Let's go Notts Co - Rise of the Magpies

Welcome to Meadow Lane, home of Notts County Football Club. Also known as Notts Co, and The Magpies.

Most football fans will know Notts Co as the oldest Football club in the world. A long history with an FA Cup, multiple division wins, but also a difficult recent history.

Relegated from the top flight just before the arrival of the Premier League, Notts Co have steadily tumbled down the divisions in the last two decades, recently falling all the way out of the Football League altogether, and landing in the National League.

My mission for this save...well it's pretty simple. Start by restoring Notts Co to the Football League, and then see how far we can go. By using a mixture of transfers, and by growing the clubs youth set up, I am aiming to take this proud old club back up through the leagues.

And of course, have some fun along the way.

As this is my first save to be shared in these forums, feel free to give me any advice/tips along the way, or to share any info I might be missing, as being a novice at this, I am sure to miss a lot  I get distracted by IRL a lot as well, so my updates may be a bit all over the place...but here goes nothing!

Next up...Meet the new boss.

A new era begins:

1545611042_NottsCounty_.png.4bc39c8f8cb7aafb099208183745ee92.png

Introducing the manager tasked with taking up the fight to get back to League Football.

The appropriately named Phoe Nix, who the Reedtz brothers decided was also the appropriate name, and metaphor, to raise this club from the ashes, and make them soar again.

The board are not asking too much, just need to gain promotion by winning the league.

So no pressure then

Next up...the club when I arrive.

The club when I arrive:

35406397_NottsCoFacilitiesScore2021.png.8083faa1c98ef8838826d1017ba05574.png

Not terrible facilities, but there is work to be done, and improvements to be made.

The finances leave a bit to be desired, especially as one of my visions is to work to repair the financial damage.

Another reason the club has fallen so far I suspect.

But I am not here to criticise the past. Onwards and upwards for this proud club.

This should help a little.

Next up...the squad, and tactics.

Meet the squad:

330325303_NottsCounty_Players.png.c37da876e277e95408be87dca6b9f91d.png

1888160306_NottsCounty_Players-2.png.94e717759af9a0969c3c92e8ce21613f.png

Seems a pretty decent squad at first glance, for this level.

Shouldn't need to go crazy with transfers, maybe just a few extra legs to help provide rotation, especially for the tactic I use.

Speaking of which:

1183129614_NottsCounty_Overview-2.png.6a978af20c50c06c4c4a53e32926d713.png

Phoe Nix believes the best defence, is attack.

When you're winning - attack

When you're losing - attack

When things are going well - attack

When things are going bad - attack

When we have the ball - attack

When they have the ball, get in their face, be aggressive, get the ball back...then attack

I would almost rather lose an exciting 3-4 game, than win a boring 1-0 game where a team parks the bus for 60 minutes. Having said that, I will take the 1-0 win if I have to.

This tactic I have used, and it's excellent for scoring a lot of goals, but it is hard work on the midfielders, so hence I usually require some extra legs in those positions to provide some rotation and cover. Something to look into later.

Next up...a closer look at the squad

A closer look at the squad:

Thanks to @Jtomsett11 for sharing his spreadsheet, which I adapted for the positions in my tactic.

Goalkeepers:

1362105368_GKs2021.png.0402979eea7793a6340c2b57e3a15112.png

Slocombe is the clear Number 1 with Piling being the back up and pushing for a spot.

Brooks is a promising youngster who will probably be sent on loan to help with development.

Kean is slowly transitioning to coaching, and probably won't see any game time unless there is injury, or suspension.

Defence:

CBs:

1476093068_CBs2021.png.c39bcfb65a983cf47394ff22082d3805.png

Turner is an absolute boss for this level, and is probably one of the best defenders in the league.

Rawlinson and Lacey will probably be rotated, while Irvine is a very capable back up.

Right:

1699359130_FBRs2021.png.12aecdefc0f4774eb66907b38997be78.png

Kelly-Evans is capable on the left or right, and will rotate as needed.

Brindley is very capable and will take over when Kelly-Evans is rested or needed on the left.

Moore was picked up as a free transfer, and will provide cover and push for a starting spot.

Left:

1911860356_WBLs2021.png.7345be595f27943b8c722b0b6a55863d.png

Chicksen seems to spend a lot of time on international duty for Zimbabwe, and McCrory will be adequate cover for absence and rotation.

Barnett is a capable to cover a few positions, including midfield, but was highest rated here, so has been added as part of the defence rotation.

Centre Midfield:

BBM:

1031911250_CMBBMs2021.png.0c7d6a0c417afccd30d3eca66570dce4.png

AP:

1334641943_CMAPs2021.png.cad39dcd5d8d089dd43550cdf61856ed.png

Plenty to like about both sets of midfielders, and all are able to cover each other.

Greaves and Snedden are highly rated from the 18's, so are added here to train with the main group, available for 18s, and may get the odd senior game.

Attacking Midfielders:

Right:

150095094_AMRs2021.png.75ab2a38b940c54f2c2b71fe79f0ae86.png

Left:

757164424_AMLs2021.png.a5de60dc8cfb5f4f10359f316c5bf4b5.png

Roberts, Miller, and Boldewijn are the standouts here.

Roberts is also very capable on the right, and Sam can cover just about every position in the forward third.

Mulvany is another highly rated kid form the 18's.

Might need some more cover in these positions, especially the left, but finding quality left footer, that doesn't want 3K a week is hard work.

Forwards:

CF:

380485725_CFs2021.png.def2d730a6c5a096dd0da7cbf0014c73.png

AF:

1877101290_AFs2021.png.64f6be9e17c7786e8e0680d9966ab556.png

Again plenty of rotation option available here.

Rodrigues and Wooton are the obvious first choices.

Palmer another from the 18's.

So that's the squad to head into the friendlies, could probably do with one more body on the left of midfield, but they are hard work to get.

I had forgotten to set my staff roles, and my DoF made an offer for Port Vale's Leon Legge. :seagull: Now Leon has been a great servant for football, and Port Vale, but the dude is 36'ish, has the movement speed of a glacier, and his reactions are timed on a sun dial these days...no thank you Mr DoF, and he has now been releived of the duty

Up next...Lets play some football. The friendlies begin.

Good Work! English saves are always fun...if for no other reason is I that can pronounce most of the players names!

I'm playing a last save in England also I started a little higher up the ladder though, Fleetwood Town.

It was also homage to my very first save....when I knew nothing about Football or FM!

Are you excited about the Datapak coming in FM22?

Haha yeah, I was eyeing off a low level Scottish save, but raising the Magpies hooked me in again.

I have been playing FM on and off since the early 2000's, and I am still not sure I know what I am doing

Unsure what to think about FM22 yet. I seem to go in 4 year cycles.

I have 2008, 2012, 2016, and was a year late and got 2021 for PC, and played originally on PS.

And as I got into 21 pretty late, I may just keep at it for a while yet.

Good updates, even if it is Notts County ;)

Nottinghamshire having three clubs in the league Vs Derbyshire's one is the way forward though, so feel free to do all you can to stop Chesterfield going up with you!

On a side note, really like the view with the faces and kits added. Is it part of a skin or something custom?

I do have a faces pack on my main PC, but it's out of action at the moment so I am using the wife's laptop

I think I am only using Steel logos, Flut skin, and trophies packs at the moment.

Sorry, I might not have explained myself - I have all the logo/face graphics. But looks like you're on the squad page and you've got a custom view which shows small player faces and kit number all on the line for each player. I can't find that view on any of the skins I use, so was wondering if you've downloaded a skin or set up your own custom view?

Ah ok, no I don't think so, it's the "General Info" tab on the Squad Page.

Lets play some football:

164515341_Friendlies2021.png.2a6f200b07689dee4e741c97b815a954.png

After slogging it out in the pre-season, and getting the guys to learn a new system, we finally got onto the field to get some real running into the legs.

The first two games were a bit rusty, Bristol are two divisions above us and we absolutely bossed them, but just couldn't put the ball in the net. Seems they took my attack at all costs theme to heart and went crazy with it. 43 shots on goal (not a typo), but only 5 on target.

So I scheduled a few extra matches to get them used to the system, attack at all costs, but quality over quantity.

Over the next few games it started to click, the shots at goal dropped like a stone, but the shots on target sky rocketed, and so did the ball hitting the net.

A quality pre-season should have us in good stead heading into the real games.

770232543_SeasonPreview.png.e219caa3bd0134a370f0d8795aa968b8.png

Seems the bookies have been talking to the Reedtz brother about the season expectations and have us massive favourites to take out the league.

Nothing like a bit extra pressure...Right then, on with the job.

410818722_GoalScorerodds2021.png.1f7cd9f5a113346b6a2d7baf1bcbf15c.png

Our forward man is also favourite with the bookies to lead the goal scoring.

54545404_Seasontickets2021.png.59a17ea37c2fce6352a4c16296ab1edf.png

Seems pretty solid for this level, although they might get lost in a stadium with 19K seats

250375559_Debut2021.png.805e007e36bd06e12f2818388845f643.png

Turn on the lights, mark the lines, hang the nets...it's showtime!

Up next...the season begins.

This is really interesting when compared to my attribute scores for my squad that now faces league 1 football.  While I definitely have overall higher scores, some of your players would get in my team ahead of my starters 🤣

Light 'em up, up, up...it's showtime

OCT-DEC 2020

1518556622_TableDEC2021.png.09f1b49dc3726ae1380ed9b856f50056.png

760500883_Eleveninarow2021.png.db4ceecdc56c8c52a3df2e6bc76c2ab6.png

The season started with an 11 game unbeaten streak, dropping our first points to an injury time equaliser against Halifax, and fighting out and exciting but tough one all in a top of the table clash with Stockport. The unbeaten run ended away to Wrexham, and to be fair, that score line flattered us, they beat us all over the park, and should have scored a lot more. Sam Slocombe, our GK, was MotM in this game.

But after some sharp words and some punishing training, I was keen to see how they'd respond...they did, and how, by banging in 9 goals in the next two games. In fact, we've slammed in 51 goals in 17 games while only conceding 17 is a pretty impressive start to the season.

As dominant as we've been, we are still only 5 points clear of second. I think that shows how competitive this league is, and why it can be so difficult to get out of.

Also, 7-8K crowd at home games in phenomenal for this division, and helping with the Repair Financial Damage vision.

2041953186_Highscoring2021.png.9e95584148d7a75dfa2900ae83e0c32d.png

The teams in this game thought defence was the thing around the outside of the ground :seagull:

We lead 3-0, and 4-1, before a 12 minute hattrick by their striker made it 4-4. Two late strikes gave us the win, but this game didn't do a lot for my hair line.

There was also a 6-3 game. Those two games alone account for 7 of the 17 goals we have conceded so far.

The Cups

FA Cup:

1364176907_FACup2021.png.612ac996c712ee7fc6b636e23869de2e.png

A kind draw seen us get three National League sides, two from the North/South, and two home games.

We lead 3-0 against Curzon Ahston before almost letting it slip with a rotated squad, while we lead 2-0 against Wrexham before a late strike got us home.

We missed out on a big money dream draw in round three getting Championship side Bristol, but another decent home crowd should help the financial repairing.

FA Trophy:

812606520_FATrophy2021.png.ae0c20226e179b72859340220670e04c.png

Just the one game so far, but the rotated squad got the job done against Nantwhich.

I will probably keep using the rotated squad in this cup, as I need to give some rest to the main starters.

But then my want to win takes over, so this could get interesting.

1129917562_enjoyinglife21.png.853778511fd7368103f620dc5559ffb0.png

So it's been a good start to the season, but with plenty of sharks circling for the one automatic promotion spot, consistency is going to be the key.

Up next...the individual performances and accolades.

I have ordered the stats by games played.

Rodders is throwing them in for fun, well supported by Wootton. Plenty of assists and goals being churned out by the midfield, this attacking formation is bearing fruit.

A few players right up there in the League leader stats as well, Slocombe has been boss in goal.

 Youth Intake Preview:

77349415_Ythintake21.png.eb64fb8bc14d38e38afad9c74c0c7aca.png

Looks like an interesting first intake. No wide Midfielders though.

196844215_YthRecImprove21.png.e1f93270b3a949f77b59f2ba2b01a0c7.png

After some grovelling, the board finally agreed to an improvement.

1382401736_Improveacadcoach21.png.3e21cbd874c742f04aca9fbad8aadd11.png

Then they agreed to a second improvement without batting an eyelid.

75011525_Doylesale21.png.9a9d72a0d9d8283796ed8a32c3f61652.png

We also had a player sale.

While Michael Doyle was the club captain, at 39 his best years were well behind him, and he wanted to go home to be closer to family.

While the transfer fee was small, clearing the 2K a week off the wage bill is a big boost.

We have beaten a team three divisions above us.

For the last 30 minutes they threw everything at us, but the defence held firm.

Looks like the finances may get fixed a little earlier than planned.

 There's movement at the station...

January 2021 Transfer activity

Out:

640056074_EffiongLoanEnds.png.891b43d96146664baef2ece3c69a1c3e.png

The first move was to send Effiong back home.

He barely played, constantly whinged about training, and generally had a bad attitude.

He was low on the priority line for selection anyway, plus we save some money getting his wages off our books.

1050480468_RichardBrindleySold.png.9a93c261f615ffc93cc07b365862ab13.png

Richard Brindley was a back up player. who got an offer from  League One Wigan.

Their original offer was 7K which I negotiated up, with some extras included.

I wish him all the best, although in fairness if he was a reserve here, I do wonder how much game time he is going to get at a League One team.

1224266621_FCDScore.png.996127ebdc975c63d886174b6f164f9a.png

The DoF started to redeem himself when he found this young CB to provide some extra fresh legs in defence.

Looks pretty decent, and maybe one to keep an eye on with a view to making the move permanent.

1781984860_KMScore.png.292b55b70765e6558b4fcb091b4235f9.png

He then continued on his road to redemption by unearthing this little gem, who is a left footed attacking midfielder, but can cover every position in the middle.

I'm still keeping my eye open for another defender on the right, and centre midfielder.

But not in a panic over either.

My current rotation system seems to be working well, keeping the players fresh enough, and the injuries to a minimum.

It's raining goals...

JAN-FEB 2021

802964700_TableFEB2021.png.aeade1c9c9bf2b8714749320946e64e4.png

We started the year showing there is no New Years hangover and won every league game for two months.

Bookended by a 5-0 hammering of Woking, and putting Boreham Wood through the cleaners.

84 goals scored in 26 games, and while we are conceding more than I'd like, at the end of the day, the results don't lie.

240247538_Fanday2021.png.33328c93dcd221962cdc70bc4f581b76.png

The crowds are still rolling in, in impressive numbers, and we celebrated the new year with a fan day, and over 10K in attendance, which is crazy for a level 5 league.

Considering we sold less than 3K season tickets, these numbers are certainly boosting the cash flow.

The Cups

FA Cup:

64967769_FACup.png.1bdc7beae750d1a71333b3a254db998f.png

We couldn't back up the Bristol heroics, and got rightly smacked by a full strength Man U team in front of a full house at Old Trafford.

A hattrick from Rodders was the highlight, although it's peaked interest in him, and it's going to be difficult to keep him I think.

After Man U game

A deep run has done wonders for the financial situation, collecting over 1.3 Million for this game alone.

FA Trophy:

1460636873_FATrophy.png.ab8bb34b81f441b4496822575be8a263.png

I keep throwing out the rotated team in this cup, and they keep winning.

Although both goals were scored off the bench in the Chester game.

I'll keep rotating players here I think, but the crowds are a nice little kicker to the financial situation.

1977755637_FinancialDamageRepaired.png.e96f77761d3a6db1081dccfeb52b499d.png

Speaking of which, the board are delighted, no doubt a favourable early cup run, and a money spinner at Old Trafford came at exactly the right time to help this cause.

Nice to tick this one off early.

Some pretty impressive figures here, Rodders still throwing them in for fun.

Goals and assists coming from all over the park, which is impressive.

I have been very impressed with Elisha Sam, who is really a back up winger/striker, who has banged in 11 goals taking the pressure off Wootton, who while he hasn't been scoring as many as I might like, has been providing plenty as well.

The new recruits Cousin-Dawson and Morris have started like a house on fire, the DoF might be back in the good books after all.

Impressive numbers from the defensive unit as well, I am already thinking what this squad might be capable of in League Two.

996813226_KieronMorrisDebut.png.18c74c3709bc2e117bf5e940564600fe.png

The new arrival, a left footed, left sider has certainly made an impression providing plenty of chances in his first few games.

If this keeps up I might even have to speak to the DoF a bit more about his suggestions

A winning two months has seen me take out the Manager of the Month for both January and February.

Strangely, for a team performing so well, there has been no player awards this period.

I am wondering if somehow the rotation policy means they are not playing as much as the award winners, so makes it harder for them to win.

Anyway, the goal is to get back to League Football, so at this stage the results are all that matter.

Leaves a bit to be desired, although I will probably take most of them to add some depth to the 18s this season.

Might be time to hit up the Reedtz brother for some more upgrades

Because of the strange way the National League transfer window works, I was able to pick up another Right Back to add to the rotation.

Shows potential to improve, and if not, cost basically nothing and can be moved on for a profit.

The boys have kept the pressure on and the goals are still flying in, the new legs we brought in performing well to help the rotation.

Notts Co reclaim their place as the oldest Football League club in the world

We romped home remaining undefeated for the final two months of the season.

The goals continued to fly in as we slammed home an incredible 142 for the campaign, and the defence tightened up, conceding a League best 32.

It was a shock to see Aldershot, and not Stockport joining us in League Two.

Just goes t0 show how important that automatic promotion spot is.

The double is complete.

After using the rotated squad for most of the campaign, I decided I wanted another trophy and sent to full strength squad out...

And they nearly coughed it up, with Sam scoring an extra time double off the bench to seal the deal.

But the trophies didn't end there.

It's been an amazing first season in charge, but now the work really begins, to make this side a competitive Football League club again.

There is some work to be done before the new season begins:

645216286_LeagueTwoexpectations.png.e4f57ca4358ec091290939cb5aed9efe.png

The board have reminded me, politely, of their expectations for the upcoming season.

I think with the squad we have, we can go better than avoiding relegation, but time will tell.

The cups seem less important to them, but another decent FA Cup run can only help with the finances.

2062696629_BudgetTransfer.png.b32e96c924a991a5ec0113a261fc880e.png

74101904_BudgetWage.png.3077fd84daf3204e6c298054870ebfab.png

Pretty decent in both regards, although I am spending a bit more on wages now, a lot of players came off contract and I had to upgrade some to keep them.

I am probably now paying overs for Ruben Rodrigues, at nearly 4K a week, but after his performances last season, there were a lot of people banging on the door.

481787699_BudgetDebt.png.5e5c925a00e7678ea75da6bae0d1c23b.png

The brilliant news is the FA Cup run, and the solid crowd numbers have completely eliminated the clubs debt.

The Reedtz brothers were very happy with that one.

Club Improvements:

1021683227_Recruitmentanalystimp.png.f8479919cfe00154cb16120a5aa2863b.png

They came up with this one all on their own, and while I am not completely sure what it achieves, I was happy to go along with their wishes.

The search has begun, stay tuned for more details.

I like this one as you can find some pretty handy players for cheap with the right Senior Affiliate.

Hoping they unearth a link to a top EPL side, so I can troll through their ranks for some free help.

99908159_u23teamapproved.png.4e8f7bce94f94326de9be93775cdbf55.png

This is a big one for me. There is a massive step between 18s and the First team, and some players need those extra few years to develop.

Having a 23s team gives you somewhere to play them while developing them at your own club.

Also a handy stepping stone for those coming back from injury, and to get some running into the legs of those that are not playing a lot.

So at the beginning of the season this is how we are looking.

There has been some improvement over last year, but the Training Facilities could use some work.

Maybe they will be the target pending finances this season.

2021-2022 Pre Season

We're off and running...again

381181430_Friendlies2021-22.png.15a46552b89e2ca65d8f9c3a2bd83eed.png

A mixed bag of results, however we put in some solid performances against teams from much higher divisions.

The main goal was getting some running in the legs, building fitness, and working the combinations.

A solid lead up ready for the season ahead.

The bookies said what???

1017271079_Bookiesthoughts.png.6b8b5fba45292872ec333a666881907c.png

For a newly promoted team, the bookies don't think we're going to be in the relegation fight, and have us pegged for a top half finish.

Given the dominance in the National League last season, I am also confident of avoiding the relegation fight.

1203447752_L2LeadingGoalSocrerodds.png.a27778cd0a570345d7e92b986b8641c5.png

After being favourite for the leading goal scorer in the National League, and dominating, the bookies like his chances again this year.

While the goals are shared around, Rodders will be a big part in how we travel this year.

714637445_Seasonticketsales.png.8da23eae556599f39f857131a9df787f.png

An extra 500 or so tickets sold this year is a solid start.

But considering we sold less than 3K last season and averaged over 8K crowds, I am hoping to see good numbers again this season.

I am guessing results will drive those numbers though.

2021-2022 Pre season Transfers:

1084424553_Youthreleased.png.7f4ad3ab65df758c2491ac73341a165c.png

The changes started with the release of three from the 18s squad. These guys had really low numbers, had not improved, or even regressed.

So they were not offered new contracts.

We also let two of the three Loan players return to their clubs as well.

And for the third...

2118265791_CalMillerJoinsNotsCo.png.e277dd8aac689f779ff13df819188c9e.png

My first move was to make Millers loan move permanent.

He was an integral part of our attacking unit last season, he wanted to stay, we wanted him to stay.

I may have over paid, but I think it's worth it.

629093500_EmekaObiscore.png.4b4598755ec29a8031c065960bff7e09.png

Next up, my scouts found this kid playing for match payments in the National League South.

A free transfer and being our second highest rated defender made this a no brainer.

Also being under 21, doesn't take up a registration spot, which is now a consideration being back in League Football.

1406454566_LiamKinsellascore.png.cf30daf8c28b4209e894b2a28248481e.png

My final transfer so far has been to bolster the centre of midfield.

A quality player that automatically becomes our highest rated box-to-boxer.

Has put in some quality performances in the friendlies to start his Notts Co career as well.

Looking forward to seeing how these new guys go.

A brief update:

948464422_Senioraffiliateimp.png.6b266f429ce0433927b2ceb5da36b2fd.png

Earlier I mentioned the club had agreed above to find a senior affiliate.

They came back with a list of Leeds, Southampton, and Manchester City...

813846691_ManCitylink.png.a26132654b5158fec4118efc1461205d.png

1505258385_ManCitylink2.png.9676bc377e4e93a06e92d6434ad1592c.png

The club agreed with my suggestion to go for the Man City link.

The other two offers were not as good, and Leeds were not even offering a financial incentive.

I had been holding off at looking at loan players hoping we might find a link.

Now I have sent the scouts to check out everyone an City to see who we might be able to get for free to fill any gaps.

Not a huge amount of surprise here.

The first teamers stayed pretty consistent, while there was some good growth among some of the 18s.

Some of the lower scored 18s will probably be moved on when their contract is up, but for now they are useful for filling in the numbers in the 18s/23s.

Up next...the season begins.

AUG 2021

The return to the Football League got off to a rocky start:

A slow start to the season, a first up loss resulting from a very nervous start.

Game 2 was a slight improvement but we done enough to get the result.

Our number one striker had two quiet games, then blew the cobwebs off as we tore Tranmere apart.

We then followed it up with two big wins, peeling off 14 goals in three games.

1223139100_TableAUG.png.5a31840574ae702c6a350e60c5e4164c.png

After the first up loss, 4 wins on the bounce has taken us to second place.

A good start, but it's a long way to go.

 The Cups:

Carabao Cup:

1982885752_CarabaoCup.png.94c038c6eb585f3159c92572ef6c7894.png

We keep the winning up making through to the third round, where a date against EPL Aton Villa awaits.

PJT:

1894541444_PJTtable.png.f3a11ffa63b4463cbb4ef794699de2e0.png

We belted them all over the ground, and got beaten 0-2.

Drawn with two teams from the League above us was always going to be tough to get out of the group.

Player performances:

Some quality performances, especially after the first up loss.

There will probably be some more rotation coming to rest some legs.

We got some rewards for the month of August.

Up next...can we make use of the Man City link.

I decided to make use of the Man City link and bring in some extra legs to help with the defence and midfield rotation.

All three are future Championship prospects, so should be useful at this level.

I tried to get a fourth to add play the striker role, but he wouldn't drop down to this level...he'd rather not play in the EPL

Up next...a good start, be can we keep it going?

A great start and it'll be interesting to see how your City loanees do! I've got United on my save and you've reminded me to scout their youth teams for potential loanees!

They have a lot of highly rated kids that would laugh their way through this League, but they either won’t drop down this far, or City won’t let them play this low. Another promotion may solve that. But I am pretty happy so far with the ones I have, they look solid for this level.

if nothing else, they effectively become another sponsor. I think all my sponsorships combined at the moment pull in about 180K a year, and City are paying me 90K. Not an insignificant amount in comparison.

SEPT 2021

1113675478_TableSEPT.png.e3d49c02b530aaf7019030249a83b814.png

Only a disappointing draw at Gillingham prevented a perfect month, they had a player sent off on 24 minutes, didn't register a shot on goal.

We bombarded them, but just couldn't get the ball in the net.

But we find ourselves equal top of the table, with the best for and against in the League.

1556812714_Seveninarow.png.14a94bbfc63ddafe3cbd04684b4cc904.png

We had put together 7 straight wins before the Gillingham draw.

1087264712_Woottoninjured.png.de50c4186b0b72450ca1ee7a8f2862f0.png

We've had to do the back half of this month without one of our first choice forward men, and he will still be missing at the start of October.

Carabao Cup:

787183836_CarabaoCupSEPT.png.1c0cb1d89c0a718ebddca653eee6a37f.png

1778986336_CarabaoCupVAstonsVilla.png.28e2e8d9c52e9785dba6bdb35af9b3ba.png

Just the one game this month, but we pulled off a massive upset by knocking off Premier League side Aston Villa.

I know the EPL sides don't always take this cup seriously, but the sell out helps us financially, so the more games, the better for us.

The players:

Rodders has been a bit hit and miss this season, but is still our main scorer, if he gets it together, this competition could be in trouble.

The midfield have been immense so far this season.

1399179383_SeptemberAnalysis.png.e0c281562eb4fa4f24fa58752baa8e9a.png

While our performances have not been as consistent as I would like, we are still outperforming expectations, and the League as far as the analysts are concerned.

762359339_YoungPotMSEPT.png.eec0ad6c344463e4ee87d885732f62b7.png

Our new CB has slotted in nicely, picking up the Young Player of the Month award for September, and has been putting in some very impressive performances.

Remember this kid was playing for match payments in the National League South last season.

The reign of the Phoe Nix to continue:

The board, the team, the fans, and BBC Nottingham were all pleased to see a new contract signed.

Looks like they are stuck with my attacking intentions for another 4 years.

Up next...Can we keep the impressive League Two performances going?

328257177_OCTshcedhule.png.43cdfbb0b3ea27916076638455764802.png

A tough start to the League sees us welcome 2nd, 3rd, and 6th, with a Piazza Cup visit from from League One Bolton in between.

The League Cup sees Meadow Lane welcome a second straight EPL side.

Looks like a real test of our credentials this month.

With the Plymouth match re-arranged due to Internationals, we had one less game this month.

We continue to hold top of the table, but we are also two games behind.

Other than the Exeter game which was a shoot out, I have been impressed with our defensive efforts, and while we may not score 140 goals like last year, the results and consistency are impressive.

The crowds are still very impressive for this level.

1197506429_Unbeaten9.png.1616f517441cab94a6e2ea1a6501cc74.png

Put together a 9 game unbeaten streak before the Leyton Orient game.

We put in a quality performance to push EPL Everton all the way, but their quality and experience showed out in the end.

Another sell out is good for the finances though.

PJT:

With a long break after the re-arrangement of the Plymouth game I decided to send a strong squad out against League One Bolton, and we managed to get the points in a tight game.

With one game left against Newcastle U23s it might be tough to get out of the group, but we were always up against it anyway.

Performances remain consistent with plenty of the goals and assists being shared around.

I have picked up Tahvon Campbell on trial as a striker to take a look at.

I may have to consider looking for other options for McCrory and Rawlinson in the mid season window, as they are just not getting a look in.

698304579_OCTAnalyst.png.d416aaa2f1366e0700a3a3229de186e4.png

We are still performing above average in the League.

Looking good in both attack and defence.

Up next...a busy November in the League and our FA Cup campaign kicks off.

We rolled through November with another undefeated month, our only dropped points in the re-arranged Plymouth match.

A tidy win over Mansfield in the sold out derby sent the fans home happy.

Good crowds are still rolling in to Meadow Lane for League Two games, and we still have the best for and against in the League.

The first knockout round has seen us drawn against our affiliate Man City U23s.

Wootton has put together a brilliant month and taken over as the leading goal scorer.

Slocombe has still been immense in goal.

Plenty of contributions all up and down the park.

Been particularly impressed with the new comers Obi and Kinsella. There have also been solid contributions by the three Man City loan kids.

 The registration balancing act:

Earlier I mentioned taking Tahvon Campbell on trial to have a look at him.

While I need an extra forward as back up, Campbell being 24 would have needed a Registration slot, and I don't currently have any to give.

As he also rated only a low 60's score, even though he was available on a free, I decided to pass on him.

I might see if I can pick up a young loan in January, either from Man City or elsewhere, as I still have plenty of room in the wage budget, to help out.

I also have some older defenders that are not getting opportunities taking up Registration slots, so they might be loaned out or moved on.

Some of the U18's are also performing really well and my backroom staff are starting to suggest pushing them up to the 1st team.

Having been playing a youth save for a while, I had forgotten what Registration Tetris was like.

Great stuff in league 2. I do a feel a decent tactic and some decent players can have you shooting up quickly in the lower leagues. Back-to-back promotions are definitely doable. And of course, a good loan parent club is fantastic - I had Chelsea in my Charlton save and their loanees were absolute gems. I was almost sad to get promoted to the PL and have the link broken.
