Line of Engagement and Standard Line of Defense and more distance between players in attack

Recommended Posts

I have always tried to make a compact system, hard to beat,  where I have tried to have LOE one lower than LOD. However, sometimes, especially when playing with good team against poorer, I want to create more space between the lines of my players so the opponent has to run more to press my players.

Does LOE and LOD only affect the team when it does not have the ball or does it also have effect when the team has the ball?
For example, if i wanted to create more space for my team between the lines, could that be achieved with changes to LOE and LOD or do I have to rely on roles to make that happen?

Just to clarify, I want to create bigger gap, for example, between my defenders and my forwards.

It is only an „out of possession“ instruction.

in possession, space is created via roles/duties.
