[FM20] Strikes and gutters, ups and down

Recommended Posts

Needed a break from Crusader Kings and Resident Evil, after spending unholy amount of hours assassinating relatives and killing zombies so with EURO just around the corner...

Yeah, we're back to FM, baby!!

Aside from this being another journeyman save, i have nothing else planned for it. I'm gonna go with the flow and see where the currents take me. Top 5 nations + Serbia included and even that is stretching it a bit as my potato PC is gonna struggle.

This journey starts in Andalusia. After being rejected by whole lotta clubs, we finally got one in the bag...

But not the main one. Nope.

I'm taking over their B team, currently competing in Spanish Third Tier or mouthfully named Segunda Division B Grupo IV.

I did managed a B side before. It was Valencia's B team, Valencia Mestalla.

I have no say in which players i get to use. Whatever leftovers main team manager give us, we'll have to do with. I can sign players, though i have no say later on, whether they'll remain with us, go on loan or get sold.

Here's what we have available at the time.

Most of them are duds but we have some gems in there...

baa2dc4334aee12fabfa9a7d94ac8092.jpg

Without doubt, the best we have. Terrific player but not deemed worthy of first team. Transfer listed and ready to go but i'll gladly use him as long as humanly possible.

Great prospect but unavailable for three months due to injury.

b7650dc7429f5dbc5174214f776a24cb.png

Not without faults but i like him. Either footed, decent technique, quick enough...

Coaches rates him and, yes, he seems decent enough.

Currently siting in relegation zone but there's a lot of games to be played. Haven't looked through other teams thoroughly but judging from my past experiences in spanish lower leagues, we should survive rather comfortable.

After all, that's our main objective. Survive and develop (and buy) talented players for A team.

It's a novelty. And i'm looking forward to seeing how it goes...

October 13th, Cadiz debut and infuriating loss against Linense; they overturned our lead in the last 10 minutes, scoring from the penalty spot in 81st and finishing us off five minutes later. I gotta tell you, that's a lousy way to celebrate birthday...

Losing against relegation contender only to beat league leaders and promotion chasing side following that loss?? Yup, that seems like something my teams like to do.

One difference though, we signed a player after that unlucky birthday loss.

Huge, huge upgrade in the heart of our midfield. Jumped straight into starting lineup. Played really well, all things considering.

Dammit, stop complaining. Haven't lost a game in November, set new team record and here i am, bickering. That's one bad habit i have to get rid of. It's football, we can't win every single game...

Still, can't complain (though i just love to), six points ahead of first endangered team with a transfer window to look forward to...

Nearly perfect month saw us climb another step on Segunda B table. Midfield trio made of Cavagnera, More and recovered Sergio Gonzalez has us controlling games more than we ever did before and it shows. We're becoming a dominant force.

Now if we only could stop throwing 2-0 leads, i'd be perfectly, completely happy (though i'm the one to blame in this case, having subbed off our most important players on HT).

Another decent period and we're flying up the table, getting really, really close to the play off spots. Genuinely haven't been paying attention to that as i was mostly comparing our points to those on lower half of the table.

Not wasting any thoughts on that though, as we can't get up with Cadiz, the main one, still in Segunda. And with our squad depth, we will have it tough in grueling PO system in Spain.

OK, i did thought about it. A bit.

Considering how it started, we're fortunate to come out of April with this much points. First Cadiz decided to call up Sergio Gonzalez to first team, breaking up my fantastic trio, just as they were getting to know each other. Because reasons, as he haven't played a minute for them in a whole month.

Then our starting striker suffered a season-ending injury. As we have no real backup, Khaloua was forced up front with Nieto getting his spot on the left as Luismi Quezada, naturally attacking left wingback, got some playtime at the right wing.

And somehow, that worked so we're currently up all the way to 5th, with a real chance of making the play offs.

Two games to go.

Triumphant ending of the season as we sadly stayed out of play off places. Wasn't our day when we faced Merida in decisive clash.

Still, can't complain. Really productive first season in spanish third tier.

Cádiz C.F. B  //  Season Review

2019/20

Segunda División B Grupo IV

Fixtures

September-December :: January-May

This club was first to offer a helping hand to unemployed manager in need and it turned out to be a match made in heaven. Cadiz B has been plucked from the cold embrace of relegation zone and nearly given play off place in return.

Overly dramatic bit over.

I'm pretty happy how this season turned out to be. Escaped relegation, found safe haven in the middle. I'd be more than pleased with a répété, as i hopefully build up my reputation and get others clubs to notice me.

Squad

25295024d0964a1d647378b25b87a603.png

One of my grievances with managing a B side is that i have minimal influence on squad building and which players i'll use. I'm forced to use whatever main team manager give me and have to pray he'll not pull an important player in the middle of the season as he did with Sergio Gonzalez. I can't negotiate contracts. I can sign players but it's really hard to find decent one for peanuts i'm allowed to give for wages. Not sure about loans. I should be able to loan players in. Haven't tried that during January window.

Transfers

Nothing new to see here...

Finances

This is for entire club. Unless i'm mistaken...

Player Of The Season

Hicham Khaloua

No competition here. Hicham was utterly brilliant. I daren't think about how we'll cope should he leave us.

Next Season

No idea what the hell should i expect. We'll see what the board will demand of me and more importantly, what players will i have available. Though i'd sign right now one midtable finish. Gotta build my reputation up.

Had this happened in RL, there would be a gang war going on Belgrade streets right now.

We'll follow that one with great interest...

Cádiz C.F. B  //  Preseason

Finally, transfer window has closed. Before we get into specifics, i gotta say something.

This is the bloody last time i'm managing B side.

Once my contract with Cadiz end, i'm out. If any club approaches me before that, i'm out.

It's so, so frustrating. You can't sign anyone. No one want to come here on loan. And i'd be fine with that. Played long save before this one without signing a single soul for decades.

What really irks me... I had a feeling Cadiz' manager is just ****ing with me. Once season was reset, he picked few players from my team, transferred them to himself and i was fine with it. Chose a bunch of new ones from returning loanees, made pretty decent core of 22 players (max for this division), arranged few friendlies and waited for them to test new guys. Once they began, he (main manager) started picking up my random players, moving them to first team and loaning them out to league rivals of mine, bypassing the fact that i was responsible for transfers of players from Cadiz B. Then he picked up both of my goalies, starting CD and few other players, registered them for first team, rendering them useless for me (you can't get players registered for "higher" club on the pitch). At that point, i just said "**** it", brought my assistant to get us through the friendlies and waited for transfer window to end so i can assess what we'll have to deal with, what will be left for us.

And surprise, surprise, this asshole gave me back all my players he took, every single one. Even Khaloua is back, though injured for a few weeks.

You can't plan for anything. That's what really pissed me off. He could've left all of these players in my side, let me get us through proper preseason. But no...  He had to be an asshole.

Squad

dc5317ddaef16cc1f87851976d97ea48.png

6d3813ebb7b1b20169e97bb78efb55ea.png

When we're at full strength, we've got proper squad. Superior squad. Capable of winning the league.

But i have a feeling, us at 100%, that isn't gonna happen that often.

Will do proper presentation of our best XI in separate post.

Transfers

And we're brought down to ground... Combination of four unhappy starters (contract issues, something i have no control over), our best goalkeeper out injured and both our starting fullback spending half the month on international duty and, yeah, we're a mess. Hopefully that victory over Cacereno will bring something of a positive momentum going forward.

Fought our way through to the top of the pile, where we are on the merit of better goal difference but we'll take it. Exciting season, not gonna lie. Stupidly dropped points against Granada, as we had the lead on two occasions but our lack of concentration and my thinkering was our undoing. Just one point against the worst team in the league. Shame!!

Board offered me new contract. Twice, actually. Walked out on both of their offers. While i'm getting softer on my stance, i won't budge from it. Already applied on two jobs but their respective boards wanted to give their caretakers chance to prove themselves. I don't mind waiting, i started to really like this team, some of the players but...

I'm leaving.

Our unbeaten run continues as we finished this calendar year with an underwhelming performance against San Fernando. Almeria in the lead, with us breathing down their necks. They might be the best team in this group, hell, maybe even this entire division but we won't go quietly into the night!!!

Aside from the obvious dropped points (another 2-nill lead went down the drain in the last 10 minutes) against Recreativo, i can't see how we could've done better. Almeria ran away with the title so best we can hope for is getting into play offs.

Gotta end my reign here on a high...

Lovely end to this year's campaign. Part of it, play offs remain. Even our backups did a decent job against Ejido, might've even won that one had they kept their composure in the final third.

Had to wait a whole week for Almeria, Jaen and two others to finish their games. Not sure why they scheduled it that way but oh well...

Still waiting for our PO opponent...

Lady Luck wasn't on our side in this one... Gimnastic scored from IFK and perfectly executed counter while we missed... Well, pretty much everything.

It's a bloody shame but i guess things came full circle: Started my journey in Cadiz with a loss, ended it with one too.

Segunda División B Grupo IV (3rd place)

Fixtures

August-December :: January-May

Overall, i'm pleased how this season went. For a good part of the year, we were up there. Maybe we could've won the damn thing, if only Almeria hasn't turned on bloody God Mode. We haven't regressed, finished higher than we did last season and that's good enough for me.

I haven't chose them but they did their best for me. They played well even when they were unhappy, was is contract issues, broken promises about first team football or blocked transfer, it didn't matter. No one ever downed their tools and i appreciated that. Should the opportunity presents itself in the future, i'd love to be reunited with few of them.

Transfers

My board was unusually calm during winter, only one player was sold. They did sent me back even better replacement so i won't complain that much.

Player Of The Season

Javi Duarte

Took over Sergio Gonzalez' duties when he was brought up to the first team. Even when Sergio returned, Javi kept his place. He did pretty much everything.

Last time, i forgot to add Champions League winners.

Good news for Liverpool fans.

Klopp has made it three-in-a-row. Brilliant!!

Meanwhile, Italians are dominating Europa League.

Few more days has passed because i waited for number of days spent in Cadiz to be just right and then it happened...

Board tried to get me to stay but i already set my mind on leaving. It was a nice gesture though.

Why i waited couple more days before putting up my letter of resignation?

Because i am such a child. And one lucky, coincidental number wasn't enough.

A.E. Prat

Couple of failed applications later, i've landed on my feet. In Catalonia. Had a chance to go home, to one club in Serbian Second Tier but considering i've spent way too much time in Serbia during my previous game, staying in Spain seemed like a no brainer.

Don't know anything about this team. Quick Google search told me they've spent most of their existence in lower leagues, never getting past 3rd tier. Their stadium is small, with capacity of 1000 (400 seated) places. They've won their Tercera Division group twice and have one other trophy from league(s) below.

Squad

Squad made of youth players and regens. Really, not a good sign. And looking through them... Oh boy, we're gonna have a lot of work to do...

Andrés is one of our non-regen players. And he's decent enough, i guess. We won't actively look for his replacement, there's a lot of other areas in this team that we need to address first.

Javier is our finest RB. Not great, not terrible, will have to do for now.

We're gonna go on a hunt for proper (or at least usable) central defenders and left backs. What we currently have at club is horrendous.

Just for reference, this is our best CD.

Victor is one other player i'm gonna try to keep here. He's on a non-contract right now, there's a lot of clubs interested in him but we gotta do everything in our power to keep him here.

And that's about it. Those are the players i would like to keep. Rest of them aren't worth mentioning.

Now, how much money is available to form a team capable of surviving this tier?

Hmmm, this isn't that bad. I can work with this.

Also, there's a coaching team waiting to be hired. All workload in this club is currently on myself and assistant manager. We have no one else.

This is gonna be fun summer...

A.E. Prat  //  Preseason

Well, league is about to start so it's the right time for one of these. We scrubbed together a team and we're ready to face the challenges of Spanish 3rd Division. Neither of those two statements are exactly true.

Prat is in that quite weird place, having the money to buy four or five players that would guarantee us top half finish while having such low reputation no one want to come.

So we dealt with freebies and while i'm not entirely satisfied with it, we've assembled something that looks like capable starting XI.

Most of them goes straight into starting eleven and i'll show them to you in a separate post.

Far from perfect. Work in progress but it's way, way better than it was when i came here.

We can only hope it'll be enough to survive this season...

Friendlies

Those were already setup when i got here. Really liked our performance against Valencia. That team was freaking brutal and we had them on ropes til final 10 minutes.

I love the team name :D

(if you didn't know, in the UK 'prat' is a bit of an insult along the lines of 'idiot/moron')
