Fabrice Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch at White Hart Lane during an FA Cup quarter-final against Tottenham Hotspur while playing for Wanderers. Muamba dropped to the ground after his heart stopped on March 17, 2012. It took medics an excruciating 78 minutes to resuscitate the then-23-year-old.

Muamba came through the youth team ranks at Arsenal before moving on to Birmingham City and later to Bolton, for whom he played 148 times and scored four goals. Following his recovery from the cardiac arrest, Muamba announced his retirement from football in August 2012. He has since spent time being a pundit, studied for a degree in sports journalism at Staffordshire University and also undertaken coaching too at Rochdale with the club's under-16s.

The former England youth international had ambitions of becoming a manager one day and had a target of doing so at Bolton, ultimately taking Wanderers back to take on Spurs, the side against whom he suffered his heart attack, and play them in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with White Hart Lane now demolished to make way for the new ground.

“I’m lucky to even still be here. Every day for the last ten years has been a blessing. To be back on the grass, kicking a ball at Bolton Wanderers, coaching at the club I was playing for when they brought me back round, feels fitting. I’m so happy. My dream was to one day manage, to be manager of Bolton and take them back to Tottenham, where I had my accident. Now is a great time. It’s been a while and I’ve wanted to get back in and make a contribution to the football club. I feel I owe them one, I owe the people of Bolton. There’s an unfinished story there.."

Pre-season 2021/22

Fabrice took over a squad which is more than capable of achieving the media prediction of 10th position. There are two starting center-backs capable of competing in the League One, two pairs of quick wing-backs, a well-rounded trio of strikers, and lovely technicians in central midfield.

Key Players

7d0f0d96ebe169dd6919b555764c2a24.jpg

Josh Sheehan is arguably Fabrice's best central midfielder at the club, and he will be his orchestrator and set-piece taker in the upcoming campaign.

cc39214ac83265cc7929e166571f5f48.jpg

Club captain and towering center-back Ricardo Santos will be the Trotters' most important player in both penalty boxes.

ade5993e3d073c9df4531264ba3884b0.jpg

The Icelandic man mountain Jón Daði Böðvarsson will start the campaign as Fabrice's 1st choice frontman.

Key Signings

a5548712f3b57d7dacf933cdd8dfb138.jpg

Fabrice's preferred formation is 4-3-3 with wide players cutting in and wing-backs providing the width. The squad which he inherited lacked a left-footed right winger and Femi Azeez was brought in on loan from Reading to address this gap. His pace and movement will be crucial down Bolton's right flank this season.

1c396a2325a4e6f492ead2b3b5cc06c8.jpg

Fabrice had an abundance of right-footed central midfielders but he wanted a left-footed one (like how Rafael Benítez wanted Gareth Barry back in those days) to provide more balance in the squad. He was surprised to find a player of Jordan Shipley's quality on the loan market and he wasted no time to bring him in. The medical department warned that he could be injury-prone though and he will need to manage the Irishman carefully to get the best out of his all-rounded game.

f9fae2b743afcd646c8ca224383dd225.jpg

The gaffer loves to push his defensive line high up the pitch and the Bolton squad lacked pace in central defence. Nathan Wood is the perfect addition as he is incredibly quick and he came in on a mere 850 pounds p/w loan deal from Middlesbrough.

882efa2459d1eb7fe9b1e2aa92070554.png

And with that, Fabrice's 4-3-3 is all set and ready to go!

I will be following this, Bolton is always a club that I have been tempted to manage as they have dropped down the divisions in my various saves, I am also a fan of playing as ex players as your manager.

August - October 2021

7639591c5607b8be0a2345480540e020.png

Three months flew by and league results improved over time, with the best run coming in October with 5 consecutive wins. Fabrice isn't resting on his laurels but he is definitely pleased.

131d5c41aa3e41b899b5ca755fd99585.png

Nobody's looking at the table at this stage of the season, especially when there are 30 matches to go but Fabrice must be smiling a little, just a little inside..

Cup Competitions

6b941a3886473f5eafad73c228770c74.png

The cup fixtures began in an underwhelming fashion as we were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Championship outfit Stoke in the 1st round. Fabrice's boys looked better in the Papa John's Trophy as the Trotters bagged 6 out of 6, including an impressive 6-1 victory against Liverpool Under 23s.

Top Player

53953d2a07295d8cd07df349d939aa94.jpg

League One's Jack Grealish started the campaign like a house on fire, creating an impressive 9 and scoring a further 2 in just 12 starts. If he can maintain his goal contribution ratio of nearly one goal/assist per game, Fabrice's boys won't finish too far off the top end of the table.

Cheers mate! Bolton has a solid base of core players and it's worth managing if you have the time :) Playing as ex-players definitely adds more realism to the game and makes it a tad more enjoyable for me!

I’m doing a save with Bolton at the moment 8/9 seasons in. Josh Sheehan only just left on a free for me, I got way too attached because he always ended up providing some goals one way or another.

Will be keeping up with this one.

Great to have you around mate! Will check in with you for advice as we progress in the save, if you don't mind ;)

It's also extremely loyal of you to have kept Josh for this long! Josh is certainly good enough to be a decent player in the Championship though!

If they can still drop decent match ratings who am I to let them go  The Championship years were his best years for me.

Happy to give advice if it’s needed, although I’m not sure how much help i’d actually be!

You've made Fabrice very excited to see how Josh does in the Championship, hopefully in the next season! He's still smashing it in League One, creating 13 and scoring 3 in 17 starts! You will definitely be a great help and I'm looking forward to having you around! :D

November - December 2021

de75423e2a2b47dffbcae7d0e298fa74.jpg

We are now in the second half of Fabrice's maiden League One campaign and things are still going well..

c373b134519f3e955f2baf5d2c92e50b.png

We had a little blip end November and early December-ish but the boys bounced back impressively with 6 consecutive wins at the end of the year.

25a6dd797e26bf48948beb3b73f59413.png

Fabrice's boys are now top by 6 points, but second-placed Rotherham has a game in-hand, and we face them away in our 1st game of 2022. That's a huge game to kick off the start of the year..

Cup Competitions

21089182a3d4851c1683182eb1aa1da1.png

We continue to progress in the Papa John's Trophy after topping our group despite a penalty shootout defeat against Rochdale after a dull goal-less draw. The second stringers managed capably in the FA Cup as we overcame Grimsby and Yeovil in the 1st two rounds to face an upcoming third round tie against Reading. The cup runs continue!

Top Player

One of our key signings (loan deal from Reading), Femi Azeez, is playing like League One's Salah as he has been lethal cutting in from the right flank. His incredible technique, dangerous movement and pace have bagged him 10 goals in just 12 starts. For a mere 900 pounds per week, the Englishman will be an extremely successful loan signing if he can keep up his goal-scoring ratio!

Season Review 2021/22

89b5b9587773ca168388af9f3bc37bc5.png

Some kind words from a familiar face summed up the season perfectly!

Sky Bet League One

8aa347e094f350f5d1cce01211b3a561.png

Despite being tipped by the media to finish mid-table, the boys upset all odds and out-performed our board's expectation by finishing runners-up in Sky Bet League One. Fabrice missed out on the league title by 3 points but he would have little to complain after a fantastic over-achieving campaign.

FA Cup

464fadae574d5650f280f63d9cc22dee.png

We had a fun little FA Cup run too but were eventually undone by Championship side Sheffield United after our second stringers suffered a 1-2 home defeat.

Carabao Cup

339cfc336ee758c020201469b9ffaa0b.png

Carabao Cup was our biggest disappointment of the season as we stumbled at the 1st hurdle against another Championship outfit in Stoke City.

Papa's John Trophy

1de1378dd47508b2e94ba18402751dbd.png

We didn't end the season empty-handed though! The boys were so consistent throughout our cup run in the Papa's John Trophy and Fabrice managed to overcome league champions Ipswich Town in the final to lift his 1st ever piece of silverware :brock:

Top 3 Players of the Season

3d70efbf9398e20ff8700ff8d39fc657.jpg

Our 1st choice left winger grew stronger as the season progressed and ended a very productive campaign with 13 goals and 8 assists in 30 starts. Dapo Afolayan came in on loan from West Ham to help Bolton in their promotion from League Two, and he had gone one step further by helping the Trotters to their second consecutive promotion after signing on a free. What a bargain!

b1e81762faa74d739b73ace6463ef867.jpg

Josh Sheehan's couldn't keep up his incredible goal contribution ratio throughout the campaign but he still bagged 5 and created 16 for his team-mates in 36 starts for the Trotters. A very deserving mention in our Top 3.

9ca0ddf70917f844f7c30bf49eb4e1ea.jpg

Captain Fantastic Ricardo Santos was a rock at the back for us and helped the club concede the least number of goals in the league. He even contributed at the other end of the field with 6 goals and 1 assist, and is without a shadow of a doubt our player of the season!

537d0f065f0860dc1b423116eca49ba0.png

Having brought Bolton back to the Championship at his 1st attempt, Fabrice will definitely need to wheel and deal to put together a squad capable of competing at the next level. A tough pre-season awaits..

Pre-season 2022/23

72266f139b33bf09b1438c17ead4aded.jpg

The media prediction of a 22nd place finish in our 1st season back in the Championship meant that we needed to strengthen our squad significantly to compete at this level.

Transfers Out

d4a8050f81c4775d5c75294dacd5d19d.png

We did the outgoings as soon as the previous season concluded and 7 players left the club for a variety of reasons. Most notably, MJ Williams and Ricardo Santos, starters in our promotion-winning squad, wanted new deals which Fabrice decided against giving, and we let them go for a total of 630 thousand pounds.

Transfers In

0fc7fded4befb8223ea962cd96573d9d.png

A major overhaul of the squad was initiated by Fabrice as he brought in a grand total of 15 players on free transfers and loan deals. Brendan Galloway was the only player who costed us a transfer fee, and the entire management team was elated that the board managed to secure Man City as our Senior Affiliate as we managed to bring in three quality players for absolutely no money.

Key Signings

3aefbf5fb3468a257c22d694b218a0f7.jpg

Tyler Morton is a very talented central midfield player who was available on the loan market in the summer. Fabrice did not hesitate one bit when the kid expressed willingness to spend the upcoming season on loan at the University of Bolton Stadium. He will be our Michael Carrick in our 1st season back in the Championship.

ec7328775c7efe70181a6f928974d6de.jpg

We needed a Championship-quality left-footed player who can cut in from our right flank in Fabrice's 4-3-3 system, and Harvey Vale was the chosen one. The 18-year-old is pacy, hardworking and has a fantastic shot and he will go straight into our starting 11.

ee1b2c55c34fc9b9fa392f9f308f7392.jpg

Our scouts did so well to spot a player of Rwan's quality and we still couldn't quite believe we managed to convince the Brazilian to sign on a 925 hundred pounds p/w loan deal. The only negative is his injury-proneness but I have no doubt that he will score goals for us at this level if we can maximise his playing time.

01955387b7c86fc0d81362864bc82372.png

Same formation, but a much changed starting 11 from last campaign as we welcomed 7 new starters. Fingers crossed that we can compete at this level!

With the stars Liverpool ship in, at some point he may end up a permanent option especially if you forge a good relationship with him.

July - December 2022

It's all about one man in the 1st half of our campaign..

df794207ae3c1a8c75766752f90de9ef.png

The season started really early this time round due to the 2022 World Cup and we had to scramble to put together a squad capable of competing at this level. Thankfully, the new signings took little time to settle and we managed 13 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats in the opening four months of the season.

5fe534acab56c1e48e72244d45aed48f.png

Fabrice began to believe that we can challenge for promotion in our 1st season back in the Championship as the boys kept their level of performances up for the rest of the year.

28eda38f6796fd22889f2459a81e7574.png

We sit top after 24 games, and Fabrice now faces a tough task fending off last season's Premier League outfits if we want to secure Premier League football at the University of Bolton Stadium next campaign.

Cup Competitions

99c4d01b068c5d85833030da57913dda.png

We were eliminated early in the Carabao Cup again as we fell to a 0-3 defeat against Premier League side Leeds after our second stringers failed to perform competently.

Top Player

29c77dea823c181b6bb49eb56cfb270a.jpg

We owe our overachievements in the 1st half of the campaign to our scouting team, and Fabrice still can't quite believe how they managed to spot a player of Rwan's quality in Brazil. He managed 18 goals and 3 assists in 17 starts in his first foray into English Football and the Trotters will be nowhere near the top without his goal contributions. If we can keep up our form in the second half of the campaign and reach the pinnacle of English Football, the Brazilian will be a club icon.

Man City played a huge role in our promotion-winning campaign as our Senior Affiliate, sending 3 players over for absolutely no money and the best of the trio is Taylor Harwood-Bellis. Despite only really coming into our 1st eleven in the 2nd half of our campaign, the promising center-back shored up our backline well and pushed the team past the finishing line. What a bargain he has been!

Charlie Colkett was available on a free in the summer after Cheltenham released him from their roster, and their loss is certainly our gain! Another fantastic bargain of a signing!

Rwan is scoring goals in championship and now he will do it again in premier league

he went from santos Reject to be Bolton Top Scorer

i was wonder if big clubs like bayern and PSG will Buy Rwan in next 3 or 4 years

I'm hoping that he can adapt to the level above too! Can't seem to find strikers better than him who are willing to join us at the moment :(

I don't think he is at the level of the European giants though! If he can grow to that level, we have a hell of a player in our hands :D

Maybe next season he will help Bolton survive the relegation zone in premier league

Let's hope so! I tried to sign someone to take some goal-scoring load off him and the best we could find is..

Pre-season 2023/24

Bolton is the clear favourites to finish rock bottom and a lot of work has been put in to give us the best chance of surviving in the Premier League this campaign.

Transfers Out

In addition to the numerous expiring loan deals from last season, 11 players left the club and key departures include Dion Charles, club captain Gethin Jones, Jorge Segura, Kyle Dempsey and Brendan Galloway who were all part of our promotion-winning starting 11.

It was another summer of major overhaul as Fabrice brought in 12 and 9 players on permanent and loan deals respectively. He has obviously taken a huge risk as 53 million pounds have been put in to strengthen the squad. We better not get relegated as we need the Premier League money!

Key Signings

The 1st signing which we made this summer was one of the best we did, and young Swedish left-back Eric Kahl arrived for 4 million pounds. He is already quick and strong enough to compete in the Premier League and with some room left to develop, this is the perfect deal to make for a promoted side. Eric will be our starting left-back!

James Trafford was fantastic for us in the last two campaigns but didn't develop enough for the Premier League. We needed a new shot-shopper who is likely to be incredibly busy in our 1st season back in big time. Costing a mere 135k pounds, Dominik Greif was the best pound for pound signing we made this summer and the 197-cm tall giant will attempt to keep out the rich boys in the upcoming year.

Out of the 21 signings made this summer, Ryan Nyambe is the pick of the bunch. The Namibian is incredibly fit, strong, hardworking and determined, and he is the exact type of character you need in a relegation fight. He will attempt to influence the younger players from the right-back position.

Tyler Morton and Rwan were the only survivors from last season's starting 11 and our top man has already broken down with injury :( It's not a good sign..
