The schedule has Five Fixtures in just Three Weeks. Schedule The first match after the International break was in St. Etienne..... ASSE is the favorite because of Home field Advantage.... and the media notices our good play.... This was a really even affair and GF38 was lucky to win it late....but Gerard will take the points since his goal is now Champions League! The team set a record....but Gerard is keen for it to continue As one can tell from the Analysis the match was close.... After the win in St. Etienne the team returned home to play FC Nantes another title challenger.... The Match was really close between to even teams.....FC Nantes scored on a late Set-Piece in a game that looked destined to be a draw..... That brought an end to an unbeaten streak that stretched back to the previous season..... As Analysis shows even though the game was close.....FC Nantes was supposed to win.... The disappointing loss led to the team heading out on the road to visit the Principality of Monaco.... The Perennial Title Challengers were out of form but more than good enough to smash GF38.... The team played on the backfoot all night and deserved their beating...... The early goals set a tone and the team just didn't respond.... After that loss the dispirited troops returned home to face OM. Another Title Challenger, but one that GF38 might be able to take advantage of.... as always beware the Home underdog.... Bernard Laurent got the team off to a good start.....OM immediately replied and then the match turned into a midfield battle Royale....that GF38 eventually got the better of and the game winner came on a Serrano Header..... Analysis shows that GF38 was the better team and deserved their win. The Team headed to Lyon to play OL, who was a top the table. A win here would help signal Gerarad's intentions for a real title Challenge. It was another tight Affair and battle between teams with equal fight in them...OL got off to a fast start but GF38 fought back with Eduardo Pires scoring and Fedde de Jong rescuing a draw with a plus time goal. Gerard was in a talkative mood...and claimed the team wanted to do something memorable this season! Analysis shows how lucky GF38 was! but as always Gerard will take a point on the road. Especially when he throws down the Gauntlet to his team! League Table Player of the Month Lenny Pirringuel The Central Midfielder's move to a more defensive role hasn't stopped his getting on the scoresheet. It doesn't look good, but deep down Gerard knew the team had the ability.....because on their day they could beat anyone....It would be making sure of enough days...and figuring out how to score early to play the game on GF38's terms. Those terms are evolving....the team no longer seeks possession for possession's sake as a form of defense.....The team is quite capable of playing defense and hitting a team on the CounterAttack! Gerard took a look ahead and saw only three fixtures all of which were winnable...IF GF38 played their best. Schedule The first match after the International Break was a visit by AJ Auxerre to "Fortress Grenoble".... The Pundits think this match will be close....Gerard isn't so sure..... Gyulian Zouma, a linch pin of the defense, has committed to the club and that should end the transfer rumors and offers. It was another match where the other team denied us the ball, but couldn't do anything with it. Gerard wishes we were a little more clinical on the attack, that will come.... Grenoble in 3rd! averaging over 2 points a match! The analyst's weren't as bullish as Gerard about the performance. Gf38 then set off for a trip to Lille....LOSC was a team in Fine form and are always a tough team to beat. Gerard thought this would be a perfect opportunity to lay down a marker.... The team never showed up.....It was an awful game as shown by the report..... Gerard was embarrassedĀ that the match made headlines....but at least the other team is on an unbeaten....run.... The team had a chance to bounce back after the loss with a match against table propping Montpellier at Stade des Alpes. Another match that the team won, but didn't make it comfortable....even though they controlled the game. As the Analysis shows the team was comfortably in control...just didn't score as many as should have. Just before the end of the month the Board had a meeting and said they would financially back Gerard's Title Challenge! Gerard was less than impressed that might give him enough money to provide a signing bonus to a player already here...... Ā League Table Player of the Month Jose Joaquin Mori The young phenom is settling in well and making the impact Gerard hoped. Analysts Report Playing well, but need to be a little better in front of the net. Management Report This is where the European Money from the Europa Conference would have been helpful. The schedule for November had Four fixtures and after surveying the opposition Gerard expected 9 points from the month. The only loss was likely to be against PSG even though GF38 would be the home team. Schedule The trip to Brittany and Rennes began the month....GF38 always had trouble with Breton Teams.....but the team was playing well..... It was a tight game as expected but our main man Eduardo Pires did his thing....scored a goal! The Team had been under a lot of pressure but the defense stood up to it and the team won on a counterattack from a Set-Piece.... The team was to return to defend "Fortress Grenoble" from the upstart RC Lens team....that was relegation threatened.... Since the team was considered a comfortable favorite and at home, Gerard put out a fully rotated team with important players on the bench to be supersubs if the match didn't go to plan.... The Team didn't have to worry....even though it was the substitution of Mori in the Second half that was the catalyst for the rout! In the small print Eduardo Pires is up for an important award.....he is our goal machine! The team then headed for the Loire Valley and Angers SCO....the team was a favorite and Gerard played a rotatedĀ team..... Bernard Laurent, an Academy Graduate, was the star of the show in a rare start....because the important match vs. PSG was coming up. Clinical finishing was the difference..... The last match of the month was the much anticipated visit of the Stormtroopers of the "Galactic Empire" of PSG.... Doesn't look imposing....Gravenbach and Tonali were on the bench last game, and Fabinho is a super sub. Their Central Midfield is awesome.... A little controversy pregame..... The team had practiced a more defensive tactic for this game and tried to win on the counter....GF 38 had abot 3 real chances....The new Tactic worked until a WB crossed a floated ball over the defense to an unmarked newly subbed on player....for a header that was of course converted and that was PSG's only real chance.... The media thought PSG was dominant, but the analyst report says something different..... League Table 4rth place 6 points from the top....but the top 8 were all within 6 points of us in either direction. The team would need to keep up the good play and nick a win or tie off other challengers in the second half of the season. The loss to PSG was both encouraging and infuriating at the same time.....Tuchel had rankled Gerard with his comments. Looking ahead though the month of December was looking like an opportunity to keep the pressure up on the Title challengers with three fixtures against teams far down the table. The team would have to do a professional job....but that is only to be expected.....Six Points or Nine points are expected. Schedule The first match after the PSG match was a trip to Reims....a decent mid table team.....that could cause some issues, but should be beatable. The Pundits agree with Gerard so the team should be careful.....as always beware home underdogs! The team got off to a good start with a goal from Eduardo.....the team struggled to get a second, but finally did in extra time. As one can see the match was tougher than the scoreline reflects, and reflects that the differnce was Papy Sidibe in goal. The next match was another dreary trip to Brittany that Gerard had begun to loathe.....on paper GF38 should have no trouble with the table propping Brestois.... but as always the best laid plans find a SNAFU.....and become FUBAR..... This match was getting FM'md from beginning to end.....Brestois's goal was a worldly missile that scored from 28 yards that no goalie on earth could have saved,Ā and some how every shot equal to it by GF38 was saved by the Brestois GK. This is why Gerard was furious....outplayed them and should have won....by analytics...were throwing away 3 points! In better news the Youth Intake was Pre-Evaluated.... about 4 decent players not bad after having one poached by OL..... After that Debacle the team had two weeks to stew over the loss....until the next game against NOW table propping FC METZ. but in the meantime the team found out who their opponent would be in the Coupe de France.... The Board offered a 5 year contract, but talks broke down over details over salary.....Gerard will return to the table soon....unless things go pear-shaped! Unfortunately the Goal Machine....got injured again..... And Just before Christmas FC Metz made their way to Grenoble and Stade des Alpes..... another pathetic effort.....Gerard is really beginning to understand how much his "system" depends on Pires. Another match that the team was toothless in front of the net.... The team then got ready for a trip to Rodez....for the French Cup.... Rodez is in Good form, but Gerard has faith and plays a fully rotated team against them..... The match was much like all the others this month and a desultory affair.....it went to overtime and GF38 won.... The Rodez Manager might be right....if they had played against the Starters! and Gerard won another Award! And Eduardo won the Best Foreign player in Ligue 1 Award! The fine print is we are a good team with Eduardo in the lineup not so much without. League Table Player of the Month Fedde de Jong brought in as a replacement for Moussa Djitte, Fedde has become a Super-Sub par excellence! and is threatening Edgaras Utkus's hold on the #10 position. The month had at least 5 Fixtures. Four in the league and at least one in Coupe de France. Gerard was looking for at least 8 points from the Ligue 1 matches and ideally would like to win the tricky match with LOSCĀ in the Coupe de France....but would be ok if team didn't win. Schedule The month opened with the drawing of the next opponent in Coupe de France.... Gerard was hoping for Rivals FC Annecy from the National! The draw put us at home against a high flying LOSC which is winnable but a tricky match nonetheless. PSG got FC Annecy..... The first trip og the month was the teams visit to newly promoted Troyes.....the team was rotated and ready for the game.....unfortunately so was Troyes who fought to a 2-2 Draw! It was an ugly game where the team did its patented fall behind get yelled at halftime comeback and tie or win the game.....SMH! The day after the team was rocked by an offer for our star player Biancone one of the rocks of this seasons defense.....unfortunately the offer was so large that the Chairman couldn't refuse, Bernard protested and then asked them to negotiate a better deal.... This is the renegotiated offer.... $56M up front and $15M after 50 games= $71M !Ā Even with all the new money the team would be hard up to find a true replacement for Biancone .... After his protest Gerard went back to the board about his contract..... Not as long as first offer or as lucrative, but with incentives not bad.....and since Gerard doesn't really want to leave.....(Unless they sell another player without his consent) The Chinese came in for Pires our Talisman!.....the Board almost sold him....SMH. After the shakeup the team still had games to play..... LOSC was a favorite, but never bet against home underdogs.... Gerard offered Pires a new contract in an effort to raise his value..... Biancone did leave.....Gerard was hoping that Biancone would not sign with the Chinese team, but realized the team couldn't afford to match the wages. The match was a desultory affair and the team wasn't ready to go on without the Vice-Captain. The match wasn't as bad as Gerard made out, but the team was stopped by a "Super Goalie"! Ā The Transfer income from the Transfer was more than our annual budget! The team then had to play host to the "Mustard Makers" after the loss to LOSC! and the Boys allowed Gerard to celebrate his Birthday in Style! Thanks to Eduardo! PSG is beginning to to get it act together with a beat down of Lorient! and the analysts were thrilled with the result as everyone else at the team. The team then had to head to Brittany and take on a shaken FC Lorient team reeling from it recent loss to PSG.... Grenoble is favored but must do a professional job to get the points! Another good win....the team is beginning to hum..... The difference in the game was clinical Finishing and bad goalkeeping! In our month of Squad Tulmult....A Saudi Team came in with a low-bid for Papy Sidibe our GK.....he kicked up a fuss even though he was away with Senegal in the African Cup. That allowed Gerard to search for his replacement and found one in a young Argentinian. Yes, Gerard overpaid for the New GK, but options were few and any true upgrade was still out of reach. Ā As one can see the Biancone deal was the biggest single deal in the transfer window..... The new signings..... These are the replacements for Biancone and Sidibe. The Final match of the month saw local rivals AS-ST. Etienne come to Stade des Alpes.... The team was in fine form and the new GK and DR played well in their debuts! The team was in control from the beginning and won easily....the team is on a roll.... and the Media deign to notice the team's good form..... The month featured Four Fixtures with all fourĀ against perennial title challengers including the top team in the League OL. As always Gerard was looking for at least 8 points from the four matches. Schedule The Team started February with another long dreary trip to Brittany and this time FC Nantes and their ugly Florescent Yellow Kits. Nantes is a good team that should beat GF38 at home but they a little out of form.... Again with the now patented slow start and Hairdryer at Halftime.....almost didn't work it was Super-Sub Bernard Laurent that saved the team's Bacon. The team didn't play well but got the points.....Gerard doesn't know why the team has such trouble with Breton Teams.... The team then played on the "Game of the Week" against AS Monaco.... Monaco is a slight favorite due to their great form....but never bet against a home underdog! It was a very even game with neither side giving an inch in the midfield....near the end of the game Super Sub BL came on and scored.....He is GF38's "Totti" if Gerard has any say in it, but he has lost his starting job to Mori, but seems almost more effective as a Super sub for Eduardo Pires at AF! This is because he is a bigger more physical player and provides a different profile than Pires. The media are recognizing the run..... and The team started off the Weekend Highlights! As one can see by the analyst's metric GF38 should have lost......but that is why this is the "Beautiful Game" GF38 and Gerard had no time to rest on their Laurels as they made a trip to Marseilles to play OM. As another of the perennial contenders OM always have a formidable team..... and playing at home they were favored over the "hot" GF38. The match offered much if you enjoy defensive Football between near equal teams.... It was a desultory affair that OM probably should have won....but the New GK proved his worth! That sets up the "Game of the Year" for GF38 Fans....a visit by Rivals OL to the Stade des Alpes! OL was top of the table but was now stumbling.....Never Bet against Home Underdogs..... OL had the better of the ball and the many more chances, but it was GF38 that made the most of their chances and scored two Critical Goals! Fedde de Jong's effort was a missile like volley from 25 yards out! After it though GF38 had to defend like their lives depended on it to come away with the victory..... As the analysts will tell you.....GF38 was Lucky! Gerard backed his boys and was proud of the effort put forth..... Unfortunately the Jubilation was cut short because the Chairman sold another player....to the Chinese...... and all Gerard could do was ask the Chairman to get more money.....even though Lenny was the key to our Central midfield. $28.5M becoming $35M....with a percentage of profit from Next Sale..... Two players Gerard brought in on Free Transfers brought in $107M....plus....no wonder the Chairman was willing to sell....even though Gerard thinks the sales hurt the team this season. Again Gerard hoped that the player wouldn't agree, but the wages were much better in China..... Unfortunately this Transfer is outside the window thus GF38 can't get an immediate replacement.....and will have to soldier on with the current options.... The month saw the team have Three Fixtures and a International Break. Looking at the teams involved, Gerard expected at least 7 points. Schedule The month started with a trip to Burgundy and AJ Auxerre.... Grenoble was a favorite but would need a professional job to get all the points! The team started as always asleep at the wheel.....AJ Auxerre played their hearts out....against a rotated team, but Super Sub Captain Julien Serrano scored a rare goal as the game was winding down. The run Continues! The team was lucky to escape with a draw as shown by the analysis..... After the disappointment in Burgundy the team returned to "Fortress Grenoble" to defend it from LOSC. The team wanted revenge for their Humiliation at the hands of LOSC in the Coupe de France in January. GF38 was a favorite and keyed up for the Game and played Great! It was complete Domination with both Eduardo Pires and Bernard Laurent Scoring goals....The Run continues....How long will this last? The team headed into the third and last game of the month with good morale and confidence..... Montpellier was in the Relegation fight and playing badly.....but ALWAYS respect Home Underdogs! Ā The game started off with Martin Obregon scoring in the first minute and after that nothing went to plan.....and Montpellier's ENTIRE Team had a Higher the 7.0 rating! even so It took such a game to stop GF38's roll even though the defense took the game off after some early yellow cards...and the comeback was hampered by Pires offsides calls. Ā As one can see the team was outplayed.... In better news the team tied up a few players who were mostly to provide depth..... The team signed another player off the "castoff" list to see if we could train up for first team duty or Sell in future The reason the second player was on the list......a Failed medical....ACL out for 5-8 months. and then it was Youth Intake Day! Gerard wasn't impressed, but here are the top four players Gerard just went along with the HOYD's recommendations..... Gerard didn't think any of these players would make it, but he had been wrong before...Bernard Laurent was an example! The next match was on the First of April and would probably determine if GF38 made Europe..... and like the game needed more Hype! Eduardo has scored an amazing 19 goals in 23 appearances.....which shows how important he is to our attack.... League Table Player of the Month Bernard Laurent The academy graduate is falling short of the expectations of the first year with the team, but still plays an important role as a Super Sub. I think it is because it is a Top 5 League and Latvia isn't.....maybe you could look into the ASSE job in your save. It is a Fallen Giant that has TEN Top Division titles, but last one was in 1970's. Now He was only interested in making sure that GF38 ended up with European Football. The month of April would see Five Fixtures and a International Break. Many of the matches were against lesser teams, but both RennesĀ and PSG were on the schedule so those would be tough matches and Gerard was hoping for 11 points, but 8 would be more realistic. Schedule The First match of the month was a home match against Stade Rennais at "Fortress Grenoble". It was an ugly match with neither team giving an inchĀ and at the end both sides were found to be equal after 90 minutes. After the game some player commented about their play in the important 6 pointer. and Gerard was talkative as well..... and said he still had confidence in the team getting European Football. ON TO LENS! DO YOUR JOB! The next match saw the team head to Lens where they should pickup points..... But the team would have to play much better in front of the net..... The team was better in front of net, but the defense was off-duty that night..... Academy Grad Bernard Laurent was the Hero of the Night....5 GOALS! Without those five goals the team would have lost..... as analysis shows.... Angers SCO was the next opponent for the GF38 team this time at Stade des Alpes....with an important match against PSG just 3 days later Gerard planned on rotating the squad. The match went as expected even with an under-strength team. Bernard Laurent kept up his amazing goal scoring spree with two more! and Analysis proved how important Laurent was.... He was the difference. That setup a trip to the "Death Star" in Paris. The Stormtroopers were a little weaker than usual so Gerard was hopeful.... Even with this "weaker" team PSG were definite Favorites to win.... Gerard shot his mouth off a little bit before the game to "encourage" the team.... Unfortunately the game was an anticlimax.... and the analysis was damning! Four days later PSG probably did GF38 a favor by winning the Coupe de France..... because now there would be an extra European Place. and because we are making money.....people are talking about buying the team..... from a bunch of money-grubbing venture capitalists! The final match of the month was against a struggling team from Reims! GF38 was a comfortable favorite due to table position.... The match was an ugly affair where Reims "parked the Bus" and defended their box in depth....and since now the team is based more around counterattacking the team had no answers. Then Reims had a player sent off in the 71rst minute and it looked like GF38 would score but it was not to be. Instead in the last minutes Reims would win a Freekick and then score! perfectly FM'ed. The race is tightening at the top but is OL's to lose....GF38 needs to Consolidate 5th place! The analysis of the Reims match shows that any other day GF38 would have won the 3 points! League Table Player of the Month Bernard Laurent The GF38 Academy Grad was given a long-term contract because when he is in he just scores! Analysis Report Not bad but could be better.... Schedule The first match of the month was a visit from one of those annoying Breton teams: Stade Brestois 29 visiting Stade des Alpes. GF38 needs this match to consolidate 5th place the greatest achievement of GF38 yet other the the Europa Conference Trophy in 2026? Thanks PSG! we have some wiggle room for European Football next season. We are at least in the Europa Conference and the team has won that trophy before..... But we are trying for better......Europa League and that trophy will be next season's target....as Gerard mulls his plan..... Gerard used a strong team, but it took ALL 90 minutes to put Stade Brestois Away...... Pires got an improved contract and is about to cash in! Fortunately the team has the money..... This game was a walk even though it seemed tougher to the uneducated eye.... Gerard went to the Board and made a number of requests..... Training Facilities and the fact that we have filled the stadium for a number of years meant it was time for a renovation..... GF38 had to travel to Lorraine and the Fortress City of Metz to play relegation threatenedĀ FC Metz..... The team needs toĀ Ā do well since the players of FC Metz should be fighting to keep themselves in Ligue 1! The defense was the star this day and allowed and setup all of GF38's goals on the counter because FC Metz was trying to score to save there lives which made then more susceptiple to the counter attack. Gerard loves it when a plan comes together.....Europa League trophy is the goal next season. OL finally ended the Galactic Empire's Dominance.....with no help fromĀ GF38! Analyst's were impressed with the performance against FC Metz! Since Gerard was overachieving a big manager job was available, Gerard got named a potential Candidate.... Normally, Chelsea would be a job anyone would salivate over.....but since this is a one team save the answer is now even if they do offer an interview..... The last match of the season was dead rubber...... and the team played like it! even though the analysts weren't as sure about the certainty of a OGC Nice win.... 5th place has decent prize money.... The Board held a rapid meeting to tell Gerard of next season's plans..... The Stade des Alpes is being expanded since the team keeps selling the stadium outQ The team's best ever finish! Mori is best rookie player not bad for an 18 year old..... The most important new arrivals were Jose Joaquin Mori who led the team in assists Ryduan Michia the new Goalie. Fedde de Jong brought in for depth has surprised Gerard with his ability. 5th place is an overachievement when the team was preseason 12th. The Coupe de France run never got started due to a tricky match with LOSC..... The three stars of our offense are featured in the moments to remember. The finances are in good shape and the record Transfer money is being reinvested in the team and facilities. It is remarkable that the team achieved as much as it did with player ratings as low as these. It reflects the soundness of our formation and tactical plan. Eduardo Pires is the metronome of the team.....when he plays the team wins and his missing December was a blow....Bernard Laurent is a fantastic Super Sub! This Mexican Centerback should be a much better player than Moritz Jens and will play Middle Centerback of the Three, but as a Surprise he might be retrained as a Wingback because he has speed and some crossing ability. The list of Candidates for the now open GM/Director of Football job was a Who's Who of Ex-Players.....Edin Dzeko had the best Attributes and Personality, but Gerard decided he wanted to be the star of the Front office and hired a little known GM from Clermont:Ā Ingo Winter. Edin Dzeko had a better Personality (Model Citizen) and Equal Attributes but didn't really have any ties to French Football and didn't Speak French! Even though he spoke like 7-8 Languages Fluently. He was then given the same responsibilities as last GM with Gerard hold Veto power on any transfer decisions. The Balance sheet continues too expand....which is a good thing! Board meeting to improve staff pay....Gerard approves but will still pay as little as he can get away with.... The reason for the Stadium expansion.....wouldn't be able to get many more people into Stade des Alpes with old configuration. France and GF38 need a top 4 finish to get into Champions League, that is this season goal. The 8thbiggest/best team in France decent progress so far...need Ligue Titles and and Champions League to progress further. The media named GF38 the biggest overachievers of the season thanks to a fast start. 54th best team in Europe.....work needs to be done to improve that! Decent TV Money.....between Sponsorship, TV Money, and Prize Money the Players Salaries are paid....which is why the Chairman is always happy to sell a player. The beginning of the season should give the team a chance to repeat Last season's Hot Start! FC Lorient is the toughest team in the first 5 matches! Justin Richard an Academy product who played at Mouscron last season was rewarded because he will be in the first team due to Euro Cup Rules and Ability! The Stadium Expansion and increasing numbers of Supporters who will enjoy European Nights make Gerard excited for the Future! Two Long serving Players were let go....Moritz Jenz and Edgaras Utkus....we could have resigned them, but the team wouldn't have a chance to get better. Gerard tried to upgrade their positions during the offseason. Transfers The team has spent $26M mostly on the replacements for the two long serving starters. Luca CassaroĀ a late addition and a bit of a depth option and the fact he can play multiple positions a plus. Ali Ashiri A player for the future and destined for Grenoble2. Roman Heck A decent cheap Backup GK. Gonzalo Contreras The Centerback will replace Moritz Jenz in the middle of the Back Three, but may end up as a Wingback a replacement for Biancone! Hasan Aydin The former BMG #10 will fill that role for GF38. He replaces Edgaras Utkus....not as good a set piece taker but a better athlete that fits our tendency to take teams on the counter to get our goals..... Destined to be a BPD(c) The Aydin has the Physical Attributes Utkus lacked and Utkus had Set Piece Ability that Aydin lacks (12 Corners ans 12 Freekicks) and Utkus was primary Set-Piece Taker. But having Aydin Physical Skills and Heading has opened up options.... Contreras is/was brought in to be a CD/Cover in the current system....I tried him out at WBR against Grenoble2 and he got a 7 rating! To do that Gerard scheduled many Friendlies....11 to be exact, because according to him there is no substitute to match experience as a teacher.Ā Unfortunately it was then the he found out Contreras the new CB in a key defensive position would miss the ENTIRE Preseason playing for his country in the Gold Cup. Also missing the preseason would be two academy players who were on the first team because of Homegrown rules for Euro Cup. They are part of the France U-19's and play significant roles in that team. Schedule The preseason started off with a tour of Affiliates and other teams....the match of note was the loss against Mouscron of the Belgian Top League which is embarrassing since the projected starters played most of the match. The team returned home to thrash local rivals FC Annecy and a home friendly against Chelsea. The match against Chelsea the team was overmatched and started poorly.....acter a Hairdryer at half-time the team played much better . Including a Set-Piece Goal from Matsima.....Bernard Laurent missed two Clear cut chances including from the Penalty Spot late on. Overall the match showed the team needed to work if they were going to join the big boys.... TheĀ Analysis shows that GF38 was NO match for Chelsea! Season Ticket sales are up which is a good sign..... Basile Ziegler is a Striker that has been converted into a CM-A....also the contract give the player a much higher valuation that should deter Transfers.... He is primarily a sub but is used when Gerard wants more threat in the box..... No Preseason Favorites from the team....which is to be expected....since the team is expected to be mid-table mediocrity.... A week after the Chelsea drubbing RB Salzburg visited Stade des Alpes and was given a rude reception..... A comprehensive 4-0 Victory led by Mori..... The analysis could find no wrong with how GF38 played against FC RB Salzburg. The season ticket sales mean that the expanded Stade des Alpes will be at least 50% capacity for all games! The French U-19's won the U-19 World Championship....and both of the GF38 players made the All-Tournament team! Ntumba is our #3 GK, but will see time in the Europa League. Richard will play if there is an injury to Mori or Aydin....because he is a F9/AMC.... Gerard came into August needing to finish his ambitious preseason and with a need to get off to a good start in Ligue 1, before Europa League Soccer diluted the strength of the squad. There were 6 fixtures. Three Friendlies and Three in Ligue 1. Gerard expected a minimum of 6 points from the three matches but thought 7 or 9 a real possibility. Schedule The month started with Contreras winning recognition of being one of the best players in the Gold Cup.... A DC that didn't score a goal must of played well considering the rubric is skewed toward goal scorers and passers. The last match of Preseason was against Sevilla in a match they wanted.... Gerard used it as a dress rehearsal for the season andĀ was pleased with the result. As one can see Sevilla didn't have a chance and were outplayed.... After the match the final Preseason Ligue 1 Rankings came out..... The pundit's predict a 12th place finish with our two new additions Aydin and Contreras the team's key players. The Board reminded Gerard of it goals for the season... All of which should be within easy reach of this team based on past success.... and ticket sales soared with the Stadium Expansion and the thought of European Nights.... Ā With that the first match of the season would see GF38 AJ Auxerre at Stade des Alpes. GF38 were home favorites and would have to do a professional job to send the fans home happy.... The Team was out of the gate quickly and it seemed that GF38 would roll over AJ Auxerre....a Goal early in the second half put some doubt in the outcome, but Basile Ziegler sealed the 3 points late. The Analyst's were generally happyĀ but gave Gerard some things to work on....but an Opening Day win is always welcome. Mouscron our Affiliate had a decent Youth Transfer Bid on and Gerard decided to match it. Ticks all the boxes with Gerard and will be developed for GF38 or Resale. and for the time being he has been loaned back to Mouscron with our other players needing playing time. After that Interlude, Gerard and the team readied themselves to travel to Reims.... Reims is always a tough team and would be favored because of being at home, but it was a winnable match. The team exchanged goals with Reims and looked like they would get a third but it wasn't meant to be and Reims was given a penalty about midway through the second half....that tied it up. Eduardo Pires was the show with Two goals. Ā The Analysis shows what a close run thing that game was....especially considering Eduardo's Brilliance! and the #1 GK goes down for a month! Newly promoted SM Caen visit "Fortress Grenoble" for some now famous GF38 hospitality.... The team completely Dominated SM Caen enroute to a 2-0 victory! Another Academy Graduate made his debut, he is a CB and should have a long career with GF38 if Gerard has anything to say about it. Bernard Laurent opened his account in the rotated squad. Analysis shows what a complete thrashing this was..... Three players make the team of the week! Not a bad group....FC Nordsjaelland isĀ probably our toughest competition because they come from a playable league. Dinamo is dangerous but GF38 can make the Europa League Playoffs with some decent efforts. And then on Deadline Day came the Offer....for the Vice-Captain Matsima Matsima said he would be unsettled if not allowed talk to Standard and with enough CB's in the "pipeline" Gerard ok'ed the bid. In the end he joined Standard and the team made a profit. Transfer Window was busy as always for the usual suspects. Player of the Month Basile Ziegler Analysts Report The team is playing well but needs to be a little more clinical in front of net. Management Report Thanks For Reading! The rise has been slow at times but steady, which I'd imagine must be engaging and rewarding, if also often frustrating! And yes, the savescumming.Ā The Livorno write up has saved me from doing it at least three or four times in the season (which I'm almost through with, even if the write-ups a bit behind) so I'm really glad I decided to do the write up.Ā I saw some of your results over the years in this save here that would be so very tempting to reload. To say that Gerard has stayed with a tactical philosophy or FormationĀ is not completely true. He started out as a "Out of the Box" (Tactics Editor) Vertical Tiki-Taka System featuring a 4-2-3-1 Wide and was very open at back. He then doubled down on possession and played keep away to fix the leaky defense. Then as he got better Defenders and speedier Forwards he he has evolved to the current 3 CB System that Remains true to Vertical Tiki-Taka, but is much more likely to hit you on the counter than control the game. (Mostly because bigger teams and Equals try to deny us the ball) The Formations The 5-2-1-2 WB is the main formation. It shines because GF38 endeavor to deny the middle of the field to the opposition and the 3 CB's are proficient at Aerial Defense. The 3-5-2 is a little used variant but can be effective at smothering Wide Attacking players. 5-2-3WB Wide is aĀ 3CB cousin of the 4-3-3. It was mostly used during the transition from Four at the back to Three, but is still of use if Gerard wants to attack a team from the wide areas. This is the best Lineup according to the Assman. Gerard doesn't agree! Analysts Report The team is doing much better than average which surprises the Analysts. As one can see the team skews young and tall with some meat on those bones. Also you can see that Gerard is a big believer in Rotation. Which allows him to keep 25 roughly equivalent players happy with their playing time and there is often little difference between the first Teamer or his cover. Fattest team in the League....on the lowest wages. The team is smart and works together but other wise could use some technical skill.... The GK's are good if they can get in position. Defensively the team can position themselves and tackle and don't get pushed around. a bit on the slow side, but it works. The midfield also put the Defensive side of the game first. Offensively the team as a whole needs help....which is why the team is so dependent on Eduardo Pires! Not many teams will out jump my boys which is why we are so effective against crossing teams. Mentally the team is great defensively and needs real help otherwise.... TechnicallyĀ not much to shout about we're good at tackling which allows us to have chance of our own.... Summary The team is overachieving as can be seen by Analysis reports, but that also misses the point. The team is more than the sum of its parts. The players and their roles mustĀ mesh and the roles need to complement each other and the formation.Ā The scouts and analysts have allowed Gerard to assemble a team that implements his vision of the Game.Ā Thanks for Reading! I am getting near the end....because of frustration mostly because I think I have taken Grenoble about as far a one could realistically and probably did better.... Mbappe and Tuchel have been with PSG the entire time yet I don't think they have won the Champion's League....(I will check) Ā I am thinking of building up a small Eastern European side and Country....for my next career thread, if I don't do a Journeyman as "myself". Hootieleece Posted March 30, 2021 Author Share Posted March 30, 2021 Grenoble Foot 38 September 2029 : Regular SeasonĀ "The Gypsy Road" Gerard was flying high after an unbeaten August and the new signings seemed to be settling in....The month of September would see Six Fixtures and a International Break. 5 in the League and 1 in the Europa League. As always Gerard was looking for at least ten points in the League. Schedule The month started fast with a match against ASSE in St. Etienne..... The match was an equal affair in which most of the game was played in the midfield. Fortunately the team got a corner late and Contreras converted. Contreras was a highlight makers and Pundits favorite..with a great game at the defensive end and capping it with a goal to win the game! The analysis shows how close GF38 came to tying or losing the match.... That was the last match before the International Break during which various players joined their national teams.....Contreras and Doucoure from the main team joined the Mexican and Malian Team respectively, but main GF38's Internationals were in the U19's and U-21's mostly. So the future may be bright. After their return from International Duty the team played host to FC Lorient at "Fortress Grenoble". GF38 is a favorite, but only because of Home advantage. GF38 played well, but it was much the same as always....a slow start get yelled at Half-time play like the hair is on fire in second half.....tie or win the game! Another new man making his mark..... The team's good form is noted by the media.... and the analysis says the team played better in second half and probably should have won..... After the Draw against FC Lorient, the team packed its bags for a trip to Croatia to play Dinamo..... Dinamo is a good team, but Gerard decided to take a chance and play a rotated team against them.... GF38 played on the Front foot most of the game, but gave up some inexplicable goals against the run of play....to get only a draw. Dinamo scored both its goals against the run of play....Gerard doesn't know why the nerds think Dinamo was the better team. Ā After the trip to Croatia the team stopped in Nice before returning home....after resting the team against Dinamo, Gerard was set to play his strongest available team.... The game was high drama, GF38 Scored 3 Goals in twenty minutes and looked to be cruising....then the outrageous officiating began.....first a penalty was called then It was missedĀ and the Gyulian Zouma got two quick yellow cards just before halftime and that eventually sealed the teams fate, because after that the entire game was played in GF38's Half and eventually the walls tumbled.... to lose 4-3. Gerard was furious with the team and even more with the officials....and even called them out in the press conference. Of course we lost....you can't win when outnumbered 14-10 on the field. Grenoble headed home for the friendly confines of Stade des Alpes...to face a visiting RC Lens team. The newly promoted team would play a rotated team headed by the Assman, because of a sideline ban of Gerard. And the team played and won easily 2-0. Ā The Analysts were pleased with how the team dominated RC Lens..... After that win the team headed to Lyon and a reservation to play defending Champion OL. This game would be a test of if the team was truly ready to play for the title..... OL was a clear favorite and GF38 would need some luck to get anything out of the game.....but Gerard backs his boys against anyone.... The OL Coach talked big.... and backed it up......It was a completely ugly game like the OGC Nice game being played in our half but without Referee help and in a desperate big to get back in the game GF38 went full attacking and that led to a goal but also allowed Dembele'sĀ two goals. The game unfortunately made the Highlights..... The Analysis shows how bad the team was it was the worst defeat in a longtime..... League Table Player of the Month Bernard Laurent The Academy Grad has been the shining light in some tough lossesĀ theĀ month. Analysts Report Better than average shooting, but close to average statistically because of appalling defense. Management Report Thanks For Reading! Three in Ligue 1 and Two in the Europa League. As always Gerard is looking for 6 points from the League and to do as well as possible in the EL. Schedule The first match of October took the team to Denmark and probably our toughest opponents in the EL Group Stage: FC Nordsjealland. with a big match against OM just 3 days later Gerard played a rotated team. The Locals were hyped about the match..... and a reminder of How much time Gerard has spent at Grenoble.... The Danes were the favorite and playing well and since GF38 was putting out a rotated squad....Gerard was looking for a draw..... The team just never really got going ....even yelling at them at halftime didn't spur better play! Analysis shows that the game was close until the 2nd goal went in....but it wasn't really FC Nordsjeallland was on the front foot all match. After the Europa League disappointment the team head to Marseilles without stopping in Grenoble....The team had business to attend to....stopping this slide before it got worse to begin with. This was an important game if the team was to regain form and maintain table position. The team seemed to return to form, they played much better against the familiarĀ foes, but it was another slow start and a Halftime Hairdryer..... Gerard decided to dole out some praise to raise morale in the team..... Analysis shows that GF38 was the better team after half but just couldn't get a game winner! The International Break came and Gerard focused on Fitness and Set-Pieces in training sessions just like most breaks....players were rotated into the Grenoble2 Squad to up fitness levels. and after the Break the team was ready to return to action against Bordeaux. Since the match was going to be held at "Fortress Grenoble" as expected GF38 were the favorites. The First team played well even though credit must go to the Bordeaux coach as the team never backed down and played to the echo of the whistle. The analysis shows how close the match was and even though the team was on the front foot all game, mistakes were made defensively. A few days later the Stade des Alpes Expansion was finished and it was ready to host a European Night! The facilities are in a good place and the stadium sponsorship will help. The visitors were BATE and were as expected underdogs...... A perfect team to celebrate the re-opening of the Stade des Alpes with! Gerard planned on playing a rotated team including highly touted GK prospect Olivier Ntumba getting his second start....of the season. The team played well and were ahead early the only blemish was failing to get the Clean sheet because of a late goal. The Board is happy that the New Expansion was a success....with fans flocking to see the team play! Unfortunately now the team had a trip to Paris to deal with.....the evil "Galactic Empire" was looking to strike back at Ligue 1 for losing their stranglehold on the title last season. GF38 would play their strongest team available and change tactics to the 5-2-3WB and hope not to get humiliated like they did in Lyon. It Worked! The team didn't get Humiliated....The team defended like their lives depended on it and it was just one mistake that led to the goal! unfortunately the team never really had a chance to test the PSG GK.... Not much to say we were never a threat going forward..... League Table Player of the Month Olivier Ntumba The young goalkeeper made two decent starts during the month against Bordeaux and BATE, but needs a lot on practice and experience to reach his potential. He is the French U-19's Goalie. Analysts Report Bang average overall and in shooting....so I guess we are right where we should be. Management Report Thanks for Reading! I think that is because I don't really understand the intricacies of Football/soccer well enough because I am a late comer to fandom and only played in a few Gym classes in Elementary school when Pele ruled the world.
