English Teams: B/Reserve/Youth Team

Recommended Posts

Hello. Quick question!

When I go to the board (I'm an English Premier League team), I can make a board request for a B/Reserve/Youth Team under Networking. I have no idea what this is and was wondering if someone could explain it... If I've posted this in the wrong place, I apologize in advance!

Thank you.

Well, most teams already have a youth squad that allows your youngsters to play. In fact, I'm not sure I've seen any that don't. The ages involved vary from country to country. Larger teams face an issue, though. Once those youth players hit a certain point, they stop developing in the youth leagues, and need new challenges. You can send them out on loan to lower division teams, but that can be inconvenient, because you might want to keep them around and have more control over their training, which is likely at much better facilities and with much better coaches than some semi-pro team can offer. You also might like the cut of some player, but want to retrain him to a new position. Or, you might just want to gather some decent talent that will help you reform your team shape and tactics entirely at some point, but need them trained up a bit first. Lots of reasons you might want players around who don't currently start or sub in your first team. This is where reserve teams come in, and depending on the country, they may or may not be available, or are restricted to certain age groups. In England you really just have U18's and U23's. They play in their own separate leagues. In some countries they don't have separate leagues, and you'll see reserve teams compete in the same league structure, but be unable to compete in the same division as the senior team. Some countries have age restrictions, whereas others don't. The board is obviously not going to start a new team if it doesn't match the allowable rules of the country you are in.

That's curious. I'm no expert on England by any means, but I thought the professional development leagues only offered U23 and U18. Did it allow you to actually create a U19? If so, I'd be curious to know what league it would be in, as England U19 doesn't seem to really exist in my game. It has a placeholder for a U19 competition, but there's no rules or teams in said competition.

I was also curious  about the u-19 team on my United-save and i requested one to my board to see what would happen. They thought it to be a wonderful idea and now i have a u-19 team😂 No games nothing, only thing that happens is that they spam coach-suggestions on the meetings for the u-19 team.

Sounds like it might be a bug. The only time English clubs field U19 sides that I'm aware of is in the UEFA Youth League.

If it was a bug, surely it would have been reported already?

I think I'll just ignore it till I find some more info!
