GM negotiation, a master negotiator or a toast ?

Recommended Posts

I have a lot of mixed exp with the GM negotiating deals for me.  I usually try to use him to help me with tough deal, sometime he could do a brilliant job but sometime an absolute nightmare!

For example, it's time for me to re-contract with Bastoni, 26, World Class CB at this point, many clubs are demanding him.  He is at 190k/week, Regular starter; I step in, his agent then: 325k/week, Important player mate, or we are out!  I asked my GM, he offered Bastoni: 195k/week, Squad player; I was like WTF, and thing is, he said YES, oh my lord.

Same similar vein, Milan Skriniar, World Class CB, 185k/week, demand me 350k/week, my GM offered 190k/week and he slaps my GM so bad I could see his tooth flying out the door.

There are many other instances that are very inconsistent of how GM doing it and I don't get the thinking behind it nor how the other party thinking too, why the accepted offer could be so far low than with how I negotiating.

This is actually quite pleasing to read as it shows that getting someone else to negotiate isn't a "cheat code"

In terms of the reason why, I have no clear findings or evidence, but I'd like to think it could come down to the personality combinations of said GM, Agent and Player and how they click or don't click. A lot would come down to the AI doing the negotiations, and how good they are at doing them. You also see it in real life, some players and agents back down, some are stubborn and transfer/contract sagas ensue

Overall, I don't think there is a one size fts all answer or reasoning to this situations, I think it is just something that can be said to adds to the immersion of saves if nothing else :)
