Attributes, Starts or CA/PA

When building a squad how do you choose your players, Do you use the star system to indentify quality players, or attributes for creating a certain style perhaps or do you pick players based solely on their CA by using the ecitor or other external programmes?

I have a look at the team report, but will use attributes and role suitability to select players and formations.

I'll use the star system to initially determine if I look at a player or not and then look at the particular player attributes to see if they are good in areas that I want them to perform well in e.g. wingers high pace, dribbling, etc.

Remember that stars also shows player's ability to play at specific role. So you can have a good player on paper, but because his attributes are distributed to certain role(s) like good playmaking attributes but bad physicals - his mezzala/carrilero role stars will be star or two less than his AP/DLP roles.

I assume "building a squad" means buying/loaning new players to the club.

I mostly look at History -> Career Stats. If he has played most of the matches last season, I then look at where his team finished and if they did better than me I will most likely sign that player.

I use the stars too, but I don't sign a 5 star player who is 23 years old and has never played any competitive matches.

AI is sometimes terrible in playing youth, there are a lot of u21/u22 players in germany/holland/spain that are in B teams for few years and they are released without any official match played.
