So Sports Interactive team, when will FM be sold in Brazil again?!

Recommended Posts

So let's talk about this issue that's been around since 2017. I play FM since FM 10 . (addicted) I remember about the old CM days when I was a child.

Unfortunately due to licensing, as SI says ,the sales in Brazil stopped. Brazil had a huge market for FM for YEARS! One of the biggests! And still they decided not to sell here.

My question is: When will I be able to play Football Manager again? This is ridiculous. You guys still use the same licenses as before, the players have real names in-game and WE CAN'T PLAY?!

WHAT DID YOUR CUSTOMERS DO TO RECEIVE THIS KIND OF TREATMENTE FOR 4 YEARS SI?!

To my understanding, which I must say is very sketchy on these particular matters, the very issue is that the players have their real names, and they cannot have such if sold in Brazil, and such couldn't be included for others regions if they did either. If that is the case, I can understand the business case here. Removing Brazil from a football game, so you could sell it in Brazil, would seem a daft move. It would impact the game overall for something which wouldn't be a great product for people in Brazil anyhow.

While annoying, the real issues lies with the mess that is trying to license players in Brazil. Look at all the trouble that EA have trying to license anything for FIFA in Brazil.

Still, we want the game not the clubs.

Unfortunately, it seems that SI have deemed the cost to them to sell in Brazil is greater than what they'd earn from it at this time. I can't imagine that changing without the licensing situation changing too.

The only way to possibly do this is how the clubs are currently named and using random name generator for existing players (like you can generating your manager name).

And then the leagues also have to be taken into account…and anything else with a license in Brazil…

Just thinking about all that extra work sounds tiring.

Would this contravene licensing?

Licensing is a complex beast. Depending on regional laws, and context, even appearing similar to real players, clubs, etc, can be problematic.

The frustration is well understood, but the background information that SI have in order to make this decision is not available to us.  It is a decision that is not taken easily, but we must respect that it has been taken for all the right reasons.  We also have to respect that fact that we cant discuss ways of getting round license issues on the forums

I can't activate the game in Cambodia either. I'm sure there's no one in this country who cares about licensing, so there must be other issues at play.

To answer a poster, I bought the game last year and tried to activate it with VPN, but it didn't work. Really depressing.

Do you have any friends/relatives in other countries? Steam have been trying to stop VPN usage, but there shouldn't be an issue if somebody actually physically in the other country registers the game. I had to get somebody in England to switch over my Steam store and register the game for me back in 2016 or so when the game was blocked for sale in Japan.

I left the UK 20 years ago, in the days of CDs before Steam was a thing. I don't know anyone who uses Steam! The last time I activated the game, FM19, was due to a kindly soul on this forum doing that for me. It's a bit of an imposition to ask, me being a stranger though.
