Why does he need a best 11? :D  We always knew we would need to play seven matches to win it.  You don't hear this "doesn't know his best team!" criticism of a club manager, people just expect them to shift things around from game to game.  Turning up to an international tournament with a first XI in the manager's head and expecting to try and play it every game... that's where we have gone wrong before.

Building a squad of players with lots of options and the ability to switch things around... this is literally Gareth's greatest achievement in the job, it's absolutely bizarre to have it thrown at him as a criticism.  Especially by a so-called pundit and just not a loudmouth bore in the pub.

WTF are you on about!? Rio was praising Gareth for it :ackter:

You're a touch sensitive Rob1981......:D

This is an odd interview. Asking them how much money they are making??

That was incredibly awkward viewing, they didn’t really know how to answer it and she pushed it again.

Looking at the videos on Twitter of English fans smashing their way through barriers and turnstiles is utterly embarrassing.

Not really, more "he doesn't know his best eleven!" so he has to keep changing people about and he's getting away with it

Credit him with actually picking different teams to match up against the opponents' strengths

Has anyone mentioned that other team yet?

Nope.  As usual there is no analysis.  The best pre-match stuff has been on 5live.  They have had James Horncastle on quite a bit who follows Italian football for the Athletic.

If Southgate has stuck rigidly to a 4231/433 and didn't try another formation he'd have been criticised for that too.

To be fair, hear it all the time when teams are struggling saying the manager doesn’t know his best 11. Ole got it quite abit last season.

We're not missing out on TV if Horncastle is the best they have to offer on radio

If there's one thing the English love more than fighting foreigners its fighting ourselves

Why are we smashing up our own city ffs? That's the same point these morons throw out at BLM protests, for example, that turn violent. "Hurr hurr, they're smashing up their own neighbourhood"

He’s gone….he’s gone :D

Emotions all over the place now.  I'm not sure I ever thought we would win it tbf.  I mean I knew Gareth would prove people wrong, I thought we'd got a big R16 performance in us against a Germany or a Portugal.  I thought semi finalists as a minimum.  But now we are in the final I honestly don't know how to feel.  It's been so cathartic getting past the semi final hoo-doo and seeing the performances improve and watching this group of lads bond and grow together.  Can't be too devastated tonight either way.  But home final and all, we would look back on it as a missed opportunity for sure.

Thing is, it feels like this team has got a lot more to give.  Even though it's been 55 years etc. it's not a Greece 2004 or a Denmark 1992 where we have defied the odds to get this far and it's our one chance to win something.  Looking at how young they all are and how they are developing together, you would surely back us for more semis and finals over the next 3-4 tournaments.  Although you would have said that about the Euro 96 defeat and we end up falling short over and over and romanticising it for a quarter of a century.
