End of Season 2 - 2021/22

Won the league with three games to spare having failed to win 7 games at the time. Three losses and four draws.

Spoiler

Knocked out of the Wessex League Cup to Bashley in what can only be described as the Joseph Brown Show. In the first half, he scored a brace for us and scored a third through an own goal to send us to 3-2 down. We came back to draw 3-3. On penalties, we were 3-3 with two penalties for us and one for them. Joseph Brown failed to score that fourth penalty and it took until our last player (and other centre back) to miss. Near-certain glory to defeat. If I can gain anything from that, they were top of the Wessex League Premier Division.

In the off-season, our focus will be on depth and key positional improvements. Finding a first choice Goalkeeper and Right Back will be crucial as both players from both positions were taken by other teams and it was essentially a rush job to find replacements. The aim is to properly find a first team option for both this off-season.

Depth became an issue with our two centre backs being the only players that would play centre back at a reasonable level and the single, non-start of the series generated goalkeeper could have been catastrophic.

If I find any other improvements, I'll take advantage but the key improvements are Goalkeeper and Right Back.

End of Season 3 - 2022/23

Won the league on Goal Difference on the final day. We needed a win and for Bemerton to lose and both scenarios came up and a Wessex League Cup to put us on 46 points.

Our Right Back isn't bad and has done a solid job for us this season and our goalkeeper did as well as I expected so that's not a huge issue. It's all about finding improvements to the squad to keep moving forward than any specific areas right now as we move up the leagues.

A fantastic run in the FA Cup ended when we lost to a National League relegated Torquay side so I'm not unhappy about that. The FA Vase was possible but a poor loss to Burnham put that to bed.

Thanks to the FA Cup, our finances are looking good with over £100k in the bank.

Since our stadium (field) isn't good enough, we're now renting Testwood Stadium which is the home of AFC Totton. Totton finished 7th in the Southern League Division 1 South so we'll be stadium sharing with a league rival. It's approximately 10 minutes drive away so it's not too bad. Though I'd thought we would rent Team Solent's former ground.

Wrens Nest Season 2038/39.

WHAT A SEASON! We started out ok sitting just outside playoff spots until october had an awful run of form through to december. I was thinking we were going to struggle to just stay up. Then it clicked we were unbeaten through the last 3 months of the season, winning our last 9 reg season games and unbeaten through our last 18 reg season games. Which shot us to 4th in the league. Our semi-final was won in the first leg putting up a 0-4 win over Reading (6-0 on agg). THEN THE FINAL. We went up in stoppage time in the first half. Gave back a goal half way through the 2nd. Thinking it was destined for extra time until the top goal scorer in the league Butler hits the winner in the 94th minute. Back to back promotions, in to the top flight. Here starts the real challenge, staying up then qualifying for the Champions league. We have 21M in transfer budget hopefully can find some cheap quality to build up the club.

Thanks! Its been a wild ride. I have never made it past the group stages of the CL and I have been playing since FM 19. I always play a one club (or try to) ladder climb with a random VNS/VNR team, which is why I have loved this challenge so much!. My goal is to at least make the final before FM 22 comes out. Thank you again for the work you have put into this challenge.

End of Season 4 - 2023/24

Wow. What an end to the season. Began the season strongly but fixture congestion combined with the loss of the promotion momentum meant we slipped from an early unbeaten part of the season which gave us good cup runs in the FA Cup and FA Trophy where we got beaten by teams in League One and the National League. Was on the edge of even making the playoffs but made a tactical change as an experiment for the playoffs in the final league game as Bemerton Heath weren't going to pass us even if we lost. We held on to that win so we were the bottom team of the playoffs.

Last season's chaotic man Joseph Brown got sent off in the first half before their player also had a second yellow in injury time of the first half. Match edging towards penalties so moved some of the team around to accommodate our best taker whilst also taking off one of our worst in Urwin (right-winger). Kithambo wasn't needed for what he was brought on for but I don't care. No trophies but I don't mind winning the playoffs.

The finances don't look as good as you'd think because we've been able to upgrade our training facilities from Poor to Basic which cost approximately £100,000 but we're still healthy for where we are.

You will get the points just no trophy count.

You are very welcome.

I think i could be in the championship for quite a few years yet, over 3 million in debt but finding it hard to sell any players to clear the debt.

At least my reputation could be going up close to the other teams in the league.

End of Season 5 - 2024/25

Short one as not spectacular. Didn't expect it to be as I needed playoffs in the division below. However, Basingstoke won this league with a final day draw and Met Police losing to Poole. A positive note in the fact that we were only 16 points down on Basingstoke compared to the 20 of last season. Horrendous runs of form contributed to that with runs of 8 games without a win and one of that run being a draw. Reducing that next season will be the aim and comparing my scout reports mean that we're likely to be massively overperforming.

Spoiler

The focus of next season will be to improve the defence and goalkeeping positions. Despite an xG of about 44, we conceded 62. That's an area that needs resolving and giving opponents too much space for unlikely shots as well as poor goalkeeping helps that.

Really? I broke even in my season in the championship where are your wages at compared to the league?

I have about the 5th lowest budget of £180,000 pw.

I have cleared the debt i had due to about £26 million in player sales but the players i have brought in as replacements i not quite as good i think.

I due have a few promising young players who could be good in a few years time though.

End of Season 7 - 2025/26

Promotion through the playoffs is fantastic. Had a poor start and changed tactic. Without that poor start, we could have added a title to our collection as well but it was not to be. A Southern League Cup makes up for the lack of trophy.

The Chippenham game wasn't as easy as you'd think. Their two leads deflated me as I expected them to run away and had to make changes. A freekick from Parrett on the stroke of half-time gave us an undeserving lead then Chippenham fell apart. Giving away a penalty which caused the player to be sent off.

Wrens Nest Season 2039/40

WE STAYED UP!!! Transfers are hard, tactics are hard. Finances are easy lol. Not much to report we had a solid 15th place finish but really struggled until the January window, when we brought in a player who actually was scoring goals regularly.

Hats off to your guys in Premier League & Championship divisions! Huge effort and dedication. Must be tough going with the reputation lag and low attendances, but incredibly satisfying at the same time.

I had a crack with two FM21 saves North Ferriby (Level 10) and Wakefield AFC (Level 11), but just couldn't find the same passion as my FC United save in FM20. I got lucky in that save with a potential League 1 winger in my first intake, who later became captain and single handily took the team to League 2.

Have you had any decent youth intakes over the years?

Zero... not one player has made my first team or been sold for any worthwhile money but i think that's pretty realistic I was only able to upgrade anything (Training/Youth Facilities) at the start of my championship season so would make sense that our club doesnt get decent youth intakes. I know its random and you could get lucky.

Would of been great to have someone like that though in the early days.

Cheers for the feedback. Agree with it at least being realistic. In my first Level 11 season, managed to get a HOYD with Professional personality, Formation 4-4-2, Working with Youngsters, Judging Potential but Youth Intake were still terrible every year.

Found it a bit too easy assembling a Conference Level Staff Backroom, so going forward will only use Advertisements. Just annoying to Terminate current staff to even advertise for an Assistant Manager. (Scouts, Physio's don't waiting mind as much).

Yeah I got incredibly lucky with my FM20 save, think he had either Perfectionist/Professional personality to boot. Unfortunately after I left the new Manager played a narrow 4-3-3 and he barely played another game.

Wrens Nest Season 2040/41

We had a great season, we were given the same chances of staying up this year but boy did we over perform. We placed 5th qualifying for Europa. We had some great young signings. Could of pushed for CLQ but drew a couple of games that we leading 2-0 with 20 minutes to go. Overall very happy. I think I have maybe 2 or 3 seasons left before FM 22 comes out at the rate I get through them. So here's hoping we can at least qualify for CL once in that time. We got bought by a consortium and they pump 60M in to our transfer budget which was helpful. New stadium is finished and will our first home game of the season will be our first game in the new stadium which is cool.

Continued my Redcar Town save after a long layoff to get in the mood for FM22.

Last time out (season 23/24) we had just been promoted into the Regional divisions (Northern Premier League Division 1 North West)

Season 2024/25
Started well, hovering in and around the play-offs but a sudden drop off of form meant 1 win in the last 16 to finish 10th.  Throughout the season it was virtually impossible to sign anyone.  99% of players - even those in lower division sides - felt we didn't have a high enough reputation.  Managed to get 1 good player on loan.

Season 2025/26
Another good start but spiralling debt (crowds down 50% since the ground move a few seasons back) meant the wage bill was halved.  Still unable to attract players.  In and around the play-offs, flirted with top spot but finished 8th, 2 points off a play-off position.  Debt was cleared towards the end of the season but transfer budget unchanged.

Season 2026/27
Transfer budget remained unchanged.  Transferred half the scouting budget into the transfer budget and then in turn to wages to try and get a couple of decent players in.  With a combination of new players (best was a 3 star) and a change in formation ended up winning the league with one game to go. Table as it stands.  Could have been an interesting end as the final game was away to 2nd placed Billingham.
