[FM21] An EXTREMEnya Challenge. Youth Only. In Andorra. Well, It Sounds Like A Good Idea. Maybe.

So I love youth only challenges.  I love managing in Andorra.  So I holidayed for a season and have taken over at Unió Esportiva Extremenya, a newly promoted side in the Andorran second tier.

I won't bother with the usual statfest I do as I just want to play.

This is an especially hard challenge due to the fact the club have no youth academy.  So I will have to build one and wholly rely on the players already at the club when I arrived.

Season 2021/22

Unió Esportiva Extremenya

Season Summary

A season of over achievement as we surprisingly won the league title and secured promotion to the top tier.  The fact we won the league by a huge fifteen points was remarkable.

Season Details

First Stage League Table - A fairly comfortable campaign, we won the league in this phase by ten points.

First Stage League Fixtures - Unbeaten at the winter break, we were cruising.  Poor form post Christmas nearly derailed our season, though we recovered somewhat and finished on top, guaranteeing first place with two games remaining.

Promotion Stage League Table - With a ten point lead going into the Promotion Stage, we were always heavy favourites to win the league title and so it proved as we were comfortably the best side.

Promotion Stage League Fixtures - We won four of our five games as we continued our dominance.

Copa Constitució - We did not enter.

Pre Season Friendlies - A solid pre season campaign, with just two defeats in our ten matches.

Squad - The players themselves are decent enough, though we have no depth whatsoever.

Squad Dynamics - As good as I would expect.

Transfers In - None.

Transfers Out - None.

Youth Candidates - None.  Due to having no academy and with the board refusing to set one up, no new players came through this season.

Finances - We are in the black but only just as we are losing money every month.

Key Players

Elie Baud - The best player at the club.  He was devastating on the right wing.

António Silva - Despite playing in central midfield, he scored an impressive 12 goals in 22 appearances.

Samuel Martínez - Central defender who was a rock for most of the season.

Daniel Carmona - Midfield partner of António Silva, they linked up beautifully.

Ismael Rodríguez - Converted into a striker, a return of 13 goals in 23 games was decent enough.

Next Season

I would be happy with survival.

Season Summary

After starting the season really well, injuries and suspensions caught up and we slipped to third place.  We did qualify for Europe though.

Season Details

League Table - Overall a great first season in the top flight, though we were in a title race for most of the season.

League Fixtures 1 & 2 - After being top of the league table with just eight league games remaining, we imploded and dropped to third.

Copa Constitució - We made it through to the semi final before losing on penalties to C. E. Carroi.

Pre Season Friendlies - With ten wins from twelve and no defeats, we had an exceptional pre season.

Squad - We still have exactly same squad as last season.  We really need to be allowed to set up an academy.

Squad Dynamics - Exceptional.

Transfers In - None.

Transfers Out - None.

Youth Candidates - As I am still not allowed to set up an academy, there are still no youth players coming through.

Finances - We are in the black, though only just.

Key Players

Elie Baud - The Frenchman is the best player at the club by some distance.

António Silva -The goal scoring midfielder had another good season.

Daniel Carmona - Antíónio Silva's central midfield partner and one of our best performers.

Ismael Rodríguez - The converted striker missed quite a few games through injury.

Carlos Cuenca - Our goalkeeper earned plenty of points on his own.

Next Season

Finishing in the top four is the goal.  I do feel we overachieved this season.

Season Summary

Another decent season though again, we finished the season so poorly when in a strong position.

Season Details

Europa Conference League - We went out in the first qualifying round, to Hungarians Budapest Honvéd, though we gave a good account of ourselves.

League Table - Another third place finish is good enough as we once again qualify for Europe.

League Fixtures 1 & 2 - An excellent first half of the season was once again followed by a very poor finish.

Copa Constitució - Very disappointing as we went out at the first time of asking, losing at home to second tier side Inter d'Escaldes in the eighth final.

Pre Season Friendlies - Two losses this year in our twelve games.

Squad - We lack the same depth that we did last season.

Squad Dynamics - Very good, as usual.

Transfers In - None.

Transfers Out - None.

Youth Candidates - None.  We are still being denied a youth academy.

Finances - We made a healthy profit this year though the board are still not allowing a youth academy to be set up.

Key Players

Elie Baud - It is vital we keep hold of the Frenchman.  He is our best player by a country mile.

António Silva - Not as prolific as in previous seasons, though still a good year.

Daniel Carmona - The central midfielder played ok, though is capable of so much more.

Ismael Rodríguez - The best goal scoring season yet from the striker.

Carlos Cuenca - Another consistent campaign from the goalkeeper.

Next Season

Another third place finish would be ideal.

Season Summary

An excellent season that went right to the wire.  Needing a win in the last game, we only managed a goalless draw to finish runners up for the first time.

Season Details

Europa Conference League - We defeated Estonian outfit Flora Tallinn in the first qualifying round before very narrowly losing to Serbian side Rad Beograd in the next round.

League Table - Our highest ever finish of second, so I should be pleased.

League Fixtures 1 & 2 - Consistency was the key, though a win on the final day would of secured the title.

Copa Constitució - Very disappointing as we once again went out at the eighth final stage, losing to Athlètic Club d'Escaldes, from the division below.

Pre Season Friendlies - Another twelve game pre season campaign and again, we only lost twice which was pleasing.

Squad - We finally have some depth.  Now to develop these youngsters.

Squad Dynamics - Excellent as always.

Transfers In - None.

Transfers Out - None.

Youth Candidates - Our first ever intake as I was allowed to develop an academy from scratch.  A decent group of players, with central midfielder Paco Berenguer YP25A1 being good enough to go straight into the starting eleven.

Finances - The European monies have enabled the club to remain in the black.

Key Players

Elie Baud - Our best player had his best top flight season yet for us.

António Silva - A good season though was overshadowed by Carmona.

Daniel Carmona - Playing from central midfield, he hit double figures for both goals and assists.

Ismael Rodríguez - The striker has had a rather prolific season.

Samuel Martínez - It was a campaign where the central defender returned to form.

Next Season

Another title challenge is the aim.

Season Summary

A very disappointing season where our inconsistent performances resulted in no title challenge this year.

Season Details

Europa Conference League - We once again made it through to the second qualifying round though this time we were hammered by Danish side Brondby, 8-2 on aggregate.

League Table - A third place finish represents a step back from last season.

League Fixtures 1 & 2 - An eight game winless run from November through to February ended any hopes we had of a title challenge.

Copa Constitució - We reached our first ever cup final where we played league runners up F. C. Santa Coloma.  The match went to penalties but it wasn't to be as we lost four three after a one all draw.

Pre Season Friendlies - With twelve wins and just the one defeat, it is safe to say pre season went well.

Squad - With such a good intake, our depth has improved considerably.

Squad Dynamics - Exceptional.

Transfers In - None.

Transfers Out - None.

Youth Candidates - A fantastic intake with at least six players who will go straight into the first team squad.  Right winger José Ferreira YP26D20 looking like a sensational prospect.

Finances - The European monies have enabled our bank balance to grow.

Key Players

Elie Baud - Another great season from our best player.

António Silva - An excellent goalscoring season from central midfield.

Daniel Carmona - A good enough season as the midfield partner of António Silva.

Ismael Rodríguez - Another solid season from the forward though he is now under real pressure to retain his place in the starting eleven.

Samuel Martínez - The centre back was found wanting at times this season.

Next Season

A title challenge would be great.

Season Summary

We finished runners up in both the league and cup.  Very disappointing as we need to start winning some silverware.

Season Details

Europa Conference League - For the third year running we reached the second qualifying round though this time it was Cypriot outfit Apollon Limassol who beat us convincingly.

League Table - U. E. Santa Coloma dominated the league from start to finish.

League Fixtures 1 & 2 - Poor form in the middle of the season prevented any title challenge materialising.

Copa Constitució - For the second year running we reached the final and again, it went to extra time.  Just like last year it also went to penalties and in a mirror image we lost again.

Pre Season Friendlies - In a repeat of last season we won twelve and lost one of our thirteen pre season matches.

Squad - The depth is even better as our youth academy starts to blossom.  We only have one original player left in the squad.

Squad Dynamics - It is still rather lovely isn't it?

Transfers In - None.

Transfers Out - None.

Youth Candidates - The best intake to date with plenty of good players.  The pick of them looks like central midfielder Tiago Mendes YP27A33.

Finances - Whilst we are in the black and the balance looks healthy, due to the high costs of our academy, we are projected to start losing money.

Key Players

Samuel Martínez - The last remaining original player left in the squad.  The centre back's days are surely numbered.

Julio César Villalonga YP27I41 - Having just arrived at the club in the recent youth intake, he has hit the ground running, scoring xx goals in xx appearances.

Tiago Mendes YP27A33 - The star of the recent intake, the central midfielder will surely become an international sooner rather than later.

Hugo Freitas YP27J42 - He may be new to the club, though he is so much better than the other goalkeepers he is an automatic starter.

Mirko Giudici YP27K43 - Central defender who has formed a good partnership with Martínez.

Surely we can mount a title challenge?

Season Summary

Another year and another runners up in the league.  An early loss in the cup meant another season without any silverware.

Season Details

Europa Conference League - A heavy aggregate defeat by Scottish side Aberdeen saw the club knocked out at the second qualifying round for the fourth season running.

League Table - U. E. Santa Colomo were just too strong and churned out win after win.

League Fixtures 1 & 2 - We were much more consistent though we were still some way back in second place.

Copa Constitució - A shock defeat to Sant Julià eliminated the club at the quarter final stage.

Pre Season Friendlies - Another quality pre season campaign with just the one defeat.

Squad - Another good intake has enabled the depth to get even better, though we do lack some good centre backs.

Squad Dynamics - As good as it always is.

Transfers In - None.

Transfers Out - Just the two departures, as two youngsters left on loan to gain some experience.

Youth Candidates - Another exceptional intake with Spanish central midfielder Juan Montaner YP28A49 looking like a fine prospect.

Finances - We are in the black though only just as we are losing a lot of money every year due to the high costs of the youth academy.

Key Players

Julio César Villalonga YP27I41 - The striker was not as prolific as last season.

Tiago Mendes YP27A33 - The best player at the club, the seventeen year old is now a full Andorran international.

Hugo Freitas YP27J42 - The goalkeeper performed above his level numerous times.

Mirko Giudici YP27K43 - One of the best defenders at the club.

Rúben Salgueiro YP27H40 - A fine season from the midfielder.

Season Summary

A season of triumph as, after six barren years, we swept the board and won all three domestic trophies on offer.  We also went further in Europe than ever before.

Season Details

Europa Conference League - We had our best campaign to date as we made it through to the third qualifying round for the first time before losing to Greek side Aris Salonika.

League Table - We finally secured the title, with top spot being assured with one game remaining.

League Fixtures 1 & 2 - We were top for the entire season, though a sticky spell in February nearly proved costly.

Copa Constitució - After the early loss last season, it was great to reach our third final in four years.  We dominated the game and ran out deserved winners by three goals to one against Sant Julià.

Supercopa Andorrana - Due to U. E. Santa Coloma achieving the domestic double, we played in the traditional pre season curtain raiser and won convincingly, by two goals to nil. to secure our first domestic cup competition.

Pre Season Friendlies - Due to a successful European campaign, we only had time for three fixtures and we won all three.

Squad - An exceptional squad for Andorra.  We now need to build to start progressing in Europe.

Squad Dynamics - Exceptional as always.

Transfers In - None.

Transfers Out - Two of the the players who were here when I arrived left on free transfers.  In addition, I allowed two youngsters to leave to gain some experience.

Youth Candidates - Another good intake, though we lacked the depth of previous years.  That said, Spanish goalkeeper Abel YP29A65 is arguably the best player to have come through the academy in years.

Finances - We are in the red and are continuing to lose money.  We really need a decent run in the Champions League qualifiers.

Key Players

Julio César Villalonga YP27I41 - Andorran striker who was much more prolific than last season.

Tiago Mendes YP27A33 - The central midfielder has just switched allegiances from Andorra to Portugal.  Refuses to sign a new deal so may have to be sold.

Rúben Salgueiro YP27H40 - Holding midfielder who had another solid campaign.

Abel YP29A65 - The goalkeeper is already the best player at the club, despite having just graduated from the academy.

Nélson Pinto YP28F54 - In his first full season in the first team, the left winger really rose to the occasion.

Next Season

Defend the title is the obvious goal.  On top of this, making some progress in the Champions League would be great.

Season Summary

A domestic double, for the second year running, together with an extraordinary run in Europe represents the best season in the history of the club.

Season Details

Champions League - We played out of our skin in the first qualifying round before narrowly losing to Cypriot side APOEL Nicosia by an aggregate score of three goals to two.

Europa Conference League - We dropped into the second qualifying round after our loss in the Champions League and were magnificent.  We actually made the group stage, where we finished bottom after getting outclassed.

League Table - We won the league comfortably.  We are now the best side in Andorra by some distance.

League Fixtures 1 & 2 - A couple of shock defeats though we never really struggled.

Copa Constitució - Another season and another final, this time against perennial rivals U. E. Santa Coloma.  We were far too good in the final and duly won our second successive domestic double.

Supercopa Andorrana - We lost the pre season curtain raiser to our rivals, U.E. Santa Coloma.

Pre Season Friendlies - An unbeaten pre season though we did only play six games due to our European success.

Squad - Our depth is easily the best in the country.

Squad Dynamics - Excellent as it always is.

Transfers In - None.

Transfers Out - Thirteen youngsters departed on loan and two left on free transfers.

Youth Candidates - Central midfielder Paco Sepulcre YP30A81 is the pick of an excellent group of players.

Finances - Thanks to our European adventure, we have a considerable of money available to us.

Key Players

Season Summary

Another domestic double, including an unbeaten league campaign should be a quality season.  But heartache in Europe did put a dampener on things.

Season Details

Champions League - We made it through to the second qualifying round before being completely outclassed by Czech side Slavia Prague, who beat us by ten goals to one over the two legs as we dropped into the Europa League.

Europa League - Moldovans Sheriff Tiraspol shaved a very tight tie as we dropped into the Europa Conference League.

Europa Conference League - We had an absolute shocker.  After winning the away leg at Georgian outfit Dila Gori by two goals, we imploded at home, losing four one for an aggregate defeat of four goals to three.  So close to the group stage again.

League Table - We are now so far ahead of everyone else, we went the entire league season unbeaten.

League Fixtures 1 & 2 - We were very consistent and didn't lose a single game.

Copa Constitució - We reached the final again and dominated Sant Julià to complete another domestic double.

Supercopa Andorrana - Another disappointment as rivals U. E. Santa Coloma narrowly defeated us to retain the pre season curtain raiser.

Pre Season Friendlies - Due to our European commitments, we only had time for three games, all of which we won and we kept three clean sheets.

Squad - Our depth is now far too good for this division.  It all rests on European football now.

Squad Dynamics - As lovely as it always is.

Transfers In - None

Transfers Out 1 & 2 - I sold a few fringe players and quite a few youngsters left on loan.

Youth Candidates - Another great intake with Andorran left back Abel González YP31C99 going straight into the starting eleven.

Finances - We still have a very healthy bank balance.

Key Players

Abel YP29A65 - The teenage goalkeeper has played his final game for us as he leaves for Spanish giants Atlético Madrid.

Nélson Pinto YP28F54 - Another exceptional campaign from the left winger.

Juan Montaner YP28A49 - The central midfielder had a sensational season though is refusing to sign a new deal, so he has one more year at the club.

José Góis YP39D68 - Playing on the right wing, the teenager had a good first season in the first team.  So good in fact, he is now a full Andorran international.

Ricardo Rocha YP30C83 - Despite just turning seventeen, the youngster is already one of the best defenders at the club.

Next Season

As I fully expect a domestic repeat, progress in Europe will be the true test.
