hrmantovani
Introduction I guess everyone knows this challenge already and this might be more of the same, but I decided to do it seriously for my first time ever. I never made any real progress on the National Team side of the challenge and this time I'll be looking to change this. For this save I'm using a custom file that puts San Marino Calcio on the Serie D (4th tier of Italian football). In real life, there's a club called Cattolica Calcio San Marino, the result of a merge between Cattolica Calcio and San Marino Calcio. This club played the 2019/20 season in Serie D and they were there in this file, but I exchanged them and the extinct San Marino Calcio. Cattolica Calcio is now extinct so they shouldn't appear at any point during the save. The end goal is winning the World Cup with San Marino so this challenge might never be completed by me, but I'm creating this thread anyways to track my progress as the threads for the challenge are gone (FM21) and dead (FM20). This save is in FM20 and I won't be in charge of the San Marino national team from the start of the save. I have some "achievements" and some of them involve youth teams, so I might manage the San Marino U19 or U21 before i get to the Senior. I'll be starting the save as Andy Selva, the greatest goalscorer ever for the national team with 8 goals and former San Marino Calcio player, with 4 goals in 29 games. My plan is getting to the Serie A as soon as possible to get enough money to improve my youth system. I'll also try to get affiliated clubs in the San Marino league to keep my prospects playing. hrmantovani
Save setup I also have loaded all Sammarinese players plus players from top clubs of every country, for a total of 120,000 players. The manager I decided to start with a Continental C License because Andy Selva has already managed the San Marino U17s. In our timeline this is actually where he came from to manage the San Marino Calcio and its project. I also have Professional player at national level as my past playing experience. He spent most of his career playing in Italy but he's known exclusively for his time with the San Marino NT. hrmantovani
Preseason 2019/20 We started out our career losing the 2 first games, including one against Sammarinese club La Fiorita. After this we won everything, including our first official match on the Coppa Serie D First Round. Luckily we won it as it could have been the end of our participation in the greatest competition of the year (technically it's the Serie D as it gives the promotion we want, but the Coppa has all Serie D teams together). We also hired Massimo Bonini, the greatest Sammarinese player ever. He won the 1984-85 Champions League as a starter for Juventus and played almost 200 games for them from 1981 to 1988. He only played 19 games with the National Team as he only got his first cap in 1990, when he was 31. According to Wikipedia: Quote "Since the San Marino Football Federation was not officially recognised by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) until 1990, players from San Marino were assimilated to Italian players. For this reason, Bonini was entitled to play for the Italian Football Federation and actually played for the Italian Under-21 football team. Since he always refused to give up the citizenship of San Marino, he had to wait until 1990 in order to play for San Marino's first team, winning 19 full caps since then. He played his first match for San Marino against Switzerland on 14 November 1990." He wasn't the official best option for the role but I liked the idea of having him in the club. Transfers All free transfers as I realocated the budget to 100% wage. The best players arriving are Andrea Giuseppini (RB) and Victor Fundi (ST). hrmantovani
September 2019 Poor start to the league but we are on the top half of the table. We also advanced to the Third Round on the Coppa, when we'll be facing Recanatese, the team 1 position above us. hrmantovani
October 2019 Another win in the Coppa but we are still not convincing in the league. We'll now be facing Cartigliano in the Coppa. Edited July 20, 2021 by hrmantovani
hrmantovani
November 2019 Our first great month and we are already 3rd in the league and in the Coppa QFs. The first month we end inside the playoff zone, but we have to aim higher since the 1st place grants automatic promotion. hrmantovani
December 2019 We had a good December and only dropped points away to Recanatese, who is chasing us for the 1st place. We are also in the semifinals of the Coppa. First time we end the month in such a good place. I hope we can keep this form going. hrmantovani
San Marino NT - 2019 Amazing campaign for our standards. This is the first San Marino official win ever! hrmantovani
January 2020 Good win against Campobasso, hopefully we don't mess this up. I rotated the squad against Chieti and saw our first loss in a while. Our 1st place is in danger now. Youth intake preview Excellent group of players, looking forward to see the "plenty of promise" full-back and the striker "who has caught the eye". hrmantovani
March 2020 March was a little better than February but we still ended up 6 points behind the 1st place. Hopes of automatic promotion are nearly gone. Youth intake That's what the game called a fine prospect! 4,5 stars CA is huge already. Sadly he's also Argentinian and this is probably going to be a problem for the National Team as he will refuse the first call-ups until he realizes he has no chance on the Argentinian NT. Apart from him Matteo Stefanelli and Luca Raschi might also be good despite their negative personalities. David Fleitas (20A) Matteo Stefanelli (20B) Luca Raschi (20C) San Marino local youth intake I'll also be scouting the youth intakes from the clubs in the Sammarinese league every year and if we get a good prospect I'll bring him in. All teams are amateur by now but hopefully this will change in the future. We don't have many scouts so it takes some time to scout everybody. Intakes from the Sammarinese league summed up to a total of 207 players. From the ones I have already scouted, the best player is Moreno Salvelli, from Folgore. I already signed him and he's joining us in July. Edited July 20, 2021 by hrmantovani
hrmantovani
April 2020 I don't know how exactly we are mathematically guaranteed in the Playoffs but I'll take it. hrmantovani
Preseason 2020/21 3 wins in August against Serie D opponents and 1 comfortable win in July against the Serie C side Campodarsego. Transfers We already lost our top prospect. He was way bigger than we are right now and the board decided to let him go while still keeping 15% of his next sale. I think we'll get a great amount from this clause. I had to sign lots of players because more than half of the old squad is gone after their contracts expired. hrmantovani
October 2020 We lost before the round of 16, quite an early exit for us in a competition I thought we could win this year. hrmantovani
November 2020 Only 1 goal conceded in the month, against the last placed team. hrmantovani
January 2021 We lost twice in a month, one of them being to a team in relegation. We are tied now. hrmantovani
March 2021 Another good month for us. Fano did exactly the same as we did, with 7 points in 3 games, and we still lead the competition 4 points ahead of them. We have 5 games to secure this automatic spot in Serie C. Youth intake I had higher hopes because of the amazing preview we had, but that's alright. The 2,5 CA Horacio Montemurro looks amazing for us, sadly he won't be able to help us in the NT. I just wish we don't get stolen like we did with David Fleitas. Edited July 21, 2021 by hrmantovani

hrmantovani
April 2021 We lost to Fano but 3 wins in a month guaranteed us the trophy! I'll give some playing time to youth prospects in the last match and we'll be in Serie C. I don't know about our status though. Everyone in Serie C is professional and we are still semipro. We'll also participate in Serie D Poule Scudetto, a little tournament between the 9 group winners of Serie D. I don't know about FM20, but this competition has been a problem in the past years as it makes us go into the next season before being able to turn pro. hrmantovani
Preseason 2021/22 This preseason was harder than the previous ones as the Coppa Italia began long before I could finish my transfers, but gladly we are still alive. Transfers No transfers out, we only lost players due to contract expiration. But we got our first offer for Horacio Montemurro (21A) already, from Ascoli. It's pretty bad but means teams are looking at him. Season preview We are not predicted last but still far far away from surviving.
