Brentford FC Brief History Brentford Football Club is a professional association football club based in Brentford, Greater London, England. The reason why I picked Brentford was their unique approach to recruitment What Brentford did a few years a go was get rid of their academy due to the fact they were sick of the big Prem teams nicking their youngsters and not getting much for them. They decided to change their recruitment process by scrapping the academy and simply bringing in kids released from Prem teams aged between 17-20 years old and also scouring the world for bargains. What they do is buy cheap and sell for profit, their owner Matthew Benham is a profressional gambler so you expect that approach. Some of the players they have signed cheap and sold are the following. Scott Hogan - Signed from Rochdale for £750k and sold for £11 million. Ezri Konza - Signed for £3m and sold for £12m Neal Maupay - Signed for £1.6m and sold for £15m Chris Mepham - Come through the youth ranks at Brentford and sold for £12m James Tarkowski - Signed for £350k and sold for £4m Ollie Watkins - Signed for £1.8m and sold for £28m They use their own data company called Smartodds to find players who thrive with certain stats you wouldn't normally scout them for. They usually sign Scandinavian players especially Danish players as they have that link with Matthew Benhams other club he owns FC Midtjylland. I got a healthy budget of £48m to spend and I am going to break it up into sections. First Team Signings Martin Linnes - 28 year old Norwegian Full Back Another versatile player who can play anywhere on the wings whether its his main position as a full back or on the actual wings feeding the strikers. Didn't cost me anything as he was a free transfer. Patrick Van Aanholt - 30 year old Dutch Left Back I couldn't say no to signing Van Aanholt even though it went against Brentford's usual transfer policy. I needed some Premier League experience and he has plenty of that and a decent set piece taker. Another free signing. Victor Nelsson - 21 year old Danish Centre Back I was going to put him as one for the future but he is going to be playing a lot of first team football either in the centre of defense or just infront of the defense as a DM. He has very good strength and jumping reach which will come in handy on set pieces. He was signed for £7.5m from FC Kobenhaven. Nathaniel Clyne - 29 year old English Right Back I feel like this is a right coup for Brentford. Over 300 games played in the Prem. A great right back with a few years left in him. Excellent at tackling with great teamwork and work rate. Also could be a great mentor for the younger players. Also signed as a free transfer. Evander - 22 year old Brazilian Midfielder Evander signed from our affiliate Football Club Midtjylland for £10m. The 22 year old Brazilian can play anywhere in midfield and has good first touch, dribbling, passing and and has 17 in tekkers. Hopefully his Samba skills will make him a fans favorite. Jefferson Lerma - 25 year Columbian Midfielder I don't know much about Lerma. I aint seen much of him on tv but my DOF rated him and bought him to the club so I will trust his judgment. He has excellent tackling, bravey and natural fitness so I am hoping he will be my midfielder enforcer closing the opposition down. Signed from Bournemouth for £3.7m. Rogelio Funes Mori - 29 year old Argentinian Striker I have ever heard of this player and my DOF were the one's who signed him but I think he might turn out to be the best signing for the season. He has 86 goals in 166 games for his previous club Monterrey who we signed for £3m which should be a bargain. I am excited about Mori who has excellent finishing. He is also good at heading and has good technique. Jose Mauri - 24 year old Argentinian Midfielder The former AC Milan player was signed on a free transfer. I got quite a few central midfielders at the club but I felt like he would be a good option and maybe someone I could sell on for a fee down the road as he is only 24 years old and has a fairly ambitious personality. Ones For The Future Jason Knight - 19 year old Irish Midfielder I know Knight well from a previous Derby save I had. I am hoping to bed him into the first team through cup games and see how he does. He will get game time. I signed him for £5m which will be a bargain if he develops properly. Ben "Diaz" Bereton - 21 year old English player on the game but Chilean international in real life Ben Bereton who in real life has recently played for Chile national team. He has been one for the future for a few years now since he started at Notts Forest and has done well for Blackburn but his future lies with Brentford after I signed him for £5m. Gustav Dahl - 16 year old Danish Midfielder After scouting through Denmark I managed to find this highly rated Danish 16 year old player with massive potential and has a fairly determined personlity. Maybe I got the new Christian Eriksen. He signed from AaB for £1.3m. Andre Almeida - 20 year old Portuguese Midfielder Another midfielder signed up by my DOF from Vit. Guimarães for £2m. He is good enough to play games already and will only get better with great potential. He has good passing, acceleration and technique. William Boving - 17 year old Danish Winger/Striker Boving is another great Danish prospect with 4 star potential and has already got decent dribbling, acceleration and technique. Then Man Utd come back to be winning 3-2. I thought it was doomed but we equalized very quickly and then out of nowhere we get a penalty and Funes Mori converts it to give the Bees a great win. Ronaldo Beckham Posted July 20, 2021 Author Share Posted July 20, 2021 Brentford Season 1 Review The Bees stung the opposition and managed to get a 9th place finish. I class it a great first season but were in 6th place for a lot of the season but fizzled out near the end of the season with a few key losses coming up the key point of the season. Lack of Prem experience is probably what happened but it was a great first season. Key Men Ben Brereton-Diaz was the key man up front this season with a goal tally of 23 goals in 38 games played. He surpassed my expectations as I only saw him as a back up but he started the first few games and done really well so I kept him in. Ben Brereton-Diaz My other key signing was Evander signed from my affiliate Football Club Midtjylland for £10m. He got himself 7 goals and 4 assists and he scored some important goals including a free kick in a 1-0 win Vs Man City. Evander The signing I was a bit disappointed in was Rogelio Funes Mori who only got 5 goals but I do think he was a big reason why Brereton-Diaz done well for us as he was a perfect foil for him to score. Funes Mori got 8 assists which was a big help. I just wish he scored more. Rogelio Funes Mori My aim for next season is to get European football. I have £49m to spend in the summer so I will be looking at bringing in good quality Danish player like Christian Eriksen if possible as he is on the transfer list. So far I have signed D'Margio Wright-Phillips, Lasse Sorenson, David Okagbue, Leonardo Rodriguez, Andreas Christensen and Jean Belehouanne but I still have a lot of the window left and will do a full write up later. Christian Eriksen keeps rejecting my attempts to bring him in. I might have to wait till next season if I qualify for Europe. Replicating the Brentford model in the game seems the best way to do it - under the radar players from Denmark and France and the English third/fourth tier. Interesting club, brand new stadium and after their win against Arsenal last Friday it has inspired me to give it a go. Ive just completed season 1 and finished way better than expected in 7th to qualify for the Europa Conference league. Started the season fantastically well and heading into December I was in a Champions League spot but around January/February I had a terrible run where I went on a winless run of 7 or 8 games but I finished the season fairly strongly, beating Wolves and then relegating Southampton, I then beat already relegated Newcastle 4-0 before finishing the season with a 2-1 defeat at Chelsea and a backs to the wall 1-1 draw away at Man City after Ethan Laird was sent off after 15 minutes. Really enjoyed that 1st season and managed to cling on to a top 7 finish, I havent been given my budget for the new season yet but I need to strengthen in a few areas. Ive already brought in Patrick Roberts from Man City. I signed Arezo in January but he didnt get a work permit so he has been on loan at Stuttgart and has scored 8 in 11 so Im hoping he gets a work permit on his return. Ajer was immense in central defence as was Papetti (loan from Arsenal), Toney was very hit and miss up front and ended the season with a respectable 13 goals in the Premier League. Another new signing Adam Armstrong finished the season with 14 goals. I need a consistent goal scorer and Im hoping I can finally get Arezo firing with Brentford. I think Im set with the goalkeeper and defence, maybe need a back up to Raya in goal and someone to replace Papetti unless he comes back on loan. I need wingers as Mbuemo has been poor all season and turns in regular 6.3/6.2 average ratings. 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
