Apart from when Brno pushed us, we were pretty much flawless. Swiss champions FC Wil are our next opponent in the Champions League playoff.

Just loans incoming this time, and the eagle eyed among us will notice that Sven Viola is also the starting LWB for the Luxembourg National Team. But the guy I'm most excited about is Leon Lyons, an absolute animal at just 18.

The only player who really featured for the club was Di Salvatore, but he hadn't played a game in 4-5 seasons. 8 youth players who failed to impress were also released.

Injuries have crippled us, with 4 first team players out for the last 3 games of the month. I'd like to think that that's why we lost in the playoff, but it'll be interesting to see how we go in the Europa League, especially given we're playing a team we've already beaten this season.

We're faltering a little bit in the league, and then scoring in ridiculous amounts in the cup. The away draw against Brno should mean that a good result at home nets us 3rd place and a spot in the Conference League knockouts.

I decided to cash in on Andres, as he spent most of this season out injured and has fallen down the pecking order. We also lose 2 young prospects who probably wouldn't have been good enough to play for us, and we get pretty good money for them!

They sit 2 spots above Atalanta in the Serie A, and overt the Serie A season beat them 4-1 on aggregate. I know that this kind of maths doesn't work, but it definitely gives me some confidence going into the final, which gets its own post.

I honestly can't believe it. We were dominated possession and territory wise, but they never really threatened. I was a but worried when they scored that penalty, but then Bertrand scored his second of the game to put the result beyond a doubt. My first bit of European silverware in this career :D

Amazing turn to the challenge in less than 2 seasons! Question: how realistically good do you think Bertrand is? He's close to 300 goals, his rating is 85 but his estimated value is not even close to a million euros.

Good luck in the WC! With 2 out of 3 advancing from the group I'm pretty sure you will be through to the knockout stage

Thor Beernaert

Apart from any converts, this will probably be our main squad for the World Cup, except for Lisboa, whose broken leg means he will miss the rest our season and probably the international games as well.

Our poor luck with draws continue, but I think we can get something against Ghana. There are a couple of interesting teams that qualified too, like Kenya, Syria and Thailand.

this is so amazing, Luxembourg in the WC and winning the ECL!! GJ man!! Are we expecting to leave Luxembourg for a new challenge??

Thanks! I won't be leaving Luxembourg yet, I still need to raise their coefficient up towards the top 10 to get that automatic group stage spot. The way we're going I think we can get there in around 5 seasons.

Thanks! Bertrand is far too good for our league, that's for sure! I don't think he's ever been an 85 rating though, looks like the highest he's been is around 82. His estimated value is probably tied to the reputation of the league, we've received offers for him from pretty good teams, but as no other HG player has stepped up yet I can't sell him.

In terms of the World Cup, we received a terrible draw but if we get lucky against Ghana we could get out of the group.

2054 Youth Intake

3ded71db4169a5fd405763e7bc1c20dc.png

Considering I was told not to expect much from this intake, I'm pretty impressed. The only issue I have is that the top 2 in the intake aren't eligible for Luxembourg until they're 23, but they'll definitely count as homegrown. I think I'm most excited by Limbombe, he'll make a nice RPM or WB with some retraining.

Not much to write home about really. Warner de Boer definitely has his scoring boots on after his return from a torn calf.

Disappointing results in friendlies I didn't schedule. I'm just trying to convince as many players as I can that I know will feature for us at the World Cup. Here are the ones I've converted/am trying to convert. I'm really close with all of them as they're allowing me to talk to them.

I've only just convinced Frassetti to come back after he defected to France, where he made 8 U21 appearances for them. He'd already made about 25 apps for the Luxembourg NT, but for whatever reason they aren't counted. Trierweiler is the only other player to have played for Luxembourg, making 2 apps before defecting. If we can get all of these guys to join we'll have a really strong team!

2054 FIFA World Cup - Luxembourg Squad

Goalkeepers

a1c148f2c9bda1bcf394e87cbdad5c40.png

Thor will be our first choice keeper. The 12 season Schifflange veteran has nearly 60 caps since converting from Belgium 6 years ago.

828f67053ef0adb7875adccf78d80a57.png

Hilbert has been in the national team setup since he was 18 or 19, but had to wait until he was 22 before he finally made his debut. Should anything happen to Beernaert, he will step in.

c51be699e48d40c933c48b6583d89c2e.png

Almeida has the dubious honour of being 3rd keeper. He's unlikely to feature at all for the side, unless disaster strikes.

Central Defenders

1fe79492fcad300341373c527c6d2d2a.png

Frassetti comes back to Luxembourg after being capped 8 times for the French U21 side. He is by far our best defender.

b8b26ee66512614a7bacfcf19a7ddf5d.png

I'd had my eye on Albert for years, and after 17 U21 caps for Germany he's jumped ship to us. It's awesome that we have a player come from Bayern and want to play for us. He can also play at LWB if needed which is huge.

Delage is a player I'm very familiar with, and another convert by way of nationalisation.

Kevin is the first player from our academy to feature in this preview, part of our "golden generation" that saw 3 players from the 6th intake appear for Luxembourg at some point. He only features for the club in the league for home grown reasons, but he's still good enough for Luxembourg to feature as depth.

e38b192dc5a44412be76dc23f1e0799e.png

A member of Schifflange before we shipped him off to China, he's here as depth.

95851bfa1c528b0929ad16f284d5f918.png

A Schifflange academy product, he was signed for free by Dinamo Zagreb and is now bouncing around the Lithuanian leagues as a loanee.

Right Wing Backs

9ca2f12f6feea89c4ec6a81dc848c167.png

A stalwart for club and country. He has 55 caps and 173 league appearances despite being just 23.

3cf94b38aa2972b3eed30fea33c273c0.png

Although he technically can't play WB, he has the attributes and has played well when called upon.

Defensive Midfielders

Despite missing most of the season with a broken leg, Bruno has recovered in time to make the World Cup squad. He's also very versatile.

2a262171a1add35e5d8ce7525249144a.png

He's been good when needed.

Left Wingbacks

1644f59a7e71eff14e055e6b749b2d5d.png

One of the youngest players I've picked in a squad (he debuted at 17), he'll be around for a while. As long as he doesn't switch to Germany.

Central Midfielders

The first major conversion during my tenure, I finally get Nawrocki to a major international competition. He's really the one who started this big push 7 years ago. At 34 he's getting on a bit but he's still the best midfielder we have.

d9eb2660469af730677f71144a3e7e51.png

Amel defected to Germany, realised it was unrealistic, then came back to us. If he chooses to stay with us he could feature in the middle for years.

6a673de4393f82522142daa7ad5b729e.png

Jose is another recent convert, and if it wasn't for Trierweiler would probably be starting alongside Nawrocki.

Schroder is a nationalised Luxembourger and has made his fair share of appearances for the team.

Strikers

8ca004751b1796c95b7fa674d9090c27.png

The jewel in the Luxembourg crown, he has been amazing since he chose us over Germany 5 seasons ago. He's by far the best player to ever have played for Luxembourg.

2c6efe5cb21b9f0867eea12251323449.png

Schifflange goal machine Ludovic Bertrand will be the main strike partner of Fernandes, ad we know all about him.

d321d1e18d25496ea5ad7b290c7a0e6c.png

Hoffman has been a little unlucky to have been pushed out of a starting role, but he's still a great player in his own right.

382f41d3e451b03ec60fcf403fe734ec.png

Bruno is an unknown commodity. I first noticed him during my selection for the friendlies back in March, but wasn't quite good enough to make it into the squad. Two months later, he's scraped in and of he develops well could be a very good player for us. I may even see if I can bring him to Schifflange.

A remarkable display of goalscoring this season from Bertrand and de Boer, and Beckhof has a stellar debut season. He might actually get selected for Germany in the World Cup too!

I extended the loan of De Backer, and added Meier to join him in the midfield. Robert and Fraeye join our backline, and McWilliams becomes our starting LWB which will make sense once you see our outgoing players.

Sold Beernaert to give some game time to Hilbert, the free transfers were nobodies, Masson became irrelevant. But the main story here is the departure of Beckhof after only a season. Hamburg met his release clause and we make a 2.3M profit on him.
