We went past the most excruciating month in Spanish (lower leagues) season looking really good. A lot more greens than i expected. Away draw at Calahorra does sting a bit but we had a cup match to prepare for. Speaking of which...

Copa Federación de España

Finally, one cup match!! Really, really missed those during Cadiz B years. Honestly, i'm usually annoyed by the Cup but after being away, i couldn't wait to play in one again. Full strength side, we made a quick work of San Cristobal.

Off to face Ebro in the Second Round.

Full strength, well rested side easily dispatched Ebro. Next in line is one well known foe, from my time back at Cadiz.

They're bloody invincible.

Well, that was a short one... One or two victories and we're in the final.

Which is played in front of our own fans. Monumental chance for our first trophy. My first trophy. Burgos is decent albeit underperforming side. If we play as we did so far, we can take them.

First thing first, our first final. Sadly, we failed to bring it home. They took the lead at the right time, early on and then made it double just as second half rolled in. Castillo halved their advantage from penalty spot with Petrovic bringing us into ET after corner, just as time was running out. Nothing much happened during extra time, aside from us going man down when Higor Rocha picked up an injury after all subs were already made. Penalties, we missed the first one, Burgos' players were infallible and Copa RFEF goes into their trophy cabinet.

Definition of mixed month. Injuries piled up, suspensions came to effect, jadedness kicked in and Tudelano leapfrogged us on the league table.

Copa del Rey

Somehow we were in Copa del Rey. And somehow we caught Segunda leaders with their pants down.

We'll host Espanyol in what will most likely be end of the road for us.

Barcelona graduate brought in. David Cuerva, our former vice captain and García's backup (DMC) kept pestering me ever since i gave his VC role to Higor Rocha (one of the conditions for signing with us). Finally, i granted him his wish and got Ferran in. He's already our most valuable player and locked in starting XI. Sorry, Víctor. Sarsadenas is just so, so good.

We were perfect coming into new 2022. Still third but it seems like we're catching up to Andorra, who seems to be in a bit of a crisis, having suffered two straight defeats.

Copa del Rey

b0535abd74c69f5fbeaad146af183cde.png

Still, it wasn't as bad i thought it would be...

Extended our excellent unbeaten run, completed another month without sour taste of defeat but... But... But it's like my players don't want to take over that #1 place. We even beaten bloody Andorra (once more) but couldn't properly finish in two games that came after so we're still in their shadow. Tudelano isn't giving up too.

We've won the league on goal difference!!! First title of this kind for Prat, first of any kind for myself.

Bloody brilliant. I haven't expected it before season started but we surely deserved it. Outstanding through and through.

But...

There's always a but.

In Spain, winning the league doesn't guarantee you promotion. That's what play off is for.

It's not over yet. There's more games to play. And we already got our opponent.

Despite being better of the two in our first encounter, set pieces has been our undoing. During rematch, though, everything went according to plan. We had the luck to score two early goals and basically shut down the game even before first half ended. It was boring to watch but it got us what we needed.

Also, it got us this.

4af895c6749cf1dd141177f0d5b0de7f.png

As a result, we're going full time.

There's still Segunda B finale to play, for a title of Segunda B division ultimate champion. We got what we wanted but why not at least try and win the bloody thing when we have a chance...

With promotion in the bag, we went into Final with no pressure to succeed. It was a proper boxing match, with Touaizi's goal in added time being the breaking point for Extremadura. They haven't recovered after that one and we basically played with them during second half before Rocha rounded up the score.

Aaaannd we bottled it. Multiple factors are to blame. Myself first, as i thought it would be easy following our performance during second half of first game. Thinkering with tactics that worked tremendously so far. Mixing up team selection. Add to that our chronic weakness and once again conceded goal from set pieces (Raul Asencio, direct free kick) and that's a recipe for disaster.

Two trophies we've missed out on this season.

****ing hell!!

A.E. Prat  //  Season Review

2021/22

Segunda División B Grupo II (1st place)

Fixtures

August - December :: January - June

For a side that was predicted to end up 18th, we did rather well, i'd say... We were (most of the time) tight at the back, compact and lethal in final third. Spent a lot of time this year behind Andorra. Pique's team gave us really tough time, i honestly expected them to pull Almeria from my final year at Cadiz but luckily they slipped their foot off the gas and we were able to catch up to them and eventually win the league. Despite our best efforts not to.

Copa Federación de España

Got to the Final without single goal conceded only for Burgos to take us out like a chimps.

Yes, i'm still tiny little bit bitter about it.

Copa del Rey

Surprised Girona, went out swinging against Espanyol. Not bad for first time.

Squad

462c0376bea2172aa7d2bcaa4a966139.png

We already have decent goalie. Lovely center backs. Decent core in midfield. Useful striker. We could use new rightback, maybe add some depth but i don't expect to change things up massively.

But you and i know i'm gonna do it.

Can't help myself.

Hopefully this bit of news will rein me in a little.

Transfers

c21e13495ab7bfe93bed58fe292ad51f.png

Aside from Nabil Touaizi extending his stay for another season, nothing of note happened.

Finances

f5009595aa16ce9ab50bcd17a71c530e.png

Looks fine at the moment. I'm waiting to see what consequence will announcement of our brand new stadium have on balance.

Player Of The Season

Higor Rocha

He wasn't exactly consistent. Nor exactly his own self after coming back from twisting his ankle. But Higor is easily our top scorer and our most influential player as we often struggle to score or even create without him on the pitch.

Next Season

One simple objective.

Survive.

Around the World

England

The Reds makes it two in a row. United on a downfall. Newcastle, Aston Villa and Blackburn are back in the Prem, with The Blades, Stoke and Birmingham going other way.

France

PSG got Harry Kane. Of course this league is so bloody boring.

Germany

The Red Bulls got it before Borussia Dortmund did!!

Hannover and Paderborn are back in top tier, with HSV keeping Union Berlin at bay (and at Zweite).

Italy

Conte's Inter finally did it!! Juventus suffered similar fate as Bayern, they drew way too many games than they should.

Brescia, Genoa and Verona back among elites.

Serbia

Third one in a row for Partizan. It was so, so tight...

Spain

Title is going back to Catalonia. Real and Barca are playing ping pong with it, it seems. Cadiz survived. Betis, Deportivo and Zaragoza coming back from under below.

A.E. Prat  //  Preseason

Early September, transfer window closed, it's time to see what business have we done.

Transfers

a60e9ffb87edc153814c9cd73d91dee4.png

We've spent some money!! I did have pretty hefty transfer kitty last year but no one to sign. Turns out, more people are willing to play in Segunda.

Bad jokes aside, let's get to know the new guys.

4ec0438e951776eecf180ad4ca2660ed.png

Real Madrid product. Not a single match played for them. That's gonna change here in Prat, Adrian, my boy...

cf1a24cac2dc7b1d768252a194efc189.png

Confession: I often laughed at English-speaking FM people on Youtube for their inability to pronounce names that are not from their speaking area. Then i met this guy.

I'm gonna call him Billy.

d066dde93cf400073a42db2eb45b7ee1.png

I'm still not sure how we got him. He's brilliant.

6e242bee11ba3fa8ad40f2cc683cdc89.png

Not a single decent left back was available for us to sign. Not. A. Single. One. So i've got a midfielder to play as one.

908b99235fec0f7d2990162206de5534.png

He's not great. But he was in our price range. Wanted to come here for peanuts. And definitely an upgrade to what we had.

0fdafb1796cedc7d812784be990c7b66.png

Looked for a backup keeper and saw Dani was available. Have some fond memories with him from past games and just had to bring him in.

b64d357d8d05a660794f10013de4d1a5.png

Serbian kid (PPM is an obvious clue) born at Cyprus, came through Ebro (Segunda Division B Group II) academy. Girona picked him up for 9k last year and i guess he hasn't left an impression. I wanted better, more technical midfield in the mix and after pretty much all of my targets (Alberto Soro, Martin Calderon, Martin Svidersky, to name a few) chose others, i went for Nenad.

Squad

37e457e50c03ea94d38cc3ce11054b01.png

Haven't changed that much (per my standards) but we are definitively stronger, a lot stronger than last year.

We had a great, great start to our Segunda life. Nerve-wracking opener against Barca B and their insane 343 flat, followed by much more "Prat" performance versus Tenerife only for Girona to bring us back to ground.

As long as there's more green than any other colors, i won't complain. Our defense isn't as strong or well oiled as it was last season and i'm aware it'll take some time for our new players to get to know each other.

Once more, as long we're getting points, i'm happy. There's no imperative to do anything so let's just enjoy the ride...

Higor Rocha is so bloody brilliant at this level. Lad just can't stop scoring. That is, as long as he's fit. Higor started picking up this small injuries, nothing serious but it usually happens day or two before the game. We missed him badly versus Las Palmas. Still, we're doing remarkably well. Long it may continue.

Made it seven unbeaten in a row, kept our fifth place as 2022 is nearing its end. Such a brilliant year for us. Got promoted, currently wreaking havoc in Segunda. Lovely, just lovely.

Now going on a two weeks break. Batteries to fill. Maybe find a replacement for our Victor Garcia, who suffered a broken ankle not long ago. He'll be back sometime in April and while our fixture list isn't congested or anything, i'd love a backup option.

That's what i thought last night. But when i turned it on this morning, somehow it didn't feel right. Don't know how to describe it but... I'm taking it easy. I'm not in a hurry. Another job in Primera will pop up soon, as long as we keep doing the right things and performing at Prat.

There's one i have my eyes one... Well, two actually. Deportivo is another relegation threatened side and should they decide to sack Sandoval, i'll throw my hat into ring. Second club i'd take over at this point in time is Cadiz. But their manager is secure for the time being.

Levante U.D. S.A.D. //  Best XI

Álvaro Fernández

Albert Bauza    Berat Djimsiti    Ronald Araújo    Iván Martín

Nemanja Radoja

José Campaña    Rubén Rochina

Torben Mikkelsen                                                Rafik Zekhnini

Jordan Ayew

Bauza and Martin are playing out of position but until we get our hands on proper fullbacks, they have to. To be honest, Bauza actually looks tailor-made for RB.

Mikkelsen isn't my favorite pick for AMR but his alternative is Raúl Alcaina so i'm giving young Dane a chance to wreak havoc down the right. He's one speedy fella.

Rubén Rochina is leaving for Rayo Vallecano on free and while i debated whether to use him at all, we need our best XI on the pitch. So he's playing.

Flawless in March though i'm only responsible for games post Granada (including that one). This team is ridiculously OP for this league IMO. I have no idea how previous manager(s) screwed up so bad.

Also, there's kind of a rebuild happening behind the scenes.

Christian Albert is on his way out to Italy as he agreed to join Genoa.

Nemanja Radoja pestered me about wanting out because they got relegated. Alaves and Leganes came for him and he chose the former.

Also, we're currently in the bidding war as half of the English Premier League is going after Ronald Araújo. We have a range of bids accepted, going from 25 to 34mill so now is up to him where he want to go.

His replacement(s) are already secured so i'm fine with him leaving for stupid money. Dael Fry (Fulham, 4mill) and Ardy Mfundu (Schalke 04, Bosman) are joining us when transfer window open.

Giacomo Raspadori is coming in from Sassuolo, following three seasons on loan at various Serie B clubs.

Sead Haksabanovic and Joan Rovira (newgen) are arranged before i took over.

One **** up against future champions Huesca as we... As we... As we got into direct promotion places!! With one game in hand.

Prat isn't that far behind. With promotion now ours to lose... I'm thinking it would be lovely for them and us to go up, together.

It's official now. We're going straight back up into Primera. Had some trouble to break teams down, especially those who had like 10 players behind the ball but in the end won those games on pure quality alone.

Promotion means that our best player,José Campaña, doesn't want to leave anymore.

And i've got a nice transfer kitty to play with in the coming summer.

Also, Prat got their place in PO. Though they're in free fall now. Hopefully they'll sort it out.

Ended the season in a glorious fashion. Climbed over Barca B to claim 2nd place. Malaga bottled it, allowing Las Palmas to take their place in the play offs. Prat finally won.

Season Review

LaLiga SmartBank

Fixtures

August - December :: January - April :: May - June

Few roadblocks down the way but Levante are back where they belong, in top tier of Spanish football.

Copa del Rey

Previous manager hasn't gotten very far after trashing Inter Madrid in the First Round.

Squad

e19d5e24a1aa142ae18ab6f7a5a08971.png

We'll be watching an entirely different Levante come next season. Few mainstays will remain, Alvaro Fernandez, Jose Campana, brilliant Albert Bauza, Villar, Zekhnini, Jordan Ayew. Everyone else' fate is up in the air.

Transfers

All of this is the work of previous management. I'm yet to leave my mark on this team...

Looking really good.

Player Of The Season

Albert Bauza

My man was simply ridiculous since i got him playing right wingback. Even broke few Levante's team records, such as Most Assists in a Season and Most MotM awards. Brilliant fella.

Next Season

Board has us aiming for midtable finish in La Liga. We should be able to do that. I just hope this entirely new team we are making will gel ASAP, before i get into trouble.

England

That's three in a row for The Reds. Arsenal back where it belong. Three former champions go down, with Sheff Utd, Swansea and Cardiff replacing them.

France

Sometimes i wonder should i even bother posting France in this section...

Germany

Bayern being second fiddle two years in a row does make me a bit happy.

Italy

The Old Lady gets her crown back with former champions barely getting into Europe. Shambles for Conte's Inter...

Serbia

Finally!!! Finally someone other than Tito's Twins getting on top of Serbian football pyramid. And it's Vladan Milojevic's Cukaricki who, after being sacked by Crvena zvezda, brought two Serbian giants on their knees.

Spain

It's Real's turn this time to celebrate... Cadiz goes down. Prat isn't going up, sadly, as they've got beaten by Girona, who then lost to Granada in the play off final.
