Cup Winner's Cup place going to wrong team.

I have created the uefa Cup Winner's Cup. I have a problem that I cannot solve. In the event that the winner of the nation's FA Cup have also won the league, that team goes into the European Cup (for league winners only). When this happens I want the runner up of the nation's cup competition to go into the Cup Winners Cup. However the editor is giving this place to the team that has finished 2nd in the nation's league. How can I correct this?

You've posted elsewhere about this saying you're using the European coefficient qualifying system, right? I'm not 100% sure but using that you probably can't. I expect it's hardcoded to go to the highest placed league team that hasn't already qualified for Europe if the cup winner already has since that's how all the current leagues do it.

You can do it if you draw teams directly into the competition instead of using a qualifying system though. If you choose to get all teams qualified for the European Cup first, then tick the "Ignore Teams" box they'll all be made ineligible. Then just tell it to get the last winner of each cup competition with "Use Runner-Up Team As Backup" ticked.

It has been hardcoded in the game that if the winner of the cup is already qualified for the CL the cup place goes to the next highest finisher not qualified for CL.

Reason for that is a change in UEFA qualification rules some years back.

You can set the rules via the advanced rules. Create the advanced rules for say Austria and study the continental qualification rules under the Austrian Bundesliga to get an idea what is possible.

Thanks for the replies guys.  I spent some time this morning removing the 6 stages and leaving 1 stage and 6 rounds to see if that made a difference. It still worked thankfully so I know either way the competition goes ahead.

Would you mind advising me what to do next exactly, as I am getting quite confused? This is what I have done today:

In UEFA Cup Winners Cup > Teams > Qualified Teams I entered each nation's cup competition .(screenshot 1) 

In Stage 0> Rounds 1 to 5 > Seedings For Round I put Get Qualified Teams for Comp, Or Get Qualified Teams from Stage depending on what round it was and what seeds were being entered. 

However I left in what I had originally in the Continent > Teams. (screenshot 2) Do I remove each entry to do with the ECWC or just the nations numbers ? 

I tested this file and in the first season Man City won the league and the cup. They beat Leeds in the Cup and I wanted Leeds to enter the ECWC, but it went to Arsenal as I now understand that is how it is hardcoded. You can also see that West Ham and Tottenham also have UEC next to their name but they don't actually qualify for anything at all

Add "Get Qualified Teams for Comp" > European Cup and tick the "Ignore Teams" box and make sure it's at the top of the "Qualified Teams" list.

Remove all "Seedings For Round". Instead, in the Stage 0-0 (Cup) > Teams section add "Get Qualified Teams for Comp". Tick the "Remove Picked Qualified Teams" box too.
I'm not sure what "Seedings For Round" does, I don't use it. But you'll get the effect you want from just adding all teams under the Stage > Teams section anyway.

Also, change your rounds/seedings. Currently your First Round only has 22 teams. The 22 winning teams move on from the Qualifying Round and that's it. Either you need to add 10 more teams in the First Round, or have more teams/Matches in the qualifying round so more than 22 move on.

Completely remove the Cup Winners Cup from that section.

 

A couple FYIs, a team could qualify for and play in both the Cup Winners Cup and UEFA Cup. You could tell it to avoid teams qualified for the UEFA Cup, same as the Champions Cup, but then there's a high chance both the Cup winner and runner-up will qualify for one of those and you'll end up with no team in the Cup WInners Cup.

Also, since you're using "Get Last Winner", any competition that has a "Did Not Take Place" history entry for the most recent year won't work and will make the competition fail verification. I don't think that's the case with any national cups, at least not for the major nations, but if there are any like that you'll need to delete that history entry to get it to work.

Thanks @rusty217 , I'll take a good look and try out what you said . I have 10 top seeds entering the first round to make that round have 32 teams. Just from reading what you have written, in removing the info in 'Seedings for Round' (I had Get Teams for Comp 0,10), I'm guessing this is why I'd be 10 teams short as I've now not instructed the round to add the 10 teams.

The issue was that in the first round you had "Number Of Teams" = 32 but "Number Of Teams Added To This Round" = 0, so it would only pick up the 22 teams progressing from the qualifying round. You'd need "Number Of Teams Added To This Round" to be 10 in order to get to 32 total teams.

100% @rusty217👍. I must have made that error when changing things from 6 stages to 1 stage and 6 rounds. I have spent that long looking at the editor this last week or so I think my eyes are gonna fall out of my head! Thanks for taking the time to look at that file.
