The Save

I have decided to do a return of the FMCU Wanderers team in FM21. I have decided that this will be a one club youth only save! This time I will start much lower down in the Vanarama National League South. I have also put all the facilities down to 1 to make this challenge even harder.

The Club

image.thumb.png.a3ae0501152f2bba88e899413fbd9431.png

I replaced Maidstone (first random club pick that landed in Vanarama National League South). I have adjusted the facilities down! We play at the SI Community Park!

The Manager

image.thumb.png.b77dca09890716a3a8f357fe7d89d41a.png

No badges and no experience. We literally are starting right at the bottom!

The Facilities

image.thumb.png.56ccc4f522b9c10bdf083b28a2c668b2.png

Not sure what I have let myself in for doing this but lets see what we can do!

In addition to this I will be doing @Jimbokav1971 goalscoring goalkeeper (I havent done it this version so far and I do enjoy it).

If anyone wants to take any players from the youth intake then feel free. I know we had a few of us in last season! Although this low down I cant see anyone wanting them! But hopefully as we go up things will look a bit better! Wish me luck!

First Game

Our first game is a 5-0 win in the FA Cup 2nd qualifying round. The FA Cup is definitely something I will try and target in terms of getting as far as we can to get money into the club to get better facilities!

Mid-Season Update

Results

image.thumb.png.d4b327211a9a9f4a2f65e262cd2bff83.png

An unbelievable start to the season for us that saw us win 13 of our opening 14 games. A bit of a stumble in January as the amount of games caught up on us.

League Table

image.thumb.png.28cfc7883fd1e5bdf8e33504aac3b25e.png

6pts clear at this stage of the season is great for us. I think our team is definitely good enough to win the league.

FA Cup

image.thumb.png.21a4d47a669009a218bcd9df966e1dfa.png

I hope we get this kind of run each season. It definitely brought income money for us! QPR were just a step too far!

FA Trophy

image.thumb.png.4451a4042aec086465d01c2b02817209.png

We have had home draws throughout and the first 2 games we played rotational sides. For Braintree we went back to the 1st team. Another home draw against Farsley awaits us in the 5th round.

Player Review - Ibby Akanbi

image.thumb.png.87cfcc4c8cb3def630bdff7fec8e0534.png

Akanbi its going to be our main striker for a few years. His strike partner Rendell is 34 and wont last much longer. Akanbi is our top goalscorer and has 17 goals already!

Goalkeeper Watch

Our goalkeeper Lewington has been on fine form and has 5 goals already this season. 3 penalties and 2 free kicks!

Finances

image.thumb.png.11aedb868169ad8648c0746a723c534a.png

Finances are looking very solid for us following that FA Cup run!

Awesome start - can't wait to start seeing the Youth prospects come up from the Academy to the main squad.

I think regardless of how crap the intake is some of them will get game time as we have some old players in our first team and no squad depth!

Youth Intake 2021

image.thumb.png.1856b6bafaec07e078240ef98955c88d.png

A so so intake which is to be expected at this time due to our poor facilities but at least we can flesh the squad out with some players. I have signed all those I have tagged. I have tagged this year based on potential PA.

image.thumb.png.8ba4e590dede3b581c511e0b6f6fe823.png

YP21A - Omar Dally

image.thumb.png.30f63a0a02d1d24d35e24bdbc67b7d39.png

Our biggest prospect this year. Nothing special but he will become our 4th choice striker in the first team. If we can get a couple of points on that finishing he could be a decent striker for this level.

YP21B - Maximilian Ehling

image.thumb.png.f59903cf3e04f1b2f34bed02c59b08a1.png

I would say probably the best player in terms of current ability out of this intake. Solid mentals and good passing and technique. Will be moved into the first team as well!

YP21C - William Anpong

image.thumb.png.e9039a7be221223dc70ae56dc4234701.png

Solid technicals on Anpong (YP21C) but poor physicals. He definitely has the potential to become a solid squad player in the future in the midfield roles.

YP21D - Ajani Tufton

image.thumb.png.b0896d47e0f6e2bb2c5f93e676f05786.png

Tufton (YP21D) I am not too sure what to make off. Some decent mentals but not much else. Potentially a 4th choice centre back in the future.

YP21E - Josh Spearing

image.thumb.png.04f62abd6d9f5ed08f3d768ca6ebc596.png

Spearing (YP21E) is another with no real standout qualities but signed just to flesh the squad out. Will see how he develops. Potentially utilise him in the AMC role.

YP21F - Malachi Gilbey

image.thumb.png.a234cbf3a10d10a26bb5f81cfecb889f.png

An are we are very short in. Gilbey (YP21F) will become out backup right back.

YP21G - Noah Baker

image.thumb.png.c3bc18d640d9048b6781310414b511b0.png

Baker (YP21G) will become our backup goalkeeper. He isn't great but our current backup is incredibly poor.

YP21H - Craig Forbes

image.thumb.png.cf464547745ee81351cb1a10b46315dd.png

Forbes (YP21H) is going to become a part of the first team. We dont have many wingers and he has solid dribbling and technique. Could be a useful addition!

YP21I - Selcuk Cinar

image.thumb.png.21b67cd239e7c88d5b0ab4537f187ae0.png

A 6 foot 3 centre back. Not much technique or skill but a good old fashioned John Smith centre back!

End Of Season

Results

image.thumb.png.b6cf89c613a5d906e1a8982dbdfa7176.png

A fantastic 2nd half of the season where we continued our fantastic goalscoring escapades! We wrapped the league up fairly early and I managed to give the youth players a few games!

League Table

image.thumb.png.b8af59e119a5044d9cff5b8a843fbc6e.png

A great first season and we go up as champions!

FA Cup

image.thumb.png.2822cc605818a20f45da4c7234e2fdf5.png

A kind draw up until the 3rd round where QPR were simply too good for us! It helped us gain some good finances and improve the facilities!

FA Trophy

image.thumb.png.da229169cea2065500ba2b5ba4ac76b4.png

Our 2nd string did well to get to the Quarter Final but Fylde where too strong for us!

Player Review - Joan Luque

image.thumb.png.e7800adcd9d63b6012c401c4f1437a9c.png

Luque has been fantastic this season with 10 goals and 14 assists from the left hand side!

Goalkeeper Watch

Lewington ended up with 11 goals in 41 games.

Youth Review

image.thumb.png.e5480e7ef4c3a25472db9647bee34861.png

We managed to give some of our young players game time at the end of the season. 3 of them have managed to open their accounts and goalkeeper Baker (YP21G) kept a clean sheet on his debut!

Season Overview

image.thumb.png.2db0da52ff6e2a99fb9cff1a82f2224b.png

We managed to increase the junior coaching and youth recruitment and youth facilities are due to be expanded at the end of the season!

From my experience in my save, each increase in Junior Coaching improves the Intake noticeably.

Fingers crossed! We could definitely do with a few players. We have an aging poor squad!

Mid-Season Report

Results

image.thumb.png.2bf8174e09bf02f255fb98f44d5d0d0c.png

It has been an up and down season so far. We started off brilliantly well and were up around the promotion spot. But injuries and suspensions and a lot of games have hit our small and ageing squad!

League Table

image.thumb.png.62d64148c05037f4fc657333b0b1f030.png

We are just about clinging onto a playoff spot but I doubt that will happen in current form but way above where we are expected to be which is 22nd!

FA Cup

image.thumb.png.f3c68875498a0f7026b93c11dc7d8a7b.png

It has been another kind run to the 3rd round of the FA Cup where we will play QPR again!

FA Trophy

image.thumb.png.2b775e9d0b58330a4f80cd39d37de5f4.png

A fully rotated team made hard work of getting past Kingstonian. We have Halifax in the next round!

Player Review - Omar Dally (YP21A)

image.thumb.png.a56faa2c1b3d3bd1f2ab81b642be8f9e.png

Dally (YP21A) has been progressing well and has 4 goals this season. Still well below quality but is getting game time to help his development!

Goalkeeper Watch

Lewington has 5 goals in 24 games so far whilst Baker (YP21G) has an amazing 4 goals in 8 games!

Youth Review

image.thumb.png.876b2a42ad8c748a35cf376a66d708b0.png

Decent development here especially Ehling (YP21B) and Dally (YP21A) who have nearly hit double digits in terms of CA development. Others have been slow in terms of their development but at least they are heading upwards!

Youth Intake 2022 - What Is Required?

Goalkeeper

Our starting goalkeeper Lewington is 33 now so we could do with a solid prospect coming through. Baker (YP21G) has done ok this season but his PA is no where near the quality we need to progress.

Full Backs

We are ok in terms of our starting left back Chesmain but outside of that we are in trouble. Our starting right back is Hoyte who will be 32 before next season starts and his CA is already ploughing down. Our backup right back is Gilbey (YP21F) who currently has 18 CA. So that shows the depth we have there. We currently have no backup left backs so our centre backs are covering if need be.

Centre Backs

My biggest area of concern. Our 2 starting centre backs are Elokobi who is 36 and Ellul who is 33. With their CA on the downturn and our backup, Kamdjo, also over 30 we are struggling. With this in mind I have called up Cinar (YP21I) and Tufton (YP21D) into the first team to try and get games to develop them.

Centre Midfielders

Our centre of midfield is not too bad. Corne and Khan are 2 of the best players at the club and Krasniqi is a solid backup to them. However they all tend to play the deeper lying role with none of them overly suitable as the number 10. Dally (YP21A) has played that role the most this year with Boucaud his backup. He is now 37 and retiring at the end of the season.

Wingers

Our starting 2 wingers are pretty good for this level and at 25 and 29 they still have a few years left yet. Our only backup to them however is our youth players who came through last season and who are not really up to scratch yet.

Strikers

Our starting 2 strikers are decent for this level and at both 22 and 24 they have a lot of time on their side. Our backup to them is Dally (YP21A), who is playing the number 10 role and Spearing (YP21E) who is not up to scratch yet.

Overview

In terms of order this is what I would love first:

1) Centre Back

2) Right Back

3) Attacking Midfielder

4) Winger

5) Left Back

6) Striker

7) Goalkeeper

8) Deep Lying Centre Midfielder

Having a look at our preview lets see what we could potentially be getting:

image.png.0832796fa2e4beecb0c171244b4b2439.png

I have just noticed that the preview I got in December said poor crop of players and now the preview is saying potential golden generation. @Jimbokav1971or @abulezz have you had this before or do you believe this is simply my improvements kicking in after the original preview?

Anyway out of this we seem to be getting a decent attacking midfielder and also a centre back which ticks off 2 of the 3 main ones I would like. Fingers crossed!

Yes. It's a bug that I reported long ago.

Just ignore the preview in terms of quality. (To be honest I ignore it completely).  I'm not sure that everything else is right with youth intakes either at the moment. There was definitely something wrong in Gibraltar but I think I have worked out that that was linked to Youth Rating, but I'm not sure that all is well elsewhere either. I just can't quite work out what exactly is wrong.

Youth Intake 2022 - Overview

image.thumb.png.09f16e09bfd757849674a62e17320843.png

This on paper looks like a great intake and covers off a lot of the areas we needed! An attacking midfielder and a centre back as well as a very good goalkeeper! Now lets look at PA vs PPA.....

image.thumb.png.a3b84f274cc056d15bf59aec23342eed.png

2 players with a PA of over 100 is fantastic for us and another of nearly 100! The others below that level have been brought in too flesh the squad out but this looks like a very good intake!

I will show the players tomorrow!

Youth Intake 2022 - The Players

YP22A - Mark Holmes

image.thumb.png.347de358bb2e3fb2b2caa9795acc40da.png

Holmes (YP22A) will come in as our starting goalkeeper. He isn't as good as Lewington yet but he has massive potential and the earlier he can reach that the better for us.

YP22B - Richard Allen

image.thumb.png.e3bb2ca1e82f877e02f26240b3f86500.png

Our big attacking midfield prospect. At first glance doesn't look look great but when you look a bit deeper those stats for that position we have a lot of high single figures that we can convert into a much better player. Will be called up to first team!

YP22C - Harry Stewart

image.thumb.png.b4c3ca3ba6810a37a11f900d352b2c03.png

Stewart is our big centre back prospect and he will be called up to the first team. Not great marking, strength and pace or positioning but can head a ball and tackle which I guess is enough for this level! Will also be called up to the first team.

YP22D - Reece Parkin

image.thumb.png.d29f8ac000325a7288d0811d62d08438.png

Parkin I will probably utilise on the right hand side due to his good pace and acceleration. Outside of that I dont see much of a player.

YP22E - Ahmed Al Janafi

image.thumb.png.d0cf4555b48f9dae027ebcd90d78d947.png

Al Janafi is another who doesn't have big potential but does cover a position we need cover in which is the left back position.

YP22F - Ben Plant

image.thumb.png.b8755b5fdcd8bc23fffb6b2487e4ffa5.png

Plant is one of those nice players to have in the squad as he covers anywhere across the backline. Again not much technical ability but useful for fleshing the squad out.

YP22G - Richard Douglas

image.thumb.png.75248707b892c5047e2fcfe44d0fa772.png

Douglas has very good mental stats for this level. If we can work on that passing a bit he could be a useful squad player for that deep lying role.

YP22H - Nashton Grosvenor

image.thumb.png.c8696aeb259fb0947795be49b2be1924.png

Lastly Grosvenor has been signed simply due to the lack of wingers we have at the club. Cant ever see him being a starter but is there as an emergency backup.

Playoffss

image.thumb.png.1afca61a3eb0107d8017f7083b772e62.png

We play Barnet in a one legged affair. We drew 1-1 at home with them whilst we beat them 2-1 away. Lets hope that continues!

image.thumb.png.ff7594dad4d3e3c92d7eca4df960fcb8.png

Unfortunately their finishing was better than ours on the day. I think going up this season we would have massively struggled next season. As it is I am hoping to blood in a few additional youngsters next season and really getting some of the older players out of the team.

End Of Season

Results

image.thumb.png.b5e4c60a266a7e038b0dcab375821cbc.png

Well the 2nd half of the season was just as up and down as the first. Some crazy matches sin here including back to back high scoring draws away at Fylde and Yeovil and also thumping Woking 8-1 and champions Port Vale 7-0.

League Table

image.thumb.png.c5472cdad91a2883ffa5220287e82778.png

We ended up in 7th place in the playoffs but were knocked out by Barnet comfortably. A fantastic overachieving season for us.

FA Cup

image.thumb.png.a47b4cc41258eb8eb1168ede3c14abcc.png

Another run to the 3rd round which was again ended by QPR, although we ran them much closer this time.

FA Trophy

image.thumb.png.d792ab48696f36aa4cdd84ba9f0e8820.png

Halifax ended our run in the FA Trophy as our rotated team just weren't good enough to get past them.

Player Review - George Elokubi

image.thumb.png.07122e093a7f627a2e6c8045280e16c0.png

Elokubi is retiring this summer. He has been a rock at the back for 2 seasons for us. Former Premier League experience at Wolves and he really was one of our better players. We dont really have much in replacements for him bar our younger youth players so it could be more of a struggle.

Goalkeeper Watch

Our keepers did pretty well this season. Lewington ended up with 7 goals and 2 assists and Baker (YP21G) scored 4 goals in 10 games. Holmes (YP22A) only played 1 game and is yet to get his 1st goal.

Youth Review

image.thumb.png.0c33531e9500aa65353406c20a80c7cd.png

Some decent development with 2 players hitting double figure CA development. 3 others nearly hit that level as well. In terms of performance we didn't really have any standout players which is no surprise as they are very young and not quite at this level yet.

Season Overview

image.thumb.png.40083420e4596c1a3367f4d83452d876.png

We have upped out average attendance by 1300 or so people which is great. Our finances took a hit with the training facility improvement but we are still solid in this department and as more of our older players retire our wage budget is steadily decreasing. 3 of the 3 facilities have been improved this season and the training facilities are currently being improved and should be updated next season!

Squad Depth - Current Ability

Here is our big issue currently. Below I will show you are current first team and their current ability. I have filtered this to show only 2 stars and above!

Goalkeepers

image.png.d6ab8f6d37b2ea03fa3dacf376fecfb8.png

We have one goalkeeper who meets this criteria. He is 33 and his stats will keep getting worse.

Full Backs

image.thumb.png.d88fc8e6bc650e6413b220c738d1fa45.png

As you can see we only have 3 defenders at the club who meet this criteria. One right back (who covers the other positions), one centre back and a left back. Its an area of great concern currently as 2 of these 3 players are 33 years old!

Midfielders

image.thumb.png.ac535a327ac2b3e2bc771f3569827def.png

We are slightly better off in midfield thankfully. We have 2 very good wingers in Luque and Amaluzor. And in the centre we have Corne and Khan although I think both are better suited to the deep lying role so our big prospect Allen will be getting a lot of game time in that position.

Strikers

image.png.8049558d81aa4979d7c2f01f29d761e4.png

We are ok here in terms of our 2 starters but dont really have much backup. Amaluzor is our starting winger and we have 2 youth players as backup.

In terms of potential we have the following:

Goalkeepers

1x 5 star potential (PA 118)

1x 2.5 star potential (PA 55)

Defenders

1x 4.5 star potential (PA 65)

2x 4 star potential (PA's 97 and 65)

1x 3.5 star potential (PA 64)

1x 3 star potential (PA 55)

1x 2.5 star potential (PA 53)

Midfielders

1x 5 star potential (PA 116)

1x 4.5 star potential (PA 74)

1x 4 star potential (PA 53)

3x 3 star potential (PA 61, 65 & 69)

Strikers

1x 4.5 star potential (PA 76)

1x 3.5 star potential (PA 62)

I included the PA's as I found it quite interesting to see the discrepancies in these. As @Jimbokav1971 will know a lot of the time the star rating is very hit and miss!

I think that's to be expected though. I haven't read your thread yet but I know Justin Amaluzor so have a fair idea of the level you are playing at and using him as an example it's very hard to work out what his PA might be, (and it's probably randomised anyway I think). In real life who knows how good he might be, so how can we expect the scouts in the game to know what his in-game PA might be? I know this has been more accurate in the past, but I'm a BIG fan of it being inaccurate, even with relatively high profile players. just about everyone in the real World got Kane's PA completely wrong, and how many wonderkids have we seen that had pretty ropey careers in the end? There are many areas of the game which are not quite right and even some which have taken backwards steps this year, but in this area I like that it's often wrong, (if that makes sense).

I would agree! There is probably a lot of examples we could find of teams getting rid of young players as they didn't think they would make the grade and they turned out to be superstars! I do like keeping track of it though as I do find it interesting!

Mid-Season Review

Results

image.thumb.png.152e6c8f9c3e07b2cce827f583747607.png

We started off pretty good and at one point we were sitting 2nd. But injuries and suspensions hit and decimated the team. We have lost the last 7 league games on the bounce and have plummeted down the table.

League Table

image.thumb.png.6f5c9ebe9304372b66bdfa5234f93c4f.png

After that run we are down in 11th place albeit only 2 points of a playoff spot. Considering the amount of youngsters we are playing its been a very good season so far.

FA Cup

image.thumb.png.6628604969e57456993866ff4b49497e.png

Another good showing this season which was ended with a defeat to Rotherham.

FA Trophy

image.thumb.png.7f48e9b8d45a245d50a67f95804aaf94.png

We have made it past Dartford and will face Braintree next.

Player Review - Harry Steward (YP22C)

image.thumb.png.cae0d6c5853af6731975af1ee386b1c2.png

Stewart (YP22C) has really developed well this season. He will never be a world beater but could become a very important part of our first team,

Goalkeeper Watch

Holmes (YP22A) has 5 goals and 2 assists in 29 games this season.

Youth Review

image.thumb.png.9e620bda92653b55828da4b75130a3ef.png

Some solid development but also some worrying. The low determination 3 really are struggling. 2 of which have went up 1 point and the other, who just happens to be one of our biggest prospects, hasn't went up at all. At the other end of the scale Stewart (YP22C) has shot up a massive 13 points which is great. Others seem to fall in-between. I have really tried to give game time to all the players as we need that development.

Takeover

So we just had a takeover and they have pumped some money in!

I mean surely that is a bit crazy in terms of the amount? Not that it will make any difference for transfers. But it will definitely help in terms of improving the facilities.

Youth Intake Overview

image.thumb.png.d2b5448bc6dc22ab05d595fe6e0e266c.png

This on paper looks much better in terms of a CA perspective. Again our PA's are a bit skewed because the poor quality in the squad. Nice to see some good defenders in there and a nice holding midfielder. Lets have a look at PA vs PPA...

image.thumb.png.3862fbf338ea12486163f0b69e1162b0.png

Another player with over 100 CA which is great and nice to see a better set of personalities. As you will see with my end of season update our biggest prospect has not improved barely at all in terms of CA with a low determination personality. I will integrate a few of these players in the first team. What we are really missing is a striker prospect. I will do a player introduction when I am back playing again on Sunday/Monday

Youth Intake 2023 - The Players

YP23A - Herve Kouame

image.thumb.png.3c51e420be2c893019f8b208920a7dfb.png

Those mental stats are fantastic for this level. If we can work on that passing a bit I really think we have a fantastic deep lying playmaker in him. Big prospect

YP23B - Trever Moyo

image.thumb.png.3ee6e4cfb552e439e210e53b1e852449.png

Nice to see another defender coming through and a player which covers all 3 spots across the back line, Solid mental stats and hopefully we can work on those heading, strength and marking stats.

YP23C - Peter Herron

image.thumb.png.44386b87131198b30d93ec3e7ee8aa15.png

To me doesn't look to great a prospect but we are struggling a lot for strikers so I may give home some game time where I can to see how he develops!

YP23D - Callum Maloney

image.thumb.png.e7aa1d37edec5f124bb3daba781e66d9.png

Maloney will become our new backup goalkeeper. Lewington is now 34 and will be released at end of the season now that we have Homes (YP22A) as our number 1.

YP23E - Jack Whitehouse

image.thumb.png.1e1e82b48bccca75f5b5cc31d33af3a6.png

Again to me doesn't look like much. No real standout stats bit will see how he develops in the youth teams.

YP23F - Ted Adams

image.thumb.png.0ae3e22e9580132a899ce39fc86fc942.png

I like the look at Adams as he has some good solid mental and physical stats and some high single figure technical attributes. Could become a handy first team squad player!

YP23G - Sam Gumbs

image.thumb.png.4b7ee4c1beb838f7be319931fed8f943.png

As mentioned before wingers is an area we are severely lacking. Gumbs has solid crossing an technique and decent pace which can be handy at this level. Would say he will get some game time.

YP23H - Jaleel Duggan

image.thumb.png.20eb82c1bb5848d0f81217e63e3808c0.png

Again a position we are struggling in, signed mainly to flesh out the squad. Will see how he develops and go from there! Could be a 4th or 5th choice striker currently.

End Of Season

Results

image.thumb.png.76fdeae7d721a4c368fab1b7c151ec58.png

Our usual up and down story! The last month I really tried to give the new youngsters some game time as we were never getting the playoffs or in danger of being drawn into any relegation battle.

League Table

image.thumb.png.43a9538c7b14065928a95b0fe3e3e1d1.png

We finished mid table which is good despite integrating a lot of youngsters into the team this season. Hopefully with a year of development they can kick on next season.

FA Cup

image.thumb.png.a01d86a26b9501082ec5c8703da1b566.png

Another solid run to the 3rd round was ended by Rotherham!

FA Trophy

image.thumb.png.666a8b97c32866d0f8fb5196e5843786.png

Our backup players found Braintree a step too far as they were thumped 5-2 in the 4th round.

Player Review - Mark Holmes (YP22A)

image.thumb.png.cc483aa46793e7d58d23af95f4129c6b.png

Our big prospect at the club had a solid season and has developed well. Hopefully with the training facilities being improved we can kick on this development. He scored 8 goals and had 2 assists this season!

Goalkeeper Watch

Holmes (YP22A) scored 8 goals and had 2 assists this season for us which is a great return. Our new backup goalkeeper Maloney (YP23D) played the last 4 games of the season and managed to score 1 goal!

Youth Review

image.thumb.png.1c1b7f046558afa2e9d33806a3e9e1e3.png

This season really was the first season I went very youth heavy which included the last month me playing a lot of the new youngsters I had signed from the intake. It is nice to see the CA's being higher in new intakes with our increases in facilities. Doesn't necessarily mean we have much higher PA's but it does mean we aren't at so much of a disadvantage right away. As you can see Moyo (YP23B) has come straight in as our best player in terms of CA and he was from the last intake. Overall pretty good development here and I think bar the 2 strikers, 2 wingers, 1 left back and 2 centre midfielders the rest of the whole squad will be youth players.
