Naboulet
Hello guys, I write to you today to share with you my feelings about FM. I'm a noob. I play since FM19 and I read a tons of guides to learn to play since I had 0 football culture when I started playing FM. I started to love the gestion part and I kept playing. I started winning with gegenpress 4-2-3-1, got my CL and was happy about it. I was bored to win with the same tactics so i tried to play with new teams, new leagues. That was fun for a while then I tried to win with constraints and It was fun to try to find the solution but I've been punished in every attempt in FM 22 : - Only recruit guys of 1m90 - Play with the most compact defensive block (narrow block and Lower LOE and Higher DL) - Discover carrilero - Discover Lateral Midfielder - Play with 4-5-1 with one AMC and 2 DM Well you got the idea. I try to have constraints to have fun. But it's not working. All my tactics work for a while then i get brutally punished and I get sacked. Getting sacked isn't fun. I just feel like I lost plenty of hours. I'm even lost in the creation of tactics. When I read and watch contents of tactics creation, I read people talking about duties balance and all. Having one winger on support, the other on attack, same for fullback. When I read tactics topic, I just see people with 5 attack duties and like 2 support duties and 2 def duties. So I wanted to have yours recommandations of expert players. Should I just go with preset tactics? Should I buy the editor and lock the option not to get sacked ? Thanks for yours thoughs by advance. Pattric_b
At the end of the day it’s just a game and if you aren’t haven’t fun playing it, I would take some time off. As far as tactics go, you don’t need to be an expert to create a decent working tactic. Look at the preset tactics and try to understand why they have picked specific roles and duties for specific presets. Try to keep it simple at first identify exactly how you want the team to play in possession, in transition and out of possession. Then once you understand how the match engine works and you start seeing patterns in your play, you can adjust it. It also depends what team you select. The piece of advice you had read with one winger on attack and one on support is a true thing, if you want to have a BALANCE tactic. On the other hand, sometimes, you need to unbalance your tactic to make it work (due to your reputation, your players, your style and so on). As an example, you can look at Ajax IRL which is not balanced at all. Balanced tactics have one purpose : maximize your strenghts and minimize your weaknesses. Sometimes, you have to focus on your strenghts even if it exposes your weaknesses much more ! As patricc kinda say, maybe you play to much ? I’m playing since the Beta but i’m still at season 2, while other players are already at season 4 or 5 ! My advice to not get borred is to link my passion for Football IRL with FM. I see that more and more teams are playing with a back 3. I have never done a back 3 tactics before FM22, because it wasn’t my cup of tea. during Season 1, I had 2 main tactics : one was a traditional 442, and the other one was an experimental back 3 (3412), that I try to master during the whole season. Now, I only play with a Back 3 (352), and I totally love it ! I’m already thinking about a 3421. I also never had the chance to make IW/IF my main goal scorer on FM : I know that i’m going to work on that (maybe with a 433). all of that to say : take your time. The most important thing is to have fun. If you don’t, just drop it and come back later
Naboulet
Hey Pattrick, Hey CKBrah, Thanks for taking the time to answer to me. Maybe i'm taking too much on this game but I really don't think so. I got my business, my handball club as a volunteer, my readings... It's just that I'm really frustrated because I feel like I don't have any feedback about what I'm doing poorly. I accept the fact that I'm bad, I just feel like that I should be pushed in the good direction when I'm trying new things to explore this game. Thanks for the thoughts about the need to balance or not your tactic. I had never thought about that. I totally agree with yours last sentences about three at the back or IF as main scorer. I always try things like that too. But when I lose i'm like "ok what did I do wrong? I dunno. I just lost". Thanks again for yours answers lads. Thats actually a big weakness of football manager. if you are not familar with tactical elements of football at least to some extend and dont really know how to read the data provided by the game its very hard to understand why thing may not work. But sometimes a loose is just a loose, or a stupid goal is just a stupid goal. so its always a good idea to watch out for repeating patters. If there is a certain situation that occurs many times in a match or maybe even over a course of some matches (lets say 3) you may get an idead of whats the problem. Just a few examples: if your beeing played over the top repeatingly your defensive line might be too high if you are being caged into your box against similar opponents your Pressing and Line settings might be too conservative If your players just play around the others team box and cant get through or always play out wide for no nonsense cross, you might be on a too low tempo or not direct enough with your passing I think you get what i mean. Thats how i approach my new tactics, i always look out for repeating patterns that i dont like.

It is okay to struggle a little bit when creating a tactic ! What I suggest to you is to create it during pre-season with friendlies. Don’t look if you win (normaly, you do). Don’t look how many goals you scored, how many shots are on target. Why ? Because most of the time, you’re facing weaker teams during the pre-season. You should focus on how your team plays with the tactics. Do you like their movements ? Do you like how they pass the ball, how they create chances and so on. Too many players try to finish pre-season as fast as they can, while it is one of the most important moment of the season for me. About the results, I apply the Wenger rule during his time at Arsenal. If you loose one game, it’s the players. If you’re loosing for three games, it’s your tactic. Don’t be afraid to post your tactic and the datas if you need a hand !
