey ended in the fourth round as we were defeated by Vanarama National League outfit FC Halifax in a narrow 1-2 away defeat.

FA Cup

76bbc7d10b406fb5a876ab603c4f2a0b.png

The FA Cup campaign ended before Sergio took over the reins after the boys suffered a 0-3 defeat against Truro in the Third Qualifying Round.

Next Steps

2e7177294d0856cd2dad4690600d7437.png

The Argentinian is open to moving to a club in the higher leagues to further his development as he hasn't been allowed to do any of his badges so far. However, he will not leave Braintree Town for another club in the Vanarama National League North/South out of respect for his club. The story continues!

You can be really proud mate! Bottom after 8 games and you led them to finishing 3 points behind the league winners. Extremely unlucky in the play-off final and sometimes FM just doesn't want you to win! At least it showed that you didn't save and reload!

Thanks mate! I'll never do save and reload, and win every time.. where's the joy in that right? ;)

The Second Chapter

404f6b06781f6f187fbbd7c820b1f8c1.jpg

Sky Bet League One outfit Shrewsbury Town has agreed to give Sergio the opportunity to progress his career, offering him a two-year contract and the Argentinian took it with both hands. The club is a few steps higher than his first team, and he was promised the chance to finally work on his coaching badges. It was a no-brainer.

739815598ee000c4358483f112046e0d.jpg

Shrewsbury Town Football Club is a professional association football club based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. The team competes in League One, the third tier of English football. The club plays its home games at the New Meadow, having moved from the Gay Meadow in 2007. Founded in 1886, the club were inaugural members of the Shropshire & District League in 1890 and then joined the Birmingham & District League five years later. The Salop finished 18th in League One last campaign, and the club felt that it was time for a change before deciding to take a chance on Sergio's potential. With the media prediction of a 14th-place finish, the squad would require significant strengthening if we want a chance at promotion.

Key Players

Tom Bloxom

172e7d98de953a84519f1cc7198ba724.jpg

The 196-cm tall 18-year-old academy graduate will lead the line for Sergio in the upcoming campaign. The young striker is already one of the best players at the club and with some room left to grow in his development, sky is the limit for the boy.

Josh Vela

f4f264a86c613c6619b556caebc23cf8.jpg

Josh will be Sergio's Fernandinho/Rodri in the holding midfield role and the Englishman will be crucial in the Argentinian's possession-oriented tactics. He will dictate play from deep and progress the ball into his two number 8s + front 3 during attacking transitions.

Ethan Ebanks-Landell

e2b48a5f0b67ddb6471f4f354f7b2261.jpg

The club already possesses a number of capable center-backs and Ethan is the best of the lot. The strong center-back is all-rounded in his defensive capabilities and he will lead Shrewsbury's backline for Sergio in the upcoming campaign.

Tom Bloxman, remember the name! what a player at 18 years of age!

He was on loan at Tranmere in League Two last campaign and scored 18 goals. I've no doubt he will score goals for us in League One too! The fact that he came from our academy makes things so much sweeter!

First Pre-season

2522ed91ab0287951ebad1b81630b51a.jpg

This is Sergio's 1st ever pre-season as he joined his previous club half-way through the campaign, and he is relishing the chance to mould his squad and bring in players to fit his preferred 4-3-3 system.

Transfers

07135372224ba821bc5c789c47850517.png

In his 1st full pre-season, the Man City legend brought in 11 to replace as many out-going players in a very busy summer. The club was also happy with the transfer businesses as we ended up with some revenue, and there is room left to plug gaps if some of our players are poached in January.

Key Signings

Adam May

aa19c6bacc24e50f196434dc0d517864.jpg

Sergio prefers to have 4 no. 8s to help him get through the season and the squad he took over was short of two. Adam was available on a free and came in on a trial before he was snapped up as the coaching team was impressed with his all-rounded game. He will offer thrust and technique in the Box To Box Midfielder role.

Vontae Daley-Campbell

f214b1a894183be2b2b5989524793c3f.jpg

The club also didn't have right full-backs who were fast enough to rampage up and down the flank for Sergio. The pace of Vontae made the decision to bring him in very easy and he will start in the right full-back position for the Argentinian in the upcoming season.

Jonathan Rowe

4cee8a82b2ef1e9c0517b1adc204cd56.jpg

There was also a distinct lack of wing attackers in the squad which Sergio inherited and he made full use of the loan market to bring in a promising left inverted winger from Norwich. His pace, flair and crossing ability will be crucial down our wings in the upcoming campaign.

2f39f6712c0ee3af948e59af7dcedefb.png

The club was also very kind to allow Sergio to work through his badges and he is now studying for the National B Licence. With that, the Argentinian's first ever season in professional football management begins!

Mid-season Report

b83c4994b7c6fc6a15ee48babea2fa11.png

Things have been going well in Sergio's 1st attempt at managing in the Sky Bet League One. We were tipped to finish mid-table by the media but the Argentinian managed to guide us to the 2nd position after 31 games, with automatic promotion looking likely as we are 9 points ahead of 3rd-placed Oxford. It will be a challenge to topple Derby at the top though, as we have been consistently behind them in second place throughout the campaign.

FA Cup

ace809377f6b63ebbfdb786baa6352cf.png

Our second choice lineup managed to progress past Leyton Orient and Ipswich in the 1st two rounds but the boys came unstuck against Premier League side Sheffield United in a 0-2 Third Round defeat.

Carabao Cup

577cb9f88643b50e16e9f872f2dcc677.png

Our worst performance of the season so far came in the Carabao Cup where another Premier League outfit, Leeds United, smashed us 5-1 at their home ground as we suffered a second round cup exit.

Papa John's Trophy

b12664b492bae751c6bb1b5aa7d7bd4d.png

Things looked rosier in the Papa John's Trophy as the boys did very well to progress all the way to the semis, where a scary-looking Man City u23s side awaits us. Nevertheless, Sergio will continue to play his second string in this competition as he wants to place full focus on sealing automatic promotion.

Star Performer

c329a654022281c70cd01105336d3937.jpg

The 19-year-old has been an absolute star for Sergio, scoring 18 goals in 20 starts in all competitions for the Salop. He was also out for almost two months with sprained knee ligaments and our results dipped as a result..

10f3fa505b057a9f01b38456f5017100.png

..unfortunately, he has a release clause of 1.5 million pounds in his contract and two Premier League clubs have activated it on deadline day. He also refuses to negotiate a new contract :(
