Love the Title! I always refer to them as the "Mustard Makers" in my French saves!

I will catch up and comment more soon!

Should have named your Manager: Grey Poupon! LOL!

Wahay!!! Oh wait, wrong colour....

abfba1c88ff093979307dce6e1f72e6c.png

We completely and utterly bottled it. A deserved victory for Strasbourg who sat deep and marked Assale out the game as well as keeping the ball well and hitting us down the flanks. I'm seething.

2022-23 Season Review

Ligue 1 Results

Well this without doubt the definition of a s***-sandwich . We got off to a great start then drastically capitulated midway. We finally managed to break our poor run of form in February and finished pretty well, but was it enough to qualify for Europe?...

Ligue 1 Table

4df22d6d0bacd4516bc1871de1ac11f3.png

Not quite! A 6th place finish would ordinarily berth you a place in the Europa Conference, but the double-edged sword of losing the cup final to Strasbourg meant that they took the Europa League place and swept the Conference spot from under our feet whilst laughing at us from 7th place. We came so close to catching Monaco and Lyon. Of course PSG won the league comfortably this season, with most of their dropped points coming after they had sealed the league. Bordeaux find themselves relegation for the first time since 1991, and that time it was for administrative reasons not football, before that the last time they played in the second tier was in the 1960s!

Coupe de France

04de00e22fc99c55175b062510ee8e30.png

This is just sickening to look at. Beat PSG, Marseille and Monaco.....bottle it in the final against Strasbourg. A huge opportunity missed :seagull:

Europe

316c6d06dbaccd027fdb2d4b6ff5e05d.png

A great start limped away as we showed that we're not Champions League ready yet, followed by an unlucky loss against Roma in what could have been different had we had the chance to play in Dijon. Perhaps no European football next year could be a blessing in disguise.

Player Stats

a534caad699358076af73186f1f12524.png

Bruno Ecuele-Manga was transferred on a free in January as unfortunately his lack of pace became a liability. Of course Assale was our key man scoring goals across all competitions albeit less in Ligue 1 than previous years (33 in 33 compared to 37 in 31 and 41 in 38). He was closely followed by Chouiar who claimed an incredible 22 Ligue 1 Assists. Arli, Celina, Konate and Azong rounded off the players with average ratings over 7.0 (excluding 2nd choice keeper Allagbe) - the latter a 16 year old centre back who was instrumental in our turnaround of form since breaking through in February.

Facilities

830426284fc8e7f8ae8cbdef3809a1d1.png

A much bigger stadium, excellent facilities and exceptional youth setup. We're close to being on par with the best academies across the world especially as we're due further upgrades to complete on our facilities very soon.

Finances

5d2ce16d4603c7e074f6f6d86cf624ff.png

We're in a very healthy financial state, though it'll be interesting to see how much that is impacted by a lack of European football next season.

Top 5 Performers

Assale --- Chouiar --- Arli --- Celina --- Konate

Academy Breakthroughs

F.Simon --- Azong --- Benamara --- Telga --- Clement

I don't think I've ever shown our keeper Racioppi who has been solid throughout. He also became our captain when Lautoa retired last season.

Unlucky missing out on Europe but it might be a blessing. Regroup and finish stronger next season.

I'd hope so, time to give some of the youngsters league games and really start building for the future.

2023/24 Mid-Season Review

Results

54c78ec0480bf3d7e1ad72ec4df09f73.png

It's been a topsy-turvy season so far with no real good or bad runs of form, just a mix of results. We're unbeaten at home, but we've been awful on our travels picking up just 1 away win vs. Nantes and even that took a 95th minute winner.

Ligue 1 Table

fdc4a6408039fa3e2cd511059bf24514.png

At the half-way point we're sitting in 8th position. Not great, but it's such a tight league with just 5 points separating 3rd and 11th so a string of  good results could push us up towards the European spots. PSG - with recently acquired Havertz, Jota, Tielemans, Ajer and Henderson in their midfield - are looking very strong at the top and the only contenders Marseille are perhaps a bit too far away to give them too many worries this season.

Player Stats

550bcbef5a401e87660687d0fda04487.png

Here's the player stats, organised into what I believe is our first and second XI's. The only first teamer missing from this is 5th choice striker Aurelien Scheidler who has really struggled with injuries this season. On the subject of injuries, we've had our fair share of long(ish) setbacks (Balde, Panzo, F.Simon, Chouiar, Assale, Barbet, Marie, Scheidler...) which has meant a lot of players in and out the side. It's just as well we didn't have European football as we wouldn't have coped.

Ligue 1 Revelation

b75a4f457edafa6f468882a00c01d5f3.png

3cf35cce2d22c69ec6105b4d9ba47ded.png

One player who has been a constant in the year 2023 is Yannick Azong who claimed the Ligue 1 Revelation of the Year. He becomes only the third 17 year old to win the award after Camavinga in 2019 and Basile Boli way back in 1985. I think we've got a real talent on our hands and I'm excited to see him (hopefully) flourish into a top class player.

Youth Intake Preview

This is easily the best of these previews I've seen so far. Let's just hope it lives up to expectations now!

Ooooh a golden generation! :D

d3b4e35a43d0ff91db2f197a670ad670.png

Bouyer looks like a class addition - 16 technique and pace at just 15 years old! I'm tempted to re-train him as a left midfielder as his finishing isn't the best and we're lacking in prospects in that position.

c44ed8752f7312fb984e32d9e4db6313.png

Possibly the first ever Libyan regen I've ever had and he looks great - certainly a DM for the future!

Another hard-working defensive-mid to add to our collection.

If he get's his pace up he could be a solid option at either centre back or right back.

PSG took our home unbeaten record away, Lyon pummelled us and we lost to Bordeaux in the cup on penalties.....but we've managed to hit form with 6 straight wins!

Ligue 1 Table

That rocket of forms takes us flying up to 3rd place, though it's very tight and anything could happen between now and the end of the season between CL qualification and mid-table obscurity.

Ligue 1 Table

Our form saw us almost catch Marseille, eventually settling for 3rd place and a Champions League qualifying berth.

Player Stats

47c784863d8ad1dd130c1be5367d9754.png

Assale was head and shoulders above this season - he missed our cup games through injury so all 39 of his goals were in the league and just two shy of his record despite playing 6 games less. The usual suspects performed - Chouiar, Konate, Celina - while Balde had his best season to date. Benamara established himself as a starter but needs to add more goals to his game.

We now have the best setup possible :D

Finances

We've kept the finances relatively healthy despite the lack of European football and big expenditure on our facilities.

Records

Marie may not be a first-team starter anymore, but he's a club stalwart and just 3 appearances shy of 300. Meanwhile Assale is up to 150 league goals, an incredible feat in just four seasons!

2024/25 Mid-Season Review

Ligue 1 Results

2f916accce7a08a2f41cfce765af2b6b.png

Our long standing unbeaten run of course ended in Paris, but it took a 95th minute winner from new £100m+ signing Mason Greenwood to do so. Back-to-back losses in October were hurtful, but overall form has been good. Ruing the decision to rest several players vs Reims ahead of the Marseille fixture as that's a game we should have won!

Ligue 1 Table

56cc1bb159a8e7be69d7ddd5b35e4292.png

A familiar position for Dijon as we sit in 3rd place at the halfway point. There is a surprise at the top however, Monaco 4 points clear of PSG, whom have drawn far too many games. I'd like to think we're in a title race, particularly if we start 2025 well, but I wouldn't rule out being caught by Lyon or Marseille if we fail to do so.

Champions League

4427816e53259b2cf733529d87161c5f.png

We did very well to navigate our way to the group stages after knocking out two decent sides in CSKA Moscow and Basel. We even got a good couple of good results to start with, but Man City came crashing in to spoil the party. In the end we finished bottom of the group, exactly where we were expected to finish in a very tough quartet.

With European football back on the cards, also back is squad rotation! A few more youngsters were promoted to the first team - most notably Lilian Bouyer, now Ligue 1's youngest ever scorer, and William Mvuemba - to cope with the added fixtures. You will notice Assale hasn't been quite as prolific as in previous years, scoring 13 in 16 in the league and failing to score a single goal in the Champions League. He's now 31 and his biggest asset, pace, is starting to decline :(.

No 5* prospects according to first judgement, but three players who could definitely impact the first team in the future.

b7579ca4fa72533df4695104480d9934.png

Jose Luis could flourish as a striker once he gets his pace up. He's hard working and unpredictable....I just hope he takes to some mentoring as that Determination is awful

Another striker, another possible starlet. Not first team ready yet though in my opinion.

Yet another bloody loss on penalties in the cup :seagull: - fourth time in 5 seasons the only time we didn't get knocked out on pens was the final loss. Still looking good in the league though, apart from the inevitable PSG loss.

Ligue 1 Table

4ef9d37873ba4371c14c92446a9c6dac.png

Monaco have let their lead slip and unbeaten PSG resume top spot. We're 7 points off PSG, but I think we'd need 30/30 points to mount a title challenge as I can't see PSG dropping many more points. Shame we didn't fare any better in our head-to-heads as the table could be a very different story.

We've grabbed ourselves a new assistant manager, replacing Dirk Mack who served as Balmont's no.2 for nearly 5 years. Buvac was known as "The Brain" when working with Klopp at Mainz, Dortmund and Liverpool. Hopefully he can add extra insight here for us. It's sad to terminate Mack after he's done a good job, but Buvac is in place to help us win trophies.

A penalty loss in the cup and two losses against PSG and Monaco marred what was a terrific second half of the season. The loss vs Monaco meant that they leapfrogged us to 2nd.

Ligue 1 Table

1f45b1818d857a6c2a1e9d7fbc2f40c2.png

St Etienne were the team to break PSG's unbeaten record, good lads. We finished miles ahead of 4th, but will have to go through the rigmarole of CL qualifying again next season.

Player Stats

aab11532245713785bd2e84392fdf047.png

Assale is still good, but not the player he once was. It's almost the end of an era.

Seasons

6300d8741bf6b0c1f69140faff2f2ebe.png

You'd usually see an upwards trajectory, but I feel we massively overachieved in the first two seasons with the experience of the original squad and we are still bringing through the youngsters. It'll take time, but we will topple Paris.

2025/26 Mid-Season Review

Ligue 1 Results

6823337639764db7047fefe8fc561084.png

An excellent first half of the season as we go into the festive period unbeaten! Just as I was starting to think Assale had lost his effectiveness and was more of a squad player (even signed a new contract with 'squad player' playing time) he comes back into the side and smashes 7 goals in one game, setting up the other too . If any criticism can be pointed it should be towards the amount of draws, with games at home vs Brest and Caen  being particularly disappointments. I'm very happy with the away draw at PSG however!

Ligue 1 Table

f6246aa056b13bad99d8ddc94e2c993f.png

Unbeaten, yet 6 points adrift of PSG who are also unbeaten and have dropped just 6 points in total so far. The biggest surprise is the lack of competition from the usual continental suspects Monaco, Marseille, Lyon and Lille - especially Lyon who were bottom at one point!

Champions League

ba2d1a18b4138d0a661dc4ab3c7a41a4.png

For some reason instead of going into qualifying we entered straight into the groups - I can only assume that the winners of the Europa League and Conference changed the qualifying somewhat (Porto and Arsenal). I'm really proud of our progress in the CL this season as we beat 2nd and 3rd seeds home and away and narrowly lost to 1st seeds Inter away from home. You could argue a favourable draw as a 4th seed, but sometimes you need some luck!

1ba76ba3beffb4bfe6362b20ea9dd18a.png

We're into the knockout stages for the first time :D.

f97e7952338a71da0ff63b0decdbcba2.png

However, the draw wasn't very kind to us (to be fair the only reasonable tie would have been vs. Porto) so I don't expect us to get much further. Fingers crossed though!

Player Stats

123ca855bebc76a31d38abdde3f6b30a.png

We trimmed our first team by a few fringe players going out on loan so it now fits nicely onto the squad page without scrolling, bliss! Our newly formed striker partnership of Benamara and Vega has tough competition from Assale who forced his way back in despite his waning ability. Vuillemin and Haddad are the last pair to breakthrough into the first team and they've done pretty well when called upon. However, I want to highlight our three 'Wonderkids' as per their descriptions:

Tres Prodige

e648094c301fd5e474a0b588ee92d6ac.png

Benamara is no stranger to the first team having been a regular for the previous three seasons but he's now starting to show his full ability. I'd still like him to offer more goals, but he is a constant creative force.

203a2177576acd41c6595c5991f5ce3f.png

Azong broke into the first team in February 2023 and he has been a key player ever since. I'd say he's my favourite player, after Assale of course.

b874d5ad46f00aefa93c66e502731280.png

Vega is the most recent player to gain the Wonderkid moniker and he's really starting to flourish. He'll be the long term replacement for Assale despite the old dog not quite wanting to give up his place yet!

Youth Preview

8a851fa20abce01eec9691cd32fd0585.png

If things were starting to look a bit too rosey, then the news of a poor intake incoming spoilt it a little. Ah well, you can't expect every intake to be top class!

So Jordan Marie left at the end of his contract after wanting to seek a new challenge, but must have thought better of it two months later and retired when he was offered the DOF role at the club. It's more of an honorary role considering we don't make any transfers - his only responsibilities are deciding which coaches go on courses and leading the moot scouting meetings

A beautiful run in the cup sees us through to the final :). We were also doing great in the league until PSG came along, let's hope we can get some revenge in the cup final. An excellent 1-0 first leg against Real Madrid gives us a great chance of getting through - as long as we score we can lose by one goal. I blame the fact that we played a second string side in anticipation of the 2nd leg on the loss vs Brest, which means we are now 10 points adrift with 10 games to play.
