'Tyler's issues with FM. Minor issues. So called "friendlies".

When my assistant arranges a friendly against a high reputation club, I cancel it immediately. The next second. And I don't care that it could generate some income for my club. Off you go. Because this so called "friendly match" will most likely be something bordering porn and I don't want my team to participate in this kind of activities.

When I play a friendly, I never go with my starting eleven. I go with a mixed eleven where there are regular staters, bench players, B-team players. I always use lines like "it is just a friendly", "focus on fitness and performance", "the result is not important". You know, being reasonable and all. The AI manager? Well, not so much. He would place a strongest eleven. If a regular starter is missing, he is either injured or unfit. I don't know what lines AI manager uses to motivate his players, but it seems that he doesn't actually use any. He simply tazers them in the dressing room. Because from minute one they would start pushing like crazy. They wouldn't stop until they score 5 or 6. They wouldn't let your players touch the ball. On the bright side of things, you can suddenly score from a corner. Out of nowhere. But other then that it is a brutal beating. This is supposed to be a friendly match. You are playing a friendly match against a weaker team. I mean, what are you doing?

And so my question is: does AI understand what a "friendly match" means? Or it is just a number of allowed substitutions? Because out of 5 pre-season games I usually get at least one with a two-footed tackle and a sending off. The number of yellow cards is also usually comparable to that of a league game. If it doesn't understand the difference, and that seems to be the case, you need to sort it out. If I can demotivate my players, why AI can't do the same?

By the way, there are similar issues when you are playing against a team that supposedly doesn't need anything. For example my team needs a win in the last matchday of the season and the opposition team can move neither up nor down in the table. Their season is over. I played two such matches recently and didn't notice any difference.
