Campeonato Amazonense Final - First Leg

image.png.089c28e447da8b409f694ff325cdc37f.png

In what was a relatively even game, despite what the xG says, we rescued a late draw after going behind just before the 60th minute. Not ideal but it does mean we should in theory become champions if we can hold them to another draw.

Ok, I did not expect that! Atlético Amazonense were really slow off the start and our first goal came from their full-back just dallying on the ball and losing to Marcus Vinicius who crossed it to an unmarked Rubens Fernandes who just tapped it in. That set the tone for the first 20 mins of the game and we were ruthless. They threatened a comeback in the second half but Vivinho made some excellent saves to keep them at bay and seal our title!

Very please to have gotten this one done nice and early. We did get quite lucky that the board went from money tight to lavish spenders at the end of last year, otherwise we would not have been able to compete so effectively. I was also impressed with our performance in the last game as I genuinely though Atlético Amazonense would be too strong at home.

image.png.ba3d08a848a8a409f3dbea1273206106.png

I was constantly adding players throughout the tournament so only William played in all games this year. I feel I have left a very strong squad behind that should be able to make a bid for promotion from Série D.

Top Performers

Rubens Fernandes

image.png.fe125fa4ff4c66046f2093d31722c146.png

One of our first signings, very composed in front of goal and all round consistent player

Alexandre

image.png.77d0e6c571503e0eddf85f73a0de0163.png

Lost his starting spot towards the end of the campaign but I have to bring attention to how well he performed last and this season as an 18 year old playing outside his favorite position. Was great at DLP for us and has a bright future.

Marcus Vinicius

image.png.a9da98c98dfd1ee1ca3f64fb76e9f47a.png

The other starting striker, was not as prolific but contributed well to our overall play. Also already at the club I was glad to get him to extend his contract before I left as he was attracting interest from Série B sides.

Another short stay with a very high win ratio as I only lost two games in my time in charge of Amazonas FC. As mentioned before I do think we were quite lucky here as a different financial approach from the board could have dragged this out, but now I get to look forward to getting back to the Northeast in Sergipe!

  • corinthiano changed the title to [FM22] State Hunter - Gotta Catch 'Em All: 10 down - 17 to go!

Chapter 11 - Sergipe

image.png.3727b83b5c16f025ca83a96c59c3f451.png

image.png.4de9c7338c399e6f3ea1d59cf0fc9279.pngimage.jpeg.bb9fb9662c607d1456bd5f61d03430ec.jpeg

Sergipe is a State located in the Northeast of Brazil, bordering Bahia to the South and Alagoas to the North. It is the smallest State in Brazil other than the Federal District but is the 22nd largest State in terms of population with just over 2.3 million inhabitants. The Portuguese first landed in Sergipe in 1501 and declared part of the Bahia captaincy. During colonization the region was attacked several times by the Dutch, who took control of the territory between 1641 to 1645, after which the Portuguese regained control. In 1820 they were officially declared separated from Bahian, which was retained after the independence of Brazil in 1822.

The capital Aracaju is the largest city in the State with just over 650 thousand inhabitants, with Nossa Senhora do Socorro (an Aracaju suburb) and Lagarto the only other municipalities with over 100 thousand people. The industrial sector is the biggest GDP contributor at 53.9%, with orange juice being the main export at 66.1%.

The main trourist attractions are São Cristóvão, the 4th oldest  town in the country and State Capital until 1855, the Xingó Canyon and the beaches in the State which attract a large number of tourists to the area.

Praias de Sergipe

Football in Sergipe

The Campeonato Sergipano was first played in 1918 with just 4 clubs from Aracaju, with clubs from outside Aracaju participating from 1936. Sergipe are the most successful club with 35 titles pre-save, followed by Confiança (SE) with 21 titles and Itabaiana with 10. Since the save the tables have turned a bit and Confiança (SE) have been the dominant force, winning 13 out of 18 titles. There have been a couple of upsets too with Barra (SE) winning a maiden title and Santa Cruz (SE) winning their first since 1960.

image.png.972db249181e2e17e5ceab33547a0bdd.png

At a national level there have not been any major performances from the teams of the State, with Confiança (SE) finishing in 9th in Série A in 1964 the best ever performance. No Sergipe club has also won the Copa do Nordeste. In-save things have not been much better with Confiança (SE) making some appearances in Série B and C, but with both traditional clubs currently playing in Série D. Ideally I get a job with either one of them, but I would also consider the 1 star rating clubs and Guarany (SE) as they are in Série D. I would need a wage budget of R$200k plus though to have a realistic shot at being competitive.

Olímpico Esporte Clube is a club from the city of Itabaianinha in Sergipe. They were founded in 1958 and have no achievements to note, having bounced between the top two tiers in the State throughout its history. They were runners-up in the top tier once in 1996, 2 years after winning the second tier. In-game they have won the second tier a couple more time but have not been promoted from the Seletiva at any point.

They play their games at the Estádio Tenisson Fontes de Souza, also known as Souzão. FM says it hosts 5.000 people, but wikipedia says it is just 2.000, which is more believable from the few pictures I found.

Itabaianinha – Viajando Todo o BrasilDenison Fontes Souza (Souzão) :: ogol.com.br

The previous manager left after underperforming in the Seletiva, although he did ensure they stayed in the top tier of the State Championship.

image.png.ce054f5bb49d2e2ce4312e5b3dd8a045.png

I went very left field here and took a big gamble. The clubs reputation is tiny but they have a cool R$7M in the bank with a R$420k per month wage budget, which is a lot at this level. The money is draining fast though and there are a lot of overpaid players at the club, so we need a complete re-build of the team and hope for success in the short term otherwise I that wage budget will keep going down.

Yeah I am not sure if this gamble is going to pay off . The team is awful and massively overpaid. There are some very average players earning R$30k - R$40k a month and I know I can get much better players for a third of that salary. With the season over I have decided that I am going to take another gamble by letting pretty much the entire squad go at the end of the season and sign a brand new team. That will hugely impact the start of our season but gives us the best chance of success next year.

For now I just have friendlies arranged until the end of the season, I wont be doing a season review, just a Brazil review once we get to December.

2039 Brazil Review

Série A: Flamengo win the title again and are now joint biggest winners with Palmeiras and São Paulo on 12 titles. Flamengo had an unlikely chaser in Vitória but did end up winning the title with two games to go. Ponte Preta, Náutico and CRB go straight back down along with América (MG), who won surprisingly won the Série A title as recently as 2036. Mirassol and CSA go straight back up and are followed by Botafogo and Cruzeiro, two traditional giants back in the big time.

Former Club Watch

I took away some of the Mato Grosso do Sul teams and just left Costa Rica (MS) who I won the title with.

Tapajós (AP): Still stuck in the second tier of the State Championship, but at least they improved in the Seletiva, where they finished 4th.

Pimentense: Still rock bottom in the second State tier, but also moved up to 4th in the Seletiva.

Costa Rica (MS): A frustrating year as they didnt even reach the second stage of the State Championship and lost the final of the Seletiva. Knocked out at the first attempt in both Copa Verde and Copa do Brasil.

Palmas: Terrible year as they didnt even make it to the Semi Finals of the State Championship and lost in the Semi Finals of the Seletiva.

Náutico (RR): Dominated the State Championship but the bizarrely only finished third in the Seletiva. Knocked out at the first attempt in both Copa Verde and Copa do Brasil.

Desportiva: Not a good year, losing out in the Semi Finals of the State Championship and being relegated from Série C. Also knocked out at the first attempt in both Copa Verde and Copa do Brasil and finished runners-up in the Copa Espirito Santo.

Brasília: Won the State Championship again and finished a decent 5th in their Série C group, just missing out on a place in the Second Stage. Knocked out at the first attempt in both Copa Verde and Copa do Brasil.

Rio Branco (AC): Disappointing in the State Championship but did will to reach the last 16 of Série D. Also got as far as the Semi FInals of the Copa Verde.

River (PI): Retained their State Championship but only finished 6th in their group in Série C. No performances of note in the other cups.

Amazonas FC: Followed up the State Championship win with a First Knockout Round exit in Série D.

It'd be a nice challenge with Olimpico, interesting choice. For sure it doesn't look like a "one and done" case, but please prove me wrong :P

2040 Campeonato Sergipano Preview

image.png.9d4751f808362a69f5104f6a61207eab.png

The Campeonato Sergipano is made up of 10 teams split in two groups of 10. Logically you would assume we would be playing each team in our group twice, right? Nope you guessed wrong as we actually play the teams in the other group home and away for a total of 10 matches. The top two go to the Semi Finals and the bottom team is relegated. The Knockouts are over two legs with penalties deciding the winner should it be tied after 180 minutes.

Difficult for me to assess how well we will do here. We have brought in quite a few players but the level is not really much better than before. One big oversight on my part was assuming that players would want to join us purely on the money factor, but a lot of them straight up refused to even go on trial with us.

Top Rated Players

Naldo

image.png.fab40a6f96e83fcb184b859b1199de51.png

One of the few original players I kept as his wage demands were not as ridiculous. He is by far our best player which tells you a lot about the quality of the squad.

Tomás Ángel

image.png.370a521dd72b7a9bab9aa9f4d59e0b1d.png

The veteran was the best striker I could bring in. Am hoping his poor physicals wont matter too much in the DLF role.

Enzo Gabriel

image.png.293c309bb5633d469c9761fe1c0c5ac0.png

Another one that was already at the club, will be our AP for now.

Initial Fixtures

image.png.2ad7b1ca4a436af342e25e4833556137.png

Busy start and I expect it to be tough, especially against Aracaju and Sergipe.

At the halfway Stage of the Group Stage I have to be very happy with how things are going. It could have started better if we had not had a player sent off against Socorro (SE) in the 80th minute which allowed them back in and saw them score an equalizer in the 86th minute. I was particularly happy with the 3-0 against Sergipe who are supposed to be the second best side in the State, even if they got payback at their place. I now have to believe that a place in the Semi Finals is a possibility.

Transfers

We added three more faces since my last update, the first is a young Argentinian left back with decent potential and the other two slot into the first team.

Leandson

image.png.948573c47a0df713ab49061b94f9f552.png

Scored two goals on his debut to seal the win against Aracaju, Can play in any of our more offensive midfield roles but is now unfortunately out for 2-3 months.

Geílson

The great run continues as we do a clean sweep this month and qualify to the Semi Finals. Barra (SE) were surprisingly weak for a team that won the State Championship three years ago. Socorro (SE) gave us a good game and were unlucky not to leave with a draw as they had a goal disallowed and hit the cross bar in the last 10 mins.

We let go one player and signed three this month, although only one was noteworthy as I join forces again with Francijunio. He was only a squad player for me at River (PI), but becomes the best player at Olímpico.

Not the best of preparations for the Semi Final as we get well beaten by Itabaiana twice and will face them in the Semi Finals. We will do our best in those games but I am already very happy with how our first State Championship campaign went so far.

Yet again we bring a midfielder in, but do let one go to make up for that. Jean Cláudio slots in at BBM for us.

Campeonato Sergipano Semi Final - Second Leg

image.png.a4a7f10eb99f9ac381c9663fcfbccb76.png

What a game! Beaten but very proud of the team. We were taking the tie to penalties and looking comfortable until Eduardo Ribeiro picked up a second yellow. We then held on admirably until the 86th minute when the floodgates opened and they scored 3 goals in 3 minutes. Another loss to Itabaiana but this time we matched them. Now we have 45 days until the Seletiva starts.

The way the Seletiva works in Sergipe is that the teams are divided into 2 groups of 15, where each team plays each other once. After 14 games the top 2 of each group qualify to the Semi Finals, were ties are played over two legs, with the winner being promoted to Série D.

It will be very tough but the aim is to get promoted, with the biggest competition being Sergipe in our Group and Itabaiana in the other. So I was very pleased to get an early win over Sergipe as that gives us a shot of finishing first and probably only playing Itabaiana in the final. We do have to maintain the good form though.

Great month other than dropping points against Freipaulistano. That means we lost the cushion we had against Sergipe and will probably have to win all 5 remaining games to finish top of the group, as I dont see Sergipe dropping points,

Of course I couldnt go a full month without signing anyone, so brought in Hugo Henrique as a starter at CB. He also plays as left back which is handy.

We have lost fluidity and have been just edging games, whilst Sergipe was blowing away everything in their way. When we couldnt get past Santa Cruz (SE) I thought that was it for our chance to finish top of the group, but in the last matchday the same Santa Cruz (SE) came from behind to beat Sergipe and help us finish top of the group.

Another very disappointing performance, we never looked like threatening Barra (SE). I think we majorly blew a good chance here and to be honest it was coming as our performances in the second half of the Group Stage were not great. Now we wait until January to get going again.

An ultimately disappointing season, even though we exceeded expectations. I really felt like I needed to get prmoted out of the Seletiva this season to stand a chance of progressing with this side and I may be proved right. I was OK with losing in the Semi Finals but after finishing first in our Seletiva group we truly bottled it against Barra (SE). They went on to beat Sergipe in the Final and to think our team is quite stronger than theirs is a bit gutting. I think in the end I brought in too many players towards the end of the season and the squad started to get unsettled.

Top Performers

Luiz Otávio

image.png.b27e169ac8614e3c400b12dd069e877c.png

Our first signing and most consistent player, scoring in almost every game. Managed to tie him down for another two years at very low wages.

Leandson

image.png.118a76e743f226c6695d0735f08d2c94.png

Started in midfield and then moved him up as our DLF, played well alongside Luiz Otávio.

Heliton Jorge

image.png.0609a449f65f6cce6484fc1f170e270d.png

Oldie but goldie, was very solid between the sticks and kept a clean sheet in more than half his games.

image.png.292d97a9504a38e52dc5778c5f9bc39d.png

Things are looking very bad...I dont mind the youth facilities being sold as they are not much use to me in this challenge but that only brought in R$1M, which does not cover the losses. The board set next seasons wage budget at R$315k per month, which is OK as I have managed to get our spoednign for next season down to about R$300k...the problem is that if we go into administration we will sell a bunch of players for nothing and have our season disrupted, so things could potentially go south.

As I have zero loyalty in this save I am looking around, whilst I may be able to get one more year to get Olímpico back on track I am wary about risking it and will move if a decent opportunity comes up.

Fortaleza and Náutico are promoted along with surprise packages Nova Iguaçu and Retrô, who make their debuts in Série A.

Former Club Watch

I took away some of the Mato Grosso do Sul teams and just left Costa Rica (MS) who I won the title with.

Tapajós (AP): Still stuck in the second tier of the State Championship, but at least they finished 4th in the Seletiva again.

Pimentense: Second bottom in both the second State tier and Seletiva.

Costa Rica (MS): A disappointing 4th in the State Championship, but they made up for it by winning the Seletiva and being promoted to Série D.

Palmas: Not a great year again as they were knocked out both in the Semi Finals of the State Championship and Seletiva.

Náutico (RR): Dominated the State Championship but again bizarrely only finished third in the Seletiva. Knocked out at the first attempt in both Copa Verde and Copa do Brasil.

Desportiva: Not a good year again, losing out in Final of the State Championship and being relegated from Série D. At least they won the Copa Espirito Santo.

Brasília: Won the State Championship again and finished a decent 6th in their Série C group. Knocked out at the first attempt in both Copa Verde and Copa do Brasil.

Rio Branco (AC): Finished runners-up in the State Championship and then did will to reach the last 16 of Série D again. Knocked out pretty early in the Copa Verde this year though.

River (PI): Retained their State Championship and topped it off by winning Série C again. No performances of note in the other cups.

Amazonas FC: Were not able to retain the State Championship and suffered a First Knockout Round exit in Série D again.

Associação Olímpica de Itabaiana

Associação Olímpica de Itabaiana are a club from the city of Itabaiana, which lies just outside the Sergipe State Capital Aracaju. They were founded in 1938 as a fusion between two local amateur clubs. The club is historically the third force in the State behind the two bigger clubs from Aracaju, Confiança (SE) and Sergipe. They have won a total of 10 State Championships, with the last one in 2012. They competed in Série A 5 times during the late 70s and early 80s. Since the save began they have not won any additional State Championships but have won the Seletiva 5 times.

They play their games at the Estádio Etelvino Mendonça, or Mendonção, but also referred to Estádio Presidente Médici by some. It holds 10.000 spectators and is owned by the club.

File:Estadio Etelvino Mendonça.jpg - Wikimedia Commons

They have also had a somewhat frustrating season as they lost the State Championship final and were knocked out in the Semi Finals of the Seletiva after having a 100% record in the Group Stage, which led to the sacking of their manager.

image.png.a431a8c7fa1661365e6e2328c4dadce5.png

With the financial situation at Olímpico deteriorating I felt I needed to move. It does not look like the top two jobs in the State are going to open up any time soon so Itabaiana was the best place to go. There is still a huge gap to bridge, especially as Confiança (SE) have just been promoted to Série C, but the increased reputation of Itabaiana should hopefully mean we can attract more players on a similar budget than what we had at Olímpico.

The pressure of the job also means I will have to get promoted from the Seletiva next season or face the sack like the previous manager did, so lets hope for a better season in 2041!

2041 Campeonato Sergipano Preview

image.png.9a23d5a59cf74a86c6f92ad6bc6c8245.png

We have been drawn in the opposite group of Confiança (SE), which in this format isnt good as we have to play them and could face them in the Semi Finals. They are clearly the strongest team and favorites, especially now they are in Série C. Barra (SE), who won the Seletiva, were relegated from the State Championship last year so all other 9 sides play in the Seletiva. I would ideally like to finish 1st in our group but have little expectations as a lot of players left at the end of last year and we are still building a team.

We have a number of players on trial but no transfers have been made yet, so I am going to take the opportunity to just show the 3 top rated players already at the club.

Top Rated Players

Naílton

image.png.55626bfd56524eefa6acaf924d6e2b75.png

Young striker with great physical attributes, shame his finishing is terrible.

Vitor Benedito

image.png.2aaae86542bffec40338828e84e8346b.png

Solid and versatile defensive player.

Aristídes

image.png.d78e931175d76e57923b963a5c03a8eb.png

Another solid young player, although he may not be best suited to our tactical set-up

Initial Fixtures

image.png.8654b10c2d561e4a939826bd1f25125c.png

Tough start. Before we start our State Championship campaign we travel to Série A side CSA for the Second Preliminary round of the Copa do Nordeste in a gam I fully expect us to lose. We then kick off against Confiança (SE), who we have to play again at the end of January...hoping to get 6 points from the other 2 games.

January 2041

image.png.3da701fc612d8f7e44b937e42dafa1e3.png

This was a weird month where we completely outplayed Confiança (SE), but then struggled massively against weaker sides at home, drawing with Santa Cruz (SE) and just about scraping a win against Aracaju. In the Copa do Nordeste I was proud the team took CSA to penalties but it just was not meant to be,

Transfers

image.png.52dd117742fdc6525501750222b77df0.png

We were busy in January and pretty much overhauled our midfield and part of our defence. This should be it though as we are very close to hitting the wage budget ceiling, I may try to offload a couple of players as I would like to strengthen at DLP or centre back.

Evanildo

image.png.1ac828618e0b43e2d7e8678bd7dea864.png

Decent, not spectacular, becomes our starting left back.

André

image.png.abf3c9b8817a54570efa438ca5030f96.png

Great signing on low wages, becomes our starting AP.

Carlos César

image.png.e3101c5798f6bfd60a96d1351b427db8.png

In hindsight not a great signing, will be our starting centre back but we had better options.

Jéferson Geraldo

image.png.0e355c49ac16a8f7c7ef13e6f7f8f908.png

Another good young midfielder, will be our BBM.

Palito

image.png.3dfa224331a497e0786593e6498754fd.png

Solid striker, still havent decided if I play him as AF or DLF.

Gaúcho

image.png.4a8434d34b5cfdf25419f2009987f604.png

Again solid, not necessarily great, but will start as our right back.

Next Fixtures

image.png.c9f3290ec73a165503319206bc46a871.png

A light month against theoretically weaker opposition, but all games are away and we have not exactly done very well against the weaker teams so far.

A solid month and qualification to the Semi Finals guaranteed. Santa Cruz (SE) were tough again and I thought we managed to seal a late turnaround but they went and equalized in the 3rd minute of stoppage time. Guarany (SE) and Aracaju were not as tough a test and we got two comfortable results here.

I did sell a couple of fringe players which allowed me to bring Belmar in, a good young midfielder and our starting DLP.

Next Fixtures

image.png.778d156eb9ee2ba4434430b9be5ed47b.png

We finish the Group Stage campaign in March and will play our old club Olímpico twice. They have been doing really well and will prove a tough test. It feels to me that both of us will go to the Semi Finals along with Sergipe and Confiança (SE), but the results here could go a long way to determine where each team will finish in the group.

We also have a cup game against Sampaio Corrêa and considering the financial benefits of going through we will give it a good go.

Could not have asked for a better month, 4 wins out of 4 games, 12 scored, none conceded. Palito has been immense, scoring 7 goals this month. The only difficult game was at Olímpico where it took us a while to break them down but we finally got there. I was very impressed by our dismantling of Série C side Sampaio Corrêa, we will play Volta Redonda of Série B in the next Round.

The results cemented our first place which is great as we avoid Confiança (SE). On a slightly less positive note Santa Cruz (SE) overtake Olímpico on the last game to take second place. Would have much rather played Olímpico seeing as Santa Cruz (SE) are the only team to have taken points from us in the Group Stage. Nonetheless we have to fancy our chances as we seem to have hit a stride and are in good form.

Campeonato Sergipano Semi Final - First Leg

image.png.e100ecc9850ac99a54f55151a6cc52e2.png

This Santa Cruz (SE) side really know how to play against us. Even though we dominated the first half they scored from their only shot on goal - a header from a free kick. We spent the entire second half trying to get the equalizer and it looked like it wasnt happening until Amaral coolly slotted a goal 4 minutes from the end. It is going to be a tough second leg.

Campeonato Sergipano Semi Final - Second Leg

image.png.2bb500b4201d940c6e0e039aa36fa224.png

That was tense. We raced to a two goal lead halfway through the first half, but were pegged back a goal shortly after. When we scored the third just before the break I thought we might finally be on for a comfortable game. Santa Cruz (SE) however were the best team in the second half and we let them back in with a stupid mistake as Gaúcho lost posession as he dallied on the ball and let Soares one on one to score. From then on we were under pressure and were lucky Soares didnt add a second as he had some great chances.

image.png.8b447934b6af29ffaa1e42309217e462.png

We are up against Confiança (SE) in a repeat of last years final. We did beat them comfortably twice during the Group Stage but that was when they were also juggling with the Copa do Nordeste and were probably tired.

I got most signings done nice and early so we had an established side throughout most of the campaign. What did impact us most was injuries, with us losing our starting GK, Amaral and Cláudio Roberto at points in the season.

Top Performers

Palito

14 goals in 13 games is amazing, he started as the DLF but clearly was better suited to the AF role, where he flourished.

André

One of my shortest stints as I spend just shy of 4 months at the club. Sergipe has shown me the importance of reputation. Even though I had good money at Olímpico, the half star reputation only attracted average players, with mostly old players interested. At Itabaiana I was able to sign really good 20 something year olds with the same budget that made a massive to the squad. Something to definitely keep in mind as we move onto the next State, Paraíba.

Chapter 12 - Paraíba

Paraíba is a State in the Northeast Region of Brazil, bordered to the South by Pernambuco, to the West by Ceará and to the North by Rio Grande do Norte. Ponta do Seixas, also known as Cabo Branco is the most eastern point in the Americas. Paraíba is the 21st largest State of Brazil by area and the 15th by population, with just over 4 million inhabitants. Paraíba was first settled in the mid-16th century and proved to be an ideal place for sugar production, which ensured there was a fight between the French, Dutch and Portuguese for control in the region, with the latter gaining effective control of the region until Brazil gained independence in 1822.

The capital of the State is João Pessoa on the Atlantic coast, which is also the biggest city with just over 800 thousand inhabitants. Campina Grande in the inland of the State is another large city with over 400 thousand inhabitants, with Santa Rita and Patos the other two cities with over 100 thousand inhabitants. Services is the largest contributor to the GSP at just over 56%, with industry just over 33%. Paraíba mostly exports cotton, footwear and sugar and alcohol.

Tourism is also a big contributor to GDP, although Paraíba often gets overshadowed by neighbors Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Norte. The hisotirc town of João Pessoa is worth a sight, as well as the many beaches along the coastside. The Ponta dos Seixas and its lighthouse gets a lot of visitors due to it being the easternmost point of the Americas.

Ponta do Seixas - Alchetron, The Free Social Encyclopedia

Football in Paraíba

The Paraíba State Championship started being played in 1908 and is one of the 4 oldest State Championships in Brazil. All the clubs that won State Championships from the founding year until 1935 do not exist anymore. In 1936 Botafogo (PB) from the State Capital João Pessoa won their first title. They are the most succesful club in the State with 30 titles pre-save, although the two big clubs from Campina Grande, Campinense and Treze, were not too far behind with 21 and 16 titles respectively. Since the save began Botafogo (PB) and Campinense have won the most titles, with Treze and Sousa grabbing one each.

image.png.93e57cc39456f298610bb1ad78fd44ea.png

On the national front Campinense are the most succesful club in the State, finishing a highest of 5th in the Série A in 1962 and being the only team from Paraíba to win a Copa do Nordeste. Since the save began Botafogo (BP) have been more succesful, making it all the way to Série A for a solitary season a few years ago. They now play in Série B alongside Campinense, with Sousa playing in Série C and Treze in Série D. The remaining teams are all in the Seletiva.

image.png.db14e6ec613c9cd03b4f429133156c62.png

This feels like a slightly bigger State with not just one club doing well nationally. As such the gap between the top 4 and the rest is huge and realistically I need to get a job with one of them.

2041 Brazil Review

Série A: Palmeiras respond to Flamengo to win the title with relative ease and equal their record of 13 titles. Notable mentions to Vitória qualifying to the Libertadores and unfancied Mirassol making it up to 7th. Nova Iguaçu did not have a great debut season in Série A and are straight back down, although Retrô managed to survive. Náutico yo-yo back down to Série B again, joined by Cuiabá and Cruzeiro. Bahia, América (MG) and Internacional are promoted along with Botafogo (BP), who will have a second shot at Série A.

State Championships (in Ranking order)

1. São Paulo: São Paulo beat surprise package Mirassol in the final to claim their 29th title. Corinthians are still record holders with 34.

2. Rio de Janeiro: Fluminense beat Vasco on penalties to win their 36th title. Flamengo are still record holders with 49.

Former Champions Watch

I will only update on the teams with which I have won State titles with.

Tapajós (AP): Finally won the second tier of the State Championship and finished 4th in the Seletiva again.

Pimentense: Second bottom in second State tier and bottom in the Seletiva.

Costa Rica (MS): Not a great year, finishing bottom of their Série D group and relegated to the Seletiva and finishing third in the State Championship.

Palmas: Lost to Tocantinópolis in the State Championship Semi Final but got their revenge by beating them in the Seletiva final and being promoted to Série D.

Náutico (RR): Finished second to Atlético Roraima in both the State Championship and the Seletiva. Knocked out at the first attempt in both Copa Verde and Copa do Brasil.

Desportiva: A year of recovery, winning the State Championship, Seletiva and Copa Espírito Santo.

Brasília: Lost the State Championship final for the first time in 5 years and finished a decent 6th in their Série C group. Knocked out at the first attempt in the Copa Verde and in the Second Round of Copa do Brasil.

Rio Branco (AC): Finished runners-up in the State Championship again, but the were relegated from Série D. Knocked out pretty early in the Copa Verde and Copa do Brasil.

River (PI): Retained their State Championship but could not make it in Série B again, finishing in 18th and going straight back down to Série C. No performances of note in the other cups.

Amazonas FC: Lost to Fast Clube in the State Championship Semi Final but made up for it by reaching the Semi FInal of Série D and being promoted to Série C.

Itabaiana: Were not able to carry momentum from the State Championship win and were knocked out in the Semi Final of the Seletiva by Sergipe.

Campinense Clube is a club from Paraíbas seocnd largest city, Campina Grande. The club was founded in 1915, but only won its first State Championship in 1960. They are the second most succesful side in the State with 29 titles (21 pre-save), but have finished the highest in Série A with a 5th place, as well as being the only club in the State to have won a Copa do Nordeste. They currently compete in Série B, having been promoted last year.

Campinense play their games at the Estádio Governador Ernani Sátyro, also known as Amigão. The stadium is owned by the Paraíba State Government and is where main rivals Treze also play their games.

Paraíba Criativa

They have had a great year, retaining the State Championship and sitting comfortably in Série B midtable after being promoted last year. Their previous manager was attracting interest from a host of Série A and Série B sides and finally took over the Náutico hot seat when they sacked their manager.

image.png.53309f666eb2e14cde4f9b8f9d4c889b.png

We get lucky again as a top club comes in for us. It wont be easy though as Botofago (PB) are equally good, especially with them being promoted to Série A. This is by far the largest club I have managed in the save so far and also the largest wage budget, which sits at over R$1.5M.

I take over at the end of December with only a few weeks until the new season begins. I will have to look at the squad and get some signings in ASAP.

2042 Campeonato Paraibano/Copa Nordeste Preview

image.png.3e48b9489ba5bd2f73b1ee7d10068bcd.png

This State Championshiop has a slightly different format than what we have seen before. It is split in two groups of five where each team plays each other twice for a total of 8 games, the bottom team in each group is then relegated. Then it gets a little bit more complicated - 2nd place of Group A then plays 3rd place in Group B at home over one tie, and vice versa. The winners then get to face the first placed teams in the Semi Final over two legs, which then leads to the Final.

Ourselves and Botafogo (PB) are clear favorites, especially with Sousa and Treze relegated to Série D and Seletiva respectively. CSP, who won the Seletiva is not even in the first tier of the State.

image.png.898b8a1db72995cd33d655d43b9011df.png

Seeing as this is the first time I will play in the Group Stage of this tournament during the save I thought it would be worth explaining how it works. This is the regional cup for the teams of the Northeast and runs in parallel with the State Championship, causing havoc to the calendar. I am unclear exactly how many spots each State gets but it is determine by performance in the State Championship. There are three knockout  preliminary stages before the Group Stage, which we got a bye to as last years State champs.

In the Group Stage the teams are divided into two Groups of 8. Similar to the Sergipe State Championship teams play against the teams in the other group, but only once, so after 8 games the top 4 move on to the Quarter Finals. The board just want us not to be outclassed and I would tend to agree with them as there are 3 Série A teams in our group and two much stronger Série B teams.

Transfers

image.png.8a5eb1142b3f118b5854045bbb6a72ce.png

This was a strange pre-season for a number of reasons-

  1. The season is only starting on January 30th for us, which meant a lot of time to get the squad together
  2. This is my first big club, which meant having money and more staff than I thought was humanly possible. The previous coach took a lot with him so I had to hire about 20 people.
  3. The squad was full of loanees that didnt want to extend their deals, so we were left with a small squad and with money that meant I could actually sign players just to be back-ups
  4. I paid actual transfer fees. Before this I had spent R$30k on one player in over 10 clubs I managed and now I spent R$750k within 3 days

In terms of the players we got in we essentially filled the holes left in the squad. Our goalkeeper wanted to move to a bigger team so I let him leave for good money and brought in Nicolás Peirano as his replacement. We also signed a Uruguayan left back for good money but other than that we got players in on a free with a good mix of experience and youth. A lot of players came in, but the best ones are still the ones that were at the club already, so I will just show the Top 3 Rated players.

Top Rated Players

Glédson Robson

image.png.637f006ba430436e6d3e84f90ce041b2.png

Best player at the club. Does want to leave but is happy with that only happening if his R$57.5M release clause is met, which I doubt will happen.

Fábio Luiz

image.png.a68582f635194921447afc3d62252903.png

Very good young striker, will probably play as DLF for us.

Walter Leonardo

image.png.90927712dda3b4c169873b2a47859385.png

Very solid midfielder, will probably play as AP for us.

Initial Fixtures

The massive downside of the State Championship only starting in February is that we now have an insane February to go through, with 10 games in 28 days, playing 3 times a week most weeks...In theory the State Championship games should be straightforward so we should be able to rotate and do OK in both competitions, but I will deprioritize the Copa do Nordeste if I see that we are not performing in the State Championship.

We make it out of this crazy month a lot better than I thought we would. The State Championship is extremely straightforward and I expect it to continue like that until we play Botafogo (PB) in the final. The Copa do Nordeste is where we have been surprisingly good by getting two away wins against Série A sides, sneaking past Fortaleza despite being second best on the day and then absolutely trouncing CSA.

On the Transfers front it has been relatively quiet, with the only signing being Ademar from Vasco on a free. Right back is our only weak spot at the moment and despite poor crossing he is better than what we have. Once I find a better player for the position I can shift him to midfield.

A perfect month finishes and we are into the knockout phase of both the State Championship and Copa do Nordeste, as well as into the second round of the Copa do Brasil. I was especially pleased with the win against traditional big team Bahia, where we could have won by more and actually had 3 goals disallowed.

The only dampener on the month was the sales of our absolute star player Glédson Robson. He was happy with me only accepting a bid that met his release clause that stood at over R$50M and was realistically never going to happen. However when Vasco bid R$11M the board went and accepted the bid over my head despite my protests. At such short notice I could not find a replacement that was anywhere near his level, so I brought in Feliphe Gabriel just to fill the gap. If I dont win the State Championship I will make a strong midfielder a priority in the second half of the season.

The great scheduling continues as we play Treze, who beat São Paulo Crystal in the Quarters, over 3 days. At least the Copa do Nordeste is only over one game and we face CSA here again. I update game by game for both State Championship and Copa do Nordeste now. Despite being the only non-Série A team left in the Copa do Nordeste I think we have a shot considering how well we did in the group stage.

Well that could not have gone any better as we absolutely humiliate our city rivals. Means I can rest our first team for the Second Leg so that they are fresh for the Copa do Brasil game.

The second XI get the job done in an uneventful game. The First Leg of the over Semi Final between Sousa and Botafogo (PB) has not even been played yet so not sure when the final will be scheduled, but I would expect it to be against Botafogo (PB).

Might as well update this one seeing as we are doing game by game. Very pleased with the performance against a Cuiába side that just got relegated from Série A last season. Still waiting on the outcome of the other State Championship semi final and our Copa do Nordeste tie was pushed back by 4 days due to a clash CSA had in their State Championship.

Copa do Nordeste Quarter Final

image.png.196874b46b2ed4b63a981f806d036d94.png

Well, there goes our Copa do Nordeste campaign. After going 1-0 up after 6 minutes I thought we would overpower CSA again but they scored 3 goals in 15 minutes to completely turn the tie around and we just could not get back into the game after that. Makes me regret having put a strong team out since the first leg of the State Championship against Botafogo (PB) is in 4 days...

Frustrating result as they scored early on a counter and despite us being on top for most of the game they edge it out. We are really missing Glédson Robson and will need a big perfomance in the Second Leg to turn this around.

Disappointing again as a defensive lapse in the first couple of minutes allowed Botafogo (PB) to gain a comfortable lead and again despite dominating the game we just did not pose any significant threat. I will revert to monthly updating as we turn our attention to State Hunters first ever Série B campaign.

A disappointing month with the Copa do Nordeste and State Championship defeats but we end it positively by winning the first two games of Série B. The win against Joinville was very undeserved but we will take it. This is our first proper league with everyone playing each other twice over 38 games and whilst it will be an absolute marathon it will be nice to get a few more games for a club. The board just wants to avoid relegation despite finishing 9th with year and I am OK with that initially.

We keep up the good form and I think it is safe to say that we will not be in a relegation fight. Whether we will be able to keep up this form I dont know but it really does feel like the team is gelling well, particularly pleasing is the form of Feliphe Gabriel, which makes me think we might not need a Glédson Robson replacement after all.

I also swapped Fábio Luiz and Adaílton around and it worked a treat with the former scoring 6 goals in the last 3 games of the month. Adaílton has much better finishing but he just doesnt have the physicals to be as effective as he was in the State Championship and the DLF(S) role plays more to his strengths. Fábio only has a finishing of 9 but has done OK. This made me realize that midfield is not my biggest priority signing, as we need to have an alternative option for Adaílton as he is 34 already.

Another busy month which starts with the Third Round of the Copa do Brasil. I think we stand little chance against Série A side Vitória, but considering the money involved we will give it a try. In Série B I hope we keep up the good form and finish inside the promotion places at the end of the month.

A tough month that sees us drop out of the promotion places. The Copa do Brasil tie was tough on us and sent us on a downward spiral. We were lucky to get the two wins we got and we are really struggling in front of goal. It has become clear we need better options up front, so I will focus on that once the Série B transfer window opens on July 15th.

This is the last month where we play twice a week, with the schedule easing up at the end of the month before we just go to one game a week from August. That will be very welcome as the squad is getting tired despite me rotating as much as possible.
