Getting Performance from an Enganche

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am trying to build a tactic centred around an enganche with Inter Milan (Eriksen as the enganche). This is the tactic I've got right now:

I'm unsure on some of the roles here though. Debating between this or an AF and DLF upfront. Also unsure on the central midfield roles. I've set the forwards to roam to make up for the enganche's lack of movement.

Interested in hearing any suggestions or thoughts on the tactic as it stands. Ideally it'll play as an attacking, possession-heavy system with the enganche racking up assists.

For the style of play you seem to be trying to achieve (judging from team instructions), the DLF/AF partnership would definitely make more sense than the current one.

When it comes to central midfield roles, I would definitely switch the mezzala's duty to support and play him behind the more attacking striker. That would both improve defensive solidity and overall tactical balance including optimal space creation and utilization in attack.

The other role (BBM) would be changed into a more holding or covering one, so as to provide better defensive cover for the attacking WB in the first place.

My preferred DM role in this setup would be HB, because both fullbacks are played in attack-minded roles, and HB is precisely the type of role that is supposed to facilitate such style of play.

Last but not least, I would definitely avoid having more than one BPD in a tactic that is so heavily possession-oriented. The same essentially goes for the support duty of your keeper - so I would switch it to defend.

So taking the above into account, my setup would look like this:

DLFsu    AF

ENG

BWMsu    MEZsu

HB

WBat   CDde   BPDde   WBsu

SKde

Of course, my out-pf-possession TIs would definitely be less aggressive, but okay.

I've always wondered about the enganche as you rarely see them used and would like to see how this goes for you following advice you recieve here.

I have tried tactics with one before but he never seems to stand out. I think it's is perhaps a combination over having the wrong player for the role and my own lack of understanding of what he does/needs to be effective.
