Exclude teams qualified for the Champions League Group Stage

I wanna create a competition with 6 clubs from 6 nations. Participants: one best team from each nation, teams that has not qualified for the Champions League Group Stage (so, if the league winner is in the CL Group Stage, then second best team from the league).

I made a beta version of the competition but in this example I'm able to exclude every team in the Champions League. So, if the team plays qualifications for the CL, they are excluded in this example.

So, is there even a way to exclude only Group Stage teams without editing the Champions League as a competition?

You're on the right track with "ignore teams" but use "get best teams in competition" and continue to select the Champions League, with "max teams" at 32. That should work as long as your setup date occurs when the group stage has been set, obviously

Thanks for your help. I know it has been a very long time since I asked how to solve this problem.

I didn’t play FM21 at all over the summer, but I have now decided to create the same add-on for FM22 and this was really helpful.
