2029/30 Season - October

What a month! Cup games galore with only a single league game, that ends 1-1 against current league leaders Guimaraes.

By far the hardest one to take was the 5-1 hammering by Man U, the game itself was really even, even possession, even chances but Man U were clinical, we were not!

Then we come to the Portuguese Cup game, I went full strength and my word we absolutely smashed them, 15-0, a club record win and 6 goals for new signing Baiardino!

What an odd month. 2 wins in the league keeps us near the top with games in hand. Once again though we got absolutely smashed by Man U, that's 5-1 and 4-0 in the group stage! How on earth am I supposed to compete?! Then we come to the Portuguese Cup, what a disaster! I prioritised the Shakhtar game and played the reserves, well they fail miserably as we lost to fellow Liga NOS side Varzim.

That win over Shakhtar means we have qualified for the knockouts with a game to spare!

2029/30 Season - December

Now that's much better! 6 league games, 16 points!

That draw in the final game means Porto will be top going into the New Year. It looks like a 2-horse race this season.

In the Champions League we ended 2nd in the group and will face my old club Stuttgart, who still have Helge Koch in the last 16!

In the Allianz Cup we ended top of our group and will face Benfica in the Semi finals

2029/30 Season - January

I have to admit this has been a tough month transfer wise. So many bids have come in for players. The ones I wanted to sell no one wanted, the ones I wanted to keep asked to go!

You can ignore the middle three but losing CM Almeida and CB Lamboley is an absolute killer. 2 of my key men, 2 stalwarts of this side have gone. But I've made nearly £50m from the both of them so great you say, that's until you realise the board have given me 30% of that to spend! So let's see who has come in to replace them!

Luis Centurion - Central Midfielder - £10m from Boca

A player I'd looked at previously but couldn't afford. My replacement for Almeida and he is just as good for half the price!

Tuna Mert - Striker - £21m from Bayer Leverkusen

This one is a bit of a risk, I do have to thank my board though, I didn't have the funds to do the deal but I begged the board to sort it and they did. He won the NexGen World Young Player of the Year in 2027 and has been on my radar since. He needs some work but I really feel he can do a job.

Mamdu Pereira - Central Defender - Season loan from Inter Milan

The best player I could get, a short term replacement for Lamboley. I had no money left to spend so a loan was all I could do!

So a tough transfer window but results wise it's gone pretty well.

We started with a couple of draws but these were away to Benfica and Sporting. Since then we've won our next 3 league games.

So we sit in 2nd, 2 behind Porto and 2 ahead of Sporting. This should be an interesting race to the finish.

The big down point of this month was the Allianz Cup defeat to Porto. The semi final was sensational, a 6-1 win over Benfica but the final was awful. We played terribly to lose to an early penalty.

2029/30 Season  - February

I'm not sure what to make of February. We beat Sporting 5-1, fantastic! Other than that and an opening 3-0 win it's been a struggle.

We really needed to beat Porto to catch them up in the league but only managed a 1-1 draw courtesy of a 93rd minute Troy Parrott goal and also lost the first leg of the Champions league last 16 tie to my old club Stuttgart 2-1 at home so it looks like we will be going out of that.

This season has been hard. We're out of both cups, pretty much out of the Champions league and playing catch up in the league as well!

We're 3 behind them with a game in-hand but as the places are settled on head to head we will need to be ahead of them on points as they have won and drawn against us this season.

2029/30 Season - Champions League Last 16 v Stuttgart

Erm, I'm not sure what to say about this. We faced my old club and were massive underdogs. I was hoping Helge Koch would have left by now but he hasn't and to say he hammered us would be a massive understatement.

He scored 1 in the 1st leg and then did that in the 2nd! This is going to take a very very VERY long time to have any chance of winning the Champions league!!!

So let's ignore the Stuttgart game shall we? What a month! 4 league games, 4 wins and 17 goals along the way! Sensational!

Porto have slipped up and now we are 2 clear with 5 games to play! COME ON!

League title would be a great return this season, also I think that Jonathan and Bruno Ramos could both turn out to be very handy players!

2029/30 Season - April

Another 3 wins! That makes 8 in a row and keeps us top of the table with 2 games to go. It's been a great month, no goals conceded and 5 goals in 3 games for Striker Baiardino who looks like he will end as the Liga NOS top scorer this season.

It's in our hands but we can't afford a slip up.

Porto have Guimaraes (A) and Maritimo (H), we have Varzim (A), Boavista (H). This is going to be tense!

2029/30 Season - May/End of Season Review

2 wins and we have done it! Porto couldn't catch us and for the 3rd time in a row we are Liga NOS Champions!!!

A great season overall with only 1 defeat and equalling our points total from 2 seasons ago.

So the league has been great but overall I'm frustrated, we fell short in both domestic cup comps and for the 3rd time in a row went out in the last 16. I really don't know how we are going to progress when the bigger clubs are just so much better than us! We need some serious luck, either that or the board will suddenly start chucking money at us (they aren't!).

Star Men

Fans Player of the Season once again goes to Central Defender Alexandre Soares, another brilliant season for the lad but how much longer can we hang onto him?!

Top goalscorer is Striker and new signing Jonantan Baiardino, a great first season at the club with 22 league goals and 33 goals overall

Most assists goes to Right Winger Federico Lavega, 15 assists and 11 goals in 35 starts, not bad at all!

The final player I want to speak about wasn't even at the club this season! Central Defender Ruan Carlos came through the 2027 Youth Intake and this season has been on loan at St. Pauli, to say it's gone well would be an understatement, he has been sensational and has helped them to Bundesliga-2 title glory. He WILL be in the first team next season.

So another good season, our 3rd straight league title but we need to start progressing in the Champions League, how we do that is another story. The board have given me £25m to spend and around £175k per week extra in the wage budget so we do have money to spend. First thing I have to do is get rid of some of the first teamers. There are quite a few who just aren't good enough now that need to leave. This should then give me more money to spend and free up more wages. My hope is we can ship out around 7 or 8 players this gives me space to improve the squad and then bring in some of the youth players who have performed well on loan this season.

Then I can go out and throw all my money at a few positions. I'd like a new LW, LB and back-up Striker. Other than that it will depend on who leaves, quite a lot of my key men are being touted for big money moves.

Here's hoping for an exciting Summer!

2030/31 Season - Pre-Season Transfers

Here we go, another season is here and it's been a busy Summer transfer window!

Let's first discuss the outs and oh my word there was one biggie!

We say goodbye to Troy Parrott and Galeno who have been here since the start but fell out of favour, there are also departures for first teamers Mitchell (AM), Thomas (CM) and Valido (GK), all 3 asked to leave and really weren't good enough. Now I come to the one big sale and that AM Caputo. Nantes came in with a £52m bid, I asked for £90m and they said yes! A massive loss to my side but I could not turn £90m down.

Now let's take a look at the in's

Sabahattin Tekin - Striker - £7m from Bayer Leverkusen

Tekin comes in as my 3rd choice Striker replacing Parrott. A decent looking signing and is more than happy to sit on the sidelines.

Daniel Andrade - Left Winger - £15m from CF America

I wanted a new LW after losing Parisi last season, this lad has been on my radar for a while now and I eventually did a cracking deal. He is only 18 and already looks sensational

Daniel Abreu - Goalkeeper - £30m from Inter Milan

The first of two big deals this Summer. I eventually get myself an amazing, young Portuguese goalie. A massive fee but I feel he is worth every penny

Jasmin Smajic - Left Back - £7m from Partizan

This one was so hard to get through, he had a £7m release clause and as you can that fee is an absolute steal. The issue was he wanted so much money, especially as I have Chrys as my number one LB. It now looks like Chrys will leave at some point (he has a £22.5m release clause and Man City have unsettled him) so he comes in as his replacement. I am so excited for this lad!

Moritz Palkovich - Attacking Midfield - £42.5m from Ajax

A club record fee for a lad who, for 20, looks stunning. The replacement for Caputo, he is actually better attributes wise, for half the price!

With a month of the window still to go there could be more business done but I will only be signing players if we lose anyone. What a brilliant Summer!

2030/31 Season - August

First month of the season down but before I go through the results there has been some more transfer movement.

Two more out's to speak of, I'd mentioned Chrys may well be leaving, Man C activated his release clause of £22.5m, a nice profit though seeing as I got for nothing! Obsipo also leaves, he fell out of favour at CB so I let him leave.

There's also one in..

Central Midfielder Toni joins from Atletico Madrid for £1.3m, I have been looking at this lad for a while and eventually decided to take the plunge and activate his release clause. He won't be starting but will be in and around the first team squad.

Now to the results.

A great start in the league with 3 wins out of 3 but unfortunately we slipped up in the Supertaca.

It was a really poor start to the season. Overall though I have to be happy with the start in the league

Finally is the Champions League draw.

Not bad at all, Chelsea will obviously be the toughie and Lyon will also be a hard game but I have faith we can get one of the two qualification spots for the knockouts.

2030/31 Season - September

A solid month with 3 wins out of 4 in the league. The only defeat was 1-0 away to Chelsea in the CL. We played really well and lost to a penalty.

It's looking good so far, now it's time to try and push on in the Champions League after an opening day defeat.

2030/31 Season - October

1 month, 5 game played in 4 different competition but we end with a 100% record! Really pleasing.

2nd place looking on in the Champions League, we have to play Chelsea at home and Lyon away yet so plenty of time for things to go wrong!

That solitary win keeps us top, 5 clear of Benfica even though they have a game in-hand.

2030/31 Season - November

It just gets better and better!

3 wins in the league keeps us 4 clear at the top with a game in-hand.

In the Champions League we manage a draw away to Lyon and then a stunning win at home to Chelsea to seal qualification with a game to spare!

2030/31 Season - December

Another brilliant month! Only one slip-up but overall it's been great. 5 league games, 4 wins, 13 points and no goals conceded!

7 clear of Porto and 11 clear of Sporting even though they have 2 games in-hand. Fantastic so far!!

In the Champions League the win over Dinamo alongside Chelsea drawing with Lyon means we top the group because of our better head-to-head with Chelsea!

So you'd think as group winners we would get a decent draw in the Last 16.....erm nope, we face PSG!

We're also progressing well in the domestic cups, in the Allianz Cup we face Porto in the semi final and in the Portuguese Cup we face P. Ferreira in the Last 16.

What a brilliant first half of the season, let's hope this good run continues, although I'm not confident with the Champions League!!!

2030/31 Season - January

Wow this has been one tough Winter window, so many bids, so many annoyed players. At the start of the month I had 4 first-team CBs, at one point all 4 of them had bids in for them from Europe's elite. So this has been a VERY busy window. Even though only 3 people have left I fully expect a lot more to kick off moving forwards and they will leave in the Summer, therefore I've signed a new more players than who have left!

Loads of money!!! I didn't mind Henderson going, to be honest he wasn't that good, losing Matic (CM) and Orlando (CB) however is a huge blow.

So 3 out, 6 in...

Francis Aleixo - Central Defender - £3.5m from Boavista

The first of 2 CBs to come in, I like this guy, he is young and looks decent.

Pelle Ljungberg - Right Back - £3.1m from Norrkoping

The was a chance I was going to lose my 1st choice RB Antonelli so I brought this guy in to replace him, in the end he turned down a £35m move to Wolves. A good back-up to have though!

Miguel Goncalves - Left Back/Left Wing - £7.5m from Sevilla

Another young Portuguese player joins, a big fee but he looks pretty good, needs some work though.

Armando Gato - Attacking Midfield - £2.4m from Juventus

I'm a little short of AMs, this lad popped up for quite a low fee and also satisfies the Portuguese HG rule.

Romano Marincic - Central Defender - £22m from Dortmund

The first of 2 big signings, this is my replacement for the outgoing Orlando, not bad for a relatively low fee for someone who looks really good.

Arthur Perrin - Central Midfield - £38m from Juventus

I lost 2 CMs so needed to bring at least 1 in, I needed someone ready for the first team and this is the guy! Top quality!

So some really good deals, £76m of players in, just under £100m of players out. A good Winter window!

Now to the results and overall it's been pretty decent.

4 league games, 3 wins and a draw is good and it keeps us top. The unfortunate one was the loss in the Taca de Liga Cup final. We lost on penalties! Gutting!

Overall though it's been a good month and we now sit top by 4 points with a game in-hand on Porto

2030/31 Season - February

An absolutely brilliant month, not only have we smashed our way into the final of the Portuguese cup by beating Belenenses 11-2 on aggregate but we've also won 4 out of 4 in the League stretching our lead at the top.

The good news is we are still in with a shout in the Champions league, a 3-2 defeat away to PSG is a good result, we were 3-0 down but 2 late goals gives us a shot going into the home leg.

The league is looking great. 9 clear of Porto with a game in-hand and 12 clear of Benfica with 2 games to spare! I've only just realised as well that we're still unbeaten! (Queue a loss now!!!)

2030/31 Season - Champions League Quarter Final v Juventus

First leg at home and it went well.

A 2-1 win but it was a shame to let in that away goal so late on. The second leg is going to be tense!

It didn't start well as Juve scored early on but right on half time we got the massively vital away goal. In the second half Juve grabbed the goal to send the tie level but with 16 minutes to go RW Lavega scored to make it 2-2 and 4-3 on aggregate, Juve couldn't break us down after that and we had done it!!

2030/31 Season - League and Portuguese Cup Update

Before the Champions League final comes about let's just tie up how the domestic season ended.

To say the league season has been a success would be an understatement! 94 points out of a possible 102! Stunning!

Now to the Portuguese Cup final, we faced Benfica and after losing in the Liga Cup final and Super Cup earlier on in the season I really wanted to win this one.

It was a really tough game, loads of chances, both goalkeepers were stunning but we managed to win the game 1-0 courtesy of a 2nd half goal from Palkovich.

So a domestic league and cup double, next up...Stuttgart in the Champions League!

2030/31 Season - Champions League Final v Stuttgart

Stuttgart at my old team but since I have left they have probably got even better. They've won the last 3 Bundesliga's and also are the reigning Champions League winners so this is going to be tough!

I'm lucky to have a fully fit squad so my Best XI can play.

The Stuttgart team has changed a lot since I left but the main man Helge Koch is still there but is being used as a Left Winger, they also still have Saka, Prieto and 2025 Intake star Paric at Right Back.

And here we go....

2 mins: What a start! Stuttgart hit us on the break and Cortinhas runs down the right, he takes on Perrin who trips him right on the edge of the box, after a VAR consultation the penalty is given!

2 mins: Who else but Helge Koch steps up but his penalty is weak and it's easily saved by Abreu! 0-0!

25 mins: Our first chance, its lovely build up down the left between Smajic and Andrade, the work is nicely into the box, Andrade eventually squares the ball to Centurion who, from 12 yards out slips the ball into the left corner of goal to give Braga the lead!!! 1-0!!

34 mins: Stuttgart are level! Saka gets free down the right, he plays the ball into the box and Arrighi smashes is past Abreu. 1-1!

40 mins: So close from Andrade, he is giving Stuttgart's Right back all sorts of issues. He runs at him, skins him but his shot is wonderfully palmed around the post by McKenzie in Stuttgart's goal.

And that's half time! Not many chances but a blinding half! 45 mins to go!

62 mins: Chance for Stuttgart, Helge Koch does brilliantly down the left and slips a gorgeous ball through to Prieto but his shot is tame and straight at Abreu. 1-1.

70 mins: So close! Lovely play down the right by Palkovich, he splits the defence and Baiardino is in but his first time shot is wonderfully tipped over the bar by McKenzie.

78 mins: Another Braga chance! We have played fantastically out of defence today, Soares finds Smajic who plays it to Andrade, he immediately slips Baiardino in but his shot is well blocked.

78 mins: The block goes out for a corner, it's swung in by Palkovich, met by Central Defender Soares who's header somehow goes into the net!! GGOOAAALLLLLL! 2-1 with 12 minutes left!!

90 mins: So close now and to be honest it's all us. We win another corner, Kitolano takes this one, it's goes low and is met by Marincic who shot hits the post and goes in!!!! THIS IS MADNESS!!!! 3-1 up, minutes away from winning the Champions League!!!

Oh my word that was stunning. After conceding an early penalty we went on and played fantastically, in the second half we didn't look like conceding and once we scored the 2nd there looked to be only one winner!

What a season, what a run in the Champions League, PSG, Juve, Chelsea and Stuttgart swept aside to win Bragas first ever Champions League!

2030/31 Season - End of Season Round-up

I really didn't expect this so quickly. 5 seasons at Braga and my time is now up. We've done what we set out to do and now I can move on to pastures new.

But let's take a quick look back at who were my key men in what turned out to be a treble winning season!

Attacking Midfield Palkovich wins the Clubs Player of the Year. A massive signing at £42.5m last season to replace Caputo but he proved to be even better. 17 goals and 13 assists in 40 apps. Sensational!

Signing of the Season goes to Goalkeeper Abreu, £45m was another huge fee but his save in the Champions League final showed you that he was worth every penny. In 53 games he only conceded 29 goals and kept 31 clean sheets. This lad is destined for the top and this season gained his first Portuguese National Team callup and cap.

It was another great season in front of goal for Striker Baiardino. 25 in 29 in the league and 32 overall in the season. This lad gets better and better!

Most assists goes to Allmers. He spent nearly all season filling in on either the left or right wing and with numerous injuries he played 41 times, he ends with 9 goals and 17 assists.

And here for your perusal is the whole Champions League winning squad.

Absolutely brilliant!

I really didn't expect this to end so early!

So Braga have won the Champions League and are no longer "Nearly Men", the second club I've managed to win the ultimate prize with and now I get to move on!

There was also a new European winner in the Europa League. Arsenal have eventually won their first European Trophy, smashing Nantes 4-0 in the final. This means they also get removed off the "Nearly Men" list but seeing as this was Nantes first European Final they now get added to the list.

So another season down and I will be looking for a new job. I have a few nations added but am open to any option off the "Nearly Men" list.

Well, since I'm a Benfica fan, I'm happy that someone won anything with Braga, they're the 4th best team in Portugal, but to be fair, only the first years are complicated, since Benfica and Porto have a lot higher wages than the other 16 teams! Congratz on the champions league!

I was surprised how quickly I overtook both Porto and Benfica in the league but we always seemed to struggle against them in the Cup. Winning the Champions League was crazy, no way were we good enough but we hit some amazing form towards the end of the season!

I have a new job and I'm off to France!

That's right I'm joining Saint-Etienne. The runners-up in the UEFA Cup in 1976.

This should be really enjoyable. The club ended 12th last season in Ligue 1 but also won the Coupe de France so are in the Europa League.

It is going be a huge task in the league, PSG are still reigning supreme but there is also Nantes who are tycoon owned now to deal with. This should take a bit longer than Braga and Stuttgart to establish ourselves and become title challengers.

This is the current first team squad and it is very thin, there is also the fact that the old manager transfer listed 5 of the first team, there is also a couple of unhappy players as well.

The base is there though and we have some quality looking players who I will talk about during my monthly updates.

There's also very little in the 2nd team and the U19's!

The season preview has us ending in 12th place.

You can see just how far ahead PSG are!

Finally let's look at the finances..

It's not great, £1.1m in the bank, projections have us ending the first season with another £500k in the bank. The board have given me £3.5m to spend and we have around £130k p/wk in spare wages. I will definitely be looking at loans and free transfers.

Now the hard work begins, there is 2 days until the French Super Cup and 17 days until the league season starts! Expect some transfer business!

2031/32 Season - Trophies de Champions

My first game in charge of Saint Etienne is the French Super Cup and we face PSG! I've literally had 2 days to pull together a side and seeing as we have no natural LBs and no natural AMs in our squad this could be fun!

It wasn't!

Haaland proving the match winner in a 2-0 loss. We actually didn't play too bad but as you can see from the average ratings not one player got above 6.5. Poor, but expected!

2031/32 Season - August

Here we go! The season has started and as expected I've brought quite a few players in. Let's take a look at them...

Markus Leibetseder - Central Defender - Free Transfer

Jassim Ali Al-Yazidi - Left Back - Season long loan from PSG

Manuel Neto - Attacking Midfield - Season long loan from Braga

Andres Avalos - Left Back - £1m from Frosinone

James Kassoure - Striker - Season long loan from Monaco

Evandro Fernandes - Central Midfield - £1.1m from Watford

Some really good signing with only just over £2m spent, the squad now looks better but will that transfer into results?

Yes it bloody did!

4 wins out of 4 to start the season and no goals conceded! Stunning but we haven't really had a majorly big test yet.

Not bad!

We've also had the Europa League draw.

It looks tough on paper but we should be challenging for 2nd place.

I have to admit this change of clubs hasn't been as fun as I hoped. 24 hours on and I'll be honest, it's boring. I've taken over a pretty rubbish team with a very thin squad, brought in some pretty standard players and we've just drawn PSG. Add to that the 4 wins from yesterday.

Winning is supposed to be fun but taking over Saint Etienne was supposed to be a bit of a challenge, this is far from it.

I'm thinking of taking a break from this save and returning in a month or so refreshed. In the mean time I will start something new and see how I go
