Player Concern - Lack of Depth in an unused position

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

This is not really a full bug report yet, because I want to clear first its this should happen as Im not sure.

I had a concern suddenly pop up backed by many of my players about my squad lacking depth in the right midfield.

The first issue is that this happened after selling one of my full backs. He did had positioninal training up the field but from other posts I thought players only counter those with "natural" ability both to raise their cocnerns and fulfill promises you make to them. Do they count them maybe at a lesser value with partial position training?

The second and biggest doubt is, should this even be happening when my formation doesn't use that position? It feels weird because it puts me in a weird place, specially as 14 players are backing the issue. So its affecting the dresserroom morale pretty heavily unless I promise them something.

I only had this happen once to me in another save but it was about center backs so it was more logical specially as I was planning to hire them myself already in that case.

Another doubt that arise is, when they say midfield right do they just mean the MR position, or does this have in account other positions like AMR? The generic name is leading me to some doubt here. To clear it up. It would'nt matter regarding the rpevious doubt as I use no AMR either.

Last, it isn't really related with the fact of this been a bug or not but just so I know for the future and can identify abnormal behaviour. In the talk I could offer them a promise of having a youth player come up from the lower teams to fill that position. How si that promise fulfilled? Do you just have to bring up to the first team a player with that position trained? Does he have to play a certain number of matches with the first team? Does he need a minimum quality to qualify?

This last doubt could potentially be extended to the strengthen "X" promise that I have seen in negotiations often but so far avoided. Can this other one be fulfilled in a same way by bringing players up from the lower levels or maybe by the growth in skill of a player already present at the team since the promise was made, or does it always require an external transfer of someone that its better?

Cheers, and thanks in advance.

Hey @Jervaj

Few comments on what you've asked...

In FM, concerns about a "position" are a part of the pitch. So Attack = strikers, Midfield = Central midfield, wingers, attacking midfield, inside forwards, Defensive midfielder, all count as midfield. It is not the same as role or duty; it's the part of the pitch they play in. And yeah, "Natural" is what counts most.

When you have a promise active about developing youth, it's basically how well they develop when provided with plenty of gametime. If this seems a bit ambiguous, basically just use your youth player(s) enough and they get better & if you go to Home > Promises you should see this one listed, you can track this there same as any other promise as the player develops.

With Strengthen promises... basically, it isn't limited to just bringing someone new in, BUT it definitely means a player better than your personnel right now. 9 times out of 10, if you have a youth player already better right now than the first team, you'd have called them up anyway...

I hope this helps! From what you've written I don't see it it including a bug... but I appreciate the feedback, the game should be clear about what it means. Hopefully I've filled in some of the blanks :)

Thanks a lot. You did indeed fill some of the blank.

I still have some further doubts though about each paragraph.

In the first, so then he meaning is pretty general. But given they said right midfield, even been generalistic what I would gather is then that it means any kind of wide midfielder in that side...but I dont use any kind of wide midfielder in my formation. Will this count  CM's then even though they say "right"?

About the second, yeah I know about the tracking promises display you mention. I have actually made the promise to see how it develops to test and learn. Worst case scenario I dont mind using the editor to fix things.

That made them very happy in the meantime and are eagerly waiting to see how it goes (they gave a deadline till the end of the season). What I wonder its again what will count.

I have the following:

- 1 young midfielder  (18 yo) I just bought that will see some decent playtime (2nd option for his position and he can cover for any CM really, even DM).

- 1 young midfielder (19 yo) that was in the U-20 and will play similarly to the prior one (2nd option for DM)

- 1 slightly older (21 yo) that was already in the team, its noticeably more skilled already, so will likely improve less even if he does. He will be the other second option, completting the backup trio in the central midfield. Likely to have a bit more playing than the others as if I need someone to cover otuside his main intended role due to injuries  or similar he is the most likely.

- Last I have 1 or 2 (uncertain now because I also have other positions) that I have brought up from my lower teams (U-20 and U-18) that are between 16 and 18 years. They are in the main team for better control and quality of training + mentoring but will mainly play with the lower teams. Would only appear with the first team in an emergency.

Of all this different cases (varying ages, origins and play times), which ones would contribute in some extent towards the promise? Bascially do the ones you make this promise to care abaout origin (the text of the promise when you make it talks about lower teams not transfers) and if ts more about playing time or about actual skill increase?

3rd paragraph about the strengthen promise. I think there was a slight misunderstanding. What I meant was, you bring up a youth player that is not better than the current players in that position now, but he develops and by the end of the season he is.  Does that count or do they only evaluate players upon arrival?

Thanks a lot for your help. And yeah even if there is no bug promises should indeed be made clearer about what they entail. I have seen aroudn the forum issues which are tied with this. I get it can be frustrating if you promise something that you think you are fulfilling and yet later it doesn't and you dont know why. Hasn't happened to me yet but its understandable.
