Season 7 and WOW... We were so so very close. But for a 94th minute goal by Eintracht Braunschweig, we would have made the 1.Bundesliga Promotion/Relegation Playoff. A magnificent effort this season, not least since we ended up losing 8 first team players in the two transfer windows, saw us finish 4th in 2.Bundesliga, a record finish for the club, and miss out on the playoffs on goal difference. We also finished 4th on Goals Scored, but a disappointing 12th on Goals Conceded. Took us 4 seasons to get out of the 3.Bundesliga. Could it take us 4 to get out of 2?

Season 8 is upon us. It took us 4 seasons to get out of 3.Bundesliga. Could this be the lucky season for us? The board want us Mid-Table in 2.Bundesliga and to reach the Second Round of the DfB Pokal. Standard stuff. We've also been given a supercharged wage budget of £176k and a whopping £8.3m transfer budget. With all of our improvements coming in, could we get a decent intake finally?

Our July 1 line up just has the ONE non-DNA player in it now, however, that one player is our all-time appearance holder and I'm considering resigning him so he can finish his career with us. Choices.

Now we're over 5 years into the game and this save is all about trying to get the cream of youth into the team, we'll start to look at my historical youth intakes. At the end of every season, I'll go back and look at an intake from my time here at Viktoria Berlin and see if the key prospects worked out? Or if they flamed out, never to be seen again.

So, for this edition, let's look at the Class of 2023 intake

We'll concentrate on the Top 3 DNA prospects, unless there are any notable deviations. The key prospects in this intake were defensive midfielder Richard Pieckenhagen, midfielder Nils Hartmann and goalkeeper Andre Backhaus

Richard Pieckenhagen

Then. 15 years old, FC Viktoria 1899 Berlin

Now. 21 years old, FC Viktoria 1899 Berlin

Another player that is still at the club, Richard has made 49 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 3 goals and assisting 6 times for an average rating of 6.82. This season, however, Richard was loaned out to 3.Bundesliga's FV Illertissen where he is yet to make an appearance. In terms of silverware, Richard was the recipient of the 2026/27 German U-19 Player of the Year award 

 

Nils Hartmann

Then. 15 years old, FC Viktoria 1899 Berlin

Now. 21 years old, FC Viktoria 1899 Berlin

Nils was one of the brighter prospects we had and he has developed brilliantly, but never really found a first team role. He has currently made 45 appearances in all competitions, scoring 4 goals and assisting twice for an average rating of 6.70. He also spent the 2027/28 season on loan to FC Erzgebirge Aue in the 3.Bundesliga, where he made 37 appearances, scoring 3 goals and assisting 5 times for an average rating of 6.86. Nils has appeared for Germany at U-20 level and was the runner up for the 2026/27 German U-19 Player of the Year.

 

André Backhaus

Then. 16 years old, FC Viktoria 1899 Berlin

Now. 21 years old, VfL Bochum

Andre was a bit 'best of a bad bunch' and whilst at the club, he never made a first-team appearance, despite apppearing 72 times for the FC Viktoria 1899 Berlin II side. In the summer of 2027, however, he moved to fellow 2.Bundesliga side VfL Bochum for £250k and, this season, made his debut for them as a substitute in a 1.Bundesliga match against Hertha Berlin SC, conceding one goal late on for a rating of 6.4 

So, we have two out of three prospects still at the club and the other is at a team in a higher league. Not bad.

The Boy from Brazil has entered the building. Was alerted to him on the last deadline day and spent a pretty penny having someone scout him. Finally took the plunge and liked what I saw!

WELCOME HOME KARL! Although it feels like he never left, as after his £1m move to France, he came back on loan for 3 seasons and eventually re-signed for us on a free

• DLC/WB/M/AML Niko Takahashi (£1.4m, Leicester City) Work Rate: 12, Pace 15, Technique: 13 - DNA: PASSED

After we were brutally raided for Big Willi Style, we needed left sided cover and fast. Thankfully, Niko was available for half the price!

• GK Pejo Tomíček (Free Transfer) Work Rate: 7, Pace 6 - DNA: FAILED

Due to circumstances and lack of talent in the youth team, we needed a third choice keeper and my scouts unearthed this Croatian gem.

• DRLC/DM Alfousseiny Coulibaly (£550k, 1.Union Berlin) Work Rate: 12, Pace 14, Technique: 11 - DNA: PASSED

I was getting a little antsy at the end of the transfer window and moved to snap up some centre-back cover from our local rivals.

We also welcomed back former players in on loan in the shape of wingers Luis Javier from Feyenoord Rotterdam and  Jamie Bynoe-Gittens from Brentford, along with right sided defender Bigger Tshiubuabua from Everton.

MC/AMC Laurent François (£1.5m, ES Troyes AC)

DC Luca Denk (£100k, SV Darmstadt 98)

GK Marian Prinz (£1.5m, SV Werder Bremen)

Looks like we have a ready-made defence coming in and with our new upgrades, it's *looking* good!

Some VERY misleading stats this season, unless you look at them properly. For example, our Possession stats have us in the average category, yet we are reliable in possession, just infrequently win the ball. That, coupled with our Passing stat that has us the best in the league by an entire continent and it says that we get the ball and do not let it go. Our Scoring, Shooting and Attacking Efficiency all say we're not really trying when it comes to goals, but we are taking our good chances when they come, which is all anyone wants tbh. Our Crossing & Aerial stats are as bad as ever, but our Tackling is producing strong tackles which is a marked improvement for us. Our Defensive Efficiency and our Goalkeeping have us at one of the best defences in the league which is lovely. Sadly, we are UNDERPERFORMING our xG for once, at -4.6, outperforming our xPts at 4.6 pts better off and one place underperforming our xPts Pos in 5th.

Well we were inundated with offers for players this window. Luckily, they all were pretty poor offers for what we had. Only for Borussia Dortmund to come in and take our most talented player for a club transfer record £10m. Dammit.

So, our 2029 academy scholars came in. Thanks to more improvements, we're at Exceptional Youth Coaching and Excellent Youth Recruitment. As ever, we will sign all the youth players and work on their flaws. When it comes to professional contracts, it'll be only the DNA qualifiers that get a contract.

It's again, not the best. I'm really worried our team reputation is holding us back with regards to getting good level players in through our academy.

Anyway, let's look at our Top 3 DNA Prospects

• DC Kerem Erdem - Work Rate: 12, Pace 12, Technique: 11 - DNA: PASSED

Passes the DNA threshold, but he doesn't look like he's going to flourish.

• MC/ST Simon Engel - Work Rate: 14, Pace 14, Technique: 11 - DNA: PASSED

Also passes the DNA threshold, but he'll have to improve a hell of a lot to come through into the first team

• DRC Mertin Dereli - Work Rate: 15, Pace 13, Technique: 10 - DNA: PASSED

Same as the last two. This is really thin pickings and I'm really hoping we can improve our standing in the country

I think you take promotion and try and Get it if your roundabout that zone. Then try as hard to grasp the opportunity presented to you no matter how it’s achieved.

I think a lot of your issues with youth intake are due to only being the third (at best?) most reputable club in your own city, let alone region (why join Barnet's academy if you're good enough to play for Arsenal?). All the best local talents will be playing elsewhere for sure. So being in the top tier now will help with that at least!

A stunned silence. Wow. Wow. WOWOWOWOWOWOW. WE ARE 2.BUNDESLIGA CHAMPIONS!!  An absolute stunning season for us sees us take 1st in 2.Bundesliga, three points clear of city rivals 1.Union Berlin. We also went further in the DfB Pokal than we ever had before, making it into the Third Round before falling to our other rivals Hertha Berlin SC. I literally have no idea how we made it this far. We also finished 5th in Goals Scored and an impressed 1st in Goals Conceded!!! That's an amazing record to have and truly the reason why we went up, IMO, as we were 7 goals better off than second placed Union. Next season will be a ride! Come join us!

Season 9. The summit has been reached. Until we gaze across and see some bigger peaks in the distance. Those peaks are staying in the 1.Bundesliga and European football. The board want us to Attempt to Avoid Relegation and reach the Second Round of the DfB Pokal, all the while with a £145k wage budget and a £15.75m transfer budget.

This is our July 1 lineup, with almost all the team not in the DNA frame for 1.Bundesliga. We are gonna have to sign our lives away for this season.

We have also changed our DNA requirements for this season, as our thresholds go up to 14/14/10.

We also had some interesting pre-season news!

Great news and he's just signed a new deal as he was getting bids of £7.5m upwards for him! Also..

Ooh. A new stadium. Hopefully, we'll get it named after me

Eeeesh.. This was the worst intake so far. We'll concentrate on the Top 3 DNA prospects, unless there are any notable deviations. The key prospects in this intake were defender Dirk Frisch, full back Alex Sarfo and winger Michał Zagórski

Dirk Frisch

Then. 15 years old, FC Viktoria 1899 Berlin

Now. 21 years old, TSV Buchbach

Dirk was the best ranked player in this intake, but only made 34 appearances for the II club in his time here. This season, however, Dirk was sold for £20k to Bayernliga side TSV Buchbach where he is yet to make an appearance.

 

Alex Sarfo

Then. 16 years old, FC Viktoria 1899 Berlin

Now. 21 years old, Retired

A sad ending. Alex was released by the club after two years and couldn't find another club, so retired at 18.

 

Michał Zagórski

Then. 16 years old, FC Viktoria 1899 Berlin

Now. 21 years old, Retired

Michał had the same fate as Alex above. Released and had nowhere to go. Retired at 18.
