In the end we were relegated and the Board waited till a few days later to sack me despite being able to convince them not to look at the form table a few times.

oh that's way harsh! after all you'd done for that club as well!

Season Summary 2030 - 2031

Comfortable mid table finish

After barely surviving last season the team had gained valuable experience ahead of the 2030-31 season. We finished 11th place, but I actually think we could have finished higher up the table with a little bit more luck. We have some obvious weak spots in the team, hopefully some youngsters that will be promoted in the summer can fill those gaps.

A big issue is that our star defender Richard Joseph is entering the last year of his contract and he doesn't want to renew. The dilemma now is to sell or not to sell. I will probably keep him as I dont have anyone ready to replace him. Next summer the same issue will arise with Marvin Eberwein, so we need to improve next year to convince him to stay. Willem Dekker, who is also pictured below, is really a crazy talent!

Season 2022/23

Sporting Club d'Escaldes

Sporting Club D'Escaldes Logo PNG Vector (CDR) Free Download

Season Summary

What could of been a great season, turned into one of heartbreak as we fell at the final hurdle.

Season Details

League Table - We were always in control of the league and comfortably won our league.

League Fixtures - With just two defeats, there was little room for improvement.

Promotion Playoff - We were dreadful against Inter d'Escaldes Reserves over both legs as we failed to secure promotion to the second tier.

Friendlies - We only lost one of our pre season games, giving us a solid base from which to work.

Squad - We don't even have eleven players!

Squad Dynamics - At least everyone loves everyone else.

Transfers In - None.

Transfers Out - None.

Youth Candidates - With no youth academy, there was no intake this year.

Finances - We lost money and are now in the red.

Key Players

Clément Colombani - Converted into a left winger, he became an assist machine.

Sérgio Carvalho - 19 goals in 23 appearances was a terrific return from our striker.

Pedro Sánchez - The teenage central midfielder was excellent for the entire campaign.

Diogo Martins - Midfield partner of Pedro Sánchez, they formed a terrific pairing.

Juan Manuel Rubio - The ringer had a good season.

Next Season

Promotion.  After coming so close this year, we need to go the next step.

@DazRTaylorI like the 2nd tier with a couple of groups.  Did you make that or is there another db knocking about somewhere?  I don't think I ever saw Sporting Escaldes gain promotion so they stayed in the abyss for 20+ years on my game.  Good luck on your latest Andorran journey... but Forza Lusos! ;)

It is the third tier with two groups.  I found it on Steam.  Link is here.

It's a lot of money for not a big capacity

Compared to the stadium my board just agreed too that's not bad at about 467 a seat. Ours will be 1400 pounds per seat...

2023/24 Midseason Review:

iwImrba.png

sctfNzG.png

Doing a little bit better than the record in my opinion. Schedule congestion with the cups really put a stress on our lack of depth. We wound up dropping some points, but not a whole lot. I think we'll stay in contention for playoffs and have a good shot to make the playoffs. We've played every team tough so I won't completely rule out a shot at winning the playoffs if we make it, but I'd not say it's likely yet.

Intake Preview:

SHRwSWg.png

That's a good preview to me. Those are areas our depth is weakest.

Season Review 2025/26

Pre-season

Achieving back-to-back-to-back promotions was something I'd never achieved on FM, so to do it in a Youth Challenge shocked me. Going into League One, we knew we were in for a tough time, but we had to make do with Joe Gilbey for the final time before he completes his £11m move to Fulham and as ever, it was his performances who dragged a lackluster team through the season.

The Gilbey money was being well spent on improvements to Youth and Training setup:

image.png.7beabc8a956f4899971cda704f8f7b73.png

League One

An extremely poor start saw us in the relegation zone for much of the first quarter of the season. I blame this on our first choice keeper getting injured for three months meaning we had a 16 year old stepping in who was nowhere near the quality required and as such goals were being conceded like they were going out of style.

This, coupled with an extremely poor run of form at the end of the season (injuries, lack of squad depth, blooding youngsters), saw us finish 15th (a far higher finish than we deserved picking up two wins in our last two games after a horrible run).

image.png.4c8958dd67967a8929a346d2140e88b4.png

Star of the season was one again the aforementioned Joe Gilbey, who regularly popped up with undeserved goals to turn the balance of a game, finishing top scorer in the league. A big shout out to Hunter and Laws in the assists chart, both of who will be here next season, finishing just above Greig, who sadly looks likely to go for a small fee minimum fee of £190k with us being unable to renew his contract.

Papa John's Trophy

Another shocking performance, based on a high amount of rotation saw us drop out immediately

image.png.eba811051a5fb7bf8161e3fb58c4a309.png

Carabao Cup

A Third Round exit to Hull (again), although by a small defecit

image.png.68107cc0ffcc7cc5d6529f8b2dcf512f.png

FA Cup

Less said about Eddie Nketiah's masterclass, the better. Third Round exit.

Youth Intake

Early signs were promising.

image.png.081a553c9d956623d8e645b31368bdc2.png

And despite a large amount of 'Elite Talents', many will not be in and around the first team next year.

image.png.124aef5e555362a229600bea76fbbb92.png

Jimmy Pickles (ironically my cousin's name) looks our best prospect and will like be brought in to replace the aforementioned Greig, who is likely to leave in Summer. Anth Gray will boost the attacking line as we say a teary goodbye to Gilbey. Delap and Everitt make up any other prospects, but unlikely to break into the team.

Post Season

League One was a struggle, I'm not going to lie. At times it felt impossible and I dread to think what we will do without our 30 goal a season Gilbey in the team, as well as Greig. Next season is going to be one of transition and blooding more youngsters as other first teamers age and their stats diminish. I see us struggling immensely and would not be surprised to see our stay in League One end.

image.png.27e97f9edb091572314bb1082bebeebd.png

On a personal note, I was able to add Joe Skarz to my Coaching Team. A footballer who I played in the same team with growing up, sadly he was far better than me (obviously).

image.png.dc418de3f426194747968006de2e4f7b.png

Joe Gilbey

Finally, a word on Joe Gilbey. What a player. When I found him languishing in my u18s, a 16yo with a huge drive, I knew I was on to a winner. His £11m transfer fee will keep the club afloat for another few seasons alone, as well as contributing massively to much required upgrades in facilities. He goes down in history as South Shields' top ever League Scorer, a true talent that we will not see again for many a year. 110 goals and 24 assists in 174 games.

image.png.a890bc123851abc1403478b0bf6eff37.png

image.png.54534c0f20feecdcaf39598dc10b4a39.png

Just to sum up his career with South Shield, the final game of the season saw him contribute a hattrick and an assist in a 4-1 win against Portsmouth. A final farewell to the fans for a much loved legend.

Santa Venera Lightnings FC Season 2 (2023/24)

Competitions

Spoiler

Another great season making it two seasons in a row where we were predicted to finish last and ended up winning the league...

Won it at a canter in the end however Pieta Hotspurs were right on our tail until about 9 games to go (beating them to win the title was a nice touch!)

As for the FA Trophy things were going great, then we drew Hibernians in the semi finals and they were just too strong for us but losing to eventual winners wasn't too bad and we made £520 out of it in prize money

Youth

Spoiler

Another all Elite intake (again taken with a huge pinch of salt) but the promising thing is we have a striker coming through who looks pretty handy. The personalities aren't that great but I'm really not expecting anyone in these early intakes to be here in the long term (they'll be big players as long as our facilities remain as they are!)

Reay has decent attributes for the Dribbling, Finishing and First Touch and he isn't slow (not that quick either mind you)

Farrugia will be playing as DLP either in the DM or MC position depending on whether I need to adjust my tactics for next season, at the moment the 4-2-3-1 Wide is working just fine so for the time being it will be as an MC

S2_Youth_3_Farrugia.thumb.png.e8b4f759159392935b1e4c5ed95acf4e.png

I'm trusting the current ability for Caruana which will mean he will become the new first choice keeper. Good agility and reflexes should mean his shot stopping is decent and at least the eccentricity is 2 given he has the "Tries To Play Way Out Of Trouble" trait

Players

Spoiler

Cauchi 23C has been the stand-out this season with 21 goals and 8 assists in 35 starts and an average rating of 7.58

Club

Spoiler

No changes to the club in terms of facilities, but we had an increased coaching staff to 3 (for about 3 weeks before going back to 2 after we hired someone).

Financially the FA Trophy would have been a nice bonus as we now sit at £-53k

2023/24 Season Review:

WTuIT1A.png

SlaKJX8.png

Form absolutely cratered from March until the end. Seven draws out of the last thirteen games. Throw in four losses in that stretch too. No matter what I tried come the 80th minute the other team was going to score at least one goal. We were at one point a few points within reach of first place and then it all went wrong. A real shame because this was a season in which no one ran away with the league and we could have snuck up.

sV6ognL.png

xOPZQHj.png

J89J8Vr.png

57S3VRp.png

Things weren't all bad though. We had a pretty good run in the FA Cup, which definitely helped with the money situation. The new stadium was completed after the season ended, but will hopefully bring more money into the club. At least pay for itself. The 18K a month kills us and turns what would be a profitable team with our current set up to one with finances so bad that I didn't get offered a contract until a week before it expired. This was almost a different update!

Youth Intake:

QZ3YwQY.png

Pretty strong intake. I was really hoping the keeper would be better though.

I'm going to give some of the younger players more playing time. If the ones have can't play with consistency I'll give the guys with higher potential a chance to develop. Hopefully the new stadium brings in more money and I can get some investments in the club. They stopped funding coaching courses too.

@br00kster - Did you loan in a player, or am I misunderstanding something? That's not allowed in this challenge, sorry.

I sold a player, which was then offered to me for a season on loan as part of the transfer. It's still a player from my academy - see image. Is this not allowed?

Yeah, sorry, but we've had those rules for a long time. If the bid was out of your hands and you didn't get any choice, then it's allowed, BUT not allowed to use the player, in the same way we do for when the board buys players without your input.

That's fair enough, I just assumed it didn't fall under that given it's an academy player and not someone new/external, guess the rule is a bit vague when starting out.

Yeah, the ground rule is "no transfer or loans of any kind" and we take it from there.

Really dissapointed to lose our star defender Richard Joseph. He came out of nowhere in the 26/27 intake, instantly becoming our best player by far. He has refused to sign a new contract and I knew before this season that we could either sell him or lose him on a free. I decided to keep him, mainly because we really need and secondly, these things usually work out. Not this time though and it was obvious he wouldn't renew. A big shame as we have had a fantastic season so far and this will be a big loss in the upcoming years.

Good luck in Greece @br00kster sorry about your other save, England for this challenge just doesn’t do it for me anyway so I hope you get sucked in to your new save.

I know what you mean about the asterisk, that’s why I didn’t look to use the way around the youth facility issue with the chairman (even though that save is now on the back burner thanks to Malta)

Croatia

Premier Division

2037/38 (season 16)

Season Summary

Slowly but surely! We had a good solid start, 3 wins and 3 draws from our first 10, but then followed that up with a 14 match winless run to pull us into relegation trouble. But in the second half of the season we picked up a few more wins and stayed up fairly comfortably in the end. We're nowhere near the Euro places yet but we're heading in the right direction

38leaguetable.JPG.725863ff39b26bcf991eeea190efc65f.JPG

Players

Big news was the interest shown in my star right winger Mijo Bagaric 35B during the offseason. With a 2m release clause I couldn't afford to fanny about too much so just asked for the 50% add on when it got close.

In the end it was Manchester City who got him but I'm happy with the deal. Hopefully they'll look after him cos look at his value once he joined them!

38bagaricsale.JPG.563918d529b428d420414a62390db9c4.JPG

38bagaricatmancity.JPG.b2a9bc3396badb3bdeecc108e19e14cf.JPG

So we were theoretically weakened but in real life the lads coming up from the youth squad meant we had a slightly stronger squad than last season. A lot of ncie performances from very young players who will hopefully just get better

38bestxi.JPG.f5d7f15ea204cf36c3d7e7defdffbd57.JPG

Wonderkids

Weirdly, my best performer this season was someone I never really paid much attention to and just used as a stopgap. He was a 4 star potential but honestly, i have loads of them! He settled in as a mezzalla this season and really flourished with 10 goals and 9 assists. And then....

38bestwonderkids.JPG.11c517480db0f005d1b9d327f786e55f.JPG

My first to make the list! and i wouldn't have put him in my top 5 prospects lists before the season started. Hopefully he's not reached his peak cos he was really great this season. Time will tell!

Youth

Yeah, another golden generation. 15th in a row i think!

38youthpreview.JPG.8a962bd190db65f9c99b3e014609296d.JPG

Looks good!

38youthintake.thumb.JPG.7b7bdafc851e8e88b60d026b6b75a0ab.JPG

But the range of determination and personalities were really disappointing to be honest. Not too pleased with this intake

38youthintake2.JPG.cb6ea85ea76593eda0e34ff6b3ea949c.JPG

But the goalkeeper looks very nice!
38stargrad.JPG.f1bf543744f8d992c38f0b1ccec01ed9.JPG38stargrad2.JPG.7fe8ec409653627b7ead435df825487a.JPG

Finances

So I took the 1.5m for Bagaric and then sold the sell on clause for Igor Petrovic 31A for 800k and spent it all on these upgrades

38youthcoaching.JPG.dc626032fcc4251a9d60cf3f1c88e1a2.JPG

Career

Can we keep improving? Hopefully. We got a striker coming up for next season who scored 47 in 35 for the U19s. If he can do that for the first team it would be lovely!

XaW - Hyde - Season 2027/28 - Vanarama National League

ng9Mr86.png

Squad | Transfers | Finances

Excellent first season for us and we were comfortable for most of the season. Being semi-pro is a challenge when quite a lot of the others are professional, but we do our best. For the most part I think the tactic is working and now we just need to continue to stabilize at this level and then slowly push upwards.

FA Cup: We beat Chelmsford City and Morecambe before we lost to Portsmouth in the 2nd round.
FA Trophy:  We beat Morpeth and Kingstonian before we lost to Boreham Wood in the 5th round.

U18 team:

They finished 2nd in the National U18 League North West. In the FA Youth Cup they beat Belper Town and Boston United before losing to Altrincham in the 1st round.

AEPS Aiolikos Mytilinis, aka 'Wind'

Season One (2022/23) Review

I was greeted with an aging squad, including my captain and goalkeeper who ended the season at the ripe age of 38. Only one teenager (Borisov) in the entire club, I tried to blood as best I could but sadly his potential is somewhat limited.

Greek Super League Two

A surprisingly good showing in the league saw us finish 3rd after a good run at the end of the season.

image.png.2f60a711bb0352073a59ec7be74565b0.png

Mbuba finishing 3rd in the scoring charts and set-piece specialist Kouroupis topping the assists chart. Sadly it looks like our arguably best player Kostas Apostolopoulos will be leaving us at the end of the season, refusing to renew his contract and handing in a transfer request.

Youth Intake

Decent early signs...

image.png.fea3f53b19b0bfd2ffe5121ef017b54a.png

Although four Elite Talents were identified, only one stood out...

image.png.1eefc1ce0660841582151b238f27baec.png

Thanasis Bourous...our next Joe Gilbey? Out highest rated youngster, scoring a hattrick vs the u19s before another four on his u19s debut.

Finances and Transfers

Our club is bleeding money, with a much needed injection of £100k from the board keeping our heads above water.

Season Summary 2031 - 2032

First European finish, but losing best player on a free

A really good season, finishing in 4th place. This means we will have a shot at the Europa League so thats great! This was a big step from last years 11th place finish, but im not surprised. We promoted a couple of really good youngsters and the players are progressing nicely. A HUGE worry now is that we are losing Richard Joseph, by far our best defensive player on a free transfer to Newcastle. The way things are going now the same thing will happen with Marvin Eberwein next season and I fear we will struggle to make progress like this! I pray that Eberwein will renew his contract, otherwise that is two huge gaps that needs to be filles in two seasons.

@thomas_egood job with the 4th place (not that dissimilar to my save where I finished 3rd), your intake keeper looks great.

I'm enjoying my Malta save too much just now to go back to Katwijk, the CL final loss really took its toll on my save (and me)

A fantastic GK intake, I actaully let Timon Fikkert go on a free this summer, der Zouwen will go straight into the starting eleven.

Surprised to see you left the Katwijk save after a runner-up CL finish, but sometimes it could be good with a break. If I keep losing our best player each season I will grow frustrated aswell!!

It was largely down to being 30 seconds from completing the challenge, we had done everything right in the game and then it fell apart. A few days later I lose my best central defender after losing my number 1 keeper and number 1 striker earlier that season.

Probably will go back to it, just enjoying the change of scenery and pace in Malta

2024/25 Midseason Review:

zeWigN1.png

REzLQB9.png

It seems this season we opened with the dire form that found us at the end of last season. At a tough spot where the kids aren't taking much advantage of playing time and the legacy players are starting to decline. There are a couple good younger legacy players basically keeping the team alive. With no money to upgrade any facilities or coaching I think it may be a struggle until we pay off the stadium loan, or we get a new owner.

Season Two is going to be a strange one. I've been moved from the North division to the South and the number of teams in the league has been reduced from 15 to 12 in both divisions.

To throw an additional spanner in the works, the South division includes three 'B' teams, who cannot be relegated or promoted, essentially making this a nine team division with one going into the promotion playoff and five relegated.

Edit: depending on the final placements, a team finishing in 5th could be relegated, while if it were to go differently a team finishing 4th could be in the promotion playoff.

I found the ones that had the sell on never moved on the ones without it moved for big money at Katwijk, hope you have better luck.

Default database, although I've never managed in Greece before so a little new to me.

Last year in the North Iraklis got relegated in 10th, despite PAOK B being 11th, similarly with Asteras Vlachioti in the South and Panathinaikos B.

Santa Venera Lightnings FC Season 3 Mid-season Review

So the level has definitely gone up a fair whack however we continue to punch above our weight  and I'm optimistic that if we avoid injuries we might just sneak a Euro qualification spot

EDIT: As you can see we have an 9 point gap between 4th and 5th meaning 9 points between European place and no European place.
1748555454_S3_Competitions_1_LeagueMid-season.png.61bf332fa67aeeb72f954f8f3608ee61.png

Our main issue has been goals scored given our top scorer this season is Bakare on 6 goals (Central Defender) mainly due to penalties  Cauchi (23C) and Emura have 3 goals each with Talliana goalless and Reay (24C) on 2

I'm actually pretty delighted at how its going, only conceding 10 in 14 is solid to build upon and I am seeing improvements in a few of the youngsters (albeit really slow thanks to the awful facilities and part time contracts).

On that note I did manage to get the board to agree to increase junior coaching despite being £25k in the red when they asked if I wanted a new contract (they still offered a new contract about 2 weeks later!)

Currently studying for the Continental C License so the attributes are ticking along nicely with level of discipline shooting up after I refused to be bullied by Emura for a new contract and he backed down

S3_Manager_1_Attributes.png.9dc58ef3d030aa69928edda5d833da4e.png

The youth intake came in and if its to be believed we could have a really strong year:

1632074198_S3_Youth_1_IntakePreview.thumb.png.979623ea8e5a1b2660c3c7506b6f67f1.png

Its lacking in central midfield (which is the one area I feel we are the weakest) however I did get one DM/MC last year so if I get another DM I might be able to go with 2 DMs 4-2-3-1 Wide.

Either way, it looks promising and I hope that one of the full backs that have plenty of promise is a right back as our current one is struggling at this level (in fact most players are with only Cauchi (23C) managing to average over 7 with 7.32)

AEPS Aiolikos Mytilinis aka Wind

Season Two Review (2023/24)

Another (short) transitional season in the bag with a couple of youngsters blooded into the team.

As mentioned in a previous post, I was moved from the North division to the Southern, as well as the number of teams  in the league reducing from 15 to 12.

Things didn't start too well with our best CM picking up a cruciate ligament injury, ruling him out for the season.

Back to back 3rd place finishes. Kouroupis still loving a good set piece and our now 17 year old striker Bourous ended the season as our top scorer with 11 goals in 20 starts. My previous assumptions regarding 'B' teams seemed to be incorrect, so we will have to see how the new season lines up.

Greek Cup

A couple of victories finally saw us eliminated in the Fifth Round to higher division opposition.

Youth Intake

Initial reports were promising.

And they were right, with a real prospect joining the ranks - Sakis Markakis.

We also have a decent keeper coming through, Vasilis Charalabis, which is timely given our captain's imminent retirement at the age of 39.

Our inherited youth CB at the start of the game got a call up to Bulgaria u19s, still trying to blood him, but his progress is slow.

Post Season

Our finances are a mess...progress will continue to be slow without some real investment or likely selling our better players. No improvements in any facilities or recruitment to speak of.

The untimely retirement of set piece specialist, and my top assister maker these past two seasons, Kouroupis, has really put a spanner in the works for next season's planning.
