Covid in FM

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to see what everyones views are on how COVID is represented in FM ? Rarely do I criticise the game because it's always great and it's how I like spending my downtime. Understandably I see how some use this game for escapism and probably wanted to play this game without being reminded about the situation. I just feel it should've been represented in some subtle ways like no fans in stadiums for half of the season or more players being out through a virus. Obviously not calling it coronavirus but just having a few more virus 'injuries' as such

There was a large thread about the impact and inclusion of Covid prior to launch and the views were split- some wanted it included to reflect realism and many wanted it not to be included just to get away from it.  I suspect that the issues of coding the game to reflect an issue for say only 1 year and then reverting to the normal code may have been seen to be not worth the trouble.  It is not going to happen now, one way or the other.

Dont think it needs to be represented at all . Nasty disease that has killed and ruined peoples lives should not be implemented in a game . We can do with out it i think ( My opinion only though )

To be honest, I think they picked the worst possible option.  I don't think they would have ever completely ignored it by having the schedules "normal", but the fact that they kept the schedules, but nothing else just seems like a pointless half-way house that doesn't really suit anyone.  If they were going to pretend like it didn't exist, they should have kept the schedules.  Otherwise, go further.

Personally, I'd have had the schedules matching real life, and empty stadiums until an arbitrary point in the spring when a vaccine takes hold.  I wouldn't have had Covid as an injury in the game (although wouldn't have been bothered if it was there) but as it stands all we have is a big empty space from summer to October with no explanation.  For a game that already struggles with context and a sense of "life", it's another bad example.

But by picking a random date in the Spring they are essentially creating their own fantasy.  Not saying it wont happen, but I'd say its more unrealistic just to pick a random date in the future and decide thats the point a switch back to normal football will occur.

I created a file where the financial situation of clubs are much worse as they are by default. I was referring to my interpretation of real-life that most clubs aren't that rich as we sometimes think, especially outside of top 8-leagues or so. So especially during the first 2 seasons, teams are really struggling financially and need to find solutions. So this is my "Virus" in the game without putting this **** as an injury into the game.

Cheers

I said how I wanted it.  I made no claims as to whether it would happen.  SI have made their choice.

I DL'ed a Covid database from the Steam Workshop. More a nuisance than anything, I had a couple players randomly out for 3-4 weeks, and one player who was out for 7 months. The Brexit coding is annoying enough, don't need a hard-coded pandemic in the mix.

I understand but maybe small things like no fans in stadiums until spring, finances of teams not being great and more loan signings would've made sense would have had the impact of it without having it on. All hypothetical though was just thinking about it

Problem is that you say before spring ? What happens if it continues in real life so then the game becomes unrealistic in too many ways . Just best to keep it as it was although its unrealistic now in the crowd sense it will return to normal in about a year plus people do play this game long after the new games are out .

At the end of the day, it is a game. Once that is supposed to be a good representation of football on the pitch. I'm glad they did not put covid19 into the game. We have enough to deal with in real life regarding this. I would not want to spend my free time dealing with the consequences in the game as well. I simply would not have bothered to play the game, and I suspect I am not alone in that.

Those people who do want it could also make a DB edit which simulates many of the real world implications I am sure. Adding it as an injury, making it very contagious so it can spread quickly in a squad (simulates close contacts), etc.
