Ready to start the official league season.

I wanted to once again compare our standards to the rest of the league and see how we position. Season odds position us in 19th place at the end of the season, putting us in relegation zone. Plymouth right above us have the same odds.

We have the lowest average age of all the league and are slightly above average in terms of physical presence. Our average player wage is almost half of the average which is €3000 p/w (€8000 p/w max - Birmingham) and our average transfer value at 190K when the average is €5,5M and the Maximum is 31M  (!!!!!!!)(Charlton).

----

We have a very strong pair of Keepers compared to the league average.

In terms of defending, a key area where we lacked in the previous' season analysis, even though we're much better, we can see that the opposition has also improved. We lie 20th in terms of Tackling, Position and Marking. This is not a good sign, but we will conduct more specific analysis as I'm not so sure who the game classes as a pure defender, if we have any winger in the mix for example.

717381961_Screenshot2022-01-17at12_32_40.thumb.png.cbd0e99bb6b62489bec2eed3fa6d21c2.png

In terms of mental attributes, our defenders are slightly better served. We're over average in terms of Aggression, Anticipation and Work Rate. Bravery is 1 whole point below average while Concentration and Decisions are only around 0.3 below.

 1303170551_Screenshot2022-01-17at12_35_23.thumb.png.a54405980ab7453cd3fcc56f9177d6e9.png

A quick comparison of our 4 CB  (below) shows that the average in comparison to the league is kind of poor, we're under it in every aspect. Well actually 3 out of the 4 are under average, the new signing, Will Nightingale, is above in the attributes shown (as seen in the last line). Now we could say Godwin can somewhat compensate with his OK physicals and his ability to control but I'm not at all happy with that.

CB.png.393eb84505426359cc98b230ecf96316.png

We may wait until last moment and see if a deal can be done for someone more appropriate for this league standard's, maybe a loan move or a deadline day unexpected offer, I say this because we don't have many candidates due to our scouting department being overwhelmed with reports to be completed. We're lacking scouting depth due to our staff starting half way through the season in January and our lack of budget at the end of last season.

---

Here you can see how our squad fairs against the league averages in terms of DNA.

629117203_avgleage.png.14f1dc1defad90e7c73050b9e4d46856.png

We're slightly below average, as expected from a recently promoted team, but we're not that far off to be honest! It may be a struggle but it's something we're all expecting so I'm OK with the general image.

You can see last years L2 average vs this years L1 average HERE. A slight increase of around 0.5 per attribute, lastly, HERE is the comparison of our squad from both years. In general, there is also an increase in every attribute except natural fitness for defenders

In midfield, we are lacking Vision, we're 0.7 down on average in that department and 0.3 down on Stamina. The rest are pretty average.

In terms of attacking, our finishing is lacking in comparison to the league, this is also due to our Youngsters Ayoub Assal and Vaughn Covil bringing the average down. The rest of the attackers are right there between 11-12.

Great read this. Fantastic style of writing, great idea and a Great turn around first season! Love the double mezzala as well! Following

Thanks man! Not that sure about the writing but I do what I can!! I've had to deviate slightly from the double Mezz, at least for the beginning of the new season, but it has had positive results!!

I once had an idea with this club as well:

Trying to buy players with vegan or sustainable related names, e.g. Green, Flowers, Wind etc. and of course all their translations. I never tested the outcome of those searches, but could be funny to keep in mind!

Will definitely follow though!

What is going on?

1121668013_Screenshot2022-01-19at09_51_27.png.7b50a74364697b06e7df924832a88b52.png1283497513_Screenshot2022-01-19at09_51_52.thumb.png.acd620e8487da1c1500eab5e80cffabf.png

We have beaten Derby (4th in media prediction), QPR (1st in media prediction) and we previously beat Charlton (5th in media prediction) and lost 1-2 against Brentford (missing in images below). We have been absolutely clinical, something we had been searching for last season. We obviously have found the way for now, at least.

737909387_Screenshot2022-01-14at14_05_04.png.b5735756fda8e95e43c1df1dbfe0009d.png 1130657056_Screenshot2022-01-17at17_25_25.png.5e2d68bacb617fc78c36690ed165ad5c.png 1564047745_Screenshot2022-01-17at20_37_29.png.b1d94f186709c9b0ce2751b4fa2670f3.png 579393723_Screenshot2022-01-18at12_42_45.png.1f5b0619652fec173cf6c30b5d6e208f.png 917406701_Screenshot2022-01-18at13_50_11.png.b15bd3920c92321153792cd5b1add304.png

We dominated Lincoln City and although we had 20 shots, only 4 went on target, the other 4 blocked and 12 (!!) OFF target. The first goal came from a corner, the second one from TF J. Matt dropping deep to receive and performing a beautiful through pass between CBs for AML J. Young to finish at the near post. They scored a screamer from outside the area, from one of their 2 shots on target.

-----

I have been working on another tactic with a more sensible approach taking into account we no longer will be able to dominate in most matches. The spine is still there but we're not as aggressive when losing the ball and less aggressive engagement. In terms of TI, we have dropped the counter-press and much higher LOE. The first helps us defend in better shape because even though counter-pressing is great in theory, if you do not execute it to perfection you get punished, you get caught with the team completely out of shape.

The lower LOE (moved between low and std) combined with high DL makes the team defend in a very compact way, we're still using the offside trap and high line which maintains the risky approach we've always used. We some times defend narrower or std.

The mentality has gone from positive to balanced, after some reading through Cleon's articles and various posts I decided to give a try, the aim is to build in a more patient way, preventing players from hoofing up without support and allowing the team to move more as a block. After 5 or 6 matches I'm still tweaking a lot, but overall I've simplified TI as you can see.

1552002911_Screenshot2022-01-19at11_32_07.png.db8a8ef6c791b876145c55982016c67d.png  ---  2025157630_Screenshot2022-01-19at11_32_22.png.42d93c5676d56c76cfe5744082416bd7.png  ---  Screenshot-2.png.bc544d1e0d207dfc35b3edb4af94a26f.png

I've also been playing with player roles, the forward keeps moving from TF to DLF and TF again. Due to our players, we've always had a more attacking left side, Nicky Cadden is on FIRE on the left playing as a WB(S) and/or FB(A) while the attacking midfielder on the left plays as an IW or IF on attack depending on the player or match situation. This has made me move Hendry's Mezz (A) role into a much more conservative but hard working Carrilero role which helps a lot in defensive and support tasks. The right side is similar as last year, a FB(S) or IWB(S) supporting the overload with the MCR Mezz (A) and W (S).

Sadou Diallo at DM has been great, and even though he started as a DM(S) (with lots of freedom through PIs) I have moved him to DLP (S) for his ability to move and support laterally and also with his great passing (even though the attributes aren't great) and the natural DLP ball magnet to be able to switch the ball between both AM flanks as well as finding the TF.

-----

Amazingly, all this ranting you have just read worked against Derby County (A), QPR (H) and Wigan (A). We couldn't score against Wigan but we were still on top of them. We've scored 7 and received 1 in 4 games which is amazing. In preseason I thought it would have been in reverse to be honest!

Luke McGee, backup keeper last year has been absolutely on fire. This is in part because Lewis Thomas fractured his lower leg and is due to return at the end of september. On the other hand, we have Ayoub Assal, our 'star' AML who has been in AWFUL form. Except against Brentford where he scored a nice goal (but still scored 6.9) his avg rating is 6,46.

I'm kind of lost here, he has been training and developing really well in the short time he's been here, he has no concerns or unhappiness, he has tactical familiarity in pretty much all aspects, has no weird traits and is playing in a position/role he should be excelling at (just as Young, his backup is doing). He may need some more time adjusting to the team, but he played 32 matches in League One last season. The only thing I can see is that he is not part of the the core social group for now.

I have fined him for bad performances (with good reactions) and told him I have faith in him twice and he is happy! It is soon, let's see how the situation develops.

August 2022 Off-pitch update

We have managed to sign a new female Head Physio increasing the amount of women in the team. Also in the process of signing Lisa Fallon as a first team coach. It is really tough to find female staff outside of the medical department at the level we are at currently, the ones we can sign are not up to par, and the good ones don't want to join, yet.

1191510840_Screenshot2022-01-19at13_13_10.thumb.png.3d84a7239a9f5b99095e9be23cd3a0dc.png1671382965_Screenshot2022-01-19at13_07_26.thumb.png.c47078d28ab65a66966db40bd4f8e6b0.png

And finally we've had this happen!

1540689689_Screenshot2022-01-18at21_23_11.png.32b1fe557d214786dd586cb18937062c.png

Finally one more scout!! We've put that vacant to good use with Luciano Cánepa, he has accepted €300 p/w (!!) a contract, let's see if he will be allowed to join (work permit). We're now trying to fill up the U18s coaching team to prepare for this year's youth intake which will easily improve last years horrible intake. We also have Glenda joining as U18 coach, which will have 2 women out of 8 members. (I'm trying!!)

-----

We have signed Paul Downing on a free, he spent last season on loan in the 2nd Tier of the Scottish league at Inverness (on loan from Portsmouth were he played 9 matches in 3 years). He comes as a starter on DCR to replace U. Godwin Malife, who will move to the rotation role both as DCR as well as DR.

Dominic Bernard has moved on for a fee of €54K. He was a backup in DCR/DR, here you can see the big upgrade in terms of defending between him and Downing, the new signing.

And lastly the comparison between the previous starter U. Godwin Malife and new signing Paul Downing. You can clearly see Udoka is clearly much better suited to the FB role (even though he doesn't excel).

712056205_Screenshot2022-01-19at13_35_28.png.f4b9b04ee8c5b853b4545ba98a0e0108.png

Udoka has slightly better passing (+2) and First Touch (+1) but Downing has clearly better mentals and defending attributes as well as being as fast. Also Downing has no negative traits/attributes (consistency, big matches, etc).

Finally, we have poached a striker youngster from our affiliate, Oxford City. Alfie Richardson, nothing special, currently quite bad but has way more potential ability than any of the players we had in last years intake. So I'm happy with that, even if it only to develop him and sell him in the future.

----

Finally, I wanted to touch upon some training schedules I've been working on with inspiration from @_Ben_ and @crusadertsar. With the help of the lovely FM22 training planner (and tweaking it a bit) I have created some through observation and modification of other schedules. I'm still playing a lot but right now I'm testing these two for a few months:

2061470675_Screenshot2022-01-19at13_44_56.thumb.png.e2779135d005043c650ae3d89c0a1bb4.png

The first one is more intense, with some more physical focus and the second one is slightly more technical and less intense. Now some of the slots are changed for different opposition, for example, the tactical/match preparation training done before the match is switched between match tactics/def. position /att. movement. And also the last session of the week, the Extra session on Sunday is rotated, some times Rest, sometimes possession, goalkeeping, team bonding/comm. outreach...

In terms of team performance, it is working for now. I don't know if this training has anything to do with it though. Now let's see if in terms of development it works too.

September 2022 - Results

Bitter-sweet month. Well, bitter sweet if you take into account the performance vs results. If you compare it to the 'fight bravely against relegation' I think we're ok on the braveness front (+13 from relegation).

A tough match against 18th placed Fleetwood where we did not create much (useless possession) and scored from a FK. Crewe (16th) we did a bit better with an early low cross/through ball from the right side for Möller to run into the ball and score almost from outside the area. They punished our high line from a through ball in their left half space, Nathan Broadhead ran through our own half alone with our CB trying to catch up, rounded McGee and scored.

The heartbreaking result against Plymouth (9th)... 2-0 up and lost the lead in 2 minutes, 78 and 79. First one from a screamer from the edge of the half-circle of our area after a corner 2nd ball. Their second from a gift by the new CB Downing, a long pass over the midfield trying to find space, Downing brings down the ball and allows Burey to take it and run to goal.

The match against Charlton was a battle for 2nd place (us 3rd). We went down early in the match but managed to turn it around after going more aggressive. A long ball from their GK to the winger and a low cross to the penalty spot did it for them. 10 minutes later a great run from Kane Wilson through the middle of the pitch up to the edge of their area and our new AML, Harry Chapman (who I will introduce later on) buried it into the lower corner. The winner came from a penalty after a shove in a corner.

Only Oxford Utd (1st) and MK Dons (6th) and us remain unbeaten! We have a crazy amount of fixtures next month, while most of the opponents are mid-table or lower (except Sheff & MK Dons) it will be very tough and a big test to our squad depth!

At the start of the September, my scouting team prompted me with an interesting free agent, Harry Chapman. I immediately decided to take him on board on trial and see what he looked like in more detail.

Seeing as Ayoub Assal had definitely NOT performed in the 12 matches we have played with him and after comparing both players, two weeks later I decided to take Harry onboard on a free. He is a better player, of course at 24 has quite some more experience, both in L1 where he played 41 games last season with Burton Albion to playing a few (very few) games in the Championship with Blackburn.

Harry is rated currently as a leading L1 player while Assal is L1 standard, they both are potentially Good EFL Championship players.

Harry Chapman          -          Ayoub Assal

473264576_Screenshot2022-01-21at15_16_08.thumb.png.eeb91dabbd8056d2d0ea3b4b4f081052.png

The only downsides to Harry are his decision making which is quite low as well as off the ball (not as bad) but he has better anticipation, composure and overall shooting/finishing ability. Now I'm doing this update mid way October and after playing a few games. You can definitely see the impact Harry has made in only 5 games with 3 goals and double key passes per game than Ayoub.

502420639_Screenshot2022-01-21at15_22_05.thumb.png.cec76942ca3eb9563c915a13251919c9.png

I will continue easing Ayoub into the team and trying to develop him in the future. His perfectionist personality and his ability to play with both feet (Fairly strong left, very strong right) are really appealing and something that encourages me to keep trying with him, even if it's just to cash in in the future (which goes in line with the 'sign players to sell for a profit team philosophy').

Think Ayoub definitely still has a lot to offer! Chapmans technicals are better but really other than that Ayoub beats him on some really crucial attributes, decisions and off the ball are really good.

Yes you're right, but I don't know why he is not performing at all. And others in his place do. He has quite a few traits but nothing weird for an IF or IW. Moves into channels, gets forward when possible, likes to try to beat the offside trap, likes to round the keeper. These last two I'm not so fond of, but he should be able to perform them with his attributes. He just misses many simple passes, many passing options, and clear chances.

i would say that mostly comes down to his lack of composure on the ball and probably poor anticipation for the passes not reading the game.

Yes, certainly has to be that. Jake Young, the backup has been way better and is only (slightly) better in terms of composure.

Just give him time and games i reckon! Personally I like the rounds keeper trait too.

Yes, this is the plan! To slowly ease him into the the team and see if it works out!

October 2022

We were certainly not thinking about a relegation battle, what should we be looking for now? Certainly top half would be like winning UCL for the board but we have won or drawn against 8 of the top 10 and we have not yet played against the 2 we have left (Doncaster 7th & Birmingham 10th). The top 5 teams are really close and we're only a quarter of the way through the season but I don't see how we cannot at least aim for promotions spots with how things have gone so far. Promotion may be aiming too high in terms of what would happen in the Championship but I think that at this point with the results achieved it is reasonable to aim for it.

According to predictions, fighting against relegation should position us around 20th position with around 10 points, 1/3 of what we currently have.

We have repeatedly been selling out the whole stadium in matches at home (5.009), 6 out of 9 matches with a stadium full to the brim. This hasn't stopped us from bottling it hard against last position Morecambe (first going down early 0-1 and then allowing the 2-2 with 10 minutes left) at our own ground. We have already qualified for the next round of EFL Trophy which gives us a bit of breathing space for the 2 matches remaining.

Below you can see the 'stats' from a few (tough) games.

1497666044_Screenshot2022-01-20at19_39_47.png.9f372c6a595fcab25ff292175da466c5.png 12180541_Screenshot2022-01-21at12_42_16.png.110c524b45003f9fcf8c5f4eb98c7f6a.png 516983994_Screenshot2022-01-21at14_10_40.png.4edb0e7ce5445243eff7a75808dd1ed3.png 1904588612_Screenshot2022-01-21at15_59_05.png.15f594d52b1df40ddfaf84b577d48a73.png 1640039399_Screenshot2022-01-21at16_42_28.png.fe17fbcd90d968178d6c0122a4f18516.png

Now in general we have enjoyed bigger amounts of possession and shots than our opposition but according to xG we have been extra clinical. Although it is not the definite statistic to see how we perform, it gives a general idea and shows how, even though we still haven't lost in the league, we're having to fight a lot in every match. We have been extra clinical in some matches but have also conceded goals from low xG.

In October we have scored 15 goals from 10 xG and conceded 8 from 9 xG. It seems like we've bounced back quite a lot in terms of chance conversion, may I remember last season were we scored 6 from 12 xG.

-----

Away from the matches, the mentoring groups are starting to take some effect on our rotation 18 y/o LB Jeremy Kyezu. He has been training with the experienced Professional CB Will Nightingale, he is mentoring both Kyezu and the other youngster, Khalon Haysman (DM), both came from the Tottenham academy on a free.

Sit top of the pile at this stage I think you would have to desire at least a playoff space. But I feel with your run of results and the way you are winning these games you could easily take the title.

Sit top of the pile at this stage I think you would have to desire at least a playoff space. But I feel with your run of results and the way you are winning these games you could easily take the title.

I'm giving myself some room until December, we will reevaluate then.... but if things go in the same direction, yes I don't see why not!!

5 league wins... FA and EFL Trophy wins...

The gap to 7th place has increased to 14 points from 8. Except the last cup match, we've been much more dominant, I've opted to (somewhat) reverse to the more positive and intense tactic we used last season and it has worked pretty well. I tamed it down for the new league but seeing how things have been going I thought i'd give it a try and it has certainly worked.

As I said before, an overall much better showing/dominance except for the Bristol Rovers where they literally got FM'd.

The only real hiccup is the following news (as of Dec 1st):

On-loan ST Niko Möller out for the rest of the season and our main striker Jamile Matt out for the month of December. We're left with 3rd option striker Josh March for the month (8 games) and maybe out of favor Ayoub Assal which I previously talked about.

Jack Roles has been on fire as an MCR Mezzala (playing double Mezzala's in CM) with 5G/A in 5 matches so hopefully others can contribute with the decrease in striker quality. POTM award below.

Argentina, Czech Rep. and Spain got knocked out in the group stages. Both Argentina and Czech Rep were beaten by Congo...! Spain had a very tough group. Out of the groups, England and Belgium had good runs until semis.

December 2022

There's no turning back. We must go for the title, or automatic promotion, at least. :idiot:

We won against Oxford (4th), Birmingham (7th) and our league rivals Sheffield United (2nd). These are the most notable wins, we only skipped a beat against Bottom of the table Bolton Wanderers at home (again).

378925744_Screenshot2022-01-26at17_43_19.png.a75f9a99165b3ff0f2ff58b9ff2566c4.png 1325575527_Screenshot2022-01-26at18_54_36.png.f510c6cd7662b9cd1b45d73ea53894e8.png 705386459_Screenshot2022-01-26at20_17_54.png.61f0645e3f69719eaa8e438ba392ae6b.png 1545380181_Screenshot2022-01-27at11_32_38.png.b183fa1dc6abfba2a3dc6b18e94fda1c.png 984090805_Screenshot2022-01-27at16_09_34.png.aad7207342e0832964b507e80e281eac.png

18 goals scored in 9 games and 3 conceded. I'm absolutely amazed at the run of games we've achieved. We still have 20 games to play but we have a 10 point game to Sheffield and 24 (!!) to 7th Rotherham. Promotion fight is secured pretty much, now the fight is for the title/automatic promotion. We have set a new team record with 30 games unbeaten.

Jack Roles has won League 1 POTM once again, with 3G/3A in 6 games.

----

Pretty sad youth intake preview... One promising CB and that's it. And I'm guessing it won't be promising at all. I'd love to push hard for a better youth system but with our current economy it is completely impossible. The only thing I can do is try to poach from our affiliates and maybe from other smaller teams.

74113639_Screenshot2022-01-26at18_14_48.thumb.png.84ef205e8ee5ce9a00031565a4c89958.png

We have renewed the contracts for two of the youngsters, Vaughn Covil (AMR) and Khalon Haysman (DM) who has been playing and developing really well. They're only earning 400 p/w and €500 p/w respectively and the latter is playing at least one or two matches a week.

Thanks! Yeah, I really thought it would be way tougher but we've somehow kept getting better. We have 2 or 3 cup games next month, one of which is against 4th placed in the Championship Reading. A real test of our actual level!

And also winter transfer window, I'm debating on what to do with the Striker position, seeing as Niko Möller is on a 6 month injury I will try to cancel the loan and let him go back to Arsenal where he will probably receive better treatment and will also free us of his €2K p/w wages. The option is to find another suitable loan or just keep going with Josh March who started really well December with 4 goals in 2 matches but did not score in the following 6.

January 2023

We have been defeated. Twice.:stop:

45461249_Screenshot2022-02-03at14_09_12.thumb.png.269b29c9d8c9feefbfaf159068d04b70.png 763550803_Screenshot2022-02-03at14_09_26.png.653545074c0ef3e48c5e1c5e1710d48c.png

Obviously, the first two defeats of the season (in league) are painful, even more if it's against 23rd Morecambe. I'm not that worried because this came after an amazing 3-0 win against 4th placed in Championship Reading FC to advance into the FA Cup 4th Round. Our right winger Forde completely ran the game, a cross from the edge of the area for Mezzala Hendry to score a header. A diagonal run into the area to intercept a lovely through ball from CF Jamile Matt...

And finally a lovely assist for Jack Roles to tap it in...   :idiot:

We did not appear against MK Dons, our best player was CB Dan Sweeney. After that, a solid 3 wins, most notably against 5th placed Charlton (cup game) and 3rd placed (at the time) Crewe. 7 wins out of 9 matches is still absurd and just shows that we are really fighting for the league win with 2nd placed Sheffield United still at a 10 points distance.

But most importantly, we are clear of relegation!! Not that I was worried anymore, but it's always nice to receive these messages.

January Transfer Update

194007748_Screenshot2022-02-03at13_46_45.thumb.png.834a238bdd010868348d389daec62e59.png

I had not planned to do any first team signings in January. Maybe test waters for a possible loan but it didn't end up happening. What happened in the end is that Lewis Thomas, first XI GK last year and sub this year asked for a move away because he felt he was not of the level required. In came free agent Moritz Nicolas, 25 y/o german who is pretty much on par to Lewis.

188163597_Screenshot2022-02-03at16_23_06.png.ea9daed225da6fa42326f833bf1a6c98.png

Click for attribute comparison

Moritz is slightly superior mentally although way worse in terms of DET. He is classified as slightly worse shot stopper, it must be down to the reflexes, but they're equal I'd say. In terms of wages, Moritz is being paid €700 more p/w (€1,9K) but I'm completely fine with this, it's a completely fine wage for such a player in the current position we're in, if anything Lewis Thomas was being under-paid.

I decided to go shopping to our affiliate Gloucester City for some youngsters. Seeing as our U18 level is SO low I decided to 'poach' the only noteworthy (they're still completely average) players from our affiliate U18 team. GK Mo Lines, FB Stephen Deasy, Winger Nicky Travis. My only hope is that they somehow develop and we can then sell them for something more than we paid for them. Any kind of money will be welcome. They're already being tutored by 'professional' CB and on custom training schedules.

457111624_Screenshot2022-02-03at16_36_05.thumb.png.b563e4c1363525a263a10467cc8aa436.png

This is the level, only Alfie Richardson (poached) and the 3 signings I just mentioned have at least 3 star potential (and not even that probably). Our youth level has gone up by one this season but we won't see this in the intake obviously. We have a lot of work to do in this regard, and it's something I really want to do but our economy doesn't allow for this.

Oh and I loaned out both backup AMRs, Opi will just not cut it and Vaughn will need a lot of development to perform, but I doubt he will ever get to Championship level.

We put up a great fight against Everton, but we were never going to win it. We scored a great goal against them, TF Matt dropped deep allowing MCL Mezzala Stevenson to run from deep and shoot from outside the area to score a banger. Their second came from the penalty spot so their xG is actually buffed.

The 3 young players we signed have all been progressing both on and off the pitch. In order Kyezu (LB - progress), Haysman (DM - progress), Brooke (CM - progress). They're set up in a mentoring group lead by Professional CB Will Nightingale and they seem to have been slowly picking up mostly positive attributes.

Jeremy Kyezu, the LB, has managed 5 goals and 3 assists in 19 (14) apps. He has been working on his ball control as well as crossing, even though, playing as an IWB and really playing through the centre he is not required to cross that much. His mentals have progressed quite well, his ball control not so much, he is now working exclusively on that to see if we can boost it a little.

Khalon Haysman has achieved better progress in all aspects. His ball control has all gone up by one, as well as passing ability and his decision making and mental. He has not performed (rating wise) as well as Kyezu but I'm really happy with him, he has solid defending ability for someone his age and is much better at it than the other DM Sadou Diallo (whilst still improving his offensive facet). 1G+1A in 19 apps. Diallo has 2+2 in 26 apps.

Lastly, Harry Brooke has had less appearances (7(8)) than the other two, mainly because he is the 5th player in line for any of the CM places, so essentially he has had lots of competition. He has improved on most of the attributes required for his position while dropping in other attributes which I'm not so fond of.

What I must say I'm most happy with is how they have all progressed greatly since around September-October. I want to think it is in part because of the new training schedules I have tweaked/created but I really don't know. I will look further into it in pre-season to see how we can improve even more. And lastly we have to take into account that these are not wonderkids in any case, but they're good enough youngsters for us and thus their development is really welcome.

-----

Off the pitch, the scouting team has been working hard. I have assigned them to find any suitable end of contract players from the bottom 7 teams (fighting to avoid relegation) of the EFL Championship. Right now I'm not looking for anything specific but I want to have the knowledge of their players in case I can or need to find an adequate player with experience in that league, where we'll most likely be playing next season. Once I have a complete knowledge of those players I may expand to possible loan options or even unhappy or listed players (once they've been relegated) but I doubt I will be paying for any player. My aim is to find free-agent or players with expiring contracts and earn a profit in the future (sustainability).

Hey Roger, I've just started posting a story about Forest Green Rovers and I see you're well ahead of me (by 20 years, 'arf 'arf!). Other than the opening intros (yours shows really impressive and interesting background), our careers are completely different, but I hope readers here find they complement each other. I'll be ploughing through yours from the start and will follow all your updates.

March 2023

Productive month!

We have a booked our place in the EFL Trophy Papa John's Trophy at Wembley the 2nd of April! And I think we can say we have booked our place to win the league too. We have 6 matches left and depending on Sheffield and Crewe's result we could already be champions and if not, we could be in our next game against Wigan at home. To be honest we can already taste the title, even if it's not the next game I'm confident it'll be the next one.

575997185_Screenshot2022-02-08at13_13_18.png.f8e3d964987de71cf17adad0e4ba37e6.png 107764021_Screenshot2022-02-08at14_31_03.png.4b6d64b894d0052705e7e3b91f48dc4a.png 857138022_Screenshot2022-02-08at17_10_46.png.0b31312b1a4caff6eaa5fb468fa33038.png 211830633_Screenshot2022-02-08at18_07_52.png.cc3b28fb8522d918c6267fa4d3f72ae3.png

We really missed our chances against Derby. They turned the game around in 2 minutes and we ended up securing a 2-2 draw late in the game. A cruise against Lincoln away, more domination from our side!

The youth intake has arrived!

1247820947_Screenshot2022-02-10at17_30_27.thumb.png.606831525678d74164bcf5c5e7bd34b8.png 784346044_Screenshot2022-02-10at17_27_59.png.5cb414f0b6564bdd431c24453817afc9.png

Pretty sad.

We have 5 local players but you can see them at the bottom of the list (ordered by potential). Of the top 8 players, if we check the personality, we have 2 low determination, 1 balanced, a mercenary and an unambitious.

Harvey Lambert looks the best in terms of DNA and potential but a media-friendly mercenary... Ryan Smith looks like he could become an OK player, his personality is OK and he has very strong and strong feet. All the players have been put on custom training regimes to hopefully do something with them.

I won't extend myself with this because there is not much point in it, I just hope we can 'develop' a few of them and then earn a profit in the future. At least to start compensating the investment required to upgrade both youth and training facilities, which we really need.

Next update will hopefully provide some silverware! The first for Drama as FGR manager!

So true! :D Ok ok I will accept it. And even though most or all players are subpar, I will still try hard to develop them to at least make some kind of profit to reinvest into the youth setup.

109 points!! We've obliterated records, both club and league. 33 wins is a new record (previous 32). Crewe have been immense in the second stage of the league moving up slowly up to 2nd place (as you can see in league past positions). Sheffield, on the other hand, lost their automatic promotion with 5 matches left after being half season right behind us. We have maintained our for in both halves of the league with 55 and 54 points respectively.

Pretty unbelievable statistics here as you can see. 39 shots, 17 on target(15 OFF), 7 shots blocked, 3 hit the post, 0 goals. Luckily they missed 2 penalties. In the league, we've keep our form going, handing opportunities to youngster Harry Brooke who had previously not featured as much, he has been a bit of a hit & miss but we didn't have anything to lose.

4W 1D 1L out of 6 matches. We ended with a hiccup against Oxford, our 3rd loss of the season in the league, pretty good in 46 matches.

I've been pushing hard for Jamile Matt, our top scorer to beat the current FGR all time league goal scorer Christian Doidge (former player) but in the end he couldn't manage to do it this season. He'll have plenty of time next season, even though he probably won't be first choice ST, but ideally I'd like to keep him for at least another season. He has scored 27 goals + 7 assists in 45 apps this season, pretty good for a 33 y/o with pretty average technicals.

Matt has been the league top scorer with 23 goals and Kane Wilson (our RB) has had the best avg rating with 7,46. STATS

The only bad news we've had is this, Jack's injury will see him out until around mid October, a shame he'll lose pre-season. He has been on fire this year.

Off the pitch, we've had some news too. We have received a whopping €29,24K for winning the Sky Bet League One.

A few days later I decided to go into the staff screen and was surprised by the fact that we've been granted space for: 2 Coaches (U18s too), Technical Director, 3 Scouts, 1 Recruitment Analyst, 1 Physio. Now, I hadn't previously asked for any of that due to us having a more than good enough backroom staff in comparison to the league (as you can see below)

I have immediately filled the physio vacant with Karen Gibson and I have offered contracts to 2 scouts suggested by the board to increase the capacity to turn out reports for this coming summer window. I will wait to sign the rest of the vacants when I have an idea of how our staff fares against the Championship standard.

We have also increased the scouting range to be able to scout around Europe! And offered a Coaching course to Jordan Spence and Adebayo Akinfewa, U23 Manager and Ass Managers!

I will update once we have the end of season stats!

I may have avoided this one for a bit simply due to the name. (I’m all for the diet and philosophy/lifestyle but have come across too many insufferable vegans…). But then my curiosity got the better of me and I had to see what Vegan Football looked like and I’m glad I did. Great story, great potential, and all the sustainability stuff is fantastic. Didn’t know about the club but really like what they’re trying to do.

Congrats on back to back promotions. The Championship is tricky as I’ve found with Portsmouth, but you’re doing a great job of building a coherent club vision and that’s key to success. I can see you getting to the Premier League after a season or two of consolidation in the Championship. No matter what though, it seems like you’re rapidly outgrowing that proposed stadium before it’s even been built!

Big step up this year. But stranger things have happened

Yeah! We'll see, I'm going towards not touching the current squad much (but I'm sure this will change half way through summer window ).

Thanks for the comments!! I didn't really know them before and I was quite pleased too tbh. I'm really looking forward to the Championship and its challenges because last season ended up being quite dull with the 'domination'.

We have certainly already outgrown the current stadium and the next stadium, which is the Eco Park. I just saw (don't recall if I stated in the first posts already but I forgot) it initially has 5000 seats (current one has 2000 seats but 5000 capacity). We certainly will have to upgrade as soon as we go into it as we sold out the current stadium (5009 capacity) for most part of the this League One season. We managed to sell out the full stadium (5009) in 18 home games,  7 games with over 4500 spectators out of 31 home games. Average attendance 2020/21 and 2021/22.

Well, before taking this short break I've been having long excel sessions trying to figure out stuff. This is completely WIP and I'm still trying to figure out most stuff but I thought I'd post it to have some activity around here. With all this stats/moneyball hype going around the careers forum (@Shrewnaldo, @_Ben_, @SixPointer, etc...) I had to dig further into it.

I've been building a table that extracts the stats from my squad and compares it to the average of the league, but it is comparing it by position. So the passing statistic from my GK is compared to the rest of the leagues GK and not with the rest of the positions. Now this is not accurate 100% because I am classifying players by scout best position opinion which doesn't mean the player is really playing there but it's much better than comparing to complete pool of players. For GK this is not a problem really but for midfielders the pool is much bigger, you can have really defensive or attacking CMs, or CMs playing as DM/AM or the other way around and thus stats are not so accurate, but then again, at least I'm not comparing CBs to AMs/ST passing statistics or header attempted/won ratios.

For each stat and player, we have the actual number and also the percentile within the league. At first glance it can look quite packed and it actually is, out of the 26 columns I want to end up with at most half. The greyed out columns are simply not worked on yet. I want to work more on stats or compilation of stats that give an overview of the player instead of just looking at rough stats. By this I mean KPI's such as defensive actions (7th column) or Attacking chances and Att. output (19th & 20th) instead of tackles or shots and xG.

The next table is for me to find suitable replacements for positions in my team. I can write the name of my teams player in the yellow boxes and the filter by KPIs/stats. You cannot see the data filter arrows because of the screenshot (they're right below the averages row). In this example I have filtered by minutes (500+), npxG (0,3+) and Att Chances/90(npxG + Chances C - 0,75+). Oh and contracts ending in 2023 and 2024. This outputs those 3 players.

Again, I'm still working on those stats/KPIs I want to filter by but this is an example of what I'm trying to do. All completely automatic by the way. I only had to import all League One players (in this case).

That’s some serious work you’ve put in there! I love how people are doing all this statistical work and again I feel SI will be taking notice and using it to further improve the data hub!

Love this @RogerC! Going to take a deeper look but I definitely love the combination of statistics to create offensive/defensive actions. Opens up a new can of worms if you then consider weighting any of them, for example!

Hopefully they look at some of the threads over here!! When I'm happy with how the table looks I want to 'release' it so people can tinker with it and see if we can improve it! My main aim is to make it as plug & play as possible so that with minimal instructions anyone can use it. And also make the table customisable with dropdown options so you can choose any stat available.

Slow process though, hehe.
