Well here we go.

HISTORY

1966 - THEY THINK IT'S ALL OVER. And for England winning trophies, it kinda was.

1970 - First choice keeper missing, England coasting, Bobby subbed off, Muller time.

1990 - Shilton back pedalling, Lineker equalising, posts being hit in ET, Pearce and Waddle :/

1996 - Football's Coming Home, Shearer's header, Barry Davies trying to say Kuntz without upsetting 30m viewers, Anderton hitting the post, Gazza not reaching an open goal, German goal disallowed, penalties AGAIN.

2000 - One of the worst games ever I reckon :D but we won so who cares

2001 - Carsten Jancker, the ref playing loads of added on time to allowed Gerrard to score, Owen's hattrick, HESSSEEEKKKEEEEEEEYYYYY, 1-5. (I actually can't quite believe its only 5 years between this and Euro 96 :D )

2010 - This was brutal.

ROAD TO THE LAST 16...

England 1-0. 0-0 1-0.

Germany started with a tight 1-0 defeat to France. They then went to town on Portugal with a seriously impressive performance. 4-2. But then they only just got past Hungary with a 2-2 draw. I'm unconvinced.

My head says England should win this, my heart is telling me 51 years of hurt.

Never a better chance for England to win the Euros, imo. If they fail, it has to go down as a huge opportunity missed. No one is looking particularly strong. The Covid football year continues to throw up surprises. Win tomorrow and it very well could spell a big summer for England!

It will definitely feel a massive "what if?" for sure. I don't think we should be overly harsh if we get beat by Germany, they're not what they were but they still have enough quality to beat anyone. Get through that, and anything outside of the final will be seen as very disappointing.

Maybe this weird year is one for the Czechs or the Swiss?

Yeah, shades of Greece or Denmark. The fans of every 'bigger' team are entertaining the same 'easy from now on' thought. But judging by the games so far, it is almost as if the 'smaller' teams have collectively found a way to frustrate, even beat the bigger ones. Not a single team have been able to convince anyone they are the dead certain top dogs.

It's a shame this is so early.

It's really not, biggest game for England since the WC semi....we're within 24 hours of it....definitely acceptable.

Late night game would be better for the atmosphere, if England are to win then the 43,000 in Wembley will play a massive part, the more it builds up, the better.

Nah, plays into our hands in the 5pm kickoff. Everyone knows our worst and most crushing gut-wrenching defeats come late at night under the lights.

Yet another reason why it’s definitely coming home.

Awful night's sleep and can only be the football on my mind. Think what's making it worse is knowing how good our side of the draw is and now France going out means we'll never ever get a better opportunity to win something.

But then I think what if we do beat Germany then lose to Sweden in the next round, that would be worse than losing today so seeing as we usually bugger it up at some point losing today to a good team would be easier to take than losing to a lesser team later on so best to just get the defeat out the way.

Then I realise the next round doesn't matter yet so stop thinking about it so I do for a bit but that doesn't last long and then it all starts again.

Don't think I've ever felt like this before any football match in my life.

:D That's some good old-fashioned angst right there. Relax, it's a football match, not prom night.

I'm already as nervous as I was in 1998 immediately before the shootout against Argentina.

That went well 😬

Just want us to turn up and perform. If we lose but play well and are ultimately beaten by a better German performance I can deal with that.

A damp squib defensive performance with a back three and a Rice and Phillips midfield would be a nightmare 90/120 minutes.

No penalties please.

Can anyone else remember from 96 the players TV interviews where they had a competition to try and fit as many song titles as possible into there answers. Certain Shearer managed to mention Club Tropicana (Wham) in one of he's.

France 98 this was. Halcyon days.

Southgate's pragmatic tactics are starting to look pretty smart. It might not be the dazzling football some people want to see, but I don't think Switzerland would have given England the trouble they caused France.

The very thing some England fans have taken issue with could be the thing that wins them the tournament.
